On the 66th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, Shout It Out Loudcast Hall Of Famer, Nige Savage , review the self-titled 1987 classic thrash album from Anthrax, "Among The Living." Anthrax is considered to be part of the Big 4 of Thrash, along with Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer. Their classic lineup which was on Among The Living, consisted of drummer extraordinaire, Charlie Benante, who amazingly wrote most of their guitar riffs, rhythm guitarist Scott Ian who wrote most of their lyrics bassist Frank Bello, who was Charlie's nephew, lead guitarist Dan Spitz and lead singer Joey Belladonna. The band was looking to get to the next level and enlisted legendary producer Eddie Kramer to get their 3rd album just right. The album made it to Number 62 on the Billboard Charts and went gold. Among The Living was a breakthrough for the band and is considered their best album by many. The album featured many classic Anthrax songs like, I Am The Law, Indians, Caught In A Mosh and more. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. For the debut episode of The David Ellefson Show, legendary Anthrax bassist Frank Bello joins David Ellefson and Joshua Toomey for an epic conversation packed with killer stories, bass talk, and plenty of laughs. Frank dives into his new partnership with Spector Basses, detailing his journey to the brand and what makes his signature bass stand out.The stories don't stop there—Frank shares an unforgettable moment when he and a friend found themselves buzzed into a recording studio, only to walk in on none other than Gene Simmons casually eating cookies. From the madness of NAMM to the inevitable plague known as "NAMMthrax," the guys recall their experiences at the convention, including the all-too-real struggle of playing shows while sick. Frank even gives a hands-on bass demo, breaking down "Room for One More," and discusses his time with Metal Allegiance.David and Joshua kick off the show with a deep dive into the legacy of Cliff Burton, discussing whether David was ever asked to emulate his iconic playing style. The conversation then shifts to original Metallica bassist Ron McGovney, as Joshua wonders if he was ever considered for a spot in Megadeth. David also shares some of his earliest memories of Anthrax bassist Frank Bello, reflecting on their history and the thrash metal scene of the era. To wrap things up, the guys take a nostalgic look back at Megadeth's first-ever show on February 17, 1984, in San Francisco—breaking down the setlist, the atmosphere, and what it meant for the band's future. Welcome to another invigorating episode of The BoatCast, your go-to podcast for all things music. Today, we are thrilled to feature Patty PerShayla and Lucas Powell of Rock Boat Soundcheck winners, Patty PerShayla & The Mayhaps. Patty PerShayla, a former small-town pageant queen, embraced a rock 'n' roll persona that propelled her to success. With her solo EP, "Oracle Bones," she won the 2019 WYCE Jammie Award for Best Rock/Pop Album. Teaming up with guitarist Lucas Powell and drummer Alec Klinefelter, she formed Patty PerShayla & The Mayhaps, delivering blues-infused, riff-driven music. Their debut album, "Cheap Diction," garnered attention as the band toured extensively before relocating to Nashville. The Mayhaps, despite being a three-piece band, create an electrifying sound with powerful guitar solos and captivating vocals. Patty PerShayla's larger-than-life stage presence adds to the spectacle, wielding a bass guitar nearly the size of her wingspan. While addressing the internet's impact on "Cheap Diction," the band successfully crowdfunded their music video for "Slo Mo" and received accolades at various film festivals. Patty also engages with her audience through Patreon and showcases her talent through Instagram's #1RAD challenge and YouTube covers of heavy metal songs on the ukulele. In addition to her work with The Mayhaps, Patty joined forces with The Accidentals during their 2021 national tour and performed alongside YYNOT as their lead singer. Her involvement in the music community extends to collaborations with renowned artists, such as Mike Portnoy and Frank Bello, in tribute to Neil Peart. Looking ahead, Patty PerShayla & The Mayhaps are gearing up for an extensive tour and plan to record their next full-length album. We close our fourth season with an incredible interview with the remarkable Jeremy Chatelain.  Originally from Utah's hardcore scene, fronting the band's Insight and Iceburn, he made his way to New York City and found himself fronting a “supergroup” that became Handsome. Handsome, included ex-Helmet guitarist Peter Mengede and ex-Quicksand guitarist Tom Capone recorded a self-titled debut for Epic Records. The album is known for its aggressive music and incredible lyrics and continues influencing musicians.  Kerrang! listed Handsome as one of the "12 most underrated albums of the '90s," while Louder Sound included them on a list of the "top 50 cult metal bands". After he left Handsome, Chatelain formed Jets to Brazil with singer Blake Schwarzenbach of Jawbox. The band recorded three well-received albums from 1998 - 2002 In 2005 Jeremy joined the band Helmet to play bass, replacing Frank Bello on the Size Matters tour, but left in September 2006.  Since 2000 he has written and performed with his alt-country leaning band Cub Country. Oh, he's also and entrepreuneur and children's book author. No, you read that correctly. We're going out BIG - this is an interview that is going in the vault.  Many, many thanks to Jeremy!! Frank Bello is up first. He talks about his solo LP - Then I'm Gone...why do a solo effort, why he didn't play the drums, and more. He tells me what people think it sounds like, and how writing and recording these tracks was similar to putting out his book. We discussed his uncle, and Anthrax drummer, Charlie Benante's role in the upcoming Pantera shows. He tells me about side project that Joey Belladonna is working on, the great voice that is John Bush...and lots more! Jeff Plate rounds out the show as the Trans Siberian Orchestra come to a town near you. We talk about rehearsals, spending time on the road away from family during the holidays, what he does the other ten months of the year, all while be distracted by something that's never happened to me in any interview I've ever done....but Jeff powers through.  -Meltdown- https://www.thefrankbello.com/ https://www.trans-siberian.com/ https://wrif.com/podcasts/talkin-rock-with-meltdown/

Anthrax went to church when they brought their Covid-delayed 40th anniversary tour to Nashville—the Mother Church of Country Music, that is, aka the Ryman Auditorium—on August 15. And PG's Perry Bean was there to welcome the thrash metal royals and talk with guitarists Scott Ian and Jon Donais, and bassist Frank Bello. Some things have changed in their gear since our https://www.premierguitar.com/gear/rig-rundown-anthraxs-scott-ian-and-rob-caggiano (earlier Rundown), in 2012, but not Ian's loyalty to Jackson, which makes the signature-model King V's he loves to play. Donais is equally stoked on his Dean Exile signature axe, which he also used on the recent Shadows Fall reunion tour. And Bello shared his new signature Charvel bass and EMG pickups. Ian kicked things off, playing his V with a vintage-diner-tile-style finish, his current favorite. Check it out! Brought to you by https://ddar.io/XSE.RR (D'Addario XS Coated Strings).

Frank Bello is the bassist for the legendary Anthrax who are on tour right now celebrating their 40th anniversary. In 1981 the world first heard of the New York thrash metal band Anthrax. It was 1985's 'Spreading the Disease' that put them on the map and they haven't looked back. They have overcome trends and band changes to be here today. When famed Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde started Black Label Society and one of the first calls Zakk made to start the band was to his friend JD to handle bass duties. After leaving the band for a bit in the early 2000's, he's been back since. Add in the band Hatebreed and you have one hell of a tour.

Combining the literary influence of horror legend Stephen King with the ultra-groovy, ultra-speedy, and ultra-heavy thrash metal wizardry of ANTHRAX could only result in one possible (yet ever so glorious) outcome:  the 1987 masterpiece, AMONG THE LIVING.    The album is so mind blowing & perfect that had it been released in 1986, all other forms of “lesser” music (aka: everything NOT thrash) would have been immediately deleted and erased from all of existence (and from all multiverses) and The Big 4 would have reigned for a thousand years in peace, unity, and metal.    It's time to “juxtapose and accentuate” the “sound of summer” as we contemplate “mosh parts vs breakdowns”, hypothesize whether or not “boner pills would work as nipple pills” while simultaneously imagining “bald beavers and shaved tang” on spring break. “C'mon man” don't be a “nincompoop” and JOIN US for a dive into ANTHRAX's masterwork:  AMONG THE LIVING!!!   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merch and kindly leave us a review and/or rating on the iTunes/Apple Podcasts - Spotify or your favorite Podcast app Listen on iTunes, Spotify, Podbean, Google Podcasts or wherever you get your Podcasts. This week Im having a chat with Joel McIver. Since 2012, Joel has been the editor of Bass Guitar magazine, and since 2018, editor of Bass Player after the two publications merged. His best-known work is Justice for All: The Truth About Metallica, first published in 2004 and appearing in nine languages since then. As well as writing his own books, McIver also co-writes musicians' autobiographies. The first of these was the memoir of sometime Deep Purple bassist Glenn Hughes, published in 2011. Other memoirs co-written by McIver include those of Max Cavalera of Soulfly, Megadeth bassist David Ellefson, David Bowie's former drummer Woody Woodmansey and blues veteran John Mayall. Joel's latest book Fathers, Brothers, and Sons: Surviving Anguish, Abandonment, and Anthrax Hardcover by Frank Bello and Joel McIver is out Oct 12th. ► https://twitter.com/JoelMcIver ► https://www.instagram.com/joel.mciver/?hl=en ► https://www.facebook.com/joelmciver Thanks for checking out my channel.
