This Week on The Hudson Valley Disc Golf Podcast: Corey, Alex, Randy, Evan, Jaimen, Tim and Erich join to recap the last week in Disc Golf. We go over all of the local leagues from the past week and Evan revisits last week's DisCap October Monthly @ Dove Creek, though his credentials as a reporter are questioned. We go over the Final results from the Summer Battle Royale in the AM division and Corey gives a recap of the Pro Final. Alex played the Ghoul's Fest at FDR and recounts his round. In New England Team Challenge action, The DisCaptains hosted Devil's Grove @ JPark. Jaimen and Corey talk about matchups and their rounds. Meanwhile the Lemonheads had their first ever, or inaugural, match in Massachusetts against Flatrock. We hear from Evan, Tim and Erich about the day and how it doesn't bother Erich in the slightest that he didn't pay into the Ace Pot. And because a team challenge match wasn't enough, Corey gives us insight into his round and the lead card action at Montgomery County and DisCap present The Blues at Burbine V driven by Innova. We finished it up with a Round of Disc or No Disc.Support the showSpecial Thanks to our Patreon Supporters: Branden Cline, Tim Goyette, Peter Hodge, Ryan Nelson, Kevin T. Sieben Jahre ist es her, seit die Londoner Songwriterin («Fuck You», «Smile») ein Album veröffentlichte.

Heute bringen The Lemonheads ihr 11. „It's About Time“, dass bei Stereo.Typen mal The Lemonheads geehrt werden. Zusammen mit Achim Launert, Fan (fast) der ersten Stunde. Evan Dando selbst erzählt von seinem Weg von Bostons No.1 Punk-Club Channel ins Chateau Marmont in Hollywood und von da aus in die Abwesenheit. Fast parallel zum neuen Album legte er Anfang des Monats seine Memoiren „Rumours of My Demise“ vor, über die wir auch sprechen in #112TheLemonheads – jetzt beim Obsthändler Eures Vertrauens.

In RUMORS OF MY DEMISE: A Memoir (Gallery Books hardcover; October 7, 2025), Evan Dando sets the record straight on everything the media got wrong, divulges stories never-before-told, and shares a treasure trove of personal photos never-before-seen. The publication coincides with the October 24th release of Love Chant, the Lemonheads first original album in nearly two decades, with a U.S. tour beginning on November 11th. After Kurt Cobain's passing in 1994, everyone expected Evan Dando to be next. The Lemonheads front man, songwriter and actor started in the '80s hardcore scene and went on to become a '90s icon. Think of Evan Dando, and you think of heroin chic, grunge, and celebrity burnout. Perhaps known as much for his partying and boyish good looks, after two gold records and the kind of fame that you just can't enjoy anymore, the Lemonheads cooled off and life went on.Dando grew up in Boston, the son of a lawyer and a model, and attended the prestigious Commonwealth School. Fame was never what motivated him but the lure of the wild life proved trickier to refuse. From sneaking into concerts as a child, to sleeping on floors in the punk rock days, to crashing at Johnny Depp's place in Hollywood, he was right there in the thick of it. So much so, that social media once reported his death. Now, very much alive and enjoying a life in South America when he's not on the road, Evan Dando tells his own story. RUMORS OF MY DEMISE reminds readers what was so great about the pre-internet '90s: the innocence, the access, and the anonymity. Reclaiming the purity and exuberance of his early days and encapsulating the spirit of the era, this candid autobiography presents a portrait of an artist who lives wholly for his music, and one that makes no apologies for doing so.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

It's new music for the month of October!  Jenn Tully fills in for Sam again this month alongside Matt Sidhom.  Together they built a mix that moves from David Byrne's question-rich groove with Ghost Train Orchestra and Hayley Williams to Florence and the Machine's roof-raising declaration of ambition, with plenty of discoveries and nostalgic detours in between. We kick off with What Is the Reason for It, a horn-lit, cinematic opener that doubles as a meditation on love's contradictions. From there, we bend time: Oasis reenters the chat via Don't Look Back in Anger and the 30th anniversary of What's the Story (Morning Glory), a reminder that remasters can be the best kind of rediscovery. Cold War Kids deliver a standout with Hyperempathy—maybe the most accurate song about a long-term couple's fight—before Electric Guest lifts the room with Play Your Guitar and its bassline-as-elevation. We even throw a glam-pop curveball with Foxy Shazam's You Know My Name featuring Corey Feldman, a surprisingly joyful MJ-inspired romp. The middle stretch balances comeback warmth and clever wordplay: Yellowcard's Better Days revisits the hooky honesty that made Ocean Avenue timeless, and Rainbow Kitten Surprise stitches fast-twitch lyrics to an easy, elastic groove. For elegant horror, The Last Dinner Party's This Is the Killer Speaking toggles between sinister verses and pop-bright choruses, while Sloan's Dream Destroyer blends 70s glam swagger with modern edge. We also wrestle with art versus artist through The Lemonheads' The Key of Victory, and tip our hat to familiar architecture with Arthur Buck's Fall in Love With Me, a pop-spooky echo of REM instincts with fresh attitude. We close on Florence and the Machine's One of the Greats, a soaring, razor-sharp statement about the cost and confidence of excellence—complete with a pointed critique of industry double standards. https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/sam-new-music-october-2025/pl.u-pm2jidKjlz1. This week, we examine the first half of the '80s to ask the question - which artists had the best run during that span? Bringing us the funny sugar in this episode is our friend Jack (where our fellow '60s music nerds at?!?). That's right, Jack Rabid, publisher/writer for The Big Takeover magazine and drummer for '80s New York hardcore band Even Worse and dreamy '90s indie band Springhouse is our Third Lad this week. And we had such a fab time that this one is a two parter! Part two will be dropping in a few days, so stay tuned... Springhouse released two albums of sparkling, melancholy guitar pop for Caroline Records in the early '90s - 1991's Land Falls and 1993's Postcards From The Attic. They were the first major label signed, nationally touring U.S. "shoegaze" band, with the 'Layers' video getting MTV airplay, and sharing stages with the likes of House of Love, The Chills, Psychedelic Furs, Belly, and the Lemonheads. In 2008, the band returned for a melodic, orchestral-pop masterpiece on Independent Project Records, From Now To OK. Originally released on limited edition CD only, it has now been reissued as a deluxe edition on vinyl, CD, and digital, and presented in a beautiful package from IPR co-owner/master designer Bruce Licher. https://springhouse.bandcamp.com The Big Takeover is a bi-annual music magazine founded by Jack Rabid and Dave Stein in May 1980, originally as a fanzine for New York punkers The Stimulators. 1994 proved to be one of the most fertile years for Beatles-inspired filmmaking. The titles of cinematic classics either directly about The Beatles (“The Secret Of Roan Inish”, “Blue Chips”) or clearly inspired by their music (“Ski School 2”, “Wesley Snipes' Sugar Hill”) were '94's dominant cultural and commercial hits. (Yeah, go ahead and f off, “The Air Up There”.) Perhaps the most notable fab film from that year was “Backbeat”, which focused primarily on Stuart Stucliffe's brief but incredibly/debatably important tenure as a Beatle. What does the film get right? What does it get terribly, offensively wrong? How do Beatles (and cinema, damn it) EXPERTS Tony & T.J. feel the film holds up on its' 31st anniversary? (Forgot about that milestone, huh, Calderstone/Polydor??) The Gab Two deep dish “Backbeat”, and more, including:

Ben Kweller's music first stole my heart back in the early oughts when he released his wonderful debut album Sha Sha, and I have been a huge admirer of his work ever since. I've also had the good fortune of his friendship for more than twenty years, so it was amazing to finally get together with him for the LSQ podcast. Episode 123 features a deep and poignant conversation with BK about his entire creative history, including his excellent latest album, Cover The Mirrors, which was written in the wake of the tragic death of his teenage son Dorian. In addition to sharing how that tremendous loss ended up inspiring him to reconnect with making music in the innocent way he'd done as a kid, he details what those early creative years were like for him — writing Beatles-inspired love songs on the piano as a little kid, starting his band Radish after hearing Nirvana, hustling to get Radish their first shows at Chauncey's Place, a local billiards hall in Greenville, Texas, eventually getting rides from his parents to Dallas to play shows there, recording Radish's demos and the ensuing bidding war to sign them, and more. I was also fascinated to hear about his family connection to legendary guitarist Nils Lofgren of the E Street Band and Neil Young's Crazy Horse (as well as being a brilliant artist in his own right), and how Lofgren provided key support at multiple points during Ben's early days. And then we get into his moves toward stepping out on his own as an artist, including how support from the Lemonheads' Evan Dando helped catalyze his solo career. Ben also reminisces about the heyday of the New York City indie scene he was part of in the oughts, and how allyship with bands like the Strokes and Moldy Peaches and Kings of Leon (although not from NYC, the Kings regular touring companions of Ben's and honorary NYC scenesters) created a vital support system. On more recent topics, Ben reveals that Radish's lost sophomore album, Discount Fireworks, which includes early versions of songs like “Wasted & Ready” and “Harriet's Got A Song,” will finally be coming out via his own label, The Noise Company. He also talks about the work he's been doing recently to collaborate with Jason Schwartzman (who is among the guests on Cover The Mirrors) to record new music for Schwartzman's long-dormant band Coconut Records.

We also talk about how big of a role college radio had to do with the start of this chart in the first place, and how other upstart charts like The Hard Report and CMJ strived to highlight alternative artists that weren't getting any love or notice from mainstream radio. We also take a look at some of the local artists that got a lot of visibility on the chart, including Boston's own The Lemonheads and their cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson" which I play towards the end of the cast.

Sour Patch Kids were the result of paying attention to the industry and the wants and delights of the world at large. And delivering what the people wanted. Dave Young: Welcome to the Empire Builders Podcast, teaching business owners the not-so-secret techniques that took famous businesses from mom and pop to major brands. Stephen Semple is a marketing consultant, story collector, and storyteller. I'm Stephen's sidekick and business partner, Dave Young. Before we get into today's episode, a word from our sponsor, which is, well, it's us, but we're highlighting ads we've written and produced for our clients. So, here's one of those. [Waulkie Feet Ad] Dave Young: Welcome to Empire Builders Podcast. Dave Young here, along with Stephen Semple. All Stephen told me for this episode is that he's excited about doing it because it's got a Canadian tie-in, but he didn't whisper the name of the company or anything into my ear as we counted down. Stephen Semple: I forgot to. Dave Young: Yeah. Stephen Semple: Oh, I forgot to. Dave Young: He just stood there looking at me. Stephen Semple: I'll tell you now, Sour Patch Kids. You know the candy? Dave Young: Sour Patch Kids. Oh, gosh. Are they the origin of all the little sour candies that are out now? Stephen Semple: It's always hard to say if they're the exact origin, but they were certainly one of the first ones that went big, for sure. Dave Young: And the candy was after most of my candy-eating days. So let's dive in. Stephen Semple: So you're trying to tell me you eat no candy now? None? Dave Young: Well, that's what the doctor says should be happening. But as a child, I'm just too old to devour a lot of Sour Patch Kids, I think. Tell me when this started. Stephen Semple: So the Sour Patch Kids started basically in the early 1970s, is kind of when they came out. It was a Canadian company, but the other thing is it didn't, first of all, start as Sour Patch Kids. It was actually first called Mars Men. And in 1985, they renamed it Sour Patch. Dave Young: Okay. I was adulting by then. Where did this start? Wait, Mars Men? Stephen Semple: Mars Men. Dave Young: Yeah, that's not a good name. Stephen Semple: No. So today, it's part of a big conglomerate, it's part of the Mondelēz Group, and it's estimated that there's about $248 million worth of Sour Patch Kids sold every year. So that's a lot of little kids. And it was started by a little Canadian company. There was a guy by the name of Frank Galatolie who was working at Jaret International, and he was admiring the American candy revolution, and he was the sales and marketing manager for Jaret. And what Jaret did was they were an importer of food that foreign transplants would like. So they would go out and they would find some sort of food that people from India would like and bring it in or from Poland and they would bring it in. So basically, they really specialized in this whole idea of finding foods that foreign transplants would like. Dave Young: Interesting. I like that idea. Stephen Semple: And he wanted to do a twist on gummy candy. So in 1920, Hans Riegel, in Germany, made the first gummy, and that was like a gummy bear. And they were really popular in Europe, but they weren't super popular here. And he didn't want to do a traditional sweet candy, and Halloween was really growing candy, and candy could now be found in different places, and all of this other stuff going on. And he also started to notice that there was an emergence of a different type of candy, like the Atomic Fireball came out and sour Lemonheads came out. So he was noticing that there was this desire for stuff that was not just sweet, and they were really the first to do this whole idea of sour and sweet. So they combined two acids, so it would be super sour and that super sour would drop off and then would come back as being sweet.

Three Questions, Three Drinks with Chris Mikolay

BIG, DIFFICULT, FASCINATING QUESTIONS (THAT WE'LL HAVE TO FACE IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE). It seems only fitting that Matt Jordan – with his genetically perfect beard – should assume command of the USS 3Q3D for a conversation that tackles the toughest bioethical questions of our not-at-all distant future. Joined as usual by Amanda Adams and Chris Mikolay, the group wastes no time discussing whether we ought to genetically enhance our children, the second and third order consequences of dramatically increasing lifespans, and whether it's a good idea to implant a computer chip in our heads to make us a whole lot smarter. The questions are as good as the drinks (and in this episode, the drinks are *chef's kiss*), and resulting conversation is so strong that it's hard to believe it wasn't held by superhumans from the future.      Drinks in this Episode: Last Word coctkail >> 3/4 ounce gin; 3/4 ounce green Chartreuse; 3/4 ounce maraschino liqueur; 3/4 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed; Garnish: brandied cherry (optional). Add the gin, green Chartreuse, maraschino liqueur and lime juice into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe glass and enjoy on your spaceship to Mars.  Sakura Sunrise cocktail >> 1 ½ ounce Roku gin; ½ ounce simple syrup; ¾ ounce grapefruit juice; ½ ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed; splash of St. Germain; 3 dashes Lavender bitters. Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a coupe. Enjoy it anywhere, but ideally at a fancy bar on the North Shore of Hawaii so you can humblebrag about it later during a podcast recording.  Lemon Drop cocktail >> 2 ounces vodka; 1/2 ounce triple sec; 1 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed; 1 ounce simple syrup. Garnish: sugar rim. Coat the rim of a cocktail glass with sugar and set aside (do this a few minutes ahead so the sugar can dry and adhere well to the glass). Add the vodka, triple sec, lemon juice and simple syrup to a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into the prepared glass, take a sip, and immediately declare how much you enjoyed Lemonheads as a kid.  If you've been enjoying the 3Q3D podcast, please subscribe and consider giving us a rating, a review, or sharing an episode with a friend. Follow our social sites here: Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/3drinkspodcast/?hl=en  Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/3Drinkspodcast

+++ PLAYLIST +++ · 22:54 – SAINT TERESA von DOVES · 22:48 – TO LIVE FOREVER IN A SKYLIT ROOM (EOMAC REMIX) von SUNDEN · 22:46 – CONFETTI von THE LEMONHEADS · 22:43 – BOUGAINVILLEA von TOBACCO CITY · 22:39 – ENDS MEET von PANDA BEAR · 22:36 – RODEO von SOPHIA KENNEDY · 22:32 – WEIGHT OF DESIRE von TENNIS · 22:28 – SADGIRL von LITANY · 22:24 – BIG JET PLANE von ANGUS & JULIA STONE · 22:21 – GOLDEN WOLF von DOPE LEMON · 22:18 – HÜ von ZÜRI WEST · 22:15 – CORAZÓN ADENTRO (ESCORPIO) von ASTROPICAL · 22:11 – ME PASA (PISCIS) von ASTROPICAL · 22:09 – THE NIGHT BEFORE von THE BLACK KEYS · 21:58 – SCHWARZE MAGIE von DIE HEITERKEIT · 21:54 – LEFT BEHIND von DROPKICK · 21:52 – ADORE von CHILD STAR · 21:48 – HAPPY HOUSE von SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES · 21:43 – I CAN'T IMAGINE (WHY YOU FEEL THIS WAY) von SHARON VAN ETTEN & THE ATTACHMENT THEORY · 21:37 – SOMETHIN' AIN'T RIGHT von SHARON VAN ETTEN & THE ATTACHMENT THEORY · 21:35 – EVER FALLEN IN LOVE (WITH SOMEONE YOU SHOULDN'T'VE) von BUZZCOCKS · 21:30 – INDIO von SHARON VAN ETTEN & THE ATTACHMENT THEORY · 21:23 – AND NOTHING IS FOREVER von THE CURE · 21:16 – TROUBLE von SHARON VAN ETTEN & THE ATTACHMENT THEORY · 21:12 – IDIOT BOX von SHARON VAN ETTEN & THE ATTACHMENT THEORY · 21:04 – EVERY TIME THE SUN COMES UP von SHARON VAN ETTEN
