Preaching and teaching from the pulpit of Riverview Baptist Church in Seymour Wisconsin
Christ's High Priestly Prayer brings us back to what matters most. Jesus Christ demonstrated His love for us by going to the cross to pay our sin debt. Because of what God has done for us, we ought to do with our lives what He desires. Out of our relationship and fellowship with Him, we can move in the direction that God gives us. If your name is written in heaven, then everything you do as a Christian ought to flow from that reality.
This is message 15 in The Power of God's Name Psalm 34:1-22 Psalm 34 is David's song of praise birthed from desperation and deliverance. In it, he calls God's people to exalt the Lord's name at all times—because of His faithfulness, His provision, His peace, and His nearness in our brokenness. David's testimony is not theoretical; it flows from personal rescue and real trust. Whether in caves or triumphs, the call remains: lift high the name of the Lord, for He alone is worthy, and He never forsakes His own. Christ is praying that His followers would be one with God the Father, one with God the Son, one with God the Holy Spirit, and one with each other. When He prays for those who will also believe because of the word the disciples will give, He is praying for His future followers. All believers in every century have in common the same Saviour, the same Word, the same Holy Spirit, and the same glory.
This is message 49 in the Isaiah series. Isaiah 51:1-52:10 God calls His people to wake up, remember His promises, and trust His power to save. Though they were weary and broken under judgment, He reminds them of His past faithfulness and assures them of present deliverance. He is still their Redeemer, still their strength, and still working out His plan. His people are not forsaken—they are called to rise, rejoice, and prepare for His coming salvation. This is message 48 in the Isaiah series. Isaiah 50:1-11 The obedient Servant, foretold in Isaiah, speaks with wisdom and purpose even in suffering. Though rejected and beaten, He listens to the Father, speaks comfort to the weary, and fulfills His mission with unwavering trust. His words from the cross—spoken in agony—were not cries of defeat but declarations of grace, fulfillment, and victory. In Him, we see the “tongue of the learned,” used perfectly to reveal God's heart, fulfill prophecy, and bring salvation to the world. This is message 47 in the Isaiah series. Isaiah 49:1-26 The Servant of the Lord is chosen before birth, hidden for a time, and refined by God to fulfill a far-reaching mission. Though His labor appears in vain, He trusts the Father's purpose and timing. God promises restoration, victory, and glory through the One who will bring salvation not only to Israel but to the ends of the earth. Like a polished shaft made ready for its target, the Servant is prepared in secret and released in strength. His example teaches that those who yield to God's shaping hand will be used in His perfect time for His perfect purpose. Sanctification and Christian service cannot be separated. God sanctifies us through His Son, through His Word, and through His Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ appeared on Calvary for our justification, He is now in heaven praying for our sanctification, and He will appear in the clouds for our glorification. As we are sanctified, we will develop the mind of Christ, we will become more like our Saviour, and we will faithfully give the Good News of Jesus Christ to others!
This is message 46 in the Isaiah series. Isaiah 48:1-22 The Lord who teaches His people to profit calls them to trust His Word, follow His ways, and experience the peace and blessing He has prepared. Though Israel had been stubborn and slow to listen, God remained faithful-- declaring the future, guiding them with purpose, and offering redemption. His call to leave Babylon was not just about geography; it was a call to obedience rooted in His proven care and sustained by His unfailing provision. This is message 14 in The Power of God's Name Psalm 20:1-9 This psalm reminds believers that victory in life's battles doesn't come from strength, strategy, or resources-- but from remembering the name of the Lord our God. The people stand with confidence before the battle ever began, not in themselves but in the God who defends, provides, heals, and leads. To trust His name is to trust His character. Every name He gives in Scripture reveals who He is and what He has promised. When believers call on His name in prayer and stand firm in His name in trials, they are declaring their faith in the One who always wins. This is message 45 in the Isaiah series. Isaiah 46:1- 47:15 Babylon believed she was untouchable--proud in her idol secure in her sorceries, and careless in her pleasures-- but the Lord of Hosts had already declared her fall. These chapters display the contrast between the lifeless god Babylon verses the trusted and the living God who carried His people and directed history with perfect precision. Through Cyrus, a pagan king chosen long before his birth, God fulfilled His word and proved that no power--earthly or spiritual--can stand against Him. The Lord of Hosts reign supreme, not only judging the proud but rescuing the humble who trust in Him. This is message 44 in the Isaiah series. Isaiah 45:20-25 The name El Tsaddik reveals that God is not only just in action but is justice itself. He knows every detail of the future, rules over all nations, and extends an invitation of salvation to the whole earth. Though His justice demands that sin be judged, His mercy provided the payment through Christ. Every knee will bow before Him—not only because of His power, but because His justice is righteous and His salvation is sure. This is message 43 in the Isaiah series. Isaiah 44:26-45:19 God rules over kings, kingdoms, and every corner of human history, using even unbelievers like Cyrus to fulfill His will and bless His people. The promise of “treasures of darkness” reminds us that life's hardest moments often hold the richest blessings—not in ease or escape, but in how they draw us closer to Christ. The greatest way to understand and know the Lord Jesus is to study His prayer life. In John 17:15-16, Christ is praying for those who are in the strength of life who get discouraged about a matter, and think, "I want out of here. I know I will go to heaven and be with the Lord. I would just like to go on." Our Lord Jesus would not pray for that because we need laborers for the Lord's work. He is praying for God the Father to keep us from the evil so that we can minister to others around us.
This is message 42 in the Isaiah series. Isaiah 44:1-25 The Lord declares Himself as thy Redeemer--personal, powerful, and faithful. He formed His people, called them His own, and promises to pour out His spirit upon the,. In contrast to the lifeless idols crafted by human hands, God alone is eternal, sovereign, and able to declare the future. He blots out sin like a vanishing cloud and invites His people to return to him, not in fear, but in trust and praise. This is message 12 in The Power of God's Name Hebrews 6:10; 2 Timothy 1:5 God never forgets the labor of love done in His name. Lois and Eunice serve as a powerful example-- Two women whose sincere, consistent faith helped shape Timothy's life and ministry. Their investment wasn't flashy or public, but it was faithful. They taught him the Scriptures, lived out what they believed, and quietly built a legacy that would bear fruit for generations. Their love toward His name was shown not in grand acts, but in steady- God-centered living, and God remembered every moment of it. The Christian life is not a little better than the world's way; it is completely different. If you are truly obedient to the Word of God, you will go against the grain of the world. Each of us have our faith personally challenged. This prayer challenges us to keep doing the right thing. May God enable us to be faithful witnesses in this Christ-rejecting world.
This is message 13 in The Power of God's Name Psalm 96:1-13 Psalm 96 calls all people and all creation to give glory to the name of the Lord—not only for what He has done, but for who He is. From the opening call to sing a new song, to the closing anticipation of His coming reign, the psalm unfolds as a joyful declaration that God alone is worthy of honor, praise, and reverence. His name is to be lifted high through worship, through testimony, through holiness, and through hope in His righteous rule. This is message 41 in the Isaiah series. Isaiah 43:1-28 God reminds His people that they belong to Him-- not by merit but by His choosing, His power, and His grace. He had called them by name, redeemed them through mighty acts, and formed them for His glory. Yet even after all HIs faithfulness, they had grown cold, offering worship without heart and turning from the relationship they were meant to cherish. Still, God speaks with tenderness, promising protection, restoration, and renewal. This is message 11 in The Power of God's Name 1 Samuel 17:40-58 David's encounter with Goliath reveals what it means to come in the name of the Lord. He did not rely on his own strength but stood as God's servant, trusting in God's authority and power. Facing intimidating circumstances, David boldly declared God's name, confident that the battle belonged to the Lord. His victory was not for personal glory but to proclaim that God alone saves. This principle remains true today—believers are called to face every challenge not in their own power, but under God's authority, trusting fully in His name to bring the victory. The moment you come to trust Christ as your Saviour; you are as safe in Him as you would be if you were already standing in the presence of God in heaven. Judas Iscariot kissed the door to heaven yet went to hell because he never trusted Christ for his soul's salvation. Ask the Holy Spirit to prove to you that you are one of God's children and heaven is your home. Heaven or hell rest upon whether or not we truly know the Lord Jesus.
This is message 35 in the Isaiah series. Isaiah 36:1-37:38 Jehovah Sabaoth, the Lord of Hosts, stands as the defender of His people when they trust fully in Him. When the enemy mocks God's name and threatens His people with overwhelming strength, He does not remain silent. Hezekiah laid the blasphemous threats before the Lord, not in panic, but in faith, and the Lord answered with power. Without a sword drawn by Judah, the armies of Assyria fell in a single night. This is message 8 in The Power of God's Name John 14:13-16, 15:16, 16:23-26 To ask in Jesus' name, as taught in John 14-16, is not a formula for getting what one wants, but a call to pray in alignment with Christ's will and authority. Jesus prepared His disciples to approach the Father with confidence, assuring them that their prayers would be heard and answered when offered in His name. Asking in Jesus' name means seeking God's glory, bearing spiritual fruit, and experiencing the joy of a relationship with the Father. The blessings God has for us are not all stored up in heaven. God wants us to know Him while we are here on this earth. Only one can declare unto us all that we need to know about the only true God, and that one is the Lord Jesus Christ, God's only begotten So. We have been given by God the Father to God the Son. This is message 7 in Gathered in His Name. Matthew 18:15-20 When Jesus said, "Where two or three are gathered together in my name," He was not speaking of a general prayer meeting, but of the church acting under His authority in matters of discipline. Gathered in His name means carrying out His will with the weight of His presence and power behind us. Both Matthew 18 and 1 Corinthians 5 teach that the church is entrusted with Christ's authority to make binding decisions in judgment, always seeking repentance, restoration, and the purity of the body. Jesus Christ alone has the power and authority to give us life eternal. It cost the death and suffering of Christ to pay our sin debt.
