Episode 578 Frank Bello is a First Class Father and Bassist for Anthrax. Anthrax is a legendary NYC Trash Metal band which has sold more than 10 million albums. Born into a family of five, Frank grew up in difficult circumstances. His father abandoned his wife and children, and Frank's mother moved heaven and earth to keep them fed and educated. Left with no male role model, Frank found inspiration in heavy metal bass players, following their example and forging a career with Anthrax from his early teens―first as a roadie, and then as the group's bass player. Frank tells his story in his new memoir “Fathers, Brothers, and Sons: Surviving Anguish, Abandonment, and Anthrax”. In this Episode, Frank shares his Fatherhood journey which includes a 15 year old son. He discusses his life growing up without a Father in the home and the impact that has had on him as a Father now. He describes the horrific murder of his brother Anthony which took place at the height of his career. He talks about his memoir Fathers, Brothers, and Sons: Surviving Anguish, Abandonment, and Anthrax. He offers some great advice for new or about to be Dads and more! The one where stayed up late whilst Frank sorted his internet connection. Frank Bello has been the Bassist with Anthrax since the early days, joining just after the release of the bands first album. Other than a short stint with band Helmet, he has been an ever present with Anthrax contributing extensively as a songwriter. We had a very open and honest chat with Frank, and he spoke with great candour about some of the difficult experiences he has worked his way through. But at the same time it's an uplifting conversation that is full of warmth and humour. Oh, and you might pick up on the fact that he has a book out... Big thanks to Joel M for making this episode possible. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fathers-Brothers-Sons-Surviving-Abandonment/dp/1644282313/ref=sr_1_1?adgrpid=130487444092&gclid=Cj0KCQiAi9mPBhCJARIsAHchl1xsa7N1vfLOyxYmgQfZJLE6VlA4JTgv_GYKWh1H_fTJTpHUqGwzLx4aAr3NEALw_wcB&hvadid=535551349423&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=1006815&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=6499191828066768614&hvtargid=kwd-1409156490401&hydadcr=24402_1748874&keywords=frank+bello+book&qid=1643569607&sr=8-1 (Fathers, Brothers & Sons: Surviving Anguish, Abandonment & Anthrax - Frank Bello) https://en-gb.facebook.com/TheFrankBello (Frank Facebook) https://www.instagram.com/theguitarshowuk/ (9-42 Instagram) https://twitter.com/theguitarshowuk (9-42 Twitter) https://www.facebook.com/theguitarshowuk (9-42 Facebook) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCozetpXDzhNSAELq6wnoLhQ (9-42 Youtube) https://www.theguitarshow.co.uk/ (9-42 Website) https://www.facebook.com/ashortstoriespodcast/ (ashortstories Facebook) This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Chartable - https://chartable.com/privacy
Frank Bello is an American musician, most notable as bassist for the legendary thrash metal band Anthrax. On hiatus from Anthrax, he briefly performed with Helmet, but he has appeared on every Anthrax release since 1985. The band has sold over 10 million albums to date. His new book, Fathers, Brothers, and Sons: Surviving Anguish, Abandonment, and Anthrax, coauthored with Joel McIver, including a foreword by Gene Simmons of KISS is now available via Rare Bird. Born into a family of five, Frank grew up in difficult circumstances. His father abandoned his wife and children, and Frank's mother moved heaven and earth to keep them fed and educated. Left with no male role model, Frank found inspiration in heavy metal bass players, following their example and forging a career with Anthrax from his early teens—first as a roadie, and then as the group's bass player. International stardom came Frank's way by the mid-to-late 1980s, when he was still in his early twenties, but tragedy struck in 1996 when his brother Anthony was murdered in New York. Although the case went to trial, the suspected killer was released without charge after a witness, intimidated by violent elements, withdrew his testimony. Two decades later, Frank is a father himself to a young son. thefrankbello.com
