Episode 187 - Bobby Elliott Bobby Elliott is an iconic English rock drummer best known as the powerhouse driving force behind the classic pop/rock band The Hollies. Widely considered one of the finest and most influential drummers of the British Invasion era, he has remained a continuous member of the band since joining them in 1963. * Jazz Beginnings: Growing up in Burnley, Lancashire, Elliott discovered jazz at a young age. He initially emulated big-band legends like Gene Krupa and Chico Hamilton by practicing on makeshift biscuit tins and Cadbury's chocolate boxes with paintbrush handles. * Signature Sound: Renowned for his exceptional timing, dynamic tom-tom rolls, and precise fills, his drumming style provided a fiercely energetic yet sophisticated foundation for The Hollies' famous three-part vocal harmonies. * Peer Recognition: He famously won the 1965 Beat Instrumental Drummer Poll—relegating Keith Moon to third place. Renowned players like Cozy Powell, Ian Paice, and Max Weinberg have cited him as a major influence. * Hit Machine: Alongside guitarist Tony Hicks, Elliott anchored the band through decades of massive hits, including "Bus Stop", "Just One Look", "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother", "Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress)", and "The Air That I Breathe". * Wings Invitation: In 1973, Paul McCartney personally invited Elliott to join his band, Wings. Elliott turned the offer down because his loyalty and "heart" belonged entirely to The Hollies. * Hall of Fame: He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. However, he and Hicks skipped the ceremony in New York because they refused to cancel a pre-booked gig at the London Palladium. * In late 2020, Elliott published his official autobiography, titled It Ain't Heavy, It's My Story, which offers a firsthand look into his six decades on the road and inside iconic studios like Abbey Road Huge thanks to Bobby for taking the time to chat with me about his incredible career, what a truly wonderful gentleman. Equally huge thanks to another legend of the British drumming scene and a good friend of the podcast Bob Henrit for introducing Bobby to me.

Why a Dying Pastor Calls These His Best YearsTold he had two to three months to live in January, Allan Finnegan says these are the best years of his life — and means it.About this episodeAllan Finnegan is a Baptist minister from Liverpool, a stand-up comedian, and the author of I Didn't Ask For Any Of This — Church, Comedy and Cancer (Broad Place Publishing, 2026). Guess what… The Chris Moyles Show podcast is back - and somehow, it's even sillier than ever! Palladium fever is VERY much in the air, we receive a letter from THE Alison of The Beautiful South (yes, who knew she was a Chris Moyles Show listener), and the long-awaited, much-discussed, slightly over-hyped WhatsApp Jingle FINALLY makes its grand debut. Dreams really do come true!Comedy legend and friend of the show, John Bishop joins the gang to chat about his brand-new feature film Is This Thing On? , which includes celebrity royalty... Bradley Cooper's dogs! And Chris obviously brings out his un-believable John Bishop impression (but we can't say John was best pleased about that…)Andi Peters joined us to play a quick game of 'Guess Where I Am In The World', but really, it was just an excuse to show off his sunny location and make us (and the listeners) painfully jealous. At least we've got our brand new Whatsapp jingle though!Meanwhile, we can see our pals over at Capital again, which naturally results in Chris snooping around the renovations and trying to challenge them to a football match. Reverse Words makes a triumphant return, and Chris Moyles Show history is made with what might be the longest feature ever from our new Executive Producer Aaron, he came up with a kazoo based game for us to play! And obviously, that's not it… Hott Property UpdateChris and Dom's friendship with Nothing But ThievesMore Stupid Amnesty!Enjoy! The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X!Weekdays 6:30am - 10am

In this episode of the XS Noize Podcast, Mark Millar is joined by Roland Gift — the iconic voice of Fine Young Cannibals and one of the most instantly recognisable singers in British music. With era-defining hits like "She Drives Me Crazy," "Good Thing," "Johnny Come Home," and their electrifying version of "Ever Fallen In Love," Fine Young Cannibals became global chart-toppers — selling over five million records and earning two BRIT Awards, an Ivor Novello, and three Grammy nominations. Their sharp, soulful sound continues to influence generations. Roland returns with two major releases — FYC40, a definitive 40-year anthology, and his brand-new festive single "Everybody Knows It's Christmas", showcasing that unmistakable voice in glorious form. Roland looks back on the band's beginnings, the explosive success of The Raw & The Cooked, and how his Otis Redding-inspired delivery fused with David Steele and Andy Cox's songwriting to create something completely unique. He also reflects on Fine Young Cannibals' continued cultural impact — including "She Drives Me Crazy" becoming the musical centrepiece of the 2025 Chanel campaign starring Dua Lipa and Jennie from BLACKPINK. We also talk about Roland's return to performing — touring with Jools Holland, shining at the 2022 Hootenanny, and his triumphant 40 Years of Songs tour, which launched with a sold-out London Palladium show. And we dive into "Everybody Knows It's Christmas" — a glam-rock, wall-of-sound celebration co-written with Ben Barson, full of warmth, nostalgia, and classic Roland soul. "Wherever you are I hope this song brings a bit of warmth, a smile, and maybe a bit of that Christmas magic your way." – Roland Gift Listen to Roland Gift discuss 40 years of Fine Young Cannibals, the making of FYC40, and the joy behind his new Christmas single — exclusively on the XS Noize Podcast. She then immediately transferred to Broadway and played Elphaba at the Gershwin Theatre for 6 months, where she won the Broadway.com Audience Award for Favourite Female Breakthrough Performance. Her many other leading role credits include Nancy in Oliver! at Drury lane, Eliza Doolittle My Fair Lady, Ellen in Miss Saigon, Fantine in Les Miserables and Grizabella in Cats at the London Palladium.
