Pilot Nicki returns to describe her 1948 Globe Swift and explain her plans to make a mid-life career change and become a professional pilot. In the news, the FAA Administrator says what to expect from the “brand new air traffic control system,” a bill to address ADS-B “misuse,” navigating around the debris field after a rocket failure, accelerating the MV-75 Tiltrotor program, flying the Qatari 747 as Air Force One, reduced security restrictions at Heathrow, and a private jet crash in Maine. Guest Nicki Hovanec just reached her goal of 1500 flight hours and now plans to make a mid-life career change and become a professional pilot. She fell in love with aviation at an early age and attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for Aviation at Daytona Beach, Florida. But 911 impacted Nicki's career trajectory and took her away from aviation. However, with encouragement from her spouse, she returned to aviation, obtained her pilot’s license, and will soon look to be hired by an airline. Nicki trained through independent flight schools and completed her solo in 2017, receiving her initial pilot’s certificate. She continued her training and completed additional certifications on various aircraft while progressing towards her goal of 1500+ flight hours. Nicki saved and borrowed funds to purchase a Cessna 152. Eventually selling that plane, she bought a 1948 Globe Swift tail-dragger, her current airplane. With 1,500 flight hours completed, Nicki now begins the job search for a professional pilot position, starting with the NGPA job fair. We’ll continue to follow her progress. A little history: In May 2017, Nicki sought our advice about starting flying lessons and making a career change to become a professional pilot. We encouraged her to keep us informed about her progress, and Nicki did so by sending us over a dozen recordings documenting her journey getting a pilot's license. FAPA.aero (Future & Active Pilots Alliance) Aviation News FAA's Bedford Provides Glimpse into U.S. ATC's Future At the monthly Aero Club of Washington, D.C. luncheon, FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford talked about the “brand new air traffic control system.” He described: “Greater precision about… flight trajectories… [while] navigating through the airspace.” Many fewer handoffs flying through the system. A cultural shift away from focusing on takeoff to when a pilot wants to land.  Changing the innovation cycle to be more like Apple or Tesla. AOPA urges members to contact their representatives in Congress AOPA issued a call to action asking its 300,000 members to contact their senators and representatives in Congress and urge them to cosponsor the Pilot and Aircraft Privacy Act (PAPA). AOPA President Darren Pleasance said, “When the ADS-B mandate went into effect in 2020, the FAA said this important technology would only be used for safety and airspace efficiency. Instead, we're now seeing it used in ways that discourage adoption…The misuse of ADS-B is a step backward for aviation safety and erodes trust in our aviation system.” If passed, PAPA would prohibit the use of ADS-B data to assist in the collection of fees from pilots or aircraft owners and clarify that ADS-B data may only be used for its intended purposes of air traffic safety and efficiency. PAPA was introduced in 2025 by Rep. Bob Onder (R-Mo.) as H.R.4146 and Sen. Ted Budd (R-N.C.) as S.2175. “We're Too Close to the Debris” On January 16, 2026, ATC instructed Caribbean flights to avoid the FAA's debris zone after a SpaceX Starship rocket exploded. Dozens of planes made sharp turns to avoid the danger zone, which was closed for 86 minutes. ProPublica says this made “pilots and passengers unwitting participants in SpaceX's test of the most powerful rocket ever built.” Army Punches Its MV-75 Tiltrotor Program Into Overdrive The Army wants to see the MV-25 testing this year and in service in 2027. Just twelve months ago, the Army targeted 2030. At the 2022 competition, service was expected in the mid-2030s. The MV-75 is the designation given to the U.S. Army's Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) tiltrotor. The design is based on the Bell V-280 Valor tiltrotor and will replace many of the H-60 Black Hawk helicopters. The V-280 demonstrator has flown, but not the MV-75 configuration. Qatari 747 to fly as Trump's Air Force One this summer In May 2025, the US government accepted the 747 jetliner donated by the Qatari government to serve as a new Air Force One. Modifications began in September. An Air Force spokesperson said in a statement that delivery of the aircraft is anticipated no later than summer 2026. Calling it a “VC-25 bridge aircraft,” the Trump administration intends this plane to serve as an interim Air Force One while waiting for the two 747s currently being modified by Boeing. The Air Force is expecting the first Boeing-modified 747 to be handed over in “mid-2028,” a delay of roughly four years. London’s Heathrow eases liquid and laptop rules after £1 billion security upgrade The airport completed a £1bn CT scanner upgrade across all four Heathrow terminals. This allows passengers to carry liquid containers up to two liters, and the removal of laptops from bags is no longer required. 7 dead, 1 seriously injured in plane crash at airport in Bangor, Maine, FAA says A Bombardier CL-600-2B16 Challenger 650 veered off the runway on takeoff and crashed at Bangor International Airport in Maine. I'm feeling a little spicy today, so let me ask you something: Is AI making you smarter or is it distracting you from what actually matters? Here's what I'm seeing with my clients right now. Business owners are losing money because they're outsourcing their decision-making to AI. People are trying to solve life problems at 3am by chatting with algorithms trained on data from people they'd never take advice from in real life. AI is an incredibly powerful tool, but we're at a critical moment where we need to pay attention to our attention. Today, we're talking about using what I call actual intelligence: yours. Featured Story Yesterday was chilly here in Daytona Beach, so my wife and I stayed inside with the fireplace on. We decided to wait until evening to watch the Landman finale, like it was 1978 and we were waiting for it to actually air on TV. But throughout the day, I'm scrolling Facebook and seeing all this wild stuff about the episode. Massive violence, shocking wedding scenes, cast members freaking out. I couldn't wait to see this massacre. We finally watch it, and it was nothing like that. Pretty good show, but completely different from what the online buzz promised. That's when it hit me: this wasn't manipulative people writing clickbait. It was AI making stuff up in real time, getting clicks and scrolls. We're living in a moment where you can't trust anything anymore. Important Points Whatever gets your attention gets your focus, and whatever you focus on is exactly what you get in your life. AI gives you the answers you want to hear based on what you've told it before, not necessarily what you need. Business owners are struggling to get leads because people don't trust anything in this AI-saturated world. Third, salvation has arrived—not just as a ticket to heaven, but as heaven breaking into earth right now. That Greek word for salvation means forgiveness is available, grace is overflowing, and redemption is real. The beauty of this night is that we don't need to travel great distances like the wise men did—there's no separation between us and Jesus anymore. We can simply lift our hands right where we are and worship the one who bridged every gap through his birth, death, and resurrection. You set a goal. You write it down. You're ready to go. Then life blows you off course. Your boss keeps you busy. Your spouse questions your plans. Your kids need you. And suddenly you're nowhere near where you wanted to be. Sound familiar? Pilots deal with this every single flight. The wind blows them off course, so they course correct. They crab into the wind. They adjust their heading. And they still arrive at their destination for that $375 hamburger. I break down why you need to stop expecting a straight path, start planning for the winds of life, and master the art of course correction. Plus, why the Krispy Kreme hot donut sign is the perfect metaphor for goal achievement. If you've been frustrated that life keeps getting in your way, this changes how you think about reaching your goals. Featured Story I live in Daytona Beach. We've got airplanes everywhere. Flight schools, banner towers, the whole deal. And when you look up, those airplanes are flying crooked. The nose is pointed off to the side because the wind is blowing from the west. Looks scary, right? But the pilot knows exactly what they're doing. They've set their course for Georgia, and if they don't correct for that western wind, they'll end up in Bermuda instead of getting that hamburger. So they crab into the wind. They course correct. They adjust their heading. That's how you hit your goals too. Life's going to blow you off course. Plan for it. Important Points The winds of life will always blow you off course — your boss, your spouse, your kids, your responsibilities — so stop expecting a straight path to your goals. Course correction is the skill you need, just like pilots do when wind pushes them sideways — adjust your heading and keep moving toward your destination. If your goal isn't sufficiently motivating (like a hot Krispy Kreme sign), you won't bother to wind correct at all and you'll end up somewhere else entirely. VERSAILLES, November 17, 2025 – Olivier Jansonnie is appointed Head of Stellantis Motorsport, effective 2026, January 31st. He will report to Emanuele Cappellano, Head of Enlarged Europe, European Brands and Stellantis Pro One. Olivier will replace Jean-Marc Finot who has elected to retire, they will work together during this transition period.   A graduate from Centrale-Supélec, Olivier Jansonnie is rich in more than 25 years of international experience in motorsport leading technical teams in different categories from LMP1, Hypercar, DTM, WRC, WRX and Cross-Country. Starting his career at Peugeot Sport in 1998, Olivier moved to Mitsubishi in 2003 leading the development of the Lancer WRC, then contributed as freelance to many programs in WRC or Endurance for Peugeot, including Le Mans 2009 win. In 2012, he became head of vehicle development at BMW, supervising Design Office, Aerodynamics development and Quality engineering for all BMW Group motorsport activities. Back to Peugeot Sport in 2016 as Technical Director & Automotive Project Director, he led the technical team for Peugeot Sport programs: Cross-Country (Dakar), WRX and e-WRX. LUKE BROWNING TO HIT THE TRACK IN ABU DHABI FP1 AND YOUNG DRIVER TEST Atlassian Williams Racing is pleased to share that Williams Racing Academy Driver Luke Browning will drive Alex Albon's FW47 in the first free practice session at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and will participate in the end-of-season Young Driver Test. Luke joined the Williams Racing Driver Academy in April 2023 following his stand-out 2022 season where he secured the GB3 Championship and won the 2022 Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award. Since joining the Academy he has continued this upward trajectory, winning the Macau Grand Prix in 2023, also taking pole position and the fastest lap, and finishing the 2024 FIA Formula 3 season in third with two race wins and a podium in Monaco. As part of the Williams Racing Driver Academy's proud tradition of giving young talent a path into F1, Luke has regularly driven in the Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) and simulator programmes with the aim of preparing him for the future. Museum) PEBBLE BEACH, CALIFORNIA (November 12, 2025)­­­­ — The mighty Sunbeam 1000 HP, the first car to achieve a land speed record of 200 mph, has been asleep for over 90 years. But a team of restorers at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, England, is now in the process of gently waking this giant—and if all goes as planned, the restored beast will make its US debut at the 2026 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance before attempting a centennial run at Daytona the following spring.    “The process of restoring a one-off car like this takes real dedication,” noted Concours Chairman Sandra Button. “There is no pattern to be followed. It takes time and research, effort and expertise. We are thrilled to know that the National Motor Museum intends to send the restored car to Pebble Beach, to share with enthusiasts here.”   The Sunbeam 1000 HP was built to compete in the race for speed. The 100 mph barrier was first broken in 1904, and then it took more than two decades to reach 150 mph—a record Malcolm Campbell achieved in July of 1925 at the wheel of a Sunbeam 350 HP. The Sunbeam 1000 HP, crafted around two of the marque's powerful 22.4-liter Matabele aero engines placed to the fore and aft of the vehicle, came into being less than two years later and proved to be revolutionary. Driving it on the smooth sands of Daytona Beach on March 29, 1927, Harry Segrave recorded a speed of 203.79 mph.   “This car has been at Beaulieu since before I was born and feels like a member of the family, but one I never expected to run again,” said Ralph, Lord Montagu of Beaulieu. “Watching the restoration take place has been fascinating as it has revealed so much I never knew about the car. It will be quite a thrill to have the car at Pebble Beach and is a great opportunity for us to wave the flag for the National Motor Museum!” The car's restoration is now well underway. The rear engine has already been disassembled, re-machined, restored, and refitted into the frame—and it was first fired up before an adoring crowd at the Beaulieu International Autojumble in early September. The museum team is now focused on restoring the front engine. When that, too, is back together and in place, the bodywork, which has already been restored, will be reinstalled.   “Over the last three and a half years, the Museum's team have worked tirelessly to make the mighty Sunbeam 1000 HP roar again, with help from a wide range of supporters, stakeholders and heritage engineering specialists,” said Jon Murden, Chief Executive of the National Motor Museum. “Having experienced the first of the car's remarkable engines running once more, we are all now thrilled at the prospect of the Sunbeam returning to the United States for the first time in a century.”   John, the second Baron Montagu of Beaulieu, was a motoring pioneer, who campaigned for the rights of early motorists. In the 1950s, his son Edward founded what is now the National Motor Museum to honor him, and that museum shares a long history with the Pebble Beach Concours. Edward first showed a car—his 1913 Alfonso Hispano-Suiza—at Pebble Beach in 1981, and the following year, he donated the Montagu of Beaulieu Trophy, which the Concours presents annually to the best British car shown on its competition field. That voice in your head keeps nudging you in a direction. You hear the same message from different sources. Random conversations suddenly feel connected. Is something trying to get your attention? I'm a practical guy who doesn't chase unicorns, but I can't ignore what happens when life starts dropping hints. As we head into winter and the holidays, messages have a way of getting louder. Most people already know what direction they should be going. They're just not willing to lean into it. This episode breaks down how to recognize when something's genuinely calling for your attention and what to do about it before you drive yourself crazy sitting on the fence. Featured Story It's 36 degrees in my Daytona Beach studio with a wind chill at 31. I'm wrapped in my alpaca hoodie thinking about how this time of year shifts us into reflection mode. I've coached thousands of people over the years, and something wild keeps happening. I'll share an insight with someone, and they'll look at me like I'm reading their mind. "Are you inside my head?" they ask. Kind of. Because we're all just humans navigating the same patterns. For me, the universe whispers all day long. I believe God created it, so those whispers feel like guidance. You can have whatever belief you want. But after years of coaching and living, I've noticed messages come in triplicate. Three times is when I start paying real attention. Hard-headed and distracted as I am, even I can't ignore the pattern by the third time. Important Points When seemingly random situations and people deliver the same message within a short time frame, your path is being altered whether you recognize it or not. You already know what direction you should be going, and if you're heading the wrong way, you know that too—you're just not willing to lean into what's obvious. When something gets your attention, you've got three choices: say yes and go for it, say no and move on, or sit on the fence getting splinters forever. Memorable Quotes "Most people already know kind of what direction they should be going. And usually if they're going the wrong direction, they kind of already know that. They're just not willing to lean into it." "If it starts getting your attention, it's real. Anything that gets your attention, it's going to take you down the road." "Eventually you will change when you wear yourself out. When you get tired of rejecting what is obvious that you have to do, you're going to do it anyway." Scott's Three-Step Approach Notice the pattern. Pay attention when the same message appears through different people, situations, or sources within days or a week—that's your signal something matters. Ask what you're supposed to learn. When patterns emerge, stop resisting and get curious about the lesson or direction being presented to you. Choose and act. Make the call—yes, no, or fence-sitting—but know that fence-sitting just delays the inevitable while causing unnecessary pain. Growing up in the 70s with a landline and an 18-foot cord taught him something valuable. He keeps his phone in another room while working because he knows what happens if it's within reach.
