The Seelbach Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky was so beautiful and iconic that it inspired F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby." Stepping inside the lobby, takes one back to an earlier time with its lavish decor. The Rathskellar down in the belly of the hotel gives flashes of the Prohibition era and it wouldn't be surprising to spy Al Capone sitting at a corner table. There are several ghost stories connected to this Louisville treasure that we will share with you here. Join us for the history and hauntings of the Seelbach Hotel. His musical journey commenced at the age of 7 when he started playing the piano, and a few years later, he embarked on saxophone lessons. Throughout his high school years, Bradley showcased his musical prowess in various settings, participating in Marching Band, Pep Band, Jazz Band, Concert and Symphonic Bands, as well as contributing to his district's KMEA and All County programs. Upon graduating from high school, Bradley pursued his passion for jazz music and history at The University of Louisville (UofL). Following his graduation from the Music School at UofL, he became the keyboard player for the Adrian Taylor Band and briefly contributed to Louisville's Grateful Dead cover band, Shiny and the Breeze. Hospitality can be a nebulous thing, and while you know it when you feel it, what are some of its concrete elements and how do you create it and maintain it in a restaurant? To explore that question, I turned to two of the most hospitable people I know, Jerry and Krista Slater. Based in Athens, GA, they currently own two restaurants: The Expat and Slater's Steakhouse, one wine shop and bar named The Lark, and are in process to open another restaurant and a cocktail bar very soon. So they think about hospitality a lot. They've made a career of it, with Jerry working at Charlie Trotter's in Chicago, Seelbach Hotel in Louisville, and being one of the consulting creators for One Flew South in Hartsfield International Airport in Atlanta. Krista, a painter and certified sommelier, worked for years in the wine and restaurant industry in the Bay Area before relocating to Georgia. You might even recognize their names from a beverage column in the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, so to say busy is an understatement. But despite that, they are always intentional in creating their spaces and guest experiences, and they do it all with a dash of humor and goodwill for the larger community.

This 115 year old hotel has a rich history of notable visitors including multiple US presidents such as Harry Truman, John F Kennedy, and Bill Clinton, gangsters such as Al Capone, and, possibly most notably, the author F Scott Fitzgerald, who has immortalized the hotel in one of his most famous works, The Great Gatsby. This hotel has also seen it's fair share of tragedy, most famously, the story of the blue lady. This unsettled spirit is rumored to still linger there today, and if you're un/lucky enough, you may still catch her stepping through the doors of the elevator shaft, only to fall to her death once more ...

We’re back after last week’s disappointing and irritating technical difficulties with the story of the Seelbach Hotel and the mystery of its Lady in Blue. We also take some time to discuss a questionnaire which was sent to Richard Ramirez while he was in prison and which he actually took the time to answer (because it’s not like his social calendar was all that full). Note the disturbing number of times he failed to answer “cheesecake”—the man was clearly a monster.
