Bill Browder is a human rights activist who championed the Magnitsky Act, signed into law by President Obama. It not only sanctions Russians, but others around the world. Similar legislation is now in place in over 30 countries. He is also a bestselling author and former hedge fund manager. In this episode, we talk about his career, about how he coped with a 90% fall in the value of his fund, about how he subsequently engineered a 37x recovery for the portfolio, about his deportation from Russia and how he subsequently secretly cashed in the gains and returned the cash to investors. And of course we talk about the events that led up to the tragic death of his lawyer and friend Sergei Magnitsky. Warning: Listeners may find some of this discussion upsetting. In the latest episode of Crewsing for a Brewsing, Adam McGee presents an episode from the archives of Captured on Celluloid, a movie podcast he and Andrew Snyder also co-host. Normal Brewers service will resume on Thursday when Adam will be joined to discuss the Pirates series by GSPN colleague and Win in 6 co-host, Jordan Treske. Back in March 2020 when COVID-19 first took hold, Adam and Andrew embarked on a series of episodes focused on sports movies to fill the sports-shaped gap that suddenly appeared around the world. And one of those was a baseball movie deep dive, in spite of the fact Adam did not watch any baseball at that time. With Andrew on vacation, it seemed worth re-posting that episode here, particularly as Adam and Andrew were also joined by Jordan on that occasion. WARNING: Listeners with strong, positive feelings about Field of Dreams may be offended. Crewsing for a Brewsing and the Gyro Step Podcast Network are proud to call Blue Wire's network of podcasts home. You can follow Crewsing for a Brewsing, Adam, and Andrew on Twitter, while you should also follow Gyro Step Podcast and Win in 6 Podcast for all of your Milwaukee Bucks pod needs! In the first part of my especially spooky Halloween series, I begin a hunt for the true nature of the werewolf, looking at its roots in antiquity and mythology and the evolution of the notion through folklore and etymology. In this first installment, I explore werewolf claims in relation to real wolf attacks, trace the idea of their vulnerability to silver, and suggest that the werewolf may have first been a metaphor for savagery and cannibalism later applied to murderers who acted more as animals than men and were punished as such. Happy October! Look for part two before Halloween! WARNING: Listeners sensitive to such content should be advised that this episode contains vivid descriptions of violence against women and children. Warning: Listeners may be offended by almost every word of this episode. Go to http://www.manbrainpodcast.com for all the links & kinks. 042 End Gender Segregation in Sport: According to Man Brain Team Member Brett aka Skullfucker: "Being a woman is a disability! Get them out of the Olympic Games unless they can compete with the men! That is real equal opportunity! Women can go to the Para-olympics or the Special Olympics or the Pink Pussy Slut Hat Olympics or any of the ‘exclude the best and give everyone else a medal’ cripple circle jerks. If that offends you sweetheart, then it’s time to deprogram your delusional gender equality brainwashing. If you don’t know what that means, don’t worry your pretty little head about it with those sweet plump DSLs. Start by jumping on my wheelchair, getting dem titties out, and sucking my cock while you hum along to the Man Brain theme tune! Yeah, I’m suffering from toxic masculinity so you’re going to have to suck out the poison. RAAAHH!" The Mind Renewed : Thinking Christianly in a New World Order
We welcome back long-time friend of the show Antony Rotunno for a wide-ranging conversation on the 2016 BBC documentary HyperNormalisation by Adam Curtis. Borrowing the word "hypernormalisation" from a book by ex-Soviet citizen Alexei Yurchak, in whose writing it described an officially-encouraged delusional state of mind in the gradually-collapsing Soviet Union, Adam Curtis creatively applies the term to the West since the last quarter of the 20th Century; a time in which, he argues, both politicians and citizens have "retreated" from hard problems in favour of "fake" versions of reality, while the banking and technological elites have continued to fill the vacuum with their technocratic systems of "stability" and "control". While we remain unpersuaded by elements of Curtis's overall narrative and gently critical of his somewhat pretentious style, we nevertheless find the documentary rich with fascinating subjects, and share our own perspectives in a relaxed and fairly unstructured way. Warning: Listeners unfamiliar with HyperNormalisation may find parts of the conversation difficult to follow. This is a reflection of the documentary itself which is rather disjointed and too ambitious in scope. So it might be a good idea—though not necessary, because I do try to explain as much as possible—to watch the documetary first (if you have time, that is!). Human Trafficking. It’s a huge industry generating 100s of billions of dollars each year, through the exploitation of vulnerable people seeking a better future. The Rohingya are some of its victims. A few kind words and an offer of work beyond the camps, can lead men, women and children into the dark underbelly of slave-like employment and sex work. In this podcast we’re exploring what Rohingya go through and how they’re approached. Warning: Listeners may find some of the descriptions in this podcast upsetting.
