Godsmack frontman Sully Erna was inspired to create the Scars Foundation after experiencing a string of losses that hit close to home. Sully called WMMR to talk to Sara about why he felt compelled to give back, and what the Scars Foundation will do to shine a light to mental health, addiction and other issues.  Sully also told us about meeting Neil Peart, incorporating new sounds into the latest Godsmack album When Legends Rise, and how the songs he wrote 20 years ago have taken on new meanings over time. Hard Rock icons Godsmack have had a hard time recently - after the unexpected death of guitarist Tony Rombola's son, they had to postpone their planned European tour. Now they're back on stage - in our exclusive interview, we talked to singer Sully Erna about the tour, how the band members feel, the album "When Legends Rise" and their first ballad "Under your Scars", a song that inspired them to start the "Scars foundation", a place of refuge for people that suffer from depression and other mental health issues.

When Legends Rise is the seventh studio album by Godsmack. It was released on April 27, 2018. It marks the band's first album away from heavy metal into a more hard rock sound. The album's first single, "Bulletproof", was released ahead of the album in February 2018. The album's name, When Legends Rise, and release date, April 27, 2018, were announced on February 28, 2018. The band released the first single, "Bulletproof", on the same date, and as of April 2018, had peaked an number two on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart. The title track "When Legends Rise" was released as a single on April 13. In addition, the song was used as a theme song for WWE’s Greatest Royal Rumble event.
