New research shows that children who go onto the social media app TikTok and make enquiries about mental health will quickly find depressive content, and that within a few hours they are bound to see content from users expressing the will to kill themselves. That research from Amnesty Tech is entitled "Dragged Into the Rabbit Hole". The organisation says the findings highlight TikTok's ongoing failure to address its systemic design risks affecting children and young people, and also illustrate the failings of the European Union's Digital Services Act. Since 2023, the act requires platforms to identify and mitigate systemic risks to children's rights. In Perspective, we spoke to Lauren Armistead, deputy director at Amnesty Tech.

People who live in real places, like New York, or L.A., or Calgary, do have to occasionally travel from one real place to another, and sometimes the only option is to drive. This means traveling through the areas in the world that are collectively known to anthropologists as "the dumpster". The unfortunate people who live in these "dumpster" areas (again, it's the technical term) have absolutely nothing going for themselves. Distracting "real" people, and possibly jingling a coin or two out of their pockets, is the greatest height to which they can aspire. Truly, they want only to touch the hem of their robe, to feel the presence of a real life well-lived. Lived as life should be lived, not sucking scum off the bottom of the dumpster (seriously, I've heard that they're fine with this term). Over the years, this lower, more dumpstery, form of life has developed several methods for producing these brushes with greatness. These methods usually involve large, painted plywood models of things, or objects designated the world's ______-est ______. They've proven quite effective.

“To Catch A Predator” steps: Hire an adult decoy to lurk on websites advertising themselves as 13 year olds looking for a middle aged companion.  Invite the adult predator to a house that has been wired for audio and video recording.  Have the host of the famous TV show pop out to ask the predator questions and arrest them on the way out.  That is the premise to the show “To Catch A Predator” that has now been cancelled for its moral dilemmas.  But now influencers are recreating the show themselves on their platforms. Luring in predators, confronting them, and then calling the police.  That's what 17 year old Gavon tells the cops was his plan… He met up with a middle aged man on Grindr for the purpose of robbing him because he deserves it. Why else would he talk to a minor? But for the police to believe his side of the story they have to go through his phone… and that's where they find a folder titled - “Dark.”  The password? “Murder.”  Suddenly a simple robbery case turns into a murder investigation because in it… are videos and photos of 17 year old Gavon Ramsay killing and SAing a 98 year old woman in her own home.
