In this episode of The Truth In This Art, the guest is Khadija Jahmila!About Khadija Jahmila: Silver Spring, Maryland–based Afro-Caribbean mixed-media artist, mother, and teaching artist working across hand-cut analog and digital collage. Her pieces pull from folklore and surrealism, layering found and donated print material onto wood panels and reclaimed metal to explore what gets carried forward and what gets left behind.Jahmila talks about the apartment building her family first lived in after settling in Maryland, and how a printed photo of that building became what she calls the "spark image" for a larger piece she made during her residency at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop. She also remembers the exact moment she started calling herself an artist: twenty-one years old, sitting on a sidewalk outside her freshman dorm, writing poetry and reading it back to herself. Good enough that she believed it.Much of the conversation circles back to material. Jahmila started out working almost exclusively with paper, building early pieces from posters she'd picked up after the People's Climate March. Residencies pushed her further, onto wood, onto salvaged street signs, into printing photographs for the first time instead of only scavenging them. She talks about surrealism as something closer to survival than style, a way the African diaspora has always reached for new realities when the old ones didn't leave room to breathe. "We are building the world we want to see," she says at one point, almost in passing.Jahmila also walks through how her relationship with Eaton DC started small, at a local pop-up market, when the hotel's program director stopped in front of one of her digital collages and asked if she'd ever thought about a show. That conversation led to her first solo exhibition, Hindsight is 2020, a piece she nearly lost when her basement flooded mid-project. She talks about salvaging what survived and finishing the work anyway, water damage and all. There's also a section on her year as Season Artist for Baltimore Center Stage, where she worked across six productions with directors and playwrights. She lights up talking about it, comparing it to designing album art—another place where her collage instincts collaborate with someone else's story.Explore Khadija Jahmila's portfolio at khadijajahmila.com/portfolio, and follow her on Instagram at @khadija.jahmila. She currently has work on view in Thresholds at Techne Fine Art in Rockville (through August 22) and SUPERIMPOSED at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center (through August 9), and will exhibit at the FEMME Art Fair at International Square August 26–30.Photo courtesy of subject. 6-30-26 Tonight we're getting together with Glenn Lavender, owner and meadmaker at Silver Hand Meadery in Williamsburg, VA. Glenn Lavender is a musician, mead maker, entrepreneur, and educator who founded Silver Hand Meadery in Williamsburg, Virginia, now in its 11th year. His journey into mead began in an unexpected place: on the road as a touring musician and in the pages of homesteading and historical fiction books, where a curiosity about honey bees and mead grew into a passion for varietal honey, fermentation, and the ancient craft of mead. Through Silver Hand Meadery, Glenn has built one of Virginia's most recognized mead brands, with a mead club of more than 800 members, distribution throughout Virginia including Virginia ABC and Total Wine, and private-label projects for historic institutions such as Colonial Williamsburg and Monticello. The meadery's tasting room and educational space has introduced thousands of people to the diversity of honey, the magic of the honey bee, and the creativity of modern mead making. Silver Hand has recently expanded beyond mead into cider production, continuing its commitment to crafting distinctive fermented beverages. An advocate for mead education and industry growth, Glenn played a pivotal role in helping create the Virginia Mead Trail, supporting the visibility and success of mead producers across the Commonwealth. He has also been a featured speaker at the American Wine Society National Conference (2025) and the North Carolina Winegrowers Association Conference (2026), helping introduce new audiences to mead and its place within the broader world of wine and fermentation. In May 2026, Silver Hand Meadery's mead was served on the Today Show, bringing national attention to America's oldest fermented beverage. Glenn's passion for varietal honey and terroir continues to shape Silver Hand's approach to mead making and education. A lifelong musician, Glenn continues to connect his passions for music, hospitality, and community through Silver Hand Meadery, which has become Williamsburg's home for jazz, hosting regular performances that bring together local musicians and audiences. Whether discussing honey varieties, fermentation, entrepreneurship, or the future of American mead, Glenn's goal remains the same: helping people discover something worth savoring. Women are often told to be careful with aging bones. Go light. Don't lift heavy. In this episode, I break down why that advice is backward, and what the research says to do instead. After menopause, bone and muscle break down at the same time, driven by the same drop in estrogen, and almost no one connects those dots for you. I cover how fast women lose bone, why muscle loss tracks right alongside it, why women carry more risk than men, and why heavy strength training is the most proven way to fight back.We dig into the landmark LIFTMOR trial, where postmenopausal women with low bone mass lifted heavy, safely, and built bone in the places that tend to break, plus evidence that strength training works into your 90s and a simple way to start if heavy lifting feels intimidating. In this episode:How fast women lose bone after menopauseWhy osteoporosis stays silent until something breaksHow muscle loss tracks alongside bone lossWhat the LIFTMOR trial proved about lifting with low bone massWhy intensity matters, and why it's never too late to startStudies referenced:Bone loss & resistance training (Frontiers in Physiology, 2023): https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9941565/Muscle loss meta-analysis: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9739568/Women's sarcopenia risk & first-line treatment (Frontiers in Public Health, 2025): https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC12883749/LIFTMOR Trial (Watson et al., 2018): https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28975661/Strength training to age 96: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10721690/Train with us at Prepare for Performance (PFP) in Rockville, MD, serving the DMV.
Amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainty, regional manufacturing initiatives, and evolving supply chain risks reshaping the pharmaceutical industry, manufacturers are rethinking how biologics are produced and delivered around the world. Rather than relying on centralized production models, many organizations are expanding regional manufacturing footprints and developing more integrated production networks designed to improve resilience, reduce operational risk, and support long-term supply continuity. In this episode of Off Script, we spoke with Jeff Mason, VP and head of the New Jersey Sales Office at Samsung Biologics, about how CDMOs are adapting to this changing landscape. The discussion follows Samsung Biologics establishing its first U.S. manufacturing presence through the acquisition of GSK's biologics facility in Rockville, Maryland, reflecting the broader industry shift toward regional manufacturing capacity. The conversation explores the growing importance of regional manufacturing strategies, why customers are increasingly seeking manufacturing redundancy from the outset of commercialization, how vertically integrated service models can simplify complex supply chains, and what the next generation of global manufacturing ecosystems could look like as companies balance efficiency with resilience.

As Jonathan Levy prepares to preside over his final Grade 12 graduation ceremony as head of school on Wednesday June 17, the outgoing leader of TanenbaumCHAT says the mission of Jewish education has never been clearer. "We need an incredibly strong ark so that we can go out and be among the people," Levy told teachers, students, parents and staff during a speech at a recent farewell tribute, reflecting on a 17-year tenure that ends in June. The American-born educator saw Canada's largest private Jewish high school navigate declining enrolment, mergers, then rapid growth, the COVID pandemic, and most recently, the challenges facing Jewish students after Oct. 7. But Levy says, throughout it all, his goal has always been the same: helping to build a new generation of Jewish leaders ready to engage confidently with the wider world. He is leaving Toronto for a new leadership role beginning July 1 running one of the most prominent Jewish private schools in the United States: the Charles E. Smith JDS in Rockville, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C. It has a smaller enrolment and is spread on two campuses spanning Grades K-12. Levy, one of Canada's most influential Jewish educators, joins today's episode of The CJN's North Star podcast with host Ellin Bessner to discuss what pluralistic Jewish education looks like now. On this episode of the EarthWorks Podcast, we sit down with Ryan Severidt, Superintendent at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland. Ryan's career has taken him from the Midwest to some of the most challenging turf environments in the country, managing both cool-season and warm-season grasses across a variety of climates and conditions.Ryan began his career at Kinloch Golf Club in Richmond, Virginia, one of the first all-bentgrass golf courses built that far south. Despite skepticism from many in the industry, Kinloch established itself as a world-class property. As Ryan explains, success came from focusing on the work at hand and doing whatever was necessary to keep the course performing at a high level. He later moved to The Olde Farm in Bristol, Virginia, where higher elevations and a cooler climate provided a different set of opportunities for managing bentgrass. His next move to Woodmont Country Club introduced a new challenge: maintaining both bermudagrass and zoysiagrass in the Mid-Atlantic region, where changing weather patterns continue to influence turf management decisions.Ryan discusses the increasing adoption of warm-season grasses in the region, the challenges presented by the winter of 2025, and how environmental conditions continue to shape management strategies. He also shares his approach to leadership, emphasizing education, communication, and helping team members understand the "why" behind every decision. By creating a culture of learning, Ryan has built strong teams and developed future industry leaders. This conversation offers valuable insights into turf management, leadership, and adapting to changing conditions in one of the most dynamic growing environments in the country.Visit EarthWorks at: https://www.earthworksturf.com Podcasts: https://www.earthworksturf.com/earthworks-podcasts/ EW Turf Talks: https://www.earthworksturf.com/2-minute-turf-talks/

(22:40) The paradigm shift of GLP-1 receptor agonists and the impact they can have on shared inflammatory pathways. Key Takeaways: · Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) agonists are two incretin hormones that assist in managing excess body weight -- which as a result can be helpful in managing inflammation in the body. · Psoriasis isn't just a skin and joint disease. It's a complex network of systemic inflammation with shared inflammatory pathways that worsens with increased weight impacting the severity of the disease, and accelerates the risk of metabolic dysfunction, and cardiovascular disease. · The best outcomes occur as a result of multidisciplinary collaboration to address the impact of excess weight and systemic inflammation. If you are struggling to lose weight with diet and exercise, speak with your medical team about your options including the use of GLP-1 or GIP agonists. This episode of Kliq This finds Kevin Nash in a remarkably candid and fiery mood as he transitions from the serene shores of Lake Michigan to the high-stakes corporate drama currently unfolding in the wrestling world. While he shares lighthearted tales of family trips to the tulip festival and the Detroit zoo, the legendary "Big Sexy" quickly pivots to the heavy-hitting news of massive pay cuts and executive bonuses within TKO. His unfiltered perspective provides a rare look at the friction between old-school wrestling mentalities and the new corporate hierarchy. The conversation dives deep into the strategic shifts occurring at the top of the industry, specifically questioning the creative autonomy of Triple H amidst a changing landscape. Nash doesn't hold back his thoughts on the rumored salary reductions for veteran talent and the absence of top stars like Roman Reigns from upcoming schedules. By dissecting the "corporate wrestling" phenomenon, the show explores whether the soul of the business is being sacrificed for the sake of balance sheets and shareholder meetings. Beyond the boardroom battles, the duo pays tribute to the monumental legacy of the late Ted Turner, reflecting on his role as a maverick who revolutionized cable television. They also tackle fan questions ranging from the potential for a wrestling union to the finer points of modern character work. This installment serves as a provocative analysis of where the industry stands today, blending historical reverence with a sharp, contemporary critique of the powers that be. Onyango Okello https://www.amazon.com/Revival-Rockville-Joseph-Onyango-Okello/dp/B0GPRH6ZRM Onyangookello.com Louella Goodman, a hardworking entrepreneur with strong Christian values, finds herself in the crosshairs of a powerful and corrupt business mogul who intends to destroy her business and take over her operations. When her business is vandalized and shut down, Rockville's police department opens an investigation—only to face interference from the mogul's agents who are determined to derail the case. 5-5-26 Tonight we're hanging with Tony Qualls. Tony is meadmaker/owner of Manic Meadery and brewer/owner of Gnosis Brewing. And he puts on the Sugarbelt Mead Festival every year. A busy guy! Tony is not just a meadery owner, he's also a musician. He toured in the band Groovatron for 12 years, doing over 1500 shows in 12 years (makes me tired just thinking about all that travel!). In April 2024, Tony and the gang opened Gnosis Brewing, also in Merrillville, Indiana. Founded by Tony, Keith, Eric, Adam, and Brandon, the brewery embodies an unending quest for beer perfection, continually evolving to delight both new craft beer enthusiasts and seasoned connoisseurs. With a commitment to quality over quantity, Gnosis Brewing rigorously tests each beer recipe through multiple batches and trials before it reaches the customer. The brewery aims to push the boundaries of traditional brewing, ensuring that every release meets their high standards of excellence. Tony is a lifelong entrepreneur, having run a vinyl record company, painting company and a bunch of other businesses. Plus he's a skilled tradesman in welding and carpentry (that would help with build out!). Tony has been married to his lovely wife Vanessa for 12 years, and they have two kids. Not to sit on his laurels, Tony plans to pursue law school and recording backlogs of musical material while running his meadery (getting tired again, lol). He likes to mountain bike and ride his motorcycle in his free time (he has free time?). Tony co-founded Manic Meadery with Keith Cantwell in 2018 in Crown Point, Indiana. Manic is a small batch meadery, and they also do wine and cider. They've gotten a lot of interest in their sweet dessert meads using whole fruit and often multiple adjuncts. Tony is also a BJCP mead judge, and holder of Mazer Cup awards for both home and commercial mead. The plans for Manic in 2020 include increasing self distribution, expanding their production space, and organizing a mead-only festival, the Sugarbelt Mead Fest. The Midwest hides its darkness well — tucked between cornfields, covered bridges, and quiet main streets. But if you know where to look, the past refuses to stay buried. In this week's episode, we venture deep into the heart of America to investigate two locations where history and horror walk hand in hand. Our first stop is Billie Creek Village, a living history museum just outside Rockville, Indiana — home to over 30 historic buildings, three covered bridges, and more than a century's worth of untold stories. By day, it's a charming step back into 19th-century rural life. But when the lights go out and the tour groups leave, visitors and staff have reported flickering shadows, disembodied voices, and the unsettling feeling that the residents of Billie Creek never quite left. Then, we'll head to Detroit to visit, and maybe dine, at the David Whitney House, simply known as The Whitney, a mansion-turned-restaurant. After we have a drink in the Ghost Bar, we'll be on the lookout for the mysterious woman in the bathroom. The second floor is haunted by the ghosts of children who can be heard laughing and playing. No visit to the Whiteny would be complete without a visit to the carriage house where a table has been set up in deference to one of the Whitney daughters, Grace. On the rare occasion that Grace's tea set has been relocated, the haunted activity increases. It's best to leave Grace's table alone.Billie Creek VillageBillie Creek Wikipedia ArticleBillie Creek Owl ArticleThe Ghoul Guide – Civil War FarmhouseWandering Wagners – Billie CreekMiddle Aged Bald Guy – Billie CreekHaunted US – Billie CreekProject Fear – Billie Creek VillageHistory — The Whitney - Iconic Detroit Restaurant Ghost Files from the Mitten - The WhitneyHaunted Whitney Restaurant | America's Haunted RoadtripGhost hunting at The Whitney and the Orson Starr House, 3-D Invisibles| Full EpisodeHaunted Detroit: The Whitney and The Orson Starr House - Detroit PBS Send us Fan MailIf you have an experience, story, or anything else you'd like to share with us, you can email us at Opeaghost@gmail.com You can also follow us on Instagram, Join our Facebook group : Ope, A Ghost, or Follow us on YoutubeToodles!
