Jim Grant and I crossed paths during his hosting of Comedy Club events when I moved from Hampshire to Sussex in the turn of the millennium. Jim then offered me some open mic spots where I tried out some new material and that was my first experience of working comedy club audiences. I loved it, it felt like a whole new world to me and since then I have enjoyed some great Comedy Club style crowds from Pubs to London's Southbank at the Udderbelly.Jim knows his Comedy venues, audiences and which fellow comedians are right for that setting. In todays chat he talks in detail about why an audience may be difficult on certain nights. Jim has always fascinated me, his confidence comes from years of hosting these nights, he's well connected and well respected. I hope you enjoy Eyes & Teeth the 77th Episode with Jim Grant

Welcome to HOOVERING, the podcast about eating. Host, Jessica Fostekew (Guilty Feminist, Motherland) has a frank conversation with an interesting person about gobbling; guzzling; nibbling; scoffing; devouring and wolfing all up… or if you will, hoovering. In this episode, I’m joined by comedian Carl Donnelly whose at the Udderbelly on June 12th. We go ‘full nerd’ on vegan eating. We delve into the horror of hot melon soup and we open the door on the absolutely vital but deadly act act of licking something to find out what it is. What does Carl miss eating from the animal-product-world, if anything? You will NEVER guess. __ Recipes Carl talks us really carefully through how he made his seitan but here’s a recipe that I intend to try. And here’s one for the courgette chocolate (vegan) cupcakes which I swear were lighter and more cakey last time I made them so who knows. Just don’t rush them. __ Honorable mentions I can’t wait to check out The Gate restaurants which it looks like there’s a few of now. The Chinese restaurant I took Mikey to for that mouth-blowing birthday a few years back was called A Wong and here’s what I wrote about it after we went. And the super swanky place in Turin that Carl went to was Chiodi Latini New Food. BBQ seitan loaf and slaw Double Cupped Chocolate and Courgette Cake See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Marisa Carnesky speaks about her performance at Udderbelly. Carnesky first gained attention with performance collective Duckie's Olivier award-winning cabaret show. Her current show, Dr Carnesky's Incredible Bleeding Woman, approaches the theme of menstruation from new angles: reinventing rituals, with performances by amazingly skilled stars of the UK’s alt cabaret scene.Follow us on Twitter @VLWRadio, Instagram VLWRadio and on Facebook.com/VeryLooseWomen. On this week's show, Spindles and Ady have to cope on their own as Brendan is a poorly thing, but they are joined by the incredibly wonderful, ukulele wielding, nerd powered songstress Helen Arney. There is talk of giant inflatable cows being transported via zeppelin, nerdy puns, a rather unique take on the 5 Films question and much more. You can find out more about Helen at her website http://helenarney.com/ follow her on twitter https://twitter.com/HelenArney and check out the Festival of the Spoken Nerd http://festivalofthespokennerd.com/ As always you can find us on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/nerdvworld Or follow us on twitter: Brendan: http://www.twitter.com/NerdVsWorld Ady: http://www.twitter.com/kaosady Spindles: http://www.twitter.com/spindlyone Until next time, Take care and be excellent to each other.
Cloggs, Cults and Cats! It’s the last show in the series and today we were joined by friends and favourites from the festival. We had Janet Ellis, Paul Foot, Benny Boot, Dana Alexander, Debra Francis White and Lach! Love you bye!
Sparky chat, straight talking, and jokes galore today, with Hardeep Singh Kohli, Henning Wehn, Craig Campbell, Damian Crow, and Chris Henry.
Today we had Fosters award nominee Claudia O’Doherty, the omnipresent Rob Beckett, Gavin Mitchell of Still Game fame, the wonderfully wonky Paul Foot, the ‘Fat Whore’ that is Kristine Levine, Matthew Kelly’s favourite sketch group Foil Arms & Hog and a magic dragon called Piff.
The Udderbelly is a big, blue, up-side-down cow that tours the country attending various festivals including our very own Brighton Fringe Festival. I had the pleasure of sitting in the Udderbelly bar (actually a tent) and chatting with two comedy sketch teams who were playing there, Greedy (Louie Bayliss, Felicity Wren, Rachel Egan, Alan Freestone and James Wren) and The Pros from Dover (Neil Cole, Phil Whelans and Richard Glover). Learn all about bowel gas problems, accidents that only rich people can have and what it’s like to be kissed on the head by Jodie Kidd, what Rick Mayall is really like and how to succeed in cow tipping.
