It is with heavy hearts that we deliver this week's episode honoring the passing of a guitar hero giant who also happened to be an awesome singer and songwriter: John Sykes. He was a guitarist deserving of the title guitar god who rarely got mentioned in the same circles as the Satches, Vais, Rhodes, and Van Halens. Most known for his brief stint in Thin Lizzy at the end of their career and as a brief member of Whitesnake. He should have been a household for playing on the Whitesnake 87 album that sold 25M records worldwide, but he was fired before it came out. Kevin's a huge fan of Blue Murder, so we will focus on that band and some of the lesser-known projects he was involved in while also paying homage to his mainstream successes. New to InObscuria? Typically, what we do is exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Rest In Peace John. Your pure musicality and amazing songs will live forever in our hearts!Songs this week include:Blue Murder – “We All Fall Down” from Nothin' But Trouble (1993)Streetfighter – “She's No Angel” from Lightnin' To The Nations: NWOBHM 25th Anniversary Collection (2005)Tygers Of Pan Tang – “Blackjack” from Spellbound (1981)John Sykes – “Pride And Joy” from Crossfire: A Salute To Stevie Ray (1996)Derek Sherinian – “God Of War” from Mythology (2004)Thin Lizzy – “Cowboy Song” from One Night Only (2000)John Sykes – “Cautionary Warning” from 20th Century (1997)Blue Murder – “Still Of The Night” from Screaming Blue Murder: Dedicated To Phil Lynott (1994)Blue Murder – “Jelly Roll” from Screaming Blue Murder: Dedicated To Phil Lynott (1994)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/
This week we respectfully welcome back to the show Slamfest Podcast host: Mad Brad Rusthoven. He has called us out on a grave mistake of not having played Black Country Communion on any of our recent New Wave Of Classic Rock episodes. Therefore, we give you “Grave Mistakes: BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION Shoulda Been Huge”… scratch that: Should BE Huge!!! Celebrate this amazing supergroup with us. Apologies for a little hiss and background noise in the episode (our crack staff must have been smoking crack again). This episode is rooted in our Should Have Been category. This is a band that we mentioned before on the show and played an offshoot band from them. They contain some household names in classic blues and rock and have a hell of a pedigree, but unfortunately, their brilliance has yet to be recognized to the degree that it truly deserves. This is the bastard child of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin for the love of Lemmy! We think they SHOULD BE HUGE… Songs this week include:Black Country Communion - “Beggarman” from Black Country Communion (2010)Black Country Communion - “The Outsider” from 2 (2011)Black Country Communion - “The Great Divide” from Live Over Europe (2012)Black Country Communion - “Midnight Sun” from Afterglow (2012)Black Country Communion - “Sway” from BCCIV (2017)Black Country Communion - “Stay Free” from V (2024)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

Greetings everyone! I am excited to bring you episode 2 of this podcast because we now get started talking to guests and in this episode, I sit down with a legend in rock and roll, Billy Sheehan. It helps that I am in the band Mr. Big because I get to hang out with Billy almost every day on the road and finding a time to record this podcast was not too difficult. Billy has done just about everything there is to do in the music business. From his early days back in Buffalo, New York with his band Talas, being in David Lee Roth's first band right after he left Van Halen, to starting Mr Big and having a number 1 hit record. Plus fantastic other bands like The Winery Dogs, Sons Of Apollo, Niacin, and more. He has thousands of gigs under his belt, he has toured the world many times, he's made tons of records, and recorded for tons of artists, he is an educator and a real student of the craft. Nobody plays the bass like Billy Sheehan and he knows what it takes to make a life in music. Cheers
This week, we look at the debut album from supergroup Sons Of Apollo. The band features current and former members of Dream Theater, Mr. Big, Journey and Guns 'n Roses. This week is another star-studded episode of the InObscuria Podcast where we get songs and stories from the road. We had the opportunity to chat with the one and only Eric Martin from Mr. Big! He is a ball of pure energy and an amazing storyteller. We even get a Madonna story out of him that he's never shared before! Come discover more about Mr. Big and their final tour, The Eric Martin Band, soundtracks, duets, covers, and more!Wondering what this show is all about? We exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and place them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Kevin and Robert were both excited to have the opportunity to chat with Eric about the amazingly talented Mr. Big. We weren't sure what we were in for when Eric sat down, and what we got was a hilarious and engaged guest that just happens to be huge in Japan (not to mention the awesome pipes in a band of some of the most talented players on the planet)! Songs this week include:Eric Martin – “Mission” from Working Man – A Tribute To Rush (1996)Eric Martin – “Spaceman” from I'm Goin' Sane (2003)Eric Martin / Mr. Big – “One Way Out” from Caddyshack II – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (1988)Eric Martin Band – “Sucker For A Pretty Face” from Sucker For A Pretty Face (1983)TMG – “Trapped” from TMG I (2004)Jeff Scott Soto – “Mysterious (featuring Eric Martin)” from The Duets Collection, Vol. 1 (2021) Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/
Always great to catch up with Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal. The dude is a beast on the guitar and a creative force! We talked about a project he did with Sons of Apollo bandmate, Derek Sherinian. He talked about playing with Queen's Brian May. "Such a wonderful guy, yeah." He went onto say "There's nothing not to love about that guy!" The reason for the conversation was about his band, The Art of Anarchy, and their upcoming third album. The new album drops next February, called Let There Be Anarchy. The story of how this latest album started is a crazy one. Bumble talked about the severe health challenges that faced guitarist Jon Votta, to the point where he was literally dying. That story is unreal! He told me that they have about two albums worth of music written. He also talks about recruiting Jeff Scott Soto to the band. Of course, he is in S.O.A. with JSS, so it was an easy transition. "We have years of working together." Ron said. He told me about the video for their first single, Vilified, which you can see below. Cube Gooding Jr. is in the video, along with Geoff Tate narrating (which is killer). He said that video has a real "Joker" vibe to it on purpose, including the band playing on the famous stairway from the movie. How did they get those two guys on the video? "We asked!" Easy enough. He went on to talk about what the rest of the album sounds like, including a track with a guitar solo from Alex Skolnick. As far as other things he's working on, he's got a solo album he'll be dropping. Plus, he's working with and producing a band called The Dodies. What's going on with Sons Of Apollo? He answered that. He also talked about his style of producing, and how he approaches the studio. During the pandemic, he mentioned that he would probably not tour anymore. Has he changed his mind on that? Always fun to talk with one of the true good dudes in this business, as well as one of the most talented guys I know. -Meltdown-

S6E18 of The Story of Rock and Radio Show kicked off on Star Wars Day i.e. May the Fourth, live on Rebel Rock radio at 7:00 PM show started off with the old favorites Judas Priest of the 1986 album Turbo. There were some great pairings on this episode; we checked out Sons of Apollo back to back with Bristol band Sons of Liberty, and we put Rush and Mastodon together and heard 'Subdivisions' and ‘The Beast' respectively. We also went to Germany and played Accept (winner of last week's Ultimate Challenge) and Rammstein who has been neglected on TSORR of late. We looked at 1986 for the Ultimate Challenge. The UC is a look at four albums from a particular year. This week it was Van Halen - 5150, Metallica - Master of Puppets, Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet, and Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time. On the Immortals we featured a track by Steve Winwood off the amazing album Arc of the Diver. The track was 'Night Train', and as I recall Steve played all the instruments himself. We had a big scoop this week where we got to play another track off the brand new (Released 5 May) Deadline album Vitriol Inc, we heard 'Codebreaker' and the other big news was we played Philistine's debut track called 'Blue Train'. Philistine is Dean Smith and Marq Vas, both stalwarts of SA Metal through bands like Metalmorphosis and Ragnarok. Theo Crous produced this masterpiece. Artists featured: Judas Priest, Glenn Hughes, Ted Nugent, UFO, Status Quo, Q5, Guns ‘n' Roses, Nazareth, Jimi Hendrix, Rush, Mastodon, Sons of Apollo, Sons of Liberty, Accept Rammstein, Shinedown, Soundgarden, ACDC, Airbourne, Oasis, Sex Pistols, Stiff Little Fingers, KISS, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Steve Winwood, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Philistine, Deadline, Overkill, Dave Hause The Story of Rock and Roll. Talas, UFO, DLR, Steve Vai, The Winery Dogs, Sons Of Apollo, Mr. Big- The Billy Sheehan#bassguitar #billysheehan #mrbig #stevevai Billy Sheehan has changed the way bass guitar is played. Rising to cult status in the 80's with his Buffalo, NY based band Talas, Billy was recruited by David Lee Roth when Roth left Van Halen in '85. He recorded two platinum selling albums with the former Van Halen front man before setting out on his own. Forming Mr. Big in 1989, the band achieved a Billboard #1 single in the US and 14 other countries with "To Be With You" from their 2nd Atlantic Records album release "Lean Into It". While developing his trademark style of playing he has performed over 4000 live gigs on every continent except Africa and Antarctica.Website: http://www.billysheehan.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/billysheehanonbass/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100044426979764Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/billy-sheehan-7b19136/Twitter: https://twitter.com/billyonbassThanks for tuning in, please be sure to click that subscribe button and give this a thumbs up!!Email: thevibesbroadcast@gmail.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/listen_to_the_vibes_/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thevibesbroadcastnetworkLinktree: https://linktr.ee/the_vibes_broadcastTikTok: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMeuTVRv2/Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheVibesBrdcstTruth: https://truthsocial.com/@KoyoteAnd Now!!! Brought to you by The Publicity Works Agency specializing in authors & musicians We shine only when We make you shine Call us today at 941-567-6193 Keyboardist Derek Sherinian has more than made a name for himself. After all, MusicRadar.com deemed him “A true shredder, his virtuoso playing has seen him dubbed the keyboard-playing version of Eddie Van Halen,” in 2020. Moreover, in 2021 he was voted Greatest Keyboardist Of The 21st Century, and the eighth Greatest of All Time by the same site, and Prog Magazine saw him voted the ninth Greatest Keyboardist Ever. But then you don't rack up a resumé such as his without some serious chops, having worked with the likes of Dream Theater, Black Country Communion, Billy Idol, Whitesnake - David Coverdale stating in 2020 “Derek plays like the son of Jon Lord”, - Kiss, current band Sons Of Apollo, and Alice Cooper - who in 1989 called him the “Caligula of keyboards”. The new studio album from world acclaimed keyboardist Derek Sherinian, ‘Vortex', is out now! On the new album Sherinian is once again joined by legendary drummer Simon Phillips, who co-wrote and co-produced the album, as well as Tony ‘The Fretless Monster' Franklin, on bass. Derek has this to say about the release of the album: “Simon and I have found the ultimate blend of rock, prog, and fusion on VORTEX, enjoy!” "VORTEX is one of this year's must-have records for musicians and fans of virtuoso rock." Says CLASSIC ROCK Please welcome revered keyboardist who has toured and recorded for Alice Cooper, Billy Idol, Joe Bonamassa, and as a member of Dream Theater, Planet X, KISS, Whitesnake and Sons of Apollo …the "Caligula of Keyboards" stated by Alice Cooper …. SKILLS: "an ability to do an activity or job well, especially because you have practiced it"In the perfect extension of the meaning of the word, SKILLS is an amazing new band put together from the vision of Frontiers President and A&R director Serafino Perugino. Featuring vocalist Renan Zonta, guitarist Brad Gillis, bassist Billy Sheehan, and drummer David Huff, Skills brings together the worlds of old and new in hard rock for a timeless debut album. As is everyone who has heard him sing, Perugino was blown away by the abilities of Brazilian singer Renan Zonta (Electric Mob, Brother Against Brother) upon first hearing him. Knowing how much Renan loves classic '80s hard rock, Perugino thought it would be cool to pair him with some monster players from that era. After sharing clips and music of Renan with some of the most outstanding musicians from the era, all of whom agreed that Renan's talent is undeniable, a new musical beast was born with Brad Gillis (Night Ranger), Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big, The Winery Dogs, Sons of Apollo), and David Huff (Giant) joining the fold.In Skills, you have a singer whose vocal range is stunning and can mix the extension and the power of the likes of Glenn Hughes and Sammy Hagar with the expression of Steven Tyler and some David Coverdale thrown in. On this episode we chat with The Dodies, a two piece garage rock duo from the southern desert of Israel. Yoni Avittan fronts the band as lead vocalist and guitarist, while Ran Aronson sings backing vocals while simultaneously playing bass lines on keyboard with one hand and playing the entire drum kit with the other. Their songs dive head-first into depression, alienation and rage, contrasted by hooky riffs and catchy melodies. In 2016 The Dodies self-recorded and independently released their first album, but soon after began working with renowned producers Ron ‘Bumblefoot' Thal (guitarist for Asia, Sons Of Apollo, ex-Guns N' Roses) and Matt Novesky (owner of Orb Studios in Austin, TX and former bassist of Blue October) The band has since performed shows in New York City, Los Angeles and Austin, TX. It's One Hell of a Ride was released in 2020. The first single, "Boiling Point", was accompanied by a quirky and fun music video (produced by Monster Filmmakers) that shows a lighter side of the band. The animated video for "Alien" (filmed and edited by Eden Zemer with original artwork by Jenny Vasiutin and Yoni Avittan) followed a few months after. In this week's episode, we bow down as low as we can get to the almighty bass guitar heroes! The heart of rock n' roll is the rhythm and this week we explore some of the most amazing low-frequency providers. How do they make such wonderful noise with metal wires on a piece of wood? This subject holds a very special place in Kevin's heart, as he tries very hard to play the same instrument that we are praising this week. What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss all three.
