This week, we're scratching The Itch for a homecoming! Itch guests Dorothy and her guitarist, our fellow St Louisian Sam Bam Koltun, played at The Hawthorn with Cory Marks, and The Itch had to be there! J-Bunny sits down with Lee Richards of the bands Another Animal and Richards/Crane, and formerly of Godsmack and Dropbox before his appearance with Revel at Dusk at The Stanhope House. Lee talks a bit about his time in Godsmack and how finding out he had a son caused him to leave the band, and how that led him to joining Dropbox years later. Lee also clears up the origins of the Godsmack song "Touché" and the material on the Another Animal album, the origins of the how Another Animal then led to the Richard/Crane project, and some of his future plans in music. Podcast intro "Rock Intro 3" courtesy of audionautix.com. "Broken Again" is first single from the self-titled Another Animal album, and "Touché" was the second single from the Godsmack EP The Other Side. Both songs were included with the permission of Lee Richards.

Ever since then, they've dropped a very “meh” album in From Zero and played a long list of shows all over the world. With their new single “Up From the Bottom” out now and their North American tour coming up soon, it seems interest in seeing the Chester Bennington-less version of the band has begun to wane. In this episode, I chat with Canadian Country artist Cory Marks. Being a huge fan, I was excited to talk to Cory about his life before music, and the artists who inspired him along the way. Chatting about his love of aviation and a scary moment up in the air. How some of the biggest hits of his career came together with the biggest names in rock and metal, like Sully Erna of Godsmack, Tyler Connolly of Theory, Ivan Moody of 5FDP, Mick Mars of Motley Crue and more. We play a game with his song titles…talk about his fiancé and grandpa, and even get a Trailer Park boys impression and even got him to sing a few of his favorite Merle Haggard lyrics. #albumbespechung #albumrezension #rezension #rockcast #podcast #rockmusik #hardrock #southernrock #redwhiteblue #godsmack #lightingupthesky #sullyerna #wellenbrecherbereich
This week a continuation of our series called “In The Shadow Of…”, where we compare obscure bands to a mainstream act. This is not about copycats, but more about artists with similar vibes, sharing a sonic landscape, or whose songwriting and playing styles are sympatico. This is another band that is near and dear to both of you humble hosts. A band whose unique harmonies and awesome riffs inspired both hosts to pick up guitars and start singing; the amazing Seattle grunge gods ALICE IN CHAINS! Join us as we discover other bands influenced and inspired by AIC's revolutionary game-changing music. What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This is not a statement about bands trying to copy one another, but more that they have a shared sound and vision. It's been said that there is no originality left in rock n' roll and it has also been stated that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. As always, we hope we turn you onto something new!Songs this week include:Cicadastone – “Dime A Dozen” from Cold Chamber (2021)A Pale Horse Named Death – “Heroin Train” from And Hell Will Follow Me (2011)Drain STH – “Serve The Shame (acoustic)” from Horror Wrestling (1998)EMBASSYROWE – “Volition” from Dreamliar (2024)Failure – “Let It Drip” from Magnified (1994)Seventh Void – “Shadow On Me” from Heaven Is Gone (2009)My Sister's Machine – “Wasting Time” from Diva (1992)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://x.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/inobscuria/og-shopCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

Cory Marks is a Canadian country-influenced hard rock singer, but he was doing it before the names Hardy and Jelly Roll were mainstays on the rock charts. As his new album Sorry For Nothing hits the streets and the streams, I caught up with the Outlaws and Outsiders singer in between acoustic gigs opening for Theory of A Deadman. His story starts like most Canadians, on the ice, then to the air, and now to rock and roll stardom.
What The Riff?!? makes another scary trip down the Halloween rabbit hole with these theme songs, movie and TV music, and rock songs with a bent towards the macabre. We hope you enjoy this third edition of "Halloween" from What the Riff?!? Highway to Hell by AC/DC The opening track to the 1979 album of the same name features Bon Scott on his last album as lead singer of the group before his untimely death. The name of the song was inspired by the group's gruesome touring schedule.Shout at the Devil by Motley Crue The Crue's 1983 breakthrough album of the same name would establish them as one of the most successful metal bands of the 80's. The song was controversial, with many believing that it encouraged devil worship, though the lyrics themselves do not explicitly do so.Disarm by The Smashing Pumpkins Off their breakout album "Siamese Dream," this song references "the killer in me is the killer in you" is inspired by Billy Corgan's contemplation of his negligent parents and suicide. The lyrics "cut that little child" caused the song to be banned by the BBC.Demons by Imagine Dragons This song off Imagine Dragons' major label debut studio album became their second top 10 single. It is really not about demons in the Halloween sense, but more the tragedies of life like abuse, PTSD, and mental illness.Voodoo by Godsmack The third single from Godsmack's self-titled debut album was inspired by Wes Craven's film “The Serpent and the Rainbow.” This song became Dave Bautista's theme song as Leviathan when he was in the WWE. Mommy's Little Monster by Social Distortion The title track from Social Distortion's debut album tells a horror tale of a kid becoming a punk rocker. It is another song about dealing with personal demons rather than the supernatural. Witch Wolf by Styx Early in their career Styx put out this song to lead off their third album, “The Serpent is Rising.” James Young takes lead vocal duties on this song that tells about a person accursed by a creature called the witch wolf, and night rider.Dragula by Rob Zombie The lead single from Rob Zombie's debut album may be his biggest hit. The audio clip at the beginning of the song is taken from the 1960 horror film “The City of the Dead.” The name comes from the TV sitcom "The Munsters," where Grandpa Munster has a dragster called "Drag-u-la."The theme to the TV series "Twilight Zone" This menagerie of bizarre tales from the early days of TV still has staying power in our sci-fi culture. Sympathy for the Devil by the Rolling Stones Mick Jagger walks us through a discussion with Old Scratch himself in this well-known classic from the Stones' catalogue. The idea is a narrative from Satan's point of view as he reviews historical events. That Old Black Magic by Frank Sinatra Old Blue Eyes gave us this romantic song with a Halloween bent. It was a jazz classic originally written in 1942 with lyrics penned by Johnny Mercer. Love is "that old black magic" in this tune.Night of the Vampire by Roky Erickson From this cult classic album "The Evil One," this song is one of a plethora of horror-oriented tracks on the album. Erickson spent a significant amount of time in mental institutions. The Kill (Bury Me) by Thirty Seconds to Mars Jared Leto, front man for the group (and perhaps better known as an actor today), has said this song is about the relationship you have with yourself, and confronting the dark side of who you are.Take Me to Church by Hozier This haunting hit song compares falling in love with a kind of death, and compares the lover to a kind of religion. “They're the Toto of metal…” In keeping with the Halloween centric theme of October, obviously we've got to talk about “devil music”, and what better band to represent “the devil stuff” than GHOST, who's not at all bashful about their utilization of Satan for inspiration. Imagine the mysteriousness of Blue Oyster Cult, but “kinda more metal, and sorta satanic a little bit”. While not overtly hateful or evil per se (as far as “devil music” goes), there is certainly a dark, otherworldly, and strangely hypnotic aesthetic to GHOST. With music containing powerful melodies & catchy hooks and lyrics incorporating a liberal infusion of “the devil stuff” (not to mention the eerie imagery, including a satanic pope and several Nameless Ghouls), listeners may experience a “flavor clash” from the resulting sonic incongruity as the music of GHOST is “kinda happyish but their lyrics are the exact opposite.” Before engaging in anything remotely fun (especially if it includes a third wheel), be sure “the math is right” ahead of time and remember that the formula is “half your age plus 7” (either way). Go ahead and crack open a can of “coconut key lime pie” and understand that even though we may have to “Ixnay on the Its-tay”, realize that Baphomet definitely has some “strong C's” and JOIN US as we go INSIDE THE METAL with the mysteriously mesmerizing sounds of Linkoping, Sweden's GHOST. This is a special Riff Fest wrap-up. Before the bands took to the stage of Pine Knob, they spoke with me. I spoke with Sully from Godsmack, Cullen of Sleep Theory, Cody and Briton of Wage War, James and Sam from Asking Alexandria, and Dale from Seether. A huge thank you to each of the bands for talking with me and taking the time to meet with WRIF listeners beforehand. One of the great things about my job is that I get to share these experiences with people who otherwise wouldn't get the chance.

You know Jason Hook as the guitarist of Five Finger Death Punch. A few years ago Jason left Five Finger and instead of joining another band in need of his services he ventured out and did his own thing, that thing is called Flat Black. Their debut album is called Dark Side of the Brain and is available now. The sound is heavy, melodic, and in your face. If you've ever enjoyed his playing than Flat Black is something you need to be checking out. Their touring activities start this weekend with Godsmack and Nothing More.

Send us a Text Message.Scotty Austin isn't your ordinary or average run-of-the-mill rock star. With a remarkable track record playing across the United States, as well as being a multi-instrumentalist in numerous genres, it is clear he has a unique perspective when it comes to creating music. Hailing from Parsons, Tennessee, his interest in various instruments started at a young age when he began reading music in kindergarten while also gaining experience in the family band at church. By the late 90s, Scotty began expanding on his knowledge of music genres and branching out to multiple styles such as percussion and classical guitar performance before earning his spot as the band leader of the official NASCAR Rolling Thunder band for an entire season. His accomplishments continued when around the early 2000s, he won fourth place in the world during the International Blues Contest while representing Memphis, Tennessee. Shortly after, Scotty collaborated with a new original group and recording artist, Ash Bowers, along with Jason Aldean's label, Broken Bow Records, as well as the sister label, Stoney Creek Records. It wasn't long until Scotty decided to start his own original project, an indie rock band called Trash the Brand. He had wanted to record and play songs that he had written but never had the chance to play. Within weeks of forming, he was playing to packed houses and venues which in turn caught the attention of a few people in the music industry. Soon Scotty found himself in contact with Jeff Hanson (manager of Creed and Saving Abel), who offered to manage him. While negotiating, he asked Hanson to put him on the show with Saving Abel that was happening that weekend in Memphis. He was given the opening spot for the concert. A few days after the show, Scotty was asked to front Saving Abel in which he accepted and has since been with for over 8 years. Scotty Austin has used his natural talent and ear for distinct sounds to produce expressive song lyrics and music throughout his chttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. Stitched Up Heart bass player Randy Mathias and actor/comedian Rosalee Mayeux joined Mark and Nicole for a fast and funny show Randy has known Mark and Nicole for a long time through the LA Goth scene and talks about his journey from forming bands with former members of Marilyn Manson and Dead Kennedys, to his being in legendary goth band London After Midnight (where he ran onstage in Germany in a thong) to joining Stitched Up Heart and going from touring in a cramped van, to playing barns in Louisiana, to playing on cruise ships, opening for Godsmack and Steel Panther to performing in festivals worldwide (including a recent one where due to weather they headlined in lieu of Guns N Roses). Sorry about the Audio- Beef and Rum Daddy had issues :/ Following the release of The Matrix in 1999, Hollywood saw an explosion of martial arts-focused action movies. Riding that wave was Chinese actor Jet Li, who made his first American-made film debut in Lethal Weapon 4 and went on to star in Kiss of the Dragon, Romeo Must Die and this dimension-hopping cop movie. Starring as both the hero and villain - the last two variants who have absorbed the energy from their murdered counterparts - Li faces off against himself with Jason Statham, Delroy Lindo, and Carla Gugino rounding out the cast. The film also tapped into a modern rock sound with Disturbed, Drowning Pool, Godsmack, and Papa Roach. Directed by James Wong and co-written by Wong with Glen Morgan, the film was neither a box office nor critical hit. While it may be the best of the Matrix variants in this universe, in the end there can be only The One!
