Willie: A quarter of the year has passed, where has the time gone? We play catch-up with what games we have played, and talk about Patchwork: 10th Anniversary. Alexa: Next episode comes in 5 months! Willie: No! We're working on the schedule now, so next one won't be too far from now. Con season is coming up, so look forward to that!
Willie: Happy Holidays! In this late episode, we discuss games that would be great to play for the holidays! Because there's about 2-3 days until Christmas, so what better way to enjoy the season by playing some thematic board games? Alexa: "Happy Holidays! In this late episode..." I knew it would be years since our next one }:| Willie: Bah. Humbug.
Willie: Today, we catch up with games we played, and we talk about a board game based off of the video game (but not really based off the video game), Wilmot's Warehouse! It's an interesting game, despite my gripes with it. Alexa: We're still so slow. People are probably tired of our excuses now Also I want to play Wilmot's Warehouse again (The board game) Willie: Hopefully we're not TOO slow that we get a bad score. Right? Right? Ha hah! Hah!
Willie: Welcome in! We talk some more about recent boardgames, especially of the one play I finally gotten into of a Hollanspiele game. Then we talk about a classic game of push-your-luck, Can't Stop, but a more-recent and fancier version of it! Alexa: You forgot to mention how we took an eternity to post this... Willie: I didn't forget; I selectively omitted.
Willie: My voice is fully recovered! We talk about games we played, and mostly talk about Harmonies, a beautiful abstract game about nature! We also talk about the one bad thing I didn't like about it! Alexa: You think harmonicas are beautiful??? Willie: Okay, TWO bad things...
Willie: We're back! This is the unofficial start to Season 3 of Boardgames and Blank as we report on our time at Kublacon 2024 this year! We go over all the shenanigans that happened, as well as what games we played (or tried to). Alexa: It took a month to post this!!!! Willie: SHUSH!
Willie: It's that time again soon: KublaCon 2024 is upon us, and in today's episode (after a brief talk and rant about Harmonies, the latest abstract nature tile-laying game that took my attention by storm), we talk about boardgame convention excitement, along with what games I'm looking forward to snagging if I see them available! Alexa: Hooray for KublaCon!!!!! I want to play Harmonies there!!! The Shipwreck Arcana!!! Riverside!!! Rafter Five!!! I WANT TO GET DICE!!!!! >:O Willie: If only you would harness this energy towards your homework...
Willie: Today, we're talking about recent boardgames we've been playing, and then talking about a game about making plans to go to Japan called Let's Go to Japan, by Josh Wood! Just hear us out, the game sounds like it's boring, but it's very fun and beautiful and is a challenging solo game as well! Alexa: I want the bowls from your fancy deluxe edition!!! >:D Willie: Leave my bowls alone!
Willie: Hi everyone! We go over a lot of games we've played since the last episode, and talk about a wonderfully-abstract game with glorious components called Lacuna! Alexa: I like how in the photo for the episode includes our crooked flower (pink). And yes, it is a wonderfully abstract game with GLORIOUS components. :D Willie: Why do you sound like me? Did I raise a parrot? Alexa: Can I have a cracker?
Willie: Today, we talk about an underrated game that deserves more plays, Tiny Towns! A game that requires strategy in resource-placement on a limited 4 x 4 grid to create the building meeples that you require for the best score possible. Alexa: It's always so satisfying to see your completed tiny town... full of wells. Willie: Well, well, well...
Willie: Happy New Year! We're starting 2024 with a game we played in 2023 in both recent plays and in the main episode...Nana: Christmas Edition! Alexa: It sounds like we should've started it weeks ago but actually we just took a long time editing. : Willie: Secrets...revealed!
Willie: It's the holidays! Taking a fun break from the norm of talking about a game and a page from an awesome boardgame podcast Boardgame Blitz and listing five games we'd like to play before Christmas! Not necessarily a "top" list or in any particular order, but something different this time around. Also, because I anticipate others are interested in one of Alexa's picks, it's here. Alexa: But your list is in a particular order. You're always too organized. But my room is totally super neat :P Willie: Riiiiiight. See you all in 2024!
Alexa: Hi, I am Alexa and I'm the only person doing the description today. :=( We will be talking about our 1,000,000 (??) ButtonShy games. How many do we have? Let's find out! And... hopefully find all of them. Willie: Excuse you, there are 31+ games in my ButtonShy collection, thank you very much, along with some interesting stories here and there. It's fitting, then, that this MASSIVE episode is almost an HOUR of edited audio that we should've split into two, but we didn't...so please enjoy! It also comes with a sudden end thanks to Lenny walking all over my keyboard. Alexa: Good work, Lenny! Hey, wasn't I supposed to be the only one typing this? ButtonShy Games: https://buttonshygames.com/
Willie: Happy Halloween, everyone! Today we talk all about spoopy games and of one in particular, Shaky Manor from Blue Orange games! Alexa's still shaking people, though... Alexa: What's a shaky manor? shaky people makes more sense. No one says "shaky people"... Willie: Stop shaking everything!
Willie: This week, we talk recent games played, and about AEG's latest game, Shake That City! Alexa: You mean PERSON. Why would it be "city"? It doesn't make any sense at all. But "person" makes way more sense. Willie: Stop shaking people, Alexa.
Willie: Hi all! Making up for some missed weeks by releasing another episode. We talk about games played, and then we talk about another Phil Walker-Harding game, the dry-erase-card game Silver and Gold! Alexa: We missed so many weeks... cuz we're lazy! Willie: We're trying to be better!
Willie: In today's episode, we talk about recent games we played, and all about the kid-version of Kingdomino, Dragonimo! Alexa: Dinosaurio!!!!!!!!!!! Willie: Let's agree that either name is a stretch....
Willie: In today's episode, Emmett joins Alexa and I again talking about the games we played, and talk about a recently-released AEG game Fit to Print, all about animals making newspapers! Alexa: NOOOOSSSSPAPERRRRRRR..... wait. Nosepaper? Yeah that's probably it... Emmett: This is sooooo fun. Willie: Also, Alexa also has a good idea for a future Fit to Print expansion! And we have bloopers! Enjoy!
Willie: In this overdue episode, we catch up on games, have a follow-up story from KublaCon, and discuss the delightfully-quick strategy game Boop, which has been given a terrible nickname as seen in the episode name above. Alexa: While they boop they poop :D Willie: Okay, that honestly could be a very hilarious mini-expansion. :D Alexa: Never unerestimate my genius.
Willie: Can you believe it's been a year since we started Boardgames and Blank, Alexa? But I think this works to our advantage, because it's timed well with KublaCon, our local con that we go to! Yes, we're posting our post-thoughts about the now-2-weeks-ago con, as well as what we played recently as well. What a way to kick off Season 2! Alexa: And because it's the start of the new season, let me tell you a random fact! Toejam is... Willie: NOTHING! It's nothing! Can't we just stick with boardgames? Alexa: If you don't know what it is, I dare you to search it up. Willie: Season 2 is gonna be great...
Willie: Finally got this episode edited! Today, we talk about what we've been playing lately, and then about a simple card game about capturing a criminal in tunnels called Bandida. Alexa: Finally. We did this episode AGES ago. Willie: I know. Hopefully the next one won't be so far off...
Willie: Today, we talk about the Impact of Tacos vs Burritos, hungry numbers, barrels with eyes, stealing stuff, and buggy games! This is also the first podcast episode where we added bloopers in the end! Alexa: Wait-- it IS!? I don't remember anything about you saying, "Hey Alexa we're gonna put bloopers at the end of the podcast!!" I HEARD NONE OF THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Willie: Instead of erasing our mistakes, I'm collecting them all in a jar to release at the end and oh no I broke the jar...
Willie: Okay, newest podcast comes a week later than our bi-weekly schedule, so we got to work on that. But today, we're going over Marvel Remix, a game based on the same gameplay mechanic as Fantasy Realms, but with its own twist and different theme! It's a game I won in Raynah88's Twitch stream (where she streams board and video games), and a game I'll likely throw in the TRASH! Alexa: Yeah, he's gonna throw it in the trash cuz I keep beating him. [:
Willie: It's been a while since our last episode, so bear with us while we re-adjust our formats somewhat, but we're still excited to record more Boardgames and Blank podcasts! In today's episode, we go over nearly all the games we've been playing during our long hiatus, and then we talk about Cat Lady and its expansion Box of Treats! Alexa: Because we're lazy. Willie: ARGH! Shoutout to BookOfNerds, check out his boardgame Twitch Streams: https://www.twitch.tv/bookofnerds
Willie: The holidays are upon us, and we're busy with other things in life, so there haven't been many podcasts lately. But we have one here today, where we talk about another Daryl Chow favorite: Wok and Roll, and its expansion The Korean Wave! Alexa: I don't like listening to rock and roll. Willie: Why do I even bother?
Willie: Today we have another "Alexa pulls down the shelf" episode with Tokaido, one of the earliest games in my collection from 2012 about having the best vacation in ancient Japan. Alexa: "Alexa pulls down the shelf"? Wow! I must be super strong! Willie: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Willie: Another longer hiatus, but I promise we'll get a better routine going on. This week we talk about dodging and shooting bullets, and talk about a game Alexa couldn't think of a weird name to change it to - Delicious! Alexa: What does "hatis" mean? And also, what do you mean by "dodging and shooting bullets"? Willie: This is why we can't have nice podcasts...
Willie: It's a late one, but the second half of our Essen Preview is up now, right past a little off the last day of Essen 2022! I'd say that's close enough! We catch up to with some Bargain Basement Bathysphere excitement, get giggly with artwork from The Three Little Wolves, and go nuts over some Dulce. Enjoy!
Willie: Hey everyone! This week's podcast is a little different and longer than previous ones because today, Alexa and I review the Essen preview list in Boardgamegeek.com! It's really mostly me just scrolling down the list and stopping whenever Alexa sees something interesting...like a duck's butt, or a tomato vending machine. And for the last time, "No Image Available" is NOT a game!! Alexa:"No Image Available" IS a game! And we are reviewing the ESSAY preview list! Now, let's get back to it... hm, hm, hm, hm, hm... Willie: Part 2 is cancelled. Essen Spiel '22 list: https://boardgamegeek.com/geekpreview/55/spiel-22-preview
Willie: After some weird audio issues and delays, we're back again! This time, we almost forgot what we played, then we talked about flicking penguins around a very cold school, Ice Cool! Alexa: GASP! We were flicking PENGUINS this WHOLE time?! How rude of us! You knew, so why didn't you tell me? I would've stopped! Willie: No you wouldn't! You're flicking ME right now! STOP!! OW!! QUIT IT!!
Willie: Sorry for the missed episode last week, still trying to get used to the new scheduling we put ourselves in. This week, we discuss about forgetting rules and flying through space with 18 cards in our recent plays. Then we talk about another boardgame that caught Alexa's eye from my shelf, Ticket to Ride! Alexa:No, it's Ticket to DRIVE! Not Ticket to RIDE! Willie: Don't make me turn this podcast around...
Willie: Hi all! Sorry for the lack of an episode last week! School schedules are revving up, so the timing of these are shifted to Sundays around 10 AM PST-ish. We make it up talking about drawing monsters, large-but-simple games, and then Alexa pulls another game off the shelf she's interested about - Coffee Roaster! Listen along as she helps me find out something NEW in my 5yr-old copy. Alexa: Ooh! I know what we found! we found-- Willie: SHH!! Don't spoil it!
Willie: While I think up another excuse for not having any proper intro or intro music, why don't you come along and listen us talk about drawing aliens, sumo erasors, writing numbers on the moon, and COFFEE while we talk about Kopi King! Alexa: Speaking of which, can I have your morning coffee?:> Willie: No.
Willie: Hey everyone! Today, we're talking about succulents, flying to the moon, and making parks with bears in them. Barenpark's on the menu today! Alexa: Because of the toilets.):) Willie: Ugh...
Willie: Sorry for the sudden absense last week, due to unforeseen circumstances. But we're back this week, with a two-fer! We talk about Orchard and its recently-released sequel, Grove! Alexa: "due to unforeseen circumstances." I KNOW WHY WE WEREN'T HERE LAST WEEK. DONUT IGNORE ME. Willie: Shh, we can't talk about the bunnies... Alexa: ....What bunnies? Willie: Exactly.
Willie: Today's episode comes a little late, but I butcher pronouncing the designers' names we talk about Railroad Ink: Red Edition. I'm so sorry... Alexa: What about the orange one the pink purple yellow blue green brown aquamarine white black tan light purple ombre edition? Willie: Wait...there were THAT many new releases?!??!
Willie: Welcome back to another episode where I try to get Alexa talk louder for the mic! Today, we talk about round robins, groan about math, and discuss the simple flip-and-write Next Station: London! Alexa, you know when we play this, we'll have to calculate our scores. Alexa:IT'S NOT ROUND ROBINS. I THINK IT'S CANONS. ARE YOU HAPPY? I'M TALKING LOUDER. Willie: Now if only this was in today's podcast...
Willie: In today's episode, I'm here with my CO-HOST (not "coast") Alexa and we talk about picking mums, drawing train maps, and the very-green game Planted! So many plants! So much care! So much...game! Alexa: I am your COAST, who likes picking MOMS, and thinks that you are so wrong. Plants is also a good game. >:) Willie: I'll agree to one of those things...
Willie: Still intro-less, we trudge on talking about games we played, and have our first guest on the show...Emmett! Then we discuss about the cats, quilts and colorful buttons that is Calico! Alexa: THAT GUEST WAS SO ANNOYING. Willie: He's your brother. That's his JOB! :D
Willie: One of these days, I'll add an intro to the podcast. Anyways, today we discuss about journals, RPGs, and hedgehogs! Confusing, I know. We talk about what we played recently, and then about Sweaters by Hedgehog, a solo journaling RPG! Alexa: What does "so low" mean? What does "Ripped up Paper Guys" mean? Willie: "Ripped up Paper Guys"?? You mean, RPG? Oh jeez... Sweaters by Hedgehog: https://hauntedoak.itch.io/sweaters-by-hedgehog
Willie: A little late for this week's podcast (and still no intro music yet), but today we talk about Hibachi, a dexterity game where players are chefs throwing poker chips to get ingredients. It's a reimplementation of "Safranito," which I FINALLY looked up now post podcast. Alexa: .........There's another moment! Ooh, chips. Willie: I regret inside jokes. email: boardgamesandblank@gmail.com Hibachi: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/313718/hibachi Safranito: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/66849/safranito
Willie: Hi! Today's episode is still intro-less, but it's a boardgame convention special episode, where we talk about our local KublaCon that we just attended this past week. And Alexa got her first badge! Also, DICE! Alexa: Hey, he copied me! I was the one who kept saying dice!|:
Willie: Episode 4 is here, and we STILL don't have an intro! Today we discuss about Mr. Cabbagehead's Garden, and distinguish Alexa from a popular piece of tech. Alexa: Hey... YOU GOT ANOTHER THING WRONG AGAIN!!! It's "Mr. CARROThead!" >:P Willie: ...Ugh...
Willie: Gosh, Episode 3 and we still don't have any intro music! We're working on that, but for now, rejoice in the episode where we properly announce our podcast name! Stay and listen to us talk about Go Nuts for Donuts, one of the first games I played with Alexa, and how we play this with stuffed animals! Alexa: I'm gonna bring the stuffies into the podcast... Willie: Leave Big Nose out of this! Send comments/suggestions/good vibes to boardgamesandblank@gmail.com!
Willie: In this episode, we talk about a small solo game Shephy by Pawn, learn what "solitaire" means, and go through the design process of our own podcast title! Alexa: Hey, wait a minute... I thought this was called "Shephy"! Shephy and nothing else! >:( Willie: It's not called "Shephy by Pawn." Pawn's the name of the designer. *sigh*
Willie: Welcome to our first-ever episode of Boardgames and Blank, where we talk about boardgames and _________! This week, we do some quick intros, make awkward conversation, and talk about Hippo by Helvetiq, a game of dice math, floaties, and a Hippo smack in the middle. Enjoy! Alexa: Mr. "Willie" spelled "Hippo Pot Timus" wrong. ALSO, Hippo is a really fun game. THE END! Willie: I'm not changing the title.
