So what happens when trans youth are old enough for puberty blockers? What do they have to go through to get access to that care? Let me tell you how difficult it was for me, as an adult, and you'll maybe see how many barriers trans kids actually face. And we discuss the lengths good parents will go to in order to keep their kids safe. Karla, the cis mom of a trans kid, returns to discuss finding your humanity. Trans care is more important than cis mistakes, and children are people, not property! In this message, Pastor Gunther unpacks Jesus' words to His disciples about sorrow being turned into joy. Just as labor pains give way to the joy of new life, so too does anguish in following Christ transform into unshakable joy through the power of the Holy Spirit. We are reminded of our suffering brothers and sisters around the world, the gift of the Spirit who guides us into truth, and the assurance that our prayers in Jesus' name are heard by the Father. Though the world may rejoice while believers weep, Christ promises a joy that no one can take away. Be encouraged that even in anguish, God is at work bringing forth life, hope, and joy by His Spirit. —
The legislature has left the building, but the Texas Impact team has been hard at work. Last week, we welcomed Texas Impact's Leadership Council to Austin for its annual in-person meeting. We left there, and several of us went to Dallas for a convening of organizations standing up against Christian Nationalism dubbed Religious Freedom in Public Schools Summit convened by Interfaith Alliance. Joining us to talk about both events are two of two of Texas Impact's newest policy fellows, Alexandra Lang and Dylan Le.

Mari Otsu joins Stephen Blackwood for a deeply personal conversation about her journey through the wounds of materialism, ideology, and spiritual forgetting, and her return to the soul through the beauty of the humanities. Reflecting on her years at NYU and the Grand Central Atelier, Mari speaks of a longing that nothing in the modern, politicized worldview could satisfy, and how she found healing in therapy, classical painting, and, most profoundly, the living philosophical community of Ralston College. Engaging with the works of Plotinus, Boethius, and Dante, she discovered a path of purification and ascent that restored her sense of meaning and inspired her to share these treasures with others. This conversation explores the roots of today's meaning crisis and the redemptive power of beauty, thought, and imagination to heal the soul. Every year in Japan, thousands of fathers fall victim to parental child abduction. It very often follows the same pattern: the Japanese mother leaves suddenly with the child and then forbids the father from seeing them again. These are abductions that fathers – Japanese and foreign alike – are powerless to fight, since Japan is one of the only countries in the world that does not recognise joint custody post-marriage. After a divorce, custody is granted to only one parent. But now, the law is about to change. FRANCE 24's correspondents Alexis Bregere, Mélodie Sforza and Adam Hancock report.

Sermon: Praying our Anguish, Series: Praying the Psalms, Rev. Matt Howell, Psalm 38
The Word of ANGUISH Matthew 27:46, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" This anguishing cry pierces time and eternity. It echoes with a depth of sorrow which no human mind can fully grasp. It was not the physical pain of His torture, nor the mockery of men--but the awful withdrawal of the Father's presence that wrung this cry of torment from the Savior's heart. This was not loss of faith, but the deepest agony of love, deprived of its joy. Never had the Son known such a moment. From all eternity, He had dwelt in perfect fellowship with the Father--one in essence, joy and will. Yet here, at Calvary's apex, Jesus was forsaken. Not as a sinner, for He was sinless. But as our sin-bearer. "God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us" (2 Corinthians 5:21). The absolutely Holy One, stood in the place of vile sinners. The Beloved One became accursed, that the cursed ones might become beloved. In this forsaking, Hell's horror was compressed into a moment--and endured by One Who could not sin and would not turn away. Here we behold the infinite cost of our redemption. Christ endured the wrath of the Father, so that we might have communion with Him. He was abandoned that we might be adopted. He was plunged into darkness so that we could walk in the light of God's favor. Let us tremble at this dreadful picture. Sin is no light thing. It required the cross. Not moral reformations. Not religious rituals. But the wrath-bearing death of the spotless Lamb. If the Father did not spare His own Son when sin was imputed to Him, then how can any presume to escape judgment apart from Jesus? Yet let us also adore. For this cry--as agonizing as it was--marks the very foundation of
Andy and Brendan are fired up for four months full of Ryder Cup discourse following Captain Keegan Bradley's win at the Travelers! They discuss the impact of this win on the American Ryder Cup team on both the captaincy, which Bradley said he would not relinquish, and the back half of the roster for Bethpage Black. The two also talk through Tommy Fleetwood's latest runner-up finish on the PGA Tour after failing to convert the 54-hole lead for what would have been his first career win in America. With Signature Events wrapped up, Brendan shares some #data on sponsor exemptions into these events and the results may shock you! From there, Andy goes deep on the course setup for the KPMG Women's PGA at PGA Frisco. Minjee Lee was able to separate from the pack and win her third career major championship, but many players were outspoken about an "unfair" setup. PJ chimes in with some blow-by-blow of the Kaulig Companies Championship where Miguel Angel Jimenez took down Steven Alker in a playoff. To wrap things up, some scuttlebutt from the ground at Travelers is shared regarding the most famous member of TPC River Highlands, Chris Berman.
Ben and Rob welcome Annihilation, Alex Garland's 2018 cosmic horror that proved too complex for the box office despite critical adoration. Starring Natalie Portman as a biologist on a grief-fuelled mission into a zone where DNA scrambles and metaphors get literal, Annihilation is part horror, part elegy, and part existential crisis. Alex Garland's adaptation of the novel is somehow even bleaker than the source novel, perhaps contributing to it often being considered a poor follow up to Ex Machina. But what's so interesting about Annihilation's five act structure? What's this about Alex Garland being a True Gamer? Is Annihilation a misunderstood masterpiece or a cosmic screensaver with a bear jump scare? Read Online“When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world.” John 16:21This truth can certainly be extended to any form of anguish we experience for a good reason. Note that the pain experienced in childbirth is pain for a good and holy reason. Therefore, the pain is forgotten, in a sense, when the mother sees and holds her newborn child. That suffering is forgotten in the sense that it is transformed into joy by the birth of a child. There is much in life that can cause anguish. In today's Gospel, Jesus goes on to say to His disciples: “So you also are now in anguish.” He says this because He had just finished speaking to them about His coming departure to the Father and about the suffering that they would all experience in the form of persecution. But then He says to them that after He departs and they no longer see Him, they will then see Him again and will rejoice. And He says, “On that day you will not question me about anything.” This is an important line to understand.Anguish, or any form of suffering, can tempt us to question our lives and even to question God. It is clear that after Jesus was killed, the disciples questioned everything. They were confused and frightened. All appeared to be lost. Then, to a lesser degree, after Jesus ascended into Heaven and prior to Him sending the Holy Spirit, the disciples would have also experienced confusion. Why did Jesus leave them? Why didn't He stay longer? Who was going to lead them now? These and many other similar questions would have arisen in their minds. So also with us, when things do not go as planned, or when things take a painful turn in our lives, we can immediately question and even doubt the perfect plan of God. If things fall apart because of our sin, then repentance is the remedy. But if things fall apart, in the sense that life becomes difficult, then we should especially listen to the words of Jesus today. When anguish in life happens because we are fulfilling God's will, we must see that anguish as a means to a much greater good. Just as the pains of childbirth lead to the gift of a child, so the pains of bringing forth God's will in our lives will lead to the presence of God Himself. Patient endurance is a virtue that is especially important in this case. For example, the anguish of overcoming an addiction, or of praying when we don't feel like praying, or of forgiving someone who hurt us are all examples of anguish turning into blessings. Very often, combatting our own selfish will is difficult. But the fruit of engaging in such a battle within us is joy. There is joy found in victory over sin. Joy is found in persevering in prayer. Joy is found in every difficulty we endure for the Kingdom of God. But the joy is not always our first experience. It is only experienced when we patiently endure the situation.Reflect, today, upon any form of anguish you are currently enduring for the glory of God, or anything you are currently avoiding because it seems difficult to do. Do not shy away from these difficulties. See them as a means to a glorious end. Endure the “labor pains” of the purification and mission God is calling you to by looking beyond the difficulties you initially experience so that you will see the end result that awaits you.My glorious Lord, You endured Your passion with perfect virtue. You never wavered from fulfilling the will of the Father, and the fruit of Your perseverance was the glory of the Resurrection. Please help me to patiently endure the crosses in my life and give me hope to see that from them You will bring forth the good fruit of eternal joy. Ps. Melissa uses the powerful story in Genesis of Jospeh to give hope that in the very place the heartache was caused—when we trust God with our pain and stay faithful—he can turn it into fruit.

Poltergeists. Reptilians. Shadow people. Ghosts. For two decades, Julie lived in fear — but what if it wasn't just one of these, but all of them? Or was it something else entirely?Darkness Syndicate members get the ad-free version of #WeirdDarkness: https://weirddarkness.com/syndicateIN THIS EPISODE: If you've listened to Weird Darkness for any length of time, you know that I will often suggest someone who has had a paranormal disturbance in their home or life, reach out to a pastor or priest for guidance. But what exactly happens when the Catholic Church starts investigating the paranormal? (When The Catholic Church Goes Ghost Hunting) *** Many states around America say they have the most haunted road in the country. And while the words “most haunted” are somewhat subjective, it's hard not to see why people outside of Chicago consider Archer Avenue not only the top spooky street in America, but the most haunted on the planet. (The Anguish Of Archer Avenue) *** After allegedly murdering her husband in 1960, Sharon Kinne shot her lover's pregnant wife. Then, she evaded justice and escaped to Mexico only to kill again — before vanishing without a trace. (The American Murderess Who Disappeared in 1969) *** Modern courtrooms aren't equipped or knowledgable enough to determine whether or not ghosts are real, but that hasn't stopped ghosts from appearing in several court cases! (Court Cases Involving Ghosts) *** When you hear of a two-headed creature you typically think of two heads side-by-side growing from the neck and shoulders area. But have you ever heard of a creature growing another head on the very top of it's other head? It happened… and not to just any creature. It was a human boy who lived much longer than anyone expected. (The Bengal Boy With Two Heads) *** Buried alive inside the castle walls, the Finnish Maiden immured still haunts the medieval building of Olavinlinna Castle. (The Maiden of Olavinlinna Castle) *** The case of “Julie” from Carlisle in the United Kingdom is an intriguing one not only because it unfolded over many years, but because it appears to straddle the line between apparent reptilian entities and paranormal activity.
