Do you constantly compare yourself to others? Is coming in second place not an option for you?Today on the Thoughtful Talents show we are spotlighting the CliftonStrengths® Competition® talent theme. We've invited our guests -- fellow e2grow and Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach Kevin Thiele and Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach Samantha "Sam" Berg to share with us insights into their Competition® talent. Sam and Kevin share with us how their Competition® theme drives them to be #1 at everything they do. Perhaps you've heard the saying ‘comparison is the thief of joy', but for our guests, this is simply not true. For them, comparison is knowledge. This knowledge provides them information to win. Allowing them to quickly assess their odds of winning, and not just to win, but to win against someone else. We learn from our guests, they can't be competitive on their own, they need the presence of others with whom to compete. This is true for winning for themselves as well as within a team. In everything they do, their Competition® theme is looking at how they compare and helps them determine how they can win -- even if that means they achieve the "win" through others. The journey to the win isn't what motivates them, but the finish line -- coming in first and beating the competition. If Competition is in your Top 5, what did we miss? What could you add to win the title of ‘best insights' for this conversation?OUR GUESTS Kevin Thiele @ Sales CodeLinkedIn | PodcastKevin's Top 5 CliftonStrengths: Command | Communication | Achiever | Self-Assurance | CompetitionSamantha Berg @ Choice BankLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/samantha-berg-09678685/Sam's Top 5 CliftonStrengths: Ideation | Competition | Achiever | Significance | Relator YOUR HOSTS:Jen Werner @ Jen Werner CoachingLinkedIn:| WebsiteJen's Top 5 CliftonStrengths: Responsibility | Achiever | Belief | Deliberative | Activator Chad Ahern @ Talent and Teams ConsultingLinkedIn | WebsiteChad's Top 5 CliftonStrengths: Learner | Deliberative | Responsibility | Harmony | Analytical===================Learn more about CliftonStrengths Talent Themes: https://www.gallup.com/cliftonstrengths/en/home.aspxThe opinions and insights we share on each CliftonStrengths theme are our own and are based on our understanding of Gallup's strengths-based development research.   I really enjoyed my conversation with Samantha Berg, the Chief HR Officer at Choice Bank. She's spent most of her career there and has grown and advanced inside of the bank, and embodies its culture. She also has a fresh and relevant perspective as an HR leader, and shared a lot of those thoughts and ideas in this episode. Choice is a progressive bank with one of the most active banking-as-a-service businesses in the industry, and we talked about how that affects talent and culture across the bank, and whether to silo or integrate it. Enjoy this discussion with a people leader who thinks a lot about attracting and retaining talent in the banking industry, clearly the most important topic facing her peer bank leaders across the country. Samantha Berg has been in the feminist movement for 20 years, as a writer, activist and organizer. In her efforts to end the sexual exploitation of women, Sam saw that men who identified as women and as “sex workers” were leading various movements to legalize commercial sex. While organizing events focused on the Nordic Model and other pro-woman policies, Sam's activism was repeatedly threatened by TRAs hell-bent on stopping her from speaking and organizing without men. They used tactics like spamming women with pornography, sitting outside event hotels and making death threats. In this episode, you'll hear about some of the earliest battles between women's liberation groups and trans activists, contextualizing the current fight for women's liberation and free speech. If you've been bewildered and outraged as to why men are so determined to keep women from educating ourselves and each other around the world, this episode is for you. WLRN's 18th edition podcast is packed with information and stories about prostitution, pornography and the sex trade. Though this topic is a difficult one to discuss, WLRN is committed to facing the truth about the conditions under which women live worldwide. For this reason and since we have never addressed this issue head-on before in a podcast, we are going over our normal hour length to offer up this collaborative work that is nearly two hours long. We were able to get in touch with some of the world's leading experts and activists on this topic including Samantha Berg, Julie Bindel, Sabrinna Valisce and Renee Gerlich. Each of our guests have unique and powerful things to say about the male-driven rape industry that plagues us in these latter stages of global patriarchal capitalism. In addition, hear our WLRN world headlines as written and presented by Amanda. Tired of patriarchal news coverage of global events? Take a listen to our headlines that come at the beginning of each podcast. And finally, enjoy the scathing and rich language employed by our resident female separatist, Sekhmet SheOwl as she holds leftist men accountable to the neolibral politics of the sex trade and calls for women everywhere to fight it in solidarity. Samantha Berg is a journalist, activist, and radical feminist. Originally a reproductive rights and anti-poverty advocate, in 2002 she began working against prostitution, specifically seeking to reduce men’s demand for paid sex. This last book is set to be released this month in London at a public event that will feature women speaking out against the sex trade. http://www.palgrave.com/us/book/9781137558893 Sabrinna Valisce experienced prostitution in the South Pacific under three legislative models and is now the South Pacific representative of SPACE International. http://www.spaceintl.org/She is a former volunteer with the New Zealand Prostitutes Collective but left when it became clear decriminalization was unable to fix sex trade problems. In January 2014 I did a show about Blackfish, the eye-opening documentary that uncovered and exposed SeaWorld for decades of animal abuse, neglect and kidnapping baby orca whales from their beloved families in the world's oceans. This was a very powerful 'first show of the year' that touched so many of you.  Since it's release and continued airings on CNN, Blackfish has been causing major waves at SeaWorld, including rapid declines in attendance and ticket sales and collective debates as to whether or not orca's belong in captivity. Millions of people from around the world have got onboard The Blackfish Effect, and continue to spread the world about the documentary in hopes of one day shutting down SeaWorld and releasing the orca's back into their natural environment. Former SeaWorld trainer Samantha Berg (who was featured in the Blackfish movie) talks with us about her thoughts on Blackfish, SeaWorld and what will likely be the future for the beloved Tilikum. Samantha was most generous with her time and spent nearly 20 minutes with us when we were only scheduled for 3-5 minutes! Thanks again Samantha!
