Yet, corporate bosses claim that cheaper, foreign-made tape measures now dominate the market, so – Poof! – goodbye 300 American jobs.But wait, Stanley didn't eliminate the jobs, it just moved them. To Thailand, where labor is paid 75% less than in Connecticut. Indeed, the major foreign competitor to Stanley turns out to be… Stanley! "Palisades Park" (from Wikipedia) Chuck Barris wrote a song about an amusement park and it was suggested he use the name of an amusement park as the title. One night he was in Manhattan when he looked toward the New Jersey Palisades Cliffs, on which the amusement park sat. That was when inspiration hit and the title was added. Years later the Palisades Amusement Park closed, on September 12, 1971.[2] A tribute to New Jersey's Palisades Amusement Park, it is an up-tempo rock and roll tune led by a distinctive organ part. The track also incorporates amusement park sound effects, including the sounds of screaming riders on the roller coasters, and the quoting of a slower version of "Entrance of the Gladiators", played on an organ imitating a hurdy-gurdy or calliope. In the song, the singer takes a walk after dark and discovers Palisades Park, where he meets and falls in love with a girl. Among the list of rides and attractions listed in the song are: Shoot the Chute, Rocket Ship, Roller Coaster, Loop the Loop, Merry Go Round, Tunnel of Love, and the Ferris Wheel. Chart performanceReleased by Swan Records as a B-side to "June, July and August," "Palisades Park" broke in when a Flint, Michigan radio DJ played it by mistake. In Dubai, the European Ryder Cup team is off to the races in the final event of the DP World Tour season. Nicolai Hojgaard leads at the halfway point over the likes of Justin Rose, Shane Lowry, and Rory McIlroy. Andy compares the leaderboard in Dubai to the Butterfield leaderboard for a good chuckle before asking if a Patrick Reed or Matthew Jordan comeback win would do more for content. The Internet Invitational wrapped up last night with over 200,000 live viewers tuning in for the finale. Andy and Brendan discuss the reach of the tournament and compare the viewer numbers to what the Butterfield may produce this weekend. Kai Trump's LPGA debut produced plenty of viewers on social media as she carded an 83 in the first round at the ANNIKA. Brendan gives some credit to Trump for beating the offshore gambling lines and says it was a "not-horrendous" score given the circumstances. This leads into another wider discussion about what sponsor exemptions should be used for in golf and whether someone like Internet Invitational star Brad Dalke is worthy of one in a PGA Tour event. Andy highlights that other popular sports do not need something like a sponsor exemption to bring in eyeballs. The Champions Tour is playing four rounds this week at Phoenix Country Club and some hecklers have surfaced following Bernhard Langer around the event. Two patrons are unhappy with Langer's potential "anchoring" and have t-shirts and the rulebook to prove their point. This episode ends with a Golf Advice question that could be straight out of a "Curb Your Enthusiasm" script that has Andy yelling about aces again.
