ABOUT ALICE FRASER ALICE IS AN AWARD WINNING WRITER, BROADCASTER, PERFORMER AND COMEDIAN. She's also an ex academic, ex-corporate Lawyer and (sort of) banjo player. Alice does reliably silly, unpredictably meaningful, narratively unorthodox, gut-punch comedy. The Trilogy podcast series commissioned by ABC Radio was voted Apple Editorials Team’s #1 Best Australian Podcast for 2018. Alice was awarded the 2016 AMP Tomorrow Fund grant for her podcast 'Tea With Alice' and has toured the world with her critically acclaimed solo shows The Resistance, and Savage. Both received four and five star reviews and packed out houses in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide, New Zealand, London and the Edinburgh Fringe. She is touring her new show, Empire in 2017 through the Adelaide Fringe, Melbourne Comedy Festival, Sydney Comedy Festival and Edinburgh Comedy Festival. Alice writes jokes for The Project on Channel 10, as well as the satirical news radio show "A Rational Fear". She has appeared on BBC Radio 4, and Radio National as well as having co-hosted the cult radio show "Tracksuits" weekly on FBi radio in Sydney for many years. Omar Sakr is a poet and writer who brings the personal and political to life. In this interview, he discusses his writing craft, his foray into speculative fiction and the difference between what he publishes and what he writes for himself. Omar is the author of These Wild Houses, a collection of poetry shortlisted for the Judith Wright Calanthe Award and the Kenneth Slessor Prize for Poetry, as well as The Lost Arabs, which was shortlisted for the Queensland Literary Awards, the John Bray Poetry Award and the NSW Premier's Literary Awards. In 2020, Omar contributed to the anthology After Australia with the short story 'White Flu'. Elsewhere, Omar's articles and essays are published in The Saturday Paper, The Guardian,The Sydney Morning Herald, Archer, Meanjin, Kill Your Darlings, Going Down Swinging, SBS Online, SBS Life, SBS Comedy, The Wheeler Centre, and Junkee. In this episode: We talk about working an independent producer. Discuss how Lauren got started and why she has now chosen producing as career. We chat about why looking for the right work to work on is so important and how the early work she did shaped her into the producer she is now. Lauren works predominantly as a producer of circus and theatre. She has a healthy disregard for the impossible and a love of work that sparks the imagination. She has been programmer and producer of Circus City for Sydney Festival and Circus Hub for Underbelly at Edinburgh Fringe. She also manages an independent company Lauren Eisinger Productions which develops and tours small to medium scale circus and theatre work. She was producer and Artistic Director for the Australian premiere of the symphonic spectacular, ‘The Magical Music of Disney’ in association with the Walt Disney Company and that year co-directed the highly successful ‘Verge Festival’ with James Colley (writer at The Weekly, SBS Comedy, Giant Dwarf) at Sydney University. She produced the acclaimed blacklight circus show LUMINOUS which toured Australia for four years, pioneering the collaboration of body art, blacklight and circus to incredible critical reception. Bish Marzook shares stories about her father, his love of language, and what happens when she has to come up with her own definitions. Bish is a writer, comedian, and scientist for good measure. She writes for SBS Comedy, regularly appears on Triple J and FBi radio, and co-runs Wolf Comedy, a Sydney comedy room committed to promoting diversity in comedy. You should definitely check it out. Dan Ilic is one of Australia’s most prolific comedic voices. Dan has been making television in Australia for ten years. His credits include: Australia’s Funniest Home Videos (Nine), Hungry Beast (ABC), Hamster Wheel (ABC), Can of Worms (Ten) and The Feed (SBS2) as well as being a regular on comedy panel shows and news magazine programs. In 2014 Dan raised more than $50,000 through crowd-funding to make A Rational Fear into a web series. Most recently Dan was Senior producer of Satire for AJ+ English, Al Jazeera’s digital platform for millennials. James Colley is a Young Walkley nominated satirist and creator of The Backburner on SBS Comedy. He works on The Weekly with Charlie Pickering and Gruen and has previously written for A Rational Fear andJunkee. Herald Sun columnist Andrew Bolt describes James as "utterly unfunny" with humour "of the kind that would make only Lenin laugh”. James Colley notes that Lenin was famously difficult to amuse. Kate McCartney is a writer/director, illustrator, animator and performer.
