Welcome to the Show and today I have a couple of guests on the show who I have known for a few years via the Analogue Hobbies Winter Paint Challenge (see Episode 18 for more). Ray Rousell and Big Lee Hadley have been around the hobby for many years, both running successful wargaming blogs, with Lee branching off into the world of the Utubes in recent years, having his popular question of the week videos every Sunday. As usual we start with a bit of an introduction and general game chat before using the second part of the show to discuss the Posties Rejects group that both Ray and Lee belong to. After the usual mayhem of the Quiz we get down to an in depth discussion of the recent Salute 52 Wargames Show down in that there London. This is a really fun episode with a couple of great guys who have a similar outlook on the hobby to me, hope you enjoy it. Rays blog is here Don't Throw a 1 Lees is here BigLee's 'Miniature Adventures' I will be returning in a week or so with a further exciting update on the German Raid on the Isle of Wight in WW2 with Paul Thompson. Looking forward to that. Regards Ken The Yarkshire Gamer

Sent us text! We would love to hear from you! Perhaps the author Hailey Edwards put it best, “I do believe that sometimes—whether it's fate or accidental – we cross paths with someone who shatters us on a fundamental level and remakes us into a better version of ourselves.” To commemorate our two hundredth podcast your wingmen decided to give some background about who they are and how they came to be what they are today. The vision of the show was from the mind of Commander Drew Brown who saw a need to present positive sides of life that seem to be missing from all forms of media. Countering the mantra of media outlets who go by the saying, “if it bleeds, it leads”, his vision was to highlight a world where good things happen to good people, because of good people. He recruited the one and only Dr. Paul Thompson, someone who he had known for years and rather surprisingly had quite a few things in common despite only meeting each other in adulthood. In this broadcast we discuss a wide range of commonalities as well as differences that make up our lives. Some things happen by chance; maybe it's just fate. This show highlights some of the similarities and differences between the two of us. Serendipity refers to the joyful or fortunate discovery of something valuable or significant that happens unexpectedly. That is one way to describe our motivations and our relationship to our families, the world of aviation and each other. The goal of the show is to inspire people to be better people and in turn, inspire others to do the same. Whether you are rich and famous or broke and insecure, as human beings we have a common destiny. Let's make the most of the life we have.

In this special episode, host Eric Newman joins LARB senior editor Paul Thompson and Film Comment co-editors Devika Girish and Clinton Krute for a look at this year's Oscar nominees ahead of this weekend's award ceremony. Surveying this rather strange year in film, the gang discusses the gory camp of The Substance, the omnipresence of Wicked, the multi-genre madness of Emilia Pérez, and much more.
The Academy Awards take place on Sunday, March 2, bringing a strange and wonderful year in cinema—and an awards race filled with surprises and scandals—to an end. Will Emilia Perez win prizes despite the controversy surrounding its lead actress? Will Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan beat Adrien Brody as a brutalist architect in the Best Actor category? Will Oscar voters penalize films for using too much AI? We don't have all the answers to these pressing questions but, as usual, we do have a lot of opinions and (probably inaccurate) predictions. To sound those out, Film Comment editors Devika Girish and Clinton Krute joined Los Angeles Review of Books editors Eric Newman and Paul Thompson on their Radio Hour program to hotly debate the relative merits of Anora, Nickel Boys, Conclave, A Complete Unknown, The Brutalist, and other films vying for a statuette or two on Sunday.
A conversation with Paul Thompson about how our personal stories have shape us, and how important it is to explore and understand those stories and that shaping, for our progress in Christlikeness.

John Duffy - Press for 9/11 TruthJul 17, 2023John Duffy joins Ed Opperman to discuss the lasting impact of his documentary on the 9/11 attacks, and his continuing campaign for justice for the relatives of the victims.Filmmakers Ray Nowosielski and John Duffy first became interested in making a film about the September 11 attacks when they found Paul Thompson's Complete 911 Timeline website in spring 2003. After obtaining funding, they met Thompson in September 2004, who agreed to let them adapt his work. The filmmakers also met Kyle Hence, who had co-founded 9/11 Citizens Watch, an advocacy organization which monitored the activities of the 9/11 Commissionon behalf of the public and was in close contact with the 9/11 Family Steering Committee. He agreed to join the production as executive producer (eventually also becoming a co-producer and co-writer), and in the spring of 2005, helped them get interviews with three of the "Jersey Girls" (widows of individuals killed in the attacks).Production ended in December 2005, with post-production completed in July 2006.The film premiered theatrically in September 2006 in New York Cityand the San Francisco Bayarea. Hi everyone, This was planned initially as a bit of a catch up episode with a number of guests but I wasn't able to get all the interviews done and I've been away myself so rather than have this lying around for weeks I've put my catch up with Paul out as an individual episode. Paul was my guest on Episode 43 and we chatted in depth on that occasion about Early War Miniatures and at the start of this show we chat for half an hour about what is going on at EWM and how they managed to cope with The Great Wargames Website Wobble of 24, something that affected many companies in the UK. We then move onto, what for me is one of the most fascinating stories I've ever covered on this show, the German raid on the coast of the Isle of Wight in 1943, an event which occurred just round the corner from where Paul lives and works. An amazing amount of work has gone on since we last spoke and Paul fills us in on the information that has come to light recently. The story isn't complete yet but its been a privilege to be party to the information as its come out and I look forward to hearing more. My next guest will be author Andy Johnson who has written a number of historical novels set in different eras, the WW2 and Wars of the Roses books have been on my reading pile recently. Andy has also done a bit of gaming as well as having a career in the military, so there will be plenty to chat about. Its important for me to keep the Podcast fresh and entertaining (for me as well) and with that in mind I've got a couple of different types of shows (in addition to the current, wargamer, brews in the binyard and historian styles) in the pipeline and I hope to announce those in the near future. So sit back and enjoy my chat with Paul and I'll see you again next time. Sithee Regards Ken The Yarkshire Gamer
Welcome back everyone to Episode 63 of the Yarkshire Gamers Reet Big Wargames Podcast and today I've got off my backside and driven down t'road to Honley just outside Holmfirth where I sat down with Trevor Dixon of Dixon Miniatures to chat about his time in the hobby. He got his first break with Hinchliffe Miniatures before striking out on his own in the 1970s with a range of Monguls, much much more was to come over the following years. Dixon Miniatures are full of character, something which for me is lacking in modern day 3d sculpts, his Samurai range is still one of the best for the period and as you can see, it looks the absolute business. A bit shorter than usual as I just went for a straight interview rather than the usual sections but I had a lovely time talking with Trev and I hope you enjoy listening to it. Drop by Trevors website and pick up some of his lovely figures, if we all do it, it will save him doing the decorating ! https://www.dixon-minis.com/ Back in a few weeks time for a catch up episode, my one confirmed guest so far is Paul Thompson from EWM who will give us an update on EWM, The Great Wargames Website Wobble and of course the 1943 German Raid on the Isle of Wight. Until next time Sithee Regards Ken The Yarkshire Gamer

Phil Manzanera is one of the UK's best-known musicians and record producers, having shot to prominence in the early ‘70's as the lead guitarist with the seminal band, Roxy Music. He is widely acknowledged as one of the world's leading guitarists and remains in huge demand. Roxy Music were inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019 and recently Phil was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to music. He was born to a British father and Colombian mother and has collaborated with musicians from South and Latin America, South Africa, Cuba and continental Europe. His recent album releases include The Liberation Project: Songs That Made us Free, Corroncho 2 and Live in Japan as well as The Ghost from Santiago that he did with Split Enz's Tim Finn. In recent years Phil has co-produced Pink Floyd's ‘The Endless River'. He released, ‘The Sound of Blue', his own autobiographical album, co-produced David Gilmour's new album, ‘Rattle That Lock', toured with Gilmour in the UK, Europe and South America. In 2015 he was Maestro Concertatore at Italy's largest free festival. He also took part in ‘Sunshine of Your Love' a tribute concert to his friend, Jack Bruce. Phil's musical influence stretches far and wide, but even he was taken by surprise when his guitar riff from 1978's K-Scope was sampled by Jay Z and Kanye West and became the Grammy winning smash hit ‘No Church in the Wild' the first track on their multi-million selling album, ‘Watch The Throne'. At 73, Phil is now in his fourth decade as a professional musician. He joined Roxy Music in 1972, aged 21, as lead guitarist. Roxy's rise was meteoric, with the band being hailed as the stylistic influence of the early 1970's. During the next 12 years, until 1983 when the band members went on a ‘long break', Roxy Music released a series of international best selling albums, achieving ten UK top ten albums and touring extensively throughout the world. The 18 year hiatus ended in 2001 with a critically acclaimed, sellout 52-date world tour featuring Bryan Ferry, Andy MacKay and Paul Thompson. The world rediscovered Roxy Music. In the summer of 2003 Roxy again played in the US and Europe. 2010 saw Roxy Music thrilling fans at Festivals in the UK, Europe and Japan, which was followed by a Winter UK tour, and dates in Australia and New Zealand. As a writer, producer and solo artist, Phil Manzanera has worked with many of the luminaries of modern music, such as Steve Winwood, David Gilmour, John Cale, Godley and Creme, Nico (Velvet Underground) and John Wetton (King Crimson, Asia). He has co-written material with many artists, including Brian Eno, Tim Finn and David Gilmour. Phil co-wrote Pink Floyd's single ‘One Slip'from their 1988 ‘Momentary Lapse of Reason' album. He has recently been awarded an OBE. Phil joins us this week to share his amazing story. Real Estate Investing With Jay Conner, The Private Money Authority
Financial freedom is not just a dream; it's a feasible reality for those who are willing to step off the beaten path and take control of their financial destinies. In this episode of the Raising Private Money podcast, guest Paul Thompson, an expert in real estate and private lending, shares invaluable insights on achieving financial freedom by investing in real estate. The Philosophy of Private FundingPaul Thompson and Jay Conner delve deep into the core principles of Raising Private Money. A central theme is the strategy of building relationships rather than making direct financial requests. This approach not only opens more doors but also establishes a foundation of trust and mutual benefit. Key to this strategy is the concept presented by Jay Conner: 'Dig your well before you're thirsty.' This means building your network and relationships long before you need to tap into them for funding.Realizing Personal Agency and Redefining GoalsPaul discusses the common trap many fall into following life patterns set by society and family expectations. He encourages the audience to awaken to their personal agency—choosing paths that align with their deepest values and goals. This redefinition of success shifts the focus from societal expectations to personal aspirations, paving the way for more targeted and satisfying achievements.Introduction to Seller FinancingOne of the episode's most enlightening discussions revolves around seller financing. Paul Thompson explains this as an advantageous approach where buyers propose to handle maintenance and payments directly to the sellers, releasing them from the hassles associated with traditional bank dealings. This method not only simplifies the purchasing process but also aligns the interests of both parties toward more favorable terms. The Power of Asking the Right QuestionsPaul stresses the importance of asking the right questions, both of oneself and others. It's about identifying what really matters in a transaction or a business relationship. The ability to pinpoint these critical questions can transform challenges into opportunities, driving forward more effective and prosperous engagements. The Wake-Up Call to EntrepreneurshipA significant personal revelation is shared by Paul as he recollects a pivotal moment in 2015—being denied the flexibility to work remotely. This was the wake-up call that pushed him to leave his corporate job and dive headfirst into real estate investing. It's a powerful reminder of how moments of rejection or failure can lead to life's most transformative opportunities.Building a Life by DesignBoth Paul Thompson and Jay Conner conclude by emphasizing the overarching theme of the episode: living a life by design. This vision encompasses not only financial strategies like private lending and seller financing but also the broader philosophical shift toward personal fulfillment and freedom. Listeners are encouraged to sketch their ideal life's vision, focusing on lifestyle, purpose, and time management to facilitate a pathway to financial independence.“The Quality Of Your Life Depends On The Quality Of Your Questions”- Paul David Thompson10 Lessons Covered in this Episode:1. Life by Design:Define individual priorities to create a purposeful and fulfilling lifestyle according to personal values.2. Financial Freedom:Explore real estate investing to achieve financial independence and escape the conventional 9-to-5 work paradigm.3. Description: Your WakeUp Call begins when you start to challenge conventional thinking. When you empower yourself to break free from the daily grind. When you choose to design your lifestyle and economy. In this episode, Paul Thompson shares his insights on developing an effective process for running a successful business. He outlines his approach to setting big, hairy, audacious goals, breaking them down into a 3-year vision and 1-year plan, and then implementing a cadence of weekly tactical meetings and daily huddles to drive execution and accountability. Paul emphasizes the importance of having clear metrics, identifying bottlenecks, and building systems that can scale without constant intervention from the business owner. Whether you're a seasoned entrepreneur or just starting, this episode provides valuable takeaways on how to build a thriving, self-sustaining business. Key Takeaways: Define a clear, measurable "big, hairy, audacious goal" that aligns with your company's mission. Break down your long-term vision into a 1-year plan with specific initiatives and key performance indicators. Implement a rhythm of weekly tactical meetings and daily huddles to drive accountability and continuous improvement. Identify and address the bottlenecks in your business, whether it's processes, communication, or your own involvement. Strive to build a well-oiled machine that can operate with little to no direct oversight from the business owner. Description: Your WakeUp Call begins when you start to challenge conventional thinking. When you empower yourself to break free from the daily grind. When you choose to design your own lifestyle and economy. Join host Paul Thompson with guest Bob Lachance in a conversation that digs into the intriguing intersection of real estate investment, virtual assistants, and the evolving landscape of remote work. Bob shares his rich journey from rehabber to founder of a virtual assistant company, shedding light on the critical role of practical knowledge and effective systems in the real estate market. Explore the cost-effective solution of hiring virtual assistants from the Philippines and discover the diverse tasks they can manage, from lead generation to admin responsibilities. The episode also navigates the challenges of finding reliable virtual assistants and outlines the potential benefits of acquiring properties to alleviate tax burdens. Key Takeaways: Virtual assistants play a vital role beyond administrative tasks. Commonly outsourced tasks in real estate, like lead generation and admin responsibilities, are efficiently handled by virtual assistants, offering a valuable resource for investors. Hiring reliable virtual assistants is challenging, but Bob shared insights into a rigorous hiring process. Outsourcing to specialized third parties can be beneficial. Investors should understand their niche and seek virtual assistants accordingly, avoiding the expectation of them running the entire business. Due diligence is advised in selecting virtual assistant companies. Bob's decision to invest in properties for tax relief is highlighted. Positive cash flow and long-term property holding are emphasized, acknowledging challenges like property management and the need for virtual assistants. The two discuss Knolly's tough upbringing and how it influenced his choice to enter the world of business. Key Points From This Episode: Everything that physically exists was an idea in the mind of a human being at one time. 95% of what happens in your day to day happens at the sub-atomic level– automatically. Your habits are the result of your beliefs. Every action you've taken in your life has led you to where you are right now. You can completely rework and rewire the fabric of your brain, so that you think differently When you change what you believe, you not only change what you have, you change who you are. The #1 Regret of people on their deathbed: “I wish I'd lived a life true to myself, not what other people wanted” 90% of the things we do every day for our businesses, only move the needle 10%. So what is the 10% we actually need to focus on? Just 2 Things Are Essential to actually bringing in money. 1) Generating Leads and 2) Making Sales. You might be Wounded, but You're Not Broken. Your WakeUp Call begins when you start to challenge conventional thinking. When you empower yourself to break free from the daily grind. When you choose to design your own lifestyle and economy. Paul Thompson is joined for this episode of “The Wake-Up Call” by Life and Business Coach Angie Wisdom. After getting started as an investment firm owner and financial advisor, Angie has moved into the life coaching space, guiding people into becoming the best possible, most “non-negotiable” version of themselves they can be. The two go into detail about the need for knowing and having access to the greatest version of ourselves, so that we can create the life, business, and relationships that we want. You have to “fill up your own cup” before you can fill the cup of others. Angie and Paul have a fantastic discussion about life and lessons learned that make up Angie's new book, “The Non-Negotiable You”. Key Points From This Episode: If you can genuinely bring your Focus to what you CAN Control, you'll have so much freedom to become the best version of yourself. You can't hitch your happiness onto someone else's happiness– Otherwise you will need to be in control of others in order to feel joy. No matter who you are or where you come from, many of us have “Universal Challenges” that all come from the same place. YOU have to be great at being YOU. The “Morning Mindset” is key. If you win the morning, you win the Day. You can't expect to respond with the right tools and knowledge (such as gratitude) if you're not practicing them everyday. When You “Choose Your Seat”, you know exactly where you want to be and what place you want to be in. From there you can be intentional about taking action. Your WakeUp Call begins when you start to challenge conventional thinking. When you empower yourself to break free from the daily grind. When you choose to design your own lifestyle and economy. Former Navy Veteran and current Real Estate Investor Corey Chonsky joins host Paul Thompson for this episode of “The Wake-Up Call”. Similarly to Paul's story in the corporate world, Corey saw a financially secure future for himself outside of the military and took a leap into Real Estate Investing. Beyond the discussion surrounding Corey's time in the navy, the two go into detail about best practices for investing, regardless of if it's on your own or with a group through Syndication. Knowing how to connect with others, and who to connect with, is likely to determine the success of your Syndication regardless of what sort of deal you're planning to do. Key Points From This Episode: Measure growth carefully, and don't bite off more than you can chew. Bring in team members who fill in your gaps– know your weaknesses. A Deal Might fall through, but you can come out better with the new connections you've made, as long as they're carefully vetted. You can't have someone on your team for the sole purpose of capital– you need an established relationship A great way to get into syndication is to offer a team (like Corey's) help in some sort of way, services, etc. Being intentional about increasing connections is important when getting into the syndication world. Conferences, podcasts, social media, etc. are all important. “Survive until 2025”... Many people are waiting to see what's going to happen in real estate in the coming months Get in the Game. Candidates making up the crowded 2024 GOP field have a crucial opportunity to set themselves apart and gain favor from voters during this week's debate -- but how will they do so? Will they go after former President Donald Trump, regardless of whether he makes an appearance, or focus more on convincing voters why they must get President Joe Biden out of the White House, offering a more hopeful view of the future? Though both have been common strategies, only time will tell which will attract the widest range of voters, leading some Republican candidates to shine while others fall further back into the shadows.
