In today's episode, we sit down with independent investigative journalist Edwin Dorsey to discuss his recent, disturbing investigation into KinderCare, one of the nation's largest day-care providers. Edwin tells us about how he unearthed evidence of horrible child abuse and neglect, including children escaping day-care centers, staff abandoning children after hours, and one tragic instance of a toddler overdosing on cocaine found in a worker's backpack. And horribly, our tax dollars are funding these day-care centers. We also discuss a similar investigation Edwin published years ago about child-care provider Care.com, where he uncovered that the platform was lying about doing background checks. We also talk about the dangers of Roblox and how the platform isn't actually as safe for kids as it might advertise. In this episode, Matt and Mike explore the temptation to always chase the latest and greatest in tech—whether it's new frameworks, tools, or workflows that dominate developer discourse. While the buzz can be exciting, blindly adopting bleeding-edge technology can lead to serious downsides like poor documentation, tiny communities, and unstable tools. The guys discuss how these risks affect both personal and client projects, when it's actually worth going cutting-edge, and why it's perfectly okay (and often smarter) to use tried-and-true tech. If you've ever felt FOMO seeing everyone jump to the next hot thing, this one's for you. Is traditional schooling the only path to success? In this eye-opening episode, Justin and Kylie challenge the conventional approach to education, sharing their journey through homeschooling and industry-based schooling with their daughter, Lily. They discuss why so many kids feel disconnected from mainstream education, the power of hands-on learning, and how alternative schooling models are helping students find passion, purpose, and career opportunities. If you’ve ever worried about whether the standard school system is serving your child, this episode is a must-listen! KEY POINTS: Many kids feel disconnected from traditional schooling because it lacks real-world application. Industry schools combine formal education with hands-on experience, giving kids exposure to different careers. Parents often fear that alternative education means failure, but in reality, it can lead to greater success and fulfillment. The stigma of leaving mainstream school is often more about parental concerns than what’s best for the child. Exposure is key—kids don’t always know what they want to do until they experience different career options. There are so many flexible schooling alternatives—vocational training, homeschooling, apprenticeships, online learning, and more. Insights from a school principal: The biggest hurdle in education reform is often parents’ reluctance to try something different. QUOTE OF THE EPISODE: "We’re using medieval institutions to train our children to live in an era where we have god-like technology. They don’t match up—they simply don’t." RESOURCES MENTIONED: Dark Horse by Todd Rose Industry schools, vocational training programs, apprenticeships, and alternative schooling options. The Happy Families website ACTION STEPS FOR PARENTS: If your child is struggling with school, research alternative education options in your area. Have an open conversation with your child about what excites them and what frustrates them about their education. Challenge the fear of failure. Understand that leaving traditional school doesn’t mean giving up on success—it might be the key to unlocking it. Connect with other parents who have explored homeschooling, vocational programs, or industry schools for insight and support. Encourage your child to explore different careers through internships, apprenticeships, or hands-on learning experiences. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Producer's note: After recording, the Detroit Tigers optioned Jace Jung to Triple-A Toledo, which means he won't make the Tigers' Opening Day roster. Keep that in mind as you listen to this episode. With 10 days until Opening Day, the position battles for the Tigers in spring training have heated up to the max. The Tigers have 10 of 13 position players locked in, three of five starting pitchers locked in, and seven of eight relief pitchers locked in. A lot could happen in the final week of camp, but the Opening Day roster is coming into focus with clear frontrunners in those competitions. Still, the Tigers have a lot of questions to answer as the regular season approaches.Center fielder Parker Meadows has been ruled out for Opening Day with an upper arm nerve issue, so how long will Wenceel Pérez be relied upon as the primary center fielder? Without Jace Jung, is a platoon of Zach McKinstry and Andy Ibáñez good enough at third base? Most notably, should the Tigers have just put Jung on the roster because of his long-term upside on offense?Other topics include Javier Báez and Spencer Torkelson testing out new positions, Riley Greene in center field, the Spring Breakout prospect game (Bryce Rainer!), and what we saw from Andrew Navigato. As a kid, did you ever get caught with your hand in the cookie jar? If you did, then you know that it wasn't going to do you any good to deny it. Once you were caught, it was too late. The more you tried to deny it or to stick to your guns, the worse off it was. In his message today, Pastor Bill teaches you that when the Holy Spirit convicts you of something, then you should stop it right then and there. Resisting the Spirit will never go well for you, but if you confess your sins, God will forgive you and cleanse of them.
It's a good thing to have an honorable reputation. Do you have a name that, when people hear it, they have an immediate idea of what they should expect of you? In this episode, host Paden Hughes dives into the emotionally charged decision of going no contact with family during the holidays. Whether you're in the middle of a spiritual journey or navigating the complexities of family dynamics, the holiday season often brings up unresolved wounds and repressed emotions. Paden explores why choosing yourself during this time can be a powerful act of self-care and personal growth, particularly when family dynamics are triggering core wounds. Drawing from her own experiences, Paden shares the emotional challenges of setting boundaries and the empowerment that comes from aligning with your true self over societal expectations. She discusses the importance of emotional health, how to create new traditions that honor your peace, and the significance of chosen family—those who support and love you unconditionally. Hell there, Star Wars fans! Welcome to episode 234.We kick off with the future of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, sparked by Ewan McGregor's recent remarks about potential storylines for a second season. The hosts reflect on the original series' reception, noting that while many fans appreciated McGregor's return, others felt the series fell short of expectations. This dichotomy sets the stage for an exploration of how future content can better resonate with the audience while remaining faithful to the established lore. We also touch on the intricacies of storytelling, emphasising that any new series should not simply rehash past narratives but should instead build upon them, enriching the characters' journeys and deepening the emotional stakes.Other news throughout the galaxy:We pay tribute to the late Robert Watts, acknowledging his contributions to the original trilogy and the importance of recognising his behind-the-scenes talent that shaped the Star Wars legacy. An upcoming documentary on John Williams has us excited, discussing how his musical genius has elevated the storytelling of Star Wars and other iconic films.A couple of amazing props are going up for auction next week in London including a screen-matched Sandtrooper helmet from the icon "Move along" scene as well as Yoda's cane. Could an adaptation live up to the beloved animated series while focusing on the darker, more brutal aspects of war that defined the Clone Wars? There's the potential for exploring character relationships, particularly the dynamics between Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Padmé, as well as the emotional fallout from the choices they make. The news stories from around the galaxy that we discussed on this episode...Iconic ‘Star Wars' Helmet Could Be The Memorabilia You're Looking For"It would be so disrespectful not to cast him": Will Poulter Was Never the Best Choice to Play Cal Kestis as Fans Demand Cameron Monaghan to Make His Live Action Star Wars DebutEwan McGregor Says Disney & Lucasfilm Are "Exploring" Ideas For 'Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi' Season 2Music by John Williams | Official Trailer | Disney+ - Jedi NewsLucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy Pays Tribute to Robert Watts - Jedi NewsAbout Spark of Rebellion:This is Spark of Rebellion, the weekly Star Wars podcast for casual fans and veterans alike. We are your hosts, Garry and Mark and every single Saturday we release a brand new episode bringing you the latest news, reviews & discussion on all things Star Wars. Today, we're discussing Christianity Today's recent article arguing for putting kids in public schools. The author states that, while her own child isn't in public school yet, it's a good place to provide spiritual “strength training” for our kids. The problem? Kids aren't missionaries, and we explain the various dangers that come with sending them to public school thinking they're already equipped to stand up against the culture. Today we're reacting to Jen Wilkin and Jonathan Pennington's debate on public education vs. private education (hosted by the Gospel Coalition). We present this argument with its full context but break down some of what Jen Wilkin, who represents the pro-public-school side, says specifically. In response to Wilkin's claim that woke curriculum can be a fear-mongering tactic, we take a look at what's happening in schools even in red states. Wilkin also mentions that our decision on where to send our kids to school impacts our communities, but is that a fair argument for public schools, and does that put our own children at risk for the "good of community"? We cover other school choice considerations such as finances and at-home discipleship, then look at Wilkin's response on Twitter to some of the backlash against her position. Lastly, we look at the perspective of a show favorite, Voddie Baucham, who offers words of caution about sending children to public school. --- Links: The Gospel Coalition: "Should Christian Parents Send Their Children to Public Schools?" https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/video/good-faith-debates-public-schools/ The Dallas Express: "Parent Confronts Richardson ISD Over Sexual Content in Jr High Reading" https://dallasexpress.com/education/parent-confronts-richardson-isd-over-sexual-content-in-jr-high-reading/ Exodus Mandate: “Top Five Reasons NOT to Send Your Kids Back to Public School” https://exodusmandate.org/public-schools/top-five-reasons-not-to-send-your-kids-back-to-public-school --- Relevant Episodes: Ep 495 | The Truth About ‘Social Emotional Learning' & What Your Kids Are Reading | Guest: Sherry Clemens https://apple.co/3ZojXCD Ep 279 | The Corruption of Public Education & the Need for School Choice | Guest: Corey A.
