We're back and warming up for the official return of Making It with Chris G this Thursday with a brand new format: the Coffee Chat Q&A ☕️

Trump's tariffs have created a labyrinth of regulations in the automotive world, with 25% duties on vehicle imports and additional tariffs layered on top for certain countries. This complex system has manufacturers, dealers, and consumers scrambling to understand what it means for vehicle pricing and availability.Aiden Bergsman from Anderson Economic Group breaks down this puzzle for listeners, explaining how these tariffs affect everything from manufacturing decisions to consumer prices. The good news for car shoppers? Vehicles already on dealer lots won't see these price increases, creating an unusual opportunity for those in the market right now. Some manufacturers are even offering special pricing to move current inventory before tariff-affected vehicles arrive. The conversation shifts to broader economic impacts, with insights on how these trade policies affect investment portfolios and retirement accounts. While market volatility creates anxiety, historical perspective suggests patience usually pays off for long-term investors. As Bergsman notes, "Panicking can only make it worse for some people and is going to add more stress and more anxiety."The episode takes a nostalgic turn as Jeff explores the bygone era of station wagons, reminding us of rear-facing seats, wood paneling, and the freedom of sprawling out in "the way back" without seatbelts. This cultural touchstone serves as a fascinating counterpoint to today's discussions about vehicle design and safety regulations.Whether you're concerned about your next vehicle purchase, curious about economic impacts, or simply enjoy automotive history, this episode delivers valuable insights with real-world applications. Something massive is about to shift in the American automotive marketplace. Starting next Wednesday, 25% tariffs will hit vehicles and parts imported from Canada, Mexico, Europe, Japan, and essentially any foreign country—and these will stack on top of existing tariffs. Our conversation with Aiden Bergsman from the Anderson Economic Group reveals just how complex this situation is becoming. Modern vehicles aren't simply built in one country—components cross borders repeatedly during manufacturing. That engine in your Chevy might have started in Canada, crossed to Detroit, had Mexican parts added, then crossed back to Canada before returning as a finished vehicle. Each crossing potentially triggers tariffs, and Bergsman's analysis suggests these could raise vehicle prices by $3,000-$10,000, with EVs potentially seeing even steeper increases.Manufacturers face impossible choices: absorb unsustainable costs, pass them to already-stretched consumers, frantically relocate production to the U.S., or discontinue certain models entirely. Meanwhile, dealers are stockpiling imports before the deadline hits. The situation is particularly threatening for models exclusively built in Canada or Mexico that don't sell in high volumes—these might simply disappear from the market.Beyond tariffs, we explore the alarming 16% increase in auto loan fraud (now $9.2 billion annually) and share news about Hyundai's massive $6 billion steel mill investment in Louisiana, part of their $21 billion U.S. manufacturing expansion. This strategic move has earned them an exemption from the upcoming tariffs, demonstrating one way forward in this challenging new landscape.Whether you're planning to buy a vehicle soon or simply want to understand how these economic shifts will affect the automotive world, this episode provides crucial insights into what might be the biggest shake-up in car manufacturing and pricing in decades.

For consumer products, packaging plays a huge role in your ability to raise money and get onto shelves. Investors and retailers are looking for traction, so you need to have packaging buttoned up before you even approach them. But here's the challenge: great packaging is expensive, and cheap packaging is very easy to spot and can tank your marketability. Every founder wants their product to be the “best dressed” without breaking the bank, but how do you actually achieve this? From a packaging perspective, there are a few key things you can do to make sure your product looks good, catches the eye, and stands out on shelves. From branding to form factor, there are plenty of cost-saving strategies that don't compromise on quality. How can we use limited time offers to get some initial attention, buzz and traction? How unique should our packaging be? In this episode, I'm joined by packaging expert and President of Global Enterprise at AE Global, Elizabeth Corbett. Interview with Anthony Moreau, CEO of American Eagle GoldOur previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/american-eagle-gold-tsxvae-massive-copper-grades-over-huge-widths-4841Recording date: 14th November 2024American Eagle Gold offers investors an attractive speculation on the emerging gold-copper discovery in mining-friendly British Columbia. The company's flagship, NAK Copper-Gold project, has already delivered impressive drill results that point to multi-billion ton potential, attracting major investments from two leading mining companies. In a strong show of confidence, major miners Tech and South32 have taken substantial equity positions in American Eagle, validating the project's potential. South32 made a game-changing $29 million investment with no warrants after visually inspecting drill core. As CEO Anthony Moreau explained, "A $29 million investment on equity with no warrants is significant and it completely de-risks us."Armed with nearly $40 million on hand, American Eagle now has a three-year runway to aggressively drill and expand the deposit. To date, only about 20% of the prospective area has been explored, leaving substantial room for growth. "I think we have the potential to have another 10x on us," stated Moreau, who believes the company is on track to reach a billion dollar valuation. The NAK deposit has a unique characteristic - in the north, the mineralization is more copper-rich with a 70-30 copper to gold ratio, while in the south it transitions to a more gold-rich. This provides AE with exposure to two metals with compelling supply-demand fundamentals. Copper is a critical metal for the global energy transition and faces a looming supply deficit, while gold stands to benefit from a rising tide of inflation concerns and geopolitical risks. As Moreau quipped, "Gold companies want copper now. It's not a competition."American Eagle has already delivered a 30x return for investors over the past two years, and a tightly held share structure provides confidence for further gains. With about 60-63% of shares owned by insiders and the two major mining investors, only about 37% of shares are in retail hands. The company is now focused on stepping out aggressively with the drill bit to further expand the resource. "For any retail that comes out, the more we de-risk ourselves and the higher valuation we get, now these banks and these funds can start coming in," explained Moreau. "We've seen that recently - I saw a lot of funds come in."For investors seeking outsized returns in the junior mining space, American Eagle Gold provides an attractive combination of geologic potential, major miner backing, and a proven management team focused on marketing and growth. With drills turning to further prove out a globally significant resource, AEG is well positioned to continue rewarding shareholders. From his Micromorphisms to his Opticals and Pinwheels, Dan Alexander explores the mesmerizing world of optical illusions, where intricate designs and mind-bending patterns come to life in stunning glass artistry. From captivating sculptures to breathtaking installations, each piece in this collection is a testament to his artistry and craftsmanship. Much of Alexander's inspiration comes from photographs he has taken or his travels. Looking at one micro-aspect of an object, he envisions how that small segment could be used in repetition to create an overall pattern. An example would be looking at one single coral in the ocean and repeating its colors and shape over and over again to make a large glass tile. By rolling that glass tile up hot around a glass bubble or collar, he makes a large vessel. The artist uses the blown glass process to create a three-dimensional canvas on which his murrine and patterns can be displayed. Says Alexander: “The work I am currently exploring is inspired by nature, textiles, travel, and architecture – more specifically patterns therein. Being an artist and world traveler, I look at the world around me and try to determine how it could be translated to glass.” Having grown up in a small farming town in northeast Ohio, Alexander has always been interested in art, history, nature, and creating. Upon seeing glass being made for the first time at Hale Farm and Village, Bath, Ohio, he knew this was a trade he had to master. He received his BFA in glass from Kent State University, where he was able to explore glass as an artistic medium while being introduced to working with other materials, history, color theory, and composition. Following graduation, Alexander studied with some of the top glass artists in the field today and worked in Murano, Italy, with Maestro Davide Salvadore creating large scale blown glass art. Later, he worked for the Corning Museum of Glass as lead gaffer, where he spent six years traveling the world and educating the public about the science and history of glass art. Eventually Alexander decided to take on a new role as the studio director of Third Degree glass factory, St. Louis, Missouri, producing higher volume work, site specific installations, and overseeing studio operations and glass production. In 2016, Alexander began to branch out and create a name for himself as an independent artist. In recent years he was awarded an emerging artist residency at Duncan McClellan's Gallery in St. Petersburg Florida, the AACG professional artist residency at GoggleWorks Center for the Arts in Reading, Pennsylvania, and Empire of Glass exhibition/residency in Vienna, Austria. He was nominated for the Glass Art Society's Saxe Emerging Artist Award and received an international exhibiting artist award from the Effect, Dream, Transform exhibition in Uskudar, Turkiye. Alexander is currently building a private studio and 501C3 nonprofit in St. Petersburg, Florida, called Art, Education, Gathering Inc. or AEG. Its tagline is: From Glass to Growth – Building Communities Together. AEG will offer community outreach, using glass as a form of STEM education, residencies, mentorships, classes and an emergency program for artists affected by disaster. Says Alexander: “Education is an extremely important aspect. If the public wasn't interested in art, many mediums would suffer. The more knowledge we can share with the public, the more sales, donations, and funding will be put into the arts.”

He also supports AEG's global business units in the implementation and execution of sustainability initiatives, manages external partnerships related to sustainability, facilitates the sharing of best practices, and ensures that sustainability is a source of value across the company. Distler has worked at the intersection of environmental and social responsibility in sports and entertainment for more than ten years. Before joining AEG, he built and led the sports-focused sustainability strategy and program at Nike. Prior to Nike, he was with the Green Sports Alliance where he oversaw relationships with corporate partners, live entertainment events, professional sports leagues and clubs, sports governing bodies, and collegiate schools and conferences, as well as working extensively with ESPN. He also spent time as a sustainability consultant with PwC. Distler began his career in accounting and finance, where he worked for Deloitte and The Siegfried Group LLP for the first seven years of his career. He received his Master of Public Administration (MPA) in Sustainable Management from Presidio Graduate School and his Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance from Iowa State University, graduating with Honors and High Distinction.. Erik Joins Sustainable Nation to Discuss: How AEG manages sustainability at large events like music festivals Piloting initiatives at smaller events to apply learnings and replicate at larger events Incorporating reusable materials at events in partnership with Our World Advice and recommendations for sustainability professionals Erik's Final Five Questions Responses: What is one piece of advice you would give other sustainability professionals that might help them in their careers? I would say have as many conversations as you can. Sustainability departments are often departments and functions that are in service to the business. We tend to operate as internal consultants. So how can we be everywhere at the same time? How can we ensure that every part of the business has the opportunity to build sustainability into their work? How do we consult to provide subject matter expertise to the business? The work we do within the department is measurement and data and setting sustainability targets and all that kind of exists within our function. But it all starts with having conversations. I wouldn't be afraid to sit down with someone and ask them more questions than provide statements on how they feel, how they perceive sustainability, where they feel as though it's working, where it's not working, what can we do more of that really helped build out our sustainability strategy. Do a little bit of a needs assessment on what stakeholders and partners value. The only other thing I'd say too secondary is, don't be afraid to start somewhere. I think we often feel as though the challenges we're up against are audacious and global and all encompassing, and they are. It can sometimes feel like we're out at sea against a massive challenge on our own when we think of climate issues. That can freeze one up. It can stifle movement. You can feel like, "well, what can I do? I can't possibly make a difference." It's amazing what just taking one small step can lead to. There's been this kind of backlash against incrementalism in the space, like we need big changes, not incremental changes, but I don't know that I agree with that. I think an incremental quick change that you can grow on and iterate from can turn into something very big. So don't be afraid to start somewhere. Start with something that you can measure, for sure. But have those conversations and turn those small steps into big steps. What are you most excited about right now in the world of sustainability? There's a lot to be excited about. When realizing the gravity of the issue that we're facing, I think it's important to find sources of encouragement and hopefulness. There's really no other way. There's a line by Walt Kelly from his pogo comic strip many years ago that says, “we are confronted with insurmountable opportunities.” I use that and refer to that a lot. Try to figure out what is the opportunity in front of us and be optimistic about it. I think there's an excitement around the external forces. They're becoming louder and more influential, and that's encouraging. Our fans, our partners, our sponsors, our artists and entertainers. There's more of a voice and more influence that is being laid upon us and expected from us. I think collaboration is increasing cross-sector research companies that are competitive coming together in a pre-competitive way. Higher education institutions are pulling us in to do research that will help us in our business. We're seeing a lot of that. There's also a healthy kind of push, pull and engagement among our partners and sponsors. There's that untapped space with partnerships and sponsorships where it's determining inventory and the assets and how sustainability can be valued and monetized, but the conversations that we're having with partners or potential partners around shared goals, targets, aspirations, and what we can do together to help achieve our individual sustainability goals, kind of matches up. There's a lot of energy and excitement around that. What is one book you would recommend sustainability leaders read? One is Thinking in Systems by Donella Meadows. It's a book that'll retrain your brain to consider the interconnectedness of literally everything around you. And then Natural Capitalism by Paul Hawken, Amory Lovins and L. Hunter Lovins. It's that seminal book on environmental economics. What are some of your favorite resources or tools that really help you in your work? I read Green Bizz, 3BL and Triple Pundit. We get a lot of resources from our longtime partner, Schneider Electric. We've worked with them for many years and they have webinars and lots of sessions and thought leadership that we use a lot. I also keep up on the guidance from the GHG protocol, the EPA, the UN. In our space in particular, there are two organizations that are co- holding up the movement, Green Sports Alliance on the sports side and a more newly formed music sustainability alliance on the music side. We look to these two entities to hold and convene us, and there's a lot of good research and thinking coming out of those orgs as well. Where can our listeners go to learn more about you and the work being done at AEG? Our website, aegworldwide.com. There's an About Us dropdown at the top, and we have a somewhat newly revamped sustainability page and more changes coming. We're building out a microsite off that page when we have our next generation sustainability goals finalized. We'll have all that good stuff up there. We also have case studies or what we call sustainability stories up on that page. Also under About Us, you can read about our social impact and DEI functions as well. We have a Twitter account, we recently rebranded it from AEG One Earth to the handle, @AEGSustain or the account name, AEG sustainability. We're trying to get information up there. And of course, LinkedIn is a great place to reach out to myself or anyone from our sustainability team.
Was ist in diesem Jahr neu?

Shoot us a Text. It's Tuesday. That is all. Today, we're talking about a new report that shows the CDK hack resulted in $1B in losses, how GM is pulling back from its EV target and what other retailers are doing to take advantage of Amazon Prime DayShow Notes with linksDealerships across the nation are reeling after a devastating cyberattack on CDK Global resulted in $1.02 billion in losses, as reported by the Anderson Economic Group (AEG).Between June 19 and July 15, dealerships lost 56,200 new-vehicle sales.AEG initially projected a $944 million loss but updated it to $1.02 billion due to new sales data and the actual duration of the outage.AutoNation estimated the CDK situation had stripped $1.50 out of its second-quarter earnings per share. On June 21 more than $25 million of bitcoin was sent to an "address assessed by TRM Labs to be controlled by the ransomware group BlackSuit," according to blockchain intelligence firm TRM Labs.AEG CEO Patrick Anderson highlighted the need for businesses to brace for potential cyberattacks, stating, “This episode is a wake-up call for the auto industry, and a warning to all others.”General Motors CEO Mary Barra has adjusted the company's ambitious EV production target, signaling a shift in expectations amid slowing momentum for electric vehicles.GM will not reach the production capacity for one million EVs by the end of next year, as previously aimed.Barra emphasized that customer demand will dictate the pace of reaching the one million EV annual sales mark. The company faces hurdles, including recent battery production issues and delayed opening of an electric pickup truck plant near Detroit.GM is increasing production of the electric Chevrolet Blazer and Equinox models to boost sales.US EV deliveries were flat in Q2 year-over-year but increased 11% from Q1, per Cox Automotive.Despite the slowdown, Barra remains confident the market will eventually support their EV goals, stating, “We won't get to a million just because the market's not developing, but it will get there.”As Amazon gears up for its 10th Prime Day, rival retailers are not sitting idly by. Major players like Walmart, Target, Kohl's, and newcomers TikTok Shop and Temu have launched their own summer sales to attract deal-hungry shoppers.Retailers are leveraging the excitement around Prime Day to offer their own discounts and promotions, aiming to capture some of Amazon's market share.July sales events help retailers pull in back-to-school shoppers and those looking for summer items, mitigating the traditional summer lull in retail spending.Retailers closely monitor each other's pricing, with some, like Best Buy, adjusting their deals in real-time to stay competitive with Amazon.Perceived deals and the urgency created by limited-time offers can drive significant consumer interest and spending.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email
