Greg Jenner is joined in 20th-century New York by Dr Hannah Thuraisingam Robbins and comedian Desiree Burch to learn about the history of Broadway. Most of us are familiar with at least one Broadway musical, from classics like My Fair Lady and the Sound of Music to new favourites Hamilton and Wicked. But whether or not you know your Rodgers & Hammerstein from your Lloyd Webber, the history of Broadway is perhaps more of a mystery. This episode explores all aspects of musical theatre, from its origins in the early years of the 20th century, to the ‘Golden Age' in the 50s and the rise of the megamusical in the 80s. Along the way, Greg and his guests learn about the racial and class dynamics of Broadway, uncover musical flops and triumphs, and find out exactly what ‘cheating out' is.This is a radio edit of the original podcast episode. What a year! While Rishi Sunak held true to his January commitment to hold the election in the second half of the year - the spectacle that followed couldn't have been predicted as 2024 dawned. Nish and Coco are joined by Sky News' political correspondent Liz Bates and comedian Desiree Burch to chew over the gristle of the year that was. From racist Tory donors, to milkshaked MPs, creative political stunts and Rishi Sunak's D-Day disaster - the first half of the year had plenty to keep us entertained. But once Labour took power - optimism quickly turned to gloom. The seven week garm-drama saga took the sheen off Keir Starmer's newly minted cabinet, while the endless don't-call-it-austerity chat has jaded people across the country. As 2024 draws to a close - there's still plenty to laugh about - including the best of the worst political pop songs of the year. As the twenty minute live set draws closer, another comedian takes a look at Hask's previous eight minutes. This time, it's former dominatrix and American comic Desiree Burch who casts her eye over his material. A far cry from the prudish British stereotype, Desiree isn't afraid to tackle provocative subjects and speak her mind - so what will she make of James' work? And has he finally met his match in comedy?Follow James on Twitter @jameshaskell and Instagram @jameshaskell.
Rejoice, rejoice for the day has finally arrived when we're allowed to go misty-eyed at the reverie of a VERY special pair of Hollywood exes, all thanks to this week's incredible guest, the fantastic comedian, Desiree Burch! Desiree takes us all the way back to the beginning of the 1990s, when Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins were couples goals for everyone in and outside of Tinsel Town. But, how on earth could such a holy alliance fail? Well, as always Grainne's rigorous research and Chantal's encyclopedic knowledge give us all a pretty good idea of what probably went down and how then-child star Saoirse Ronan may (or may not) have been the catalyst which ended this once-solid couple. We also get to find out why Ms Sarandan is forever linked with the world of ping pong - and it's got nothing to do with the movies! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This week my guest is Desiree Burch. She's a US born comic who came to the UK and won the Funny Women award in 2015. Since then, she's been all over the telly, appearing on the likes of The Mash Report, Frankie Boyle's New World Order, and 8 Out of 10 Cats. In this episode we talk about her horror-film fuelled upbringing, what she's learned about life and love, and her resultant disastrous attempt to monetise that wisdom. This week the boys highlight Desiree Burch's new YouTube series, Profiles in Fatness, answer a listener question about where to find bodybuilder chasers, and talk about current trends in negative male body image.
Host Samantha Baines rounds up the series and remembers the pearls of wisdom her fantastic and varied guests have shared with us. From hearing Amy Christopher's experiences of 'marrying' and breaking up on TV's 'Married at First Sight' to comedian Desiree Burch recounting the time she cried all over her pizza when her relationship ended, we've heard from people at every stage of the divorce/ break-up spectrum. Journalist Stacey Duigud spoke to us whilst still navigating her way through a divorce and discussed with Samantha the newly announced plans for the UK to switch to 'no-fault divorce' and fellow divorce podcaster Kate Daly shared her experiences of breaking free from an abusive marriage and how she helps others who are in similar situations. Thank you so much for joining us for this series, we will be back for series 8, and in the meantime, why not go back and enjoy our amazing back catalog of episodes! See you soon! "There's nothing quite as alone as laying in bed next to someone and feeling profoundly alone " Desiree BurchIn the final episode of this series, Samantha Baines talks to comedian, actor & presenter of Netlix's reality dating show 'Too Hot To Handle', Desiree Burch about finding the courage to go through the heartache of a break-up. Desiree tells us about a significant break-up in her past and how she found the strength to carry on with her show at The Edinburgh Fringe, making people laugh night after night, in the immediate aftermath of a painful, yet necessary break-up. Samantha and Desiree also talk about the loneliness of being with someone after the relationship has run its course, how relief and hope emerge through the pain and tears of heartbreak and why it's impossible not to cry on an airplane.
