This kickstarts an exploration of cultural oddities that spans continents and decades.Ever wondered why tracksuits became the uniform of Eastern European men? The hosts uncover the surprising status symbol behind Adidas gear in post-Soviet states, revealing how the first Western apparel company allowed behind the Iron Curtain transformed fashion into political currency. This cultural analysis provides genuine insight into how seemingly superficial fashion choices carried profound historical significance during the Cold War.The conversation takes a conspiratorial turn with declassified information about CIA involvement in abstract expressionist art movements. From funding Jackson Pollock to developing "heart attack guns," the hosts speculate about the agency's wildest projects with a comedic lens that makes historical absurdities approachable while questioning the thin line between security operations and madness.Personal stories from Division III football dominate the second half, featuring incompetent coaches, bizarre motivational tactics from questionable "Navy SEALs," and the unique social dynamics that develop in locker rooms. All aboard the ... bus! This week we feature several songs about the poor man's chariot, the loser cruiser, etc - and the songs are comin' like London busses. Our first stop is "Midnight Bus" by Betty McQuade. From 1961, this one is an atmospheric tale of tragic young love, but more importantly, it sets up a crucial discussion of the "buzzer cord" ... where did the buzz go? Second on our route is "Bus Stop" by The Hollies. This one is also about young love but it has a happier ending, though the baroque arrangement carries an undercurrent of melancholy. While you wait at the stop, listen to "Red Box" by I Jog & the Tracksuits. Very suppressed rage and shy vocals meet the riff from "Love Rollercoaster"! Nobody walks in LA, except for the people Weird Al is stuck with on "Another One Rides The Bus." Legendary! The terminus is reached after we listen to "You're Crazy for Taking the Bus" by our favourite, Jonathan Richman. What a positive view of a long coach ride ... just like this episode!
We're back you guys!! And tech issues be damned, we are persisting. We'll cover everything from Benny and Terry's budding case of cinephilia (cinefilia? no way to know), the tragedy that struck LA and the amazing Baronie response to it that made us so grateful, as well as Delta One. Benny is riding for fragrances and Mary Beth is riding for Juicy tracksuits. Did someone say couture?! Then, Esmeralda Leon joins Nick to talk about the greatness of Conan O'Brien, continue the hilarious early 2000s quiz, and chat about "Mean Girls," tracksuits, and the iconic Catalina Wine Mixer. They also indulge in more India snack tasting with some spicy masala chips. [Ep272]

S10E266: Desekrator: Inverted Tracksuits Get ready to plunge into the abysmal depths of blackened death metal with Rochester's unholy sextet known as Desekrator. How does it feel to have not one, but two vocalists spewing forth the anguished cries of the damned? With six intense personalities crammed into one rehearsal room (and in our studio), tensions are bound to run high - but do these metallic brothers share an unbreakable bond forged in the fires of hell, or is their "bromance" a mere facade, concealing a seething cauldron of chaos and conflict? We'll uncover the inspirations and creative forces behind this auditory onslaught, and get a glimpse into the band's future. What does one wear to summon the forces of darkness and unleash annihilation upon the masses? Nothing says "brutal" like a well-coordinated ensemble of inverted tracksuits. Don't miss this opportunity to descend into the abyss with Desekrator, listen to their latest single Empire of Rot, and bask in the glorious highs and soul-crushing lows. Be sure to check them out live at the House of Guitars 6/1 and the Montage 6/7. On this week's ep, I'm sitting down with Kazna Asker. Kazna is fashion-focussed multi-disciplinary artist who celebrates her Yemeni culture through her clothes and documentaries. Sam Birch, who helped with the filming of M.O.G. series one, sent me a link to a BBC news segment celebrating Kazna's first show at London fashion week, which was very, very sick. I watched her documentary about the place she comes from on the train back from London and thought she'd be ace to get on My Own Garms. She makes absolutely mint gear incorporating second-hand trackies and traditional woven fabrics. I'm buzzing hear more about the diverse influences she draws on to create her work and how she celebrates and elevates her community through garms. If you're new around here then whilst you're watching or listening, make sure you subscribe to the channel. We've got tons of ace episodes for you to go back and listen to and loads more to come in this series. Follow us on Spotify, sub on YouTube, sub on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get yours. PART 2 of a compilation of one of Karl Pilkington's most beloved features, MONKEY NEWS; and the utterly pointless spin-off feature, CHEAP AS CHIMPS, as well as a smattering of other random monkey bits. Monkeys are near and dear to Karl's simian heart. He spent much of his time during the XFM years sitting at home, looking up spurious monkey facts on the Internet. He would then share this unreliable monkey-related drivel with his two best friends, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who, over time, became increasingly irate at Karl's evermore outlandish monkey musings. **TO BE CONTINUED** Quick CHEAP AS CHIMPS (0:00) Monkey Robber Pays Off Zookeeper (0:36) Monkey Railway Signalman (6:45) Monkey Typing Experiment (12:06) Monkey Hairdresser (16:09) Japanese Snow Monkeys (20:50) Monkeys for Sale (23:57) Monkey Doing a Web Chat - My name is Marty (24:42) Monkey #86 Drives to Spain (27:56) Karl the Little Red Monkey (33:36) Monkeys Catching on to Coverage (34:14) Monkey World 1 (34:29) Little Asian Monkey with Pointiest Eyes (35:21) Another Monkey Marriage (39:12) Monkey World 2 (41:38) Homeless Monkey Arrested in Russia (42:25) Monkeys in Tracksuits 'n That (47:12) Monkey Spotted Holidaying in Cornwall (47:53) Monkey World 3 - Disappointment (48:44) Chimp Tried it on with Man's Wife (50:29) "Monkey Business" - Monkeys from the Rough Bit of the Island (53:24) Monkey News Saved by Overwhelming Listener Support (56:54) Spa for Monkeys Run by Couple of Chimps (57:28)

The late B-movie queen Jillian Kesner stars in this martial arts revenge romp through Manila. What it lacks in truly memorable story choices in makes up for in STYLE, IMPALMENT, EYE TRAUMA, and oh… it still has plenty of bizarre choices…even going so far as to do reshoots to add very unnecessary and uncomfortable attempted rape and love(?) scenes. #hawkeye Hanako, Anthony, and Michael discuss the series finale (?) of Hawkeye. Kingpin makes one helluva entrance as Eleanor Bishop announces her intent to cease working for him in order to protect Kate. Kate learns the depth of her mother's crimes and must now make a decision about what to do. Maya's request for time away to "clear her head" does not sit well with "uncle", as he tells Kazi that the situation needs to be handled. Major confrontations take place during the Bishop Christmas party as Clint and Kate, Jack, Yelena, Maya, Kingpin, and the Tracksuits all have scores to settle with each other. Yelena finally gets the answers she needs from Clint about her sister's death. Clint finally makes it home in time for Christmas. The fourth episode of #Hawkeye has the FHP crew asking a lot of questions and making a few theories that sound farfetched at first, but may make sense by the end of the series. Jack and Eleanor have mixed reactions when they find out that Kate is working with Hawkeye on a project. Eleanor make her feelings for the project clear to Clint, in a not-so-very-nice way. Clint get some intel about the Tracksuits from a very unlikely source. Kate brings a little bit of Christmas cheer to Clint, and he opens up a little about Natasha. Kate enlists the LARPers to recover Clint's trick arrows.
