To live is Christ.Bible reference: Philippians 1:12-26.Series: Philippians. In this episode, we discover Paul's secret to experiencing joy in all circumstances, even in the midst of heartache. And the secrete comes down to what you are living for, what is the most important thing in your life. For Paul, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Pastor John Ryan Cantu brings this week's message, “To Die Is Gain." Key Verse: John 12:20-34 ESV “Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. And Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. “Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour'? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.” The crowd that stood there and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.” Jesus answered, “This voice has come for your sake, not mine. Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die. So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”” Sermon Topics: Patience, Doubt, Faith
Paul said: "to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain... having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better." We discuss what happens when we die? Do we stay conscious? As Philippi was a Colony of Rome, so Paul reminded the Church at Philippi, that they were a colony of Heaven on earth, and that therefore they needed to conduct themselves as citizens of Heaven. This means that the Church must not compromise with the ways and standards of the world, and that we must stand together united in the Holy Spirit, and strive together to defend and promote the faith of the Gospel. When attacked, we are to stand firm and be confident in our proclamation of Christ. Our lack of fear in the face of persecution is a sign to unbelievers that God is with us, and that they are on the wrong side. We also discuss the 3 kinds and levels of suffering. It is an honour to suffer for Christ, and God will always grant us the grace to stand strong in the face of persecution.

Lord's Day 16, Q.42. To Die is Gain!Q42. “Since, then, Christ died for us, why must we also die?” The answer we must give is, “Our death is not a satisfaction for our sin, but only a dying to sin and an entering into eternal life.”Our instructor wants to know why, if Christ has taken our death, Christians themselves must also physically die. It's a logical and completely fair question. After all, Jesus himself told us in: John 11:25-26 … he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.Paul gives us another angle on this in Philippians, where he gives the Christian's death a PURPOSE all of its own. He tells us that TO DIE IS GAIN! How can this be? In this double length episode, we explore the issue.Contains Psalm 23 and Psalm 17, from 'Sing Psalms'Psalm 17:8 & 15.8 In shadow of your wings hide me in times of strife; And as the apple of your eye preserve and guard my life.15 But I in righteousness your face will surely see; And with your likeness, when I wake, I satisfied will be.Find the NOTES here.Podcast Music.Psalm extracts- Thanks to Conor Quigley, www.ThePsalmsSung.OrgPodcast Music on license from www.NeoSounds.comSRP Theme, “In Another Time” by Roland Rudzitis Hosted on Acast. To Live Is Christ, To Die Is Gain
Paul’s letter to the church at Philippi is full of love and instruction for the Lord’s church. He rejoices that the gospel is moving forward even while he is in prison, and encourages the church endure suffering, the be united in love, to serve one another self-sacrificially, looking to the King of Kings humbled Himself even to death on a cross. Our boast is no longer in the flesh, but in the cross of Christ. Knowing that the Lord is near, we should be anxious for nothing, opting instead to pray and to consider the goodness of God. ::: Christian Standard Bible translation.
