6-Ways to Celebrate Veteran's Day Write a simple letter, postcard, or email. Consider donating to a veteran-focused charity. How to Fly the Flag Correctly Never drag a U.S. flag on the ground or let it touch the ground.Don't drape it over the hood, top, sides or back of a vehicle.Don't display the U.S. flag above any other flag and keep it at the center when it's surrounded by other flags.Don't display a tattered or torn flag. Flags that are tattered and torn should be disposed of in a respectful way, preferably by burning.Never use the flag as apparel, bedding, or drapery Engage a veteran about their service. Questions to ask a veteran. Here are some questions to get you started:What did you do in the military? How long did you serve? What was your favorite moment in all your time in the service?Did anyone else in your family serve? Why did you go into the service branch you did?Do not ask whether they've killed anyone, and should your veteran be a combat vet who is either unwilling to share or plainly states what they went through, be supportive without being intrusive. Sometimes you don't have to say anything; just listen and give them your full attention. Visit a VA Hospital Don't confuse Veteran Day with Memorial Day. Veterans Day is a time to thank those who are serving or have served and are still with us. Memorial Day is to reflect and remember those who lost their lives in service to their country. Confusing the two or combining the two diminishes the importance of both.

Do you feel like you are trying to manage all the chaos of the world? Are there things in your life and ministry that are challenging and cause you anxiety? Are you searching for answers? Whether we face problems that need to be solved or tensions that need to be managed there are many places where we experience trouble. Marriage Relationships Ministry and church related challenges Our schedule Physical health Emotional health Finances Kids/family There are things that contribute to our lack of peace: Messages from the world Expectations of others Taking on more things to do for God than our relationship with God can handle Busyness Fears Wrestling with challenges and being unsure of what to do Coping by grasping and clinging to other people or circumstances...even a feeling. There is chaos around us and chaos within us. Here is where we can related to David as he expresses this shared experience in Psalm 63: My inner self thirsts for you, my flesh longs and is faint for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. We desperately need peace. Where do we find it in the midst of a world that is filled with chaos and confusion? Where are you looking for peace? Peace I Leave You “I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.” John 14:27 NLT “Peace I leave with you; my [own] I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.] John 14:27 AMP Isaiah 26:3 ”You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the LORD always, for the LORD GOD is the eternal Rock.” The peace we so desperately crave is a peace that we can not get from the world. It comes from no place, no one, no thing, no circumstance. Peace...true, lasting, secure peace comes from God Himself. How do you allow yourself to be agitated or fearful or unsettled? What are you focused on? What are you thinking about? What are you holding onto? What or who are you trusting in? Where do you look for peace? The power comes when you realize that regardless of what is happening around us, even how we feel, the gift of peace is still ours. Because HE is peace...He is security. Today, let's pay attention to where we are fixing our thoughts. What are you ruminating on? What do you keep running through your mind? What do you keep watch on? Mindset Mantras are so important. It's how we keep our thoughts fixed on the Lord. Tip of the Day Write down 3 truths from scripture about God and His promises. Every time you feel unsettled, anxious, worried, agitated, frustrated, or fearful, speak these truths. Say them out loud, repeat them silently in your heart. This is how we keep our thoughts fixed on Him and receive and accept the gift of perfect peace. Father's Day - Write Your Own Story by Bethel Harvest Church
Hey Gen X Ladies, if you are like us, married by 30, you are in deeply in double-digit anniversaries, which means you’ve got your groove down, your routine in motion and your dance choreographed. We strive our entire lives to have a pattern, it’s comfortable and lets you know what to expect most days. Humans crave routines. If humans crave routine, why do we find ourselves secretly feeling bored and uninspired in our relationships? When you do the same dance every day, you don’t think about the steps, so you take for granted all the work that goes into getting to the place of beautiful harmony. This week, we are talking all about our spouses (the good and the ‘meh’) and getting real about how difficult relationships can be and uncovering ways you can rekindle so instead of dancing side by side, you are truly in unison, staring into each other’s eyes and falling back in love.Want to connect with Jackie + Mimi more personally? Join their Facebook Community, Just Gen X - The Resting Mind where women, like you, are keeping it real. Ways to Rekindle Your Mid-Life Marriage Recommit: Know your why for recommitting to your relationship (be honest here).Clean up your side of the street. What are the things that you need to work on? Do you have trust issues or is there an old resentment that keeps coming up for you? Look at that and do your own self-development work here.Don’t play the blame game! Remember you are a grown-up and are responsible for your own thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Remember that you can’t change anyone, you can only do the work to change yourself. Prioritize your relationship: Do one act of kindness per day for your spouse. It can be anything, but every day, you should do one thing that shows you’re putting them first. Set a time to actively connect with one another each day and really listen to one another.Put down the devices and choose to engage in a TV show together. Go on in or out date nights, where you just connect, communicate and ask questions of each other. Ask open-ended questions, not the obligatory ‘how was work today’ but instead, “what was one thing you did today at work that made you feel productive.” And strive to make this connection time a no-complaint time. Be the Safe Place: When spouses are together, they need to feel like there is a safe place to let their guard down, vent and be real. We hold our stuff together for so long, all day, don’t you want your spouse to feel like home is a safe place to be himself?Appreciation a Day: Write down one thing you appreciate about your partner every day. It can be something very small and I guarantee you, on the days you can’t find anything, you will see something magical that was right in front of you! Episode 210 Building an Iron Age Gang MS 119 BCE Today's Topic Let’s make us a very old school gang To further flesh out the world needed for the Marcus and the Jewels of Daivvavaahra heist story I knew I wanted a gang. It would be easier to create a classic thieves guild, the trope is so common in fantasy. However, it does not yet make sense in my world. The idea of guilds are starting to show up, however, they are currently only used in very common professions. Luckily this is not common enough in the city of Baurhdrakkas. I personally wanted a street gang to play the role of secondary antagonist. I like the idea of having another group of criminals interfere with a burglary style heist story. So join Michael and I as we create a gang in the iron age city of Baurhdrakkas. Today's Topic Starting your writing journey Writing is the second most important skill a worldbuilder can know. Curiosity is still the most important skill. Writing is invaluable to a worldbuilder, because you hone your delivery skills and immerse yourself in the world you are creating. It does not matter what medium you share your work. The benefit comes from the exercise you mind receives when writing down the details of the world. You need not ever share your writing to become a writer. However, if you ever want to share the art of your worldbuilding you need to become a writer. Please Subscribe, Rate and Review us on iTunes For complete Fantasy Worldbuilding, show notes go to Gardul.com The only two things that a writer need to do? You only need to do two things to become a writer. Reading and Writing. You need to spend time reading great works. Not as a fan, but you are looking to find how the writer accomplishes. You are just looking for the brushstrokes used by authors to deliver their stories. I think Jeff Goins summed it up really well in his article, “Why Writers Need to Read if They Want to Be Good”. Don’t read to accomplish anything. Study language. Read what others are reading. Remember, your reading as a writer is not about genre. Personally, I avoid reading new fantasy novels at this point when I am writing. I am looking for writers of other genres to inspire me with different ways to deliver words on the page. The next step If you need to improve your reading comprehension or writing skills, even after you start practicing those skills. Do not give up. Look for others to help you. Writing circles Beta read for others Look for online courses from authors you respect Look for more academic help through classes from colleges or through places like Great Courses Plus. Author vs writer? Now, I do not believe writers have to be published authors. However, if want to share your content online in any form. You need to add more writing to your routine. You might want to write novels, short stories, or RPG adventures; or you might want to simply make videos, share art, or do a podcast. All of these types of creatives should write. However, if you are in the first group. Those people who will deliver their art through the written word. You need to start reading and writing every day. For the rest of you, try do spend some time every week. The only risk to you is exercising your mind. Today's Topic – Preventing your fantasy world from blowing up I am not going to talk about preventing errors in stories or fatal world building flaws that will lose you, readers. I am talking building a story towards a world apocalypse, but then adverting it. It is a popular story type. It creates a lot of the same tension as destroying the world. However, you are not left with a post-apocalyptic world. Now you might have guessed from episode 86, 87, and 88. Michael and I love fictional worlds blowing up and consuming post-apocalyptic fiction. You might have even cried a bit if you performed the Worldbuilder task for those episodes and destroyed your world, to that we say, “Thanks!” However, in today's episode. We will be talking about why it might be a useful story to create. People do seem to love them. They are thrilling. And it might be possible to make them without turning the story into a horrible disaster trope. However, as a show, we would like to encourage you to consider really just blowing the hell out of it. It really is quite fun and therapeutic. Enjoy the episode and comment below to tell us what we missed. Podcast Show Flow Is your story about the apocalypse the prevention of said event? Today's Topic - A system for tracking the Technology Level in a Fantasy world. As I have evolved as a Worldbuilder. I have always struggled with how to track technology level. The GURPS tech level system. It is very simple and might work for many people. However, it never quite worked for me in my fantasy setting. I believe that the technology of an area can grow up at different rates than they do on earth. We have seen evidence of this on earth. So, I spent way too much time modifying it to cover basic spheres of technology. I have identified nine basic spheres of technology. The basic area’s I believe cover all the basics of areas of technology what are used in what we call civilizations. I also add magic to track its progression. I track magic because I believe that the inclusion of magic can change the rate at which technologies grow. Now, take a minute and join Michael and me as we look at the Simple, Succinct Technology Level Method. Enjoy the episode and comment below to tell us what we missed.
