Sermon: Thanks-Filled Living - 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Worship & Praise: No Not One, King of Love, God is Love, Give Thanks
Tuesday night, or Wednesday morning I guess, we will have the results and know something about a new President and government that will carry us into the next chapter in America. I am concerned about several things in this next chapter, but particularly religious freedom and biblical morality. I have, we will vote what we believe gives the best opportunity for that. And Lord willing, we wake up Wednesday. Some will wake up with the belief that everything is going to be okay. Others will wake up sure it is the end of America. What should we do Wednesday? Well, pray, like any day. Thank God that He is on the throne and that this will serve His glory and purposes. While an election always feels to us like it is going to change everything, it changes nothing for God. After prayer, then what? Well, we’ll have to go to school, or work, start taking on that day’s tasks. I want to give you a checklist, a list of things to do between Wednesday and Saturday, before we get back here next Sunday. And this list is given to us by Paul at the close of his first letter to the Thessalonians.
To Every Generation...The teaching ministry of Calvary Chapel Crossfields.....Join us as we go verse by verse through the Bible.

Love God. Love People.
At the end of 1 Thessalonians, in his final instructions, Paul tells us to "be at peace with all people". Who is the Lord asking you to be at peace with? Are you carrying around un-forgiveness in your heart? When you are not at peace it can affect all of the other relationships in your life. The Lord is calling us as His people to live differently, to pursue peace and live with grace.

It struck me that as we kick off our program year this fall, I want to build on sermons I preached last fall – which could be labelled “The Restatement of the Obvious.” I hope that while I will be “restating the obvious,” I will restate it in ways that remind us who we are and why we are here in this congregation of God’s people. I want to begin with “Why Worship?” Why attend church, Sunday morning, nearly every week? Why sing hymns, listen to anthems, speak to God to confess our sins, reflect on our lives, ask God’s forgiveness or help or intervention or comfort or understanding? Rev. Dr. Larry Hayward preaches on the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time. The Scripture lesson is 1 Thessalonians 5:12-28.

In the last part of these series we look at Paul’s final instructions in his first letter to the Thessalonians. Paul urges them and us to live in peace, encourage others, help the weak, rejoice and pray always.
Having dealt with various obstacles to Christian living, Paul finishes with a message of mutual encouragement as the church lives together.
As Paul ended this letter, he was offering to the "Model Church" some things to never forget.
What have we been blessed with? This looks at some of the gifts we have in Christ.
Today’s message teaches us to be thankful for all the events which come into our lives by seeing God’s hand in them.

Pastor Phil preaches on his last Sunday before heading off on Sabbatical on 1 Thessalonians 5:12-28. He reiterates Paul's words in verse 14, to warn the lazy, encourage the timid, care for the weak, and be patient with everyone.
