A doctor once asked Amber, at 22 years old, if she wanted to talk to hospice. That gut-punch became a pivot point—not into a fairytale, but into a decade of clear-eyed choices, bariatric surgery, and a long arc of sustainable change. We invited Amber to tell the truth behind the cameras, the clinic, and the countless meals that followed. We walk through what most shows skip: how casting really works, why production often writes your role before it meets you, and what genuine medical prep looks like for Roux-en-Y gastric bypass—therapy, dietitian support, pre-op targets, insurance approvals, and the quiet discipline of a phased, protein-forward recovery. Amber shares why her extreme weight didn't come with expected comorbidities, how subcutaneous versus visceral fat affected her risk, and why assumptions about sleep apnea at larger sizes often miss age and fat distribution. She stayed active at every stage—volleyball, long walks, and now husky-powered jogs—which protected mobility and made progress stick. There's science, but there's also soul. Amber's path wasn't a dramatic drop; it was seasons of plateaus, better sleep, and small, durable wins. We get practical about portions, satiety, and an unexpectedly powerful trick: the “bucket method.” Load your day's food into a visible container or tray and graze with receipts. It's funny, tactile, and radically accountable—a way to keep snacks without slipping into a surplus. Along the way, we trade fiber hacks (chia for the win), talk about gums and fake sauces that taste like a lab, and still make room to laugh at ourselves.Amber is now fundraising for skin-removal surgery, starting with brachioplasty and targeted calf lipo after years of lymphedema and record-size calves that once made walking a grind. Her counsel to anyone struggling is simple and bold: begin with grace, then investigate your why. If overeating props up pain, you can't just yank the beam—you need a new support. Hit play for honesty, nuance, and a plan that favors real life over rigid rules. If this story moved you, follow and share it with someone who needs hope. In an age of growing wealth disparities, politicians on both sides of the aisle are sounding the alarm about the fading American Dream. Yet despite all evidence to the contrary, many still view the United States as the land of opportunity. The American Mirage addresses this puzzle by exposing the stark reality of today's media landscape, revealing how popular entertainment media shapes politics and public opinion in an increasingly news-avoiding nation. Drawing on an eclectic array of original data, Dr. Eunji Kim demonstrates how, amid a dazzling array of media choices, many Americans simply are not consuming the news. Instead, millions flock to entertainment programs that showcase real-life success stories, such as American Idol, Shark Tank, and MasterChef. Dr. Kim examines how shows like these leave viewers confoundingly optimistic about the prospects of upward mobility, promoting a false narrative of rugged individualism and meritocracy that contradicts what is being reported in the news. By taking seriously what people casually watch every day, The American Mirage shows how rags-to-riches programs perpetuate the myth of the American Dream, glorifying the economic winners, fostering tolerance for income inequality, and dampening support for redistributive policies that could improve people's lives. Our guest is: Dr. Eunji Kim, who is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Columbia University. As a political communication scholar, she primarily studies the impact of media content on mass attitudes and political behavior. She is the author of The American Mirage: How Reality TV Upholds the Myth of Meritocracy. Her research explores a range of topics, and has been published in many leading journals including the American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. In the final installment of Binchtopia's two-part reality TV series, Allegra returns to dissect the inner workings behind the spectacle. Digressions include a medical emergency induced by Tinsley Mortimer, Mary Cosby's Mother God arc, and seeking justice for Disney adults. If Barack Obama says there are aliens, then there are aliens. While the former President is busy clarifying that he didn't actually see any ETs in the Oval Office, Jessie Stephens has a theory: Is men’s obsession with outer space just a symptom of not having enough mental load? Plus, the political "pub test" is officially dead, and the "algorithm test" has moved in and made itself comfortable. We’re looking at why the Internet is both the world’s best fact-checker and its most dangerous bias-confirmer. And Holly Wainwright is asking, what IS the actual pub test in 2026? And because we clearly haven't done enough critical thinking, we’re wading into the chaos of Married At First Sight. Jessie, of course, is an expert in the field, and she’s bringing several philosophical questions from the new season, starting with: Can you ever come back from a sexual chemistry deficit? In other business, apparently, humans "fall off a cliff" at age 44, which is sending Amelia Lester into a spiral. Happily, there’s a pick-me-up coming: Hollywood A-listers are signalling that side-parts are back. What’s next? Skinny jeans and ballet flats? Oh. I will be doing full show breakdowns on social media (TikTok) but here, I will be doing overall show thoughts, as well as some show recommendations and some tea on things going on with myself as well. Who knows, maybe some surprise guests along the way I just want to do a re-introduction, and share some insights on what's been going on and some future plans in place now. Oh, and of course spill some tea on ya'll's favorite show, 90 Day Fiance hahaha.

Sarah and Will start with personal watchlists and scheduling updates, then dive into how A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms turns a simple "trial by seven" into a meditation on luck, faith, and class, while still delivering grounded, brutal action. Why Wonder Man's back half leans hard into character work, meta-Hollywood satire, and emotional payoff, sticking the landing for Season 1. Perfect for fans of Game of Thrones-era Westeros and Marvel's weirder, more grounded character studies. Today's episode is a deeply personal one. I was devastated to hear of the passing of James Van Der Beek. Like so many of you, I grew up watching Dawson's Creek. But for me, it was even more than a show. My very first job was working on Dawson's Creek in Wilmington, North Carolina. My parents got to see their little girl step onto a set they watched in our living room every week... and that memory means everything to me. Years later, I had dinner with James and his wife Kimberly (who was one of the very first guests ever on Food Heals episode 6). That night, James sat with me, looked me in the eyes, and told me my parents were proud of me. He held space for me in a way most people never do. He didn't have to. But that's who he was. In this episode, I'm joined by: Reality TV producer Jessica Sirikulbut, who shares her heartfelt reflections on James' character, his spiritual depth, and the emotional impact this loss has had on our generation. Ryan Bailey, host of So Bad It's Good, who brings his thoughtful pop culture lens to James' legacy and the profound way he shaped so many of our lives. Together, we reflect on: • The impact Dawson's Creek had on our generation • James' powerful final interviews about love and worthiness • What cancer teaches us about presence and perspective • The emotional and spiritual layers of healing • Why "I am worthy of love" might be the most important mantra of all James wasn't just a talented actor. He was a light. A father of six. A devoted husband. A man who meditated, journaled, and led with love. And in a world that feels so divided, his passing feels like a wake-up call to return to what actually matters. Love. Presence. Connection. Forgiveness. Sweetness in life. If this episode moves you, and you feel called to support his family during this unimaginable time, you can contribute here:

SummaryIn this episode of Bella Talks TV, Bella is joined by Nikki and Brie from the Not Mad About It podcast to discuss the latest in Bravo's reality TV landscape. They explore their connections through reality TV and their love of OG franchises like RHONJ and RHOC and the evolution of the genre, and the introduction of the new Real Housewives of Rhode Island. The conversation delves into the dynamics of the cast, the role of husbands in reality TV, and the anticipation for new storylines. They also reflect on how reality TV impacts personal lives and the future of Bravo franchises, culminating in a discussion about the premiere of Summer House Season 10. In this engaging conversation, the hosts delve into the evolving dynamics of the Summer House cast, discussing the potential exits of key members like Kyle, Amanda, and Carl and the new IN THE CITY spinoff, which is a spinoff of THE VALLEY and will there be a show called "THE BANKS" for the Southern Charm and Southern Hospitality kids who all get married?? LOL . They explore the complexities of Amanda and Kyle's separation in the Summer House, the impact of new cast members, and the role of Salley in Southern Charm. Do we believe she hooked up with Kyle Cooke in NYC last week as reported by @bravoandcocktails...ALLEGEDLY!The discussion also touches on the need for redemption arcs among male cast members and the future of reality TV spinoffs, particularly in the context of the Bachelor franchise. Will Taylor Frankie Paul connect more with Tayshia or Kaitlyn's advice in the new special coming out. ALL ROAD LEAD BACK TO BRAVO...OR BACHELOR as I like to say. This is the true story of seven strangers picked to live in a house, work together, and have their lives taped. Find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real…. The Real World. Eric Nies steps Behind The Rope. Mr. Eric Nies was part of the granddaddy of all of reality TV, the original Real World, New York, Season One. THE show that changed, introduced, formed and revolutionized Reality TV. With no prior reality show to look to, we discuss how that makes the Real World, New York, Season One possibly the most authentic reality TV show ever. Eric discusses his hesitations to do certain things not knowing how the final product would turn out and the influence of producers and editing back then. Eric discusses what MTV was like back in the day when it played music all day and how he thought the Real World would maybe be a little show that a few people watched. On that note, we talk about how life suddenly changed once the show aired and became a blockbuster of supreme magnitude. We discuss his house mates Julie, Norman, Heather, Kevin, Becky and Andre and who he keeps in touch with today. He explains how once the Real World ended he was offered the gig as host of Club MTV, which led to MTV's The Grind (also featuring a pre RHOBH Camille Grammer), which led to The Grind Workout Videos, which led to a long career as both a Competitor and Host of the classic MTV juggernaut The Challenge. He had movie offers, modeling offers and who could forget that Bruce Weber photoshoot book he was in with his brother (Google It). Being the hot commodity in town, no one said no. Money, fame, booze, drugs, women, anything at his fingertips that he wanted, Eric seemingly had it all. Until he didn't. With an addictive personality, Eric finally hit rock bottom and had his “aha" moment when he realized he needed to transform his life. Eric and David discuss the aftermath of being in the spotlight, how fame is possibly the most addictive drug of all, the highs and lows of the entertainment business and how to navigate it successfully and come out the other side. @nies.eric @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS & AD FREE EPISODES Available at - www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope BROUGHT TO YOU BY: GROW THERAPY - GrowTherapy.com/VELVET (Whatever Challenges You're Facing, Grow Therapy Is Here To Help QUINCE - quince.com/velvetrope (Get Free Shipping and 365 Day Returns to As You Indulge In Affordable Luxury) MOOD - www.mood.com/velvet (20% Off With Code Velvet on Federally Legal THC Shipped Right To Your Door) ADVERTISING INQUIRIES - Please contact David@advertising-execs.com MERCH Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 Learn more about your ad choices.
