Here's your host, Ian Roth. Hey, how's it going everybody? This is Ian from the Talking Llama Podcasts, the founder, CEO and president of Talking Llama Media. So, doing another podcasting 101 episode today and this one is going to be 10 facts about podcasting. So the goal of this series again is to get you know, the person may be sitting there thinking of starting a podcast to give you some information, arm you with some knowledge and facts so that you can take that big step and start your journey down the road to podcasting. It is one of the craziest, yet most rewarding things I've ever done. It is so fun. It allows me to release this creativity that I have inside me, and is so awesome. Not only that I've connected to all these other great people across the country, across the world, that I never would have otherwise spoken with. So, podcasting 101, we're doing 10 facts about podcasting today. Fact number one, 197 million Americans have heard of podcasts. So to put it another way, that is 70% of Americans are aware that podcasts exist. So compare that to 2006 where only 22% of US adults said they are familiar with podcasting, in 2020 70% or 197 million Americans have heard of podcast. So again, if you're thinking of starting a podcast, there are a lot of people out there that are listening to podcasts. Another good reason why you should start. I think instead of 10 facts about podcasting, this should really be 10 reasons why you should start your podcast. Fact number two, 51% of Americans, again, the majority of Americans over the age of 12 have listened to podcasts. So that is 144 million podcast listeners. Podcasts are blowing up the sound waves and the media world. So again, over half of Americans have listened to podcasts. Do it now, start a podcast. Going to fact and reason number three, 32% of Americans have listened to podcasts in the last month or once a month. So, 32%, almost a third of Americans listen to podcast once a month. That is a hell of a lot of people. I mean, if you have a business, if you have a brand or if you just have some stuff you want to say, there are people out there who want to listen to you, and if you're a business, you need to leverage this media to communicate with your audience. It's just so powerful. People can take their podcasts everywhere, you know it's on their phone, have those kind of high-speed Bluetooth, no wire, earbuds in their ears walking around, like they're the cool guy on the block. They can listen to your podcast and so many people do, so 32% of Americans are doing this once a month, I think it's time for you to start your podcast. Moving on to number four, 67% of podcasts audiences are Support this podcast
Solutions have no value… They ONLY derive their value from the problems they solve.
A lot of people don’t realise the impact social media is having on their business right now. Content marketing is all about creating value. And solutions have no value... They ONLY derive their value from the problems they solve. Few people know this better than Nik and Alex from Hi Smile who turned $20K into $60M in 3 years by selling teeth whitening products. They made 2018’s Forbes 30 under 30 rich list, and have enlisted names like Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, and Conor McGregor in their influencer line up. This episode, we talk about how to deal with failure and create discipline, and why you should pick work ethic over talent. There is SO MUCH value in this one guys! Keep listening! Time stamps: 5:04 - Ideas v Execution. How they got to $60M 11:35 - Discipline in startups 13:00 - Hi Smile’s influencer marketing strategy 18:25 - What startups should do in the first 6 months 21:25 - Scaling 34:52 - The importance of nurturing talent 46:58 - How social media is changing the game

Today's Topic Starting your writing journey Writing is the second most important skill a worldbuilder can know. Curiosity is still the most important skill. Writing is invaluable to a worldbuilder, because you hone your delivery skills and immerse yourself in the world you are creating. It does not matter what medium you share your work. The benefit comes from the exercise you mind receives when writing down the details of the world. You need not ever share your writing to become a writer. However, if you ever want to share the art of your worldbuilding you need to become a writer. Please Subscribe, Rate and Review us on iTunes For complete Fantasy Worldbuilding, show notes go to Gardul.com The only two things that a writer need to do? You only need to do two things to become a writer. Reading and Writing. You need to spend time reading great works. Not as a fan, but you are looking to find how the writer accomplishes. You are just looking for the brushstrokes used by authors to deliver their stories. I think Jeff Goins summed it up really well in his article, “Why Writers Need to Read if They Want to Be Good”. Don’t read to accomplish anything. Study language. Read what others are reading. Remember, your reading as a writer is not about genre. Personally, I avoid reading new fantasy novels at this point when I am writing. I am looking for writers of other genres to inspire me with different ways to deliver words on the page. The next step If you need to improve your reading comprehension or writing skills, even after you start practicing those skills. Do not give up. Look for others to help you. Writing circles Beta read for others Look for online courses from authors you respect Look for more academic help through classes from colleges or through places like Great Courses Plus. Author vs writer? Now, I do not believe writers have to be published authors. However, if want to share your content online in any form. You need to add more writing to your routine. You might want to write novels, short stories, or RPG adventures; or you might want to simply make videos, share art, or do a podcast. All of these types of creatives should write. However, if you are in the first group. Those people who will deliver their art through the written word. You need to start reading and writing every day. For the rest of you, try do spend some time every week. The only risk to you is exercising your mind.
