In today's episode, Amanda drinks some non-alcoholic beer with comedian Laura Ramoso. Laura is a German-Italian comedian best known for her viral online characters, including “German Mom”, “Italian Dad”, “Girl who just got back from…”, and "Chiara". She has amassed over 3 million followers, sold out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and London's Soho Theatre, and completed a 60+ show, sold-out world tour with her third live special, Sit Up Straight. She was named a 2023 Just For Laughs New Face, and recently opened for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on their Restless Leg tour at the Wang Theatre in Boston. She is now gearing up for her 2026 international tour with her fourth solo special The Calm Down Tour. In this episode, Amanda and Laura discuss Laura's journey from classical theatre training to falling in love with sketch and improv, navigating the pressure of an audience's expectations, and the difference in creating comedy for the stage versus online.   Mentions from this episode… ~ Heavy Weight (podcast) https://www.pushkin.fm/podcasts/heavyweight   Terms we mentioned… “Beat out / Beat it out” - refers to the process of breaking a comedy idea into key moment-by-moment story or joke beats before writing it out fully.   ~ ~ ~ ~ ~   Let's Connect!    Liquid Courage - click here!  Amanda Pereira (host) - click here!  Laura Ramoso (guest) - click here!    Laura's Work in Progress shows (Dec 2025 in Toronto)  Laura's The Calm Down Tour (2026)    ⇒ To donate to the show, click here!   ~ ~ ~ ~ ~   The music in this episode is thanks to HookSounds. They discuss Phil learning about making it on the show, how he found recording the series, and the novelty of receiving fan-art (even if they all tend to depict him with slightly less hair than he has in real life). Plus, Phil recounts some of his infamous stunts at previous Edinburgh Fringe shows, including the time when pretending to hang himself by the rafter almost had a fatal ending. They also chat about Phil's appearance on Sunday Brunch, the possibility of Live at the Apollo, and why it's important to say "yes" to whatever opportunities come your way.Phil is on a UK tour including dates at London's Soho Theatre in December, Edinburgh's Monkey Barrel on 23rd February & The Stand in Glasgow on 15th April. Jack and the Beanstalk will run at Watford Palace Theatre from 29 November 2025 to 4 January 2026. Steve also mentioned Werewolf, which will run at the same theatre from 22 November to 24 December 2025, and The Mesmerist, running from 2 to 21 March 2026.

The Comedian's Comedian Podcast

Lucy Pearman is one of the most inventive and original comedians in the UK, her shows are gloriously surreal, full of clowning, characters, props, audience interaction and ideas that feel like they've tumbled straight out of a wonderfully strange imagination. Her one-off BBC Three original comedy, Please Help, was nominated for a BAFTA, and she won the Malcolm Hardee Award for Comic Originality. We discuss exploring the vulnerability beneath the absurd, Lucy's process of discovering characters onstage, how embracing strangeness is an act of connection, the reality of making art in our current economy, how the death of director Adam Brace impacted her creative process, the challenges of bringing clowning to a wider audience and is Lucy Pearman happy…I need YOUR HELP for Episode 500! Food glorious food: not only does it sustain and nourish us as individuals, it brings together communities, crosses borders and merges cultures. When Atoosa Sepehr fled an abusive marriage in Iran, she found herself alone and lonely in London. And then she started cooking. The Persian dishes she created providing an anchor to the home she missed and forging friendships in the one she was creating.  In My English Persian Kitchen, Atoosa's story is brought to the stage by playwright Hannah Khalil. But unlike most theatre, it's not just food for thought, it's also food for faces: during the one-woman show, actress Isabella Nefar cooks ãsh, a Persian noodle and herb soup, hugely popular in Iran – and then she shares the dish with the audience.  Mick caught up with Atoosa and Hannah to talk about the power and joy of food, finding community, and how the hell you fit a recipe into a play. My English Persian Kitchen is on at Soho Theatre from September 30 to October 11, before travelling to Bristol, Dublin and Belfast.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Garrett Millerick is an acclaimed stand-up comedian, writer, and director whose unique and versatile style has made him a favourite on the UK and international comedy circuits. A frequent Critics' Choice, he has appeared on Conan, SiriusXM, and more. His breakout live show Sunflower became one of the most talked-about performances of 2018. Garrett recently wrote and starred in Do Gooders a workplace sitcom for BBC Radio 4 that takes audiences behind the curtain of the charity industry alongside a cast that includes Frank Skinner, Fay Ripley, Lisa McGrillis, Ahir Shah and Ania Magliano. Critically acclaimed comedian Garrett Millerick's 2022 smash hit show, Just Trying to Help, is making its eagerly awaited debut as a streamable comedy special on the prestigious 800 Pound Gorilla platform. Firecrotch & Normcore: a Succession Podcast

What is the difference - is there a difference - between a generic bout of bad breath and simply stinking of a single food item? How offensive can we get when discussing the elderly? Especially given it's a demographic far closer to either of us than, say, youth. All this and more thanks to a single visit to a National Trust property. Plus we talk about Jack Thorne & Stephen Graham's new show Adolescence, which is truly a masterpiece, and we are VERY SERIOUS about it because being flippant felt weird. Women in prison are resorting to self-harm because of “astonishing gaps” in basic services including strict time limits when contacting their children, according to a new report from His Majesty's Inspectorate of Prisons for England and Wales released today. The report's author Sandra Fieldhouse joins Anita Rani, as does the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice Shabana Mahmood. Singer and stand-up comedian Hajar J Woodland joins Anita to discuss her show, First Love, coming to Soho Theatre in London. After being raised in a household where singing wasn't encouraged, her show explores the boundaries we put up around ourselves and what it means to finally find love and your voice. New research has quantified for the first time how many young people have been diagnosed with gender dysphoria by GPs in England. Academics at the University of York studied a decade's worth of NHS records and discovered a 50-fold increase in this particular diagnosis between 2011 and 2021. However each general practice will only see one or two such patients each year. Anita speaks to Professor of Health Policy Tim Doran. The French have been told to wear the same T-shirt for five days before washing it, and sports clothing three times. It's part of advice from the government's Ecological Transition Agency, which is trying to get people to do less laundry to save water. So how often should we really be washing our clothes? Anita is joined by Professor Sally Bloomfield from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine to tell us more. Presenter: Anita Rani Producer: Emma Pearce

In this book, Baddiel claims that the key thing about contemporary antisemitism is the left's confusion over it, and how this confusion means that Jews are uniquely excluded from left-wing political discourse and activism. We discuss (and make fun of) Baddiel's book for about an hour and a half covering every aspect of his shallow understanding of racism, whiteness, Jewishness and antisemitism, and why Baddiel should probably get new friends.Listen to the full episode here:E98: Radical Reads – ‘Jews Don't Count' by David BaddielMore information:Read Michael's excellent book (co-authored with Alex Charnley), Fractured: Race, Class, Gender and the Hatred of Identity PoliticsA number of Michael's articles can be found here and here.
