Today Elaine chats with Isley Lynn and Libby Rodliffe the co-writers and performer of Jobsworth. We chat the inspiration for the show, shame around debt and our lack of honestly when it comes to finical maters, the comedy of bad bosses and we have a great laugh. Jobsworth - Pleasence Courtyard - Upstairs Dates: 31st July - 26th AUGUST (not 14th) @ 1.45 pm Tickets available here: https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/jobsworth Jobsworth Bea's secretly working three full-time jobs. All at the same time. And she's still financially f*cked. Between looking after luxury flats and dogsitting the world's ugliest pooch, she's neck-deep in employers and it's only a matter of time until someone finds out she's breaking all her contracts. Armed with nothing but her smarmiest boss' dirty secret, can Bea get herself out of the red and into the black (and into the fit intern's bed)? Or will the plates she's been spinning come crashing down around her and her dysfunctional family? A riotous comedy about snakes and surviving capitalism. [TW//OCD, POCD, Obsessions, Compulsions] Actor Ria Fay's anxiety, panic, fear, intrusive thoughts and compulsions were out of control. The pandemic proved to be a challenging period for the world, but it was especially harrowing for those dealing with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Ria has suffered OCD symptoms since aged 5 and today she provides a poignant and powerful account of what it's like to live with untreated OCD, recounting how her condition reached it's lowest point during the pandemic, posing a significant threat to her acting career. However, this low point became the catalyst for Ria's remarkable recovery. With the support of her loved ones, she managed to conquer her demons. Through this ordeal, Ria learned that even in the darkest moments, you can discover inner strength and freedom and she shares it all to help anyone struggling with OCD, anxiety, worry and intrusive thoughts. Approximately 1-2% of the population in the UK, or around three-quarters of a million people, are affected by OCD, although the actual numbers could be higher due to many keeping their condition hidden. More on Ria - Ria is Co-Artistic Director of Concept Theatre graduating from East 15 Acting School. She is about to appear in The Polar Express in Edinburgh this Christmas and this summer produced the theatre show SONS which sold out at both Vault Festival and Brighton Fringe and has since been nominated for an OffFest award. She has worked with OCD Action & performed her show "I'm Just a Little Bit OCD". The show later toured London in 2022 to Southwark Playhouse, Chickenshed and The Cockpit with support from Arts Council England and The National Lottery Community Fund. In this episode Lauren and Rina discuss neurodiversity and how we want the world to evolve, with the team behind the play ‘Just be Normal' - Connor Pearce and sister's Emma and Sophie Jackson. The conversation includes a beautiful monologue performance from the play by Sophie, as well as each guest sharing their own personal experiences and their hopes and wishes for a more accepting and accessible world. “Just Be Normal” explores the topics of Autism and neurodiversity. Sophie wrote the play and stars in it alongside her sister Emma. It is inspired by their own lives and personal stories. Written off as the problem child, the play explores how Emma (the older of the two sisters) seeks to understand her Autism better as she comes to terms with the fact that even those closest to her are poorly equipped to help her on her journey. Meanwhile Sophie secretly struggles with her own unidentified neuro-divergence, which is reflective of Sophie's quite recent real-life discovery that she's been living with OCD. Connor's production company Akimbo is behind the play, and as its director he brings his own lived experience with OCD and neurodiversity. He is passionate about making more inclusive and accessible creative spaces, about making inclusion and diversity at the centre of such productions rather than a tick box after thought. Content Warnings DiagnosisMental health challenges VaginismusGuest BiographiesEmma is a part-time actor and full-time Mum to 1-year-old Nala. Host Benny Shakes invites the audience to help join in the games, while the panellists battle it out to come up trumps, in a show where disadvantage is an advantage! ★★★★★  “Lots of fun” ★★★★  “Cleverly thought out and engagingly interactive.” ★★★★★  “Extremely inclusive” Blue Badge Bunch is an interactive, disabled led game show for all ages funded by Arts Council England. Created by comedian Benny Shakes and produced by Ingenious Fools, the project has been running for three years, and in that time has toured the UK twice, had a successful run at the Pleasance Courtyard at the Edinburgh Fringe, appeared at Vault Festival and many other prestigious theatres and festivals across the UK, as well as at schools and community groups, receiving critical acclaim for its disabled representation, educational value and innovative, fun games. The format is a game show, where each game represents a different disability – drawing with your feet, making lunch one handed while being prodded, sensory overload while following instructions or guessing the symbol sentences from an AAC device. Creator Benny Shakes has been performing comedy since 2019. After making a splash on the comedy scene, the pandemic hit, and Benny was forced to take his ideas online. Benny created a game show where comedians sent in videos of themselves taking part in challenges that highlighted disability. Once Benny was allowed to perform in person again, he took the show to Bradford Fringe and never looked back. Benny found through his life that people would show him pity, not speak directly to him, assume that he was intoxicated, or unable to communicate. The driving force behind the show is to show people the societal and physical challenges disabled people live with every day, to inspire celebration of disability and educate children and adults. This issue of disability is very badly neglected in most discussions around diversity, and as a result voices of disabled people themselves are almost absent. Benny continues to research and present insight into disabled people's experiences and recommendations for the future and is determined that as Blue Badge Bunch grows it will provide many more professional and public opportunities for disabled people. The show and workshops were initially supported by New Art Exchange's European Regional Development Fund and has subsequently gained two rounds of Arts Council Funding for development and touring and more recently has been supported by Attenborough Arts Centre. The show was shortlisted for the Neurodiverse Representation Award at the Edinburgh Fringe 2022, where it received fantastic reviews. The team are heading back to Edinburgh in 2023 for a full run at the Pleasance Courtyard. Ahead of the opening of Breeding at the King's Head Theatre, Barry McStay sat down to talk about his latest play and why he felt compelled to tell Eoin and Zeb's story. He opened up about the experience of working at the King's Head following his earlier play Verspertillio being part of the theatre's Plays on Film season in 2021. Forming part of Tom Ratcliffe's guest Queer Interrogation season at the King's Head Theatre, Breeding is a story about a gay couple looking into adoption and the real life challenges that come with this. As an openly gay man himself, Barry tells us about his own personal experiences coming to London from Ireland and developing work as both an actor and a writer that authentically reflected the realities of being in the LGBTQ+ community. In this interview, he also praises the King's Head for continuing to bravely tell unconventional stories that provide a platform for queer writers and actors that powerfully move audiences.Since starting his career, Barry McStay has performed on both stage and screen with his plays staged at the VAULT Festival, Dublin Fringe Festival and Galway International Festival. Breeding will mark the first time Barry has also performed in his own play but he insists the show is not autobiographical. Instead, he states that the show is his way of reclaiming a narrative that has been traditionally told from the view of heterosexual couples. A proud advocate for gay rights, stories and representation, audiences should expect to be wowed by his latest work which promises to challenge and entertain everyone who buys a ticket.Breeding runs at King's Head Theatre from 19 April - 7 May with tickets available now!

From winning a spot at the prestigious Vault Festival in 2018 with my poem "You've Lost That Loving Feeling and It's Only Been Two Weeks," to being featured on various discussion panels, I've made a name for myself in the spoken word community. In 2019, I was commissioned to write a piece for International Women's Week, titled "Silver Foxes." The piece highlighted the plight of female actors being pushed out of the acting industry at 45+. It was published by The Conversation in an article titled "Invisible Lives: Where are all the older women in film and TV?" and featured across social media. My poem "The Menopause Poem" has also been featured heavily on various platforms, including radio, and is regularly requested at conferences and menopausal events. In 2022, I took my show "Woman on Mute" to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The show explored the various stages of a woman's life and featured spoken word pieces fused with music, movement, and comedy. After a successful run, the show is now being developed for radio." What people have said about Lisa: "Critics have praised my work, with Write Angel calling it "an exploration of how it feels to be invisible and silenced as a woman. Powerful words delivered with killer conviction - a must-see!!" Henry Normal said "Lisa Moore is honest, accessible, and engaging. This week's guest is Stefania Licari, actor, comedian, producer and medical doctor. She attended drama school, became a doctor working in anaesthetics and intensive care, and went to clowning school in Paris. We get into all of this and how empathy towards her colleagues, patients and the audience really tie it all together.During the pandemic, Stefania has a unique experience both working in medicine and as an actor doing online performances. She got through it with a mindset shift that she shares which would be useful for anyone at any time, even outside lockdowns. We start with her reflections on her first Edinburgh Fringe in 2022. She is currently revamping her one-woman show, Medica, and taking it to the Vault Festival in London. We chat about:Empathy and impact on patientsEmpathy as it occurs in actingHer love of the audiencePursuing both a medical career and a theatre oneHaving the right people around at the right timePerforming as an actor and a comicThe impact of Philippe GaulierNote from Rabiah (Host): You'll hear that I almost saw Stefania's show at Edinburgh. It was a wonderful and stressful time when I was at Fringe for a week. I loved the flying I did and helping a friend and loved seeing shows. I also performed more than I expected to and missed shows I wanted to see. I still have one person I have meant to write to since August to apologise! Stefania and I became online friends via Twitter and Instagram and I have been thrilled to see how her show has progressed. I'll be there to see the updated version in February and can't wait. One of the best parts of being involved in entertainment is being able to celebrate the talents of others while also being assured enough in yourself to do so. London's VAULT Festival was founded in 2012 by Andy George and Mat Burtcher in the tunnels under Waterloo Station. The lockdown due to the COVID pandemic came during the 2020 festival and resulted in the cancellation of the 2021 and 2022 festivals, but the programme has now been announced for a big return in January 2023. BTG Editor David Chadderton spoke to VAULT's Director and co-founder Andy George about the principles and criteria for the festival programme, it's humble beginnings ten years ago, survival over three years of COVID and highlights of the 2023 event, plus he comes up with an interesting metaphor for creating theatre taken from Wallace and Gromit. VAULT Festival 2023 takes place in various venues around Waterloo from 24 January to 19 March featuring more than 500 theatre, comedy, cabaret and late-night shows.
