Ep 260 “The CottageCore AR-15” – National Gun Violence Awareness Month (Bullet Poof Bulletins) Celebrating the launch of eco-fiction anti-gun novella Bullet Poof and National Gun Violence Awareness Month, Avis Kalfsbeek brings back beloved Kitty O'Compost with the Bullet Poof Bulletins. Tonight on the Spoke-Easy stage, Kitty O'Compost deconstructs a truly bizarre update from the suburban backyard horticultural circuit. This bulletin satirizes an absolute logistical stir on Magnolia Lane, where a resident attempted a social experiment by bringing a highly customized rifle platform—the CottageCore AR-15—to a neighborhood garden club meeting. Refinished in matte sage green with hand-painted floral engravings and a custom tweed shoulder strap, the weapon was placed right next to heirloom tomato seedlings in an effort to launder an industry of fear by wrapping it in a cozy Pinterest aesthetic. Inspired by the grounding, collaborative themes of Bullet Poof, this episode laughs at this astonishing piece of self-delusion and reminds us that true safety is found when we stop investing in the profit of pain and start building relaxed community connection. Tonight on the Spoke-Easy stage, Kitty O'Compost breaks down a leaked corporate rebranding strategy that attempts to launder military hardware with a rustic aesthetic. Inspired by the grounding, transformative themes of Bullet Poof, this episode laughs at the corporate attempt to camouflage violence with artisanal style and points us back to the real heritage found in creative community spaces. More songs about hot rods, hard times, outlaws and missing your baby. Do we really need a new Social Distortion record in 2026? Maybe not but if we were gonna get one, we could have done a lot worse than Born to Kill. Mike, Rod & Glenn reconvene to discuss their history with the band, how Social D's music has endured over the years and how the new record holds up against their classic material. He also discusses the huge impact bands like blink-182, Pennywise and Less Than Jake had on the festival's rise and its lasting influence on alternative music culture. In the intro, Chris and Nick look ahead to this weekend's Slam Dunk Festival, discussing the bands they're most excited to see, while also chatting about new music from Social Distortion and Brian Fallon. The “covers” folder is full. Overfull, to be honest. So tonight’s show is a supersized show of great remakes, and many of them are quite surprising. The Tubs covering Metallica? Social Distortion doing Chris Isaak? White Fence remaking Simply Red? The Hollywood Stars retaking their own song back from Kiss? Hell, even Ty Segall’s version of The Doors could be considered a surprise. There are also quite a few more conventional remakes here tonight, but each and every one is what the kids today call a “banger”. (Oof, remind me to never use that term again.) I’m sure any Ledge listener will find a favorite. What’s your highlight? For more info, including setlists, head to http://scotthudson.blogspot.com

Bassist Greg Norton was the George Harrison of the mighty Husker Du. While alpha's Bob Mould and Grant Hart competed for album space and song excellence, Greg remained a loyal soldier in the background playing his part well. When the band broke up in the late 80s, he changed careers and became a chef for a while. Finally in the last few years, a musical project has come along that's deserving of his massive talent - the all-star punk band Ultrabomb. The supergroup (members of Social Distortion and Soul Asylum round it out) just released their third album, The Bridges That We Burn which easily rivals anything their original bands released. Greg discusses his post-Husker Du years and his thoughts on those years and the history of Ultrabomb. We're lucky to hear from him. Enjoy! www.patreon.com/c/thehustlepod www.ultrabomb.bandcamp.com

This week we're talking to Mike Ness who has led SoCal punk icons Social Distortion since 1978. The band just released Born to Kill which is their first album in 15 years. A few weeks ago, Captain Content threw down a challenge to find great new music, and Kevin didn't just step up—he delivered in spades. Typically, we recognize all of the amazing recorded output of the current year at the end of the year; however, there are just too many great releases this year to wait until December. We're not even halfway through the year yet, and we already have all of these great tunes! Who was that said rock n' roll was dead??? What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show, Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection: an artist, album, or grouping of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week, we look at an amazing year of releases for the world of rock n' punk n' metal. We hope we turn you onto something new! Songs this week include: Starcrazy - “Prove Myself” from Prove Myself - Single (2026) The Gems - “Stars” from Year Of The Snake (2026) Bakko - “Do It For Me” from Another Sign Of The Decline (2026) Sugar - “Long Live Love” from Long Live Love - Single (2026) Tigercub - “Fall In Fall Out” from Nets To Catch The Wind (2026) Jane And The Killer Queens - “Dumb Blonde” from Dumb Blonde - Single (2026) Metal Church- “Deep Cover Shakedown” from Dead To Rights (2026) Elder - “Through Zero” from Through Zero (2026) Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts! Never heard of Reacharound? You're not alone, which is a shame, because this band of UK expats playing punked-up rockabilly and 60s Kinks and Who influenced garage rock deserved your attention. Their only album, 1996's Who's Tommy Cooper? is a charming, straight-up rock album with enough variety to keep fans of Reverend Horton Heat, Social Distortion, or The Living End interested.
