If we would see what the blessed life looks like, we have to look with the eyes of faith.
What is the difference between a disciple and an apostle? Why does Jesus heal diseases when he could do anything from creating a zebra, to causing the audience to grow six inches, to giving everyone a million dollars? What does it mean to receive the kingdom of God?These are the questions we ask Dr. Chris Croghan as we break down the blessings and the woes in this week's lectionary text on the Beatitudes. Dr. Croghan emphasizes how we are favored by God because he has given us his Word. This isn't something general. This is a specific promise, given to you. You have God's grace. We all may come from different places, have differing experiences, and be at various points along the continuum of poverty and wealth. Yet, we are all human and we are all in this life together. In Luke 6:17-26, Jesus lists a series of blessings and woes. It shocks his listeners because the lists should be flipped - the blessings should be considered woes and the woes considered blessings. Clearly, Jesus is intentional in calling out what the world considers an earthly accomplishment is not truly an eternal accomplishment. Listen in to hear more.

This week's sermon is centered on the Sermon on the Plain from Luke 6:17-26, with a focus on empathy and compassion. Quick note: I was unable to be in worship due to the illness, so the audio comes from a recording of the sermon I took on Thursday February 14th for another project and for my preparation. Don't worry, I am feeling much better.
What do our feelings have to do with Jesus’ blessings and woes from Luke 6.17-26? How do our feelings affect our everyday walk with Jesus? Father Jeremiah brings before us the importance of the whole Word of God in regard to how we allow our feelings to be our guides in life too easily. Focusing on externalized religion instead of personal relationship with God has always been a hindrance and stumbling block to God's people. Join us today as we look at what Jesus had to say about focusing more on the employee handbook than on our job description.
Do you want to know the blessing of God on your life? If so, Jesus spells out what we need to do. But he doesn’t go along with conventional wisdom. He takes everything we’re taught to believe and turns it completely on its head. If we can get past the shocking nature of his words, they have the power to totally transform our lives.
