We've never done an episode quite like this before. We sat down with writer and creative Allie Carr—twice. In October 2025, she was just beginning to emerge from a really difficult chapter. When we spoke again in February 2026, her spark for life was fully back, and the seeds she had planted were unfolding in real time. In the months between, Allie moved through a Saturn return, career pivots, financial uncertainty, and a deep shedding of who she used to be. What looked like falling apart was actually falling into place. This conversation is a reminder that manifestation often has a full arc: the breakdown, the becoming, and the moment it all clicks. In this episode of Hungry for Love, we're talking about something so many people believe they're missing: confidence. Most of us were taught that confidence is something you need before you take action. That one day you'll finally feel ready, brave, certain, and then you'll go after what you want. But the truth? Confidence doesn't come first. Confidence is created through action. If you keep waiting to feel ready, you may end up waiting forever. In this episode, I'm breaking down the lie we've been sold about confidence and sharing what actually builds it—especially if you've experienced emotional abuse, toxic relationships, or years of self-doubt. We'll talk about: Why waiting to feel ready slowly erodes your confidence How fear and avoidance keep you stuck in cycles of hesitation Why your brain resists new things (and how to work with it instead of against it) How toxic voices from the past can become the loudest voice in your head Why confidence grows through repetition and self-trust, not perfection I'll also share a personal story about becoming a yoga teacher and how saying yes before I felt ready completely changed my relationship with confidence. Because real confidence isn't about avoiding failure. It's about knowing you'll have your own back no matter what happens. If you've been waiting to feel ready to start the thing, say the truth, or pursue the life you want—this episode will help you understand why action is the very thing that builds the confidence you're looking for. Send a textThe sky can look spotless and still your stomach drops. That sudden jolt of self-doubt—the kind that destroys your inner peace without warning—is the launching point and our analogy to explore how faith turns turbulence into training. We connect the cockpit to the chapel, showing why the gospel isn't just a belief system; it's a design system that equips your soul for real troubles, not fairytales. We start by naming the voice that says you're not enough, then align it to clear air turbulence: invisible currents that surprise even steady travelers. From Moses' shaky start to Christ's calm in the storm, we trace how God meets us right where we feel weak and helps us understand that he says: I will be with thee. That promise reshapes identity. The world grades you on performance and streaks; Jesus calls you a child of God and promises grace that turns weakness into strength. When the adversary pushes discouragement to create spiritual paralysis, this identity breaks the spiral.I share practical gospel tips on how to overcome self-doubt by living the gospel. Prayer reconnects you to the Master Pilot who sees what you can't. Scripture recalibrates the false narratives that fuel doubt, moving the mind from self-focus to God-trust. Service disrupts isolation and proves that God works through imperfect people to answer real prayers. We return to the storm on the sea to underline a pattern: Christ calms the heart before He stills the wind. Finally, we frame covenants, repentance, and the sacrament as seatbelts—simple, steady anchors that keep you safe while life shakes. The takeaway is simple and strong: self-doubt is turbulence, not your destination. Trust the One who commands the sky, stay in your seat, and keep flying. If this message helps steady your soul, tap follow, share it with someone who needs courage today, and leave a quick review to help more people find their footing in the choppy air.Support the showYou can reach me anytime at email: tandrewsen.monat@gmail.comInstagram @toddtalks_ig

Well, you aren't alone.  In this episode, I share practical tips for moving through writer's anxiety and breaking the cycle of self-doubt that can keep stories stuck in your head. While this insight can help any writer, it is targeted specifically for those who are new to writing or returning to the craft after some time. Alongside my work as a registered dietitian, I'm also a creative writer rediscovering storytelling after many years. I wrote quite a bit in my previous career in corporate communications, technical writing, and freelance nonfiction, but not creatively. For a long time, the stories I wanted to write stayed locked inside of my head because of severe writer's block, which was fueled by anxiety and self-doubt.  In this episode, I share some simple tips that have helped me begin writing creatively again, even though it has been a slow process. These tips might help you either return to the page, or start your journey as a new writer. Some of this insight can also help people returning to other creative pursuits after a hiatus.

Still, I had my own experiences in struggling with confidence. If you've ever looked like you were winning on the outside but felt discouraged and unworthy on the inside, you've been there too. Today I'll reveal how you can build self-worth that doesn't rely on approval from anybody else (or validation from your achievements). Who you are is already good enough, but the more you learn to validate yourself, the more the world will reflect that back to you. In this episode, you will learn about: How we've been taught to measure our worth the wrong way (and how to fix it). The lie women everywhere have been sold about confidence and what it actually is. How the confidence feedback system reinforces your positive self-belief. Why putting other people on a pedestal is actually a subtle form of self-sabotage. What happens to your self-worth when you seek praise and approval from others. What the neuroscience says about unhooking our need for approval. The myth that you need confidence before you can show up. In this week’s episode, I continue my four-part series on the core pillars of success for women in business. This week I’m focusing on mindset. Mindset isn’t about fixing yourself or forcing positivity. It’s about how you navigate your inner world when things wobble…. because they will! Especially when you’re holding a lot. I explore why mindset work is particularly critical for women, the subtle ways self-doubt shows up at leadership level, and how seemingly harmless thoughts can quietly stall momentum if left unchecked. We talk about the difference between a normal mindset dip and a full-blown spiral, why resistance often appears right before growth, and how resilience is the real skillset founders need to cultivate. I also share practical reflections on rest, boundaries, self-coaching, and why fun and pleasure are often the missing strategic levers in high-performing women’s lives. In this powerful Voices of Celebration episode, Gail shares an honest and deeply personal journey from chronic self-doubt to grounded self-confidence. For years, self-doubt shaped how she showed up in her marriage, her divorce, and her relationship with herself. Fear of conflict, second-guessing her decisions, and a lack of self-trust left her feeling small and uncertain about her future. What makes Gail's story especially compelling is not just what she healed — but how she did it. She speaks candidly about how coaching provided something she hadn't found elsewhere: practical strategies, real-time awareness, and tools that changed her behavior, not just her understanding. Instead of revisiting the past, she learned how to engage differently, interrupt old patterns, and rebuild confidence from the inside out. One of the most powerful moments in this conversation is Gail's realization that the outcomes she feared most never came true. Rather than confirming her worst beliefs about herself, divorce became a turning point — a doorway to clarity, self-trust, and a deeper relationship with herself. This episode is a celebration of growth, courage, and the possibility of real change. Episode Overview In this episode of the Breakfast Leadership Show, Michael sits down with Ryan to explore one of the most persistent and underestimated leadership challenges: negative self-talk. The conversation centers on Ryan's newly released book on self-talk and team leadership, a seven-year project co-authored with Rhett Power and Susie Burke. What began as a belief that leaders could “defeat” negative self-talk evolved into a far more practical and honest conclusion: negative self-talk cannot be eliminated, but it can be managed. This realization shaped both the content of the book and its symbolism, including a cover that reflects the fragile, ever-present nature of our internal dialogue. For leaders navigating pressure, responsibility, and visibility, this episode reframes self-doubt not as a personal failure, but as a leadership skill gap that can be addressed with awareness and structure. Cracking Negative Self-Talk in Leadership Michael and Ryan unpack how internal dialogue directly influences leadership behavior and team culture. Leaders often assume they must project certainty at all times, but unresolved self-doubt frequently leaks into decision-making, communication, and trust. Ryan explains that the “monsters” of self-doubt live in every leader's head. The difference between effective and ineffective leadership is not the absence of these thoughts, but the ability to recognize and manage them before they shape actions and culture. For corporate leaders, founders, and people managers, the book's insights offer a language for understanding what is happening internally and why it matters externally. The Hidden Cost of Negative Self-Talk The discussion highlights how common negative self-talk truly is. Ryan references research suggesting the average person has roughly 6,200 thoughts per day, with the majority skewing negative. Left unchecked, these thoughts create a constant undercurrent of exhaustion, hesitation, and overthinking. Michael connects this to what he sees in burnout-driven leadership environments, where overthinking becomes normalized and decision fatigue spreads across teams. Leaders who struggle internally often unintentionally create cultures of second-guessing and fear. Recognizing negative self-talk is positioned not as self-indulgence, but as a leadership responsibility. Fear, Cognition, and Leadership Performance Fear emerges as a central theme in the conversation. Michael and Ryan explore how fear directly impairs cognitive performance, narrowing thinking, reducing creativity, and slowing decision-making. Ryan introduces the concept of “Edimentals,” a practical framework for addressing fear and negative self-talk. The process focuses on identifying the issue, understanding the internal “worry war,” and applying a three-step method: Catch the fear as it arises Confront it with clarity and logic Change the narrative before it drives behavior Rather than treating fear as weakness, both emphasize the importance of normalizing it. Leaders who acknowledge fear openly create safer, more resilient teams. Authentic Leadership in Times of Crisis Michael shares a personal story from the early days of the pandemic, when he abandoned a traditional reporting-style team meeting in favor of a human-centered conversation. Instead of metrics and updates, the focus shifted to personal challenges, uncertainty, and shared experience. That spontaneous decision became a turning point in building psychological safety and trust. The lesson was clear: authenticity in leadership is not a soft skill. It is a stabilizing force, especially during uncertainty. Leadership, Courage, and Human Connection The episode closes with a broader reflection on leadership and courage. Drawing from insights from Ryan's podcast, The Courageous, the conversation reframes courage as honesty rather than bravado. Both agree that sustainable leadership requires balancing strategy with humanity. Taking care of people is not separate from performance; it is the foundation of it. When leaders feel safe to be real, teams perform better, communicate more clearly, and navigate pressure with greater resilience. Listeners are encouraged to explore Ryan's work and resources for deeper guidance on courage, self-talk, and leadership under pressure. Key Takeaways Negative self-talk cannot be eliminated, but it can be managed Leaders' internal dialogue directly shapes team culture Fear reduces cognitive performance and spreads quickly through teams Normalizing fear builds trust and psychological safety Authentic leadership strengthens performance, especially in crisis Ryan shared his work through Courageous and inviting listeners to learn more at hedamentals.com and RyanBerman.com.

What If Self-Confidence Isn't the Answer and Self-Trust Is What You've Been Missing? Most people think the opposite of self-doubt is confidence. In this conversation, Dr. Shadé Zahrai completely flips that belief on its head. She is a behavioral researcher, bestselling author of Big Trust, and one of the most insightful minds I've ever sat down with when it comes to understanding why high performers still struggle with anxiety, overthinking, and that constant feeling of not being enough. I'll be honest, her work challenged some of the things I've taught for years, and that's exactly why this episode matters. We dive deep into why waiting to feel confident is keeping so many people stuck and why self-trust always has to come first. Dr. Zahrai breaks down the four core attributes that shape how we experience doubt, including acceptance, agency, autonomy, and emotional adaptability. She explains why doubt isn't something to eliminate, but something to rise above by strengthening who you are underneath it. If you've ever felt like an anxious overachiever who keeps pushing but never quite feels settled, you're going to feel seen in this conversation. One of the most powerful parts of this episode is how expectation bias quietly shapes your reality. Dr. Zahrai shares fascinating research that shows how the scars you believe you're carrying can completely change how you experience conversations, relationships, and opportunities, even when those scars are not real. We also talk about why validation from achievement, praise, or external approval is one of the most dangerous traps high performers fall into and why it leaves so many successful people feeling empty. We also get extremely practical. Dr. Zahrai walks through tools that actually work, including how to stop obsessing over outcomes, how to quiet the inner critical voices that sabotage momentum, and why self-forgetting through service is one of the fastest ways to restore confidence. I also share a technique from her book that has already changed how I deal with worry, and if you're someone who struggles with anxiety or rumination, this alone is worth listening to the episode. This conversation is not surface-level motivation. It's real inner work. If you've ever felt stuck between who you are and who you know you're capable of becoming, this episode will give you a framework to rebuild trust in yourself and move forward with clarity and peace. Key Takeaways Why self-trust always comes before confidence and action The four core attributes that protect you from self-doubt How expectation bias shapes your relationships and results Why obsession with outcomes erodes self-belief A simple daily practice to reduce worry and overthinking How to quiet your inner critic without forcing fake positivity Listen now, and start building the kind of trust in yourself that no setback can take away. Max out.

If you've been dating for a while and you're starting to feel tired, discouraged, or quietly wondering why this seems so much harder than it should be, you're not imagining things. Modern dating can wear people down, the endless swiping, first dates that go nowhere, the emotional energy it takes just to stay open and hopeful. Many of the people I work with start to doubt themselves, not because anything is wrong with them, but because the process itself is exhausting. In this episode, I'm joined by Tim Molnar, a dating coach and former sociology professor, to talk about dating burnout recovery and how to approach dating with more clarity, intention, and emotional steadiness. Instead of pushing harder or checking out completely, we explore how to date more thoughtfully,  in ways that protect your mental health and help you stay connected to yourself along the way. We talk about why modern dating mental health struggles are so common, how swipe culture and endless choice can distort decision-making, and why so many good people end up feeling depleted rather than excited. Tim shares a research-backed, intentional dating strategy that helps you make better decisions sooner, reduce emotional drain, and focus your energy where it actually matters. If you've been trying to date without losing yourself — your values, your peace of mind, or your sense of hope — this episode offers a calmer, more grounded way forward. As you listen, you might reflect on this question: What would change if dating felt less like a test of your worth and more like a process you could approach with intention and self-trust? “I'm going to be the best basketball player I can ever be and I'm also going to be the best father that I can ever be.” Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum sits down with Ryan, Channing and Fred for a raw, wide-ranging conversation that goes far beyond the headlines and boxscore. Tatum opens up about battling through injury, the moment he nearly walked away from the game, and the mental toll that comes with carrying expectations at the highest level. Recently returning to the court for rehab and light work, the 6x time NBA All Star and World Champion opens up on how the last year has been the toughest in his life, admitting self-doubt, questioning his will to heal and contemplating his return this season. Winning a title with Celtics etched his name in Boston royalty, although the high expectations still move him to chase the legends who've come before him while his focus remains on getting back to a championship. Jayson was upfront about working through past growing pains with Jaylen Brown, the pressures of being a face of the NBA and the three words Joe Mazzulla whispered to him during the biggest moments of their Championship run. A self-proclaimed mama's boy, he shares a deep understanding of sacrifice, hard work and how growing up with little motivated him being raised by a single mom but candidly he opens up on why he values the relationship with his father differently but still a bond he appreciates. With the anniversary of Kobe Bryant's passing, Jayson Tatum reveals how he was inspired by the icon and modeled his life based on certain experiences and explains why he is completely appalled with anyone questioning Kobe's contributions to the game. He reflects on representing Team USA in 2024 on the Olympic stage, what that experience taught him, his true in-the-moment feelings with Steve Kerr and how it reshaped his perspective as a leader but also as a man. From embracing the weight of Boston's historic legacy to navigating fatherhood while still chasing greatness, Tatum shares how his humble beginnings continue to ground him.
