Last month, India's second largest automaker – Hyundai – went public. But this was not your run of the mill IPO. This was widely speculated to be the largest public listing ever seen in the Indian stock market. So there was naturally a lot of hype around it. But on October 17, just hours before Hyundai's public issue was set to close, most stock market circles across the country were stumped. There was a growing sense of disbelief. Panic even. Because only half of the nearly Rs 28,000 crore offer had been subscribed until then. This was a far cry from the 90 per cent threshold that had to be crossed. The IPO eventually had a pretty listless listing on October 22. Despite all that hype. Now naturally, that left a lot of people wondering what could have gone wrong? What prompted so many retail investors to keep away from the Hyundai IPO? Well, a lot of it had to do with what transpired in Rajkot in the run-up to issue. This isn't just about Hyundai. This small city in Gujarat has a big role to play in India's IPO market. Tune in. We are hosting our first live recording! For a brief time in 2021, the affluent town of San Marino in Los Angeles County saw a dramatic decrease in residential burglaries, its most common crime. Between January and May, they dropped 80%, down to seven from 32 in the same period of 2020.For Flock Safety, which had installed AI-powered license plate readers for the San Marino Police Department in June 2020, the statistic was marketing gold. The company seized on this data, claiming its technology was key in decreasing not just burglaries, but all crimes in the town by 70%.Taking a wider lens tells a different story. Despite that initial five month drop in 2021, residential burglaries on the whole rose after Flock's cameras were deployed. In 2019, San Marino reported 60 residential burglaries. In 2023, three years after Flock's arrival, there were 63 — a 5% increase.Meanwhile, Part 1 crimes – more serious offenses including larceny and murder – have stayed almost completely flat: 231 in 2023, compared to 230 in 2019, the year before Flock cameras were installed. Even the town's police chief John Incontro admits the 70% claim — still trumpeted on Flock's website today — isn't accurate. “I definitely need to talk to their marketing folks.” See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
This week we're featuring an interview that Bailey Van Tassel had on The Good Dirt Podcast. Enjoy listening from a new perspective as we dive into Bailey's foray into gardening. Bailey is an entrepreneur and mother of three, who created both the Kitchen Garden Society and the Garden Culture Podcast. She grew up on a hobby farm in Sebastopol, California, but didn't fully appreciate her cowboy parents until she moved away and missed the huge garden, chickens, and pigs that she grew up around. Settling into the suburbs of Southern California meant she couldn't have the same amount of space, but after a challenge from her husband Joe, Bailey went to Home Depot, bought some plants, got her HOA's permission after vowing to share her vegetables, and the rest was history. Bailey's life changed even more once she started to share her journey online, where her passion shifted from hobby to profession. In this episode, Emma and Mary sit down with Bailey to discuss her journey, the evolution of her gardening practices, and techniques such as planting by the moon and vermicomposting. After years of searching for the perfect land to have her farm and garden, Bailey realized that right where she was, was good enough. Today, The Two Mikes welcomed back Aaron Renn to the program after much too long of an absence.Mr. Renn is an author, a specialist on urban areas, big and small, as well as a devout and very knowledgeable Christian, who often writes about his faith.Today he described his experience in moving to and now living in Carmel, Indiana, which is a suburb on the northside of Indianapolis. Mr. Renn noted that the city's Republican mayor – James Brainard – recently retired after seven consecutive terms and left behind a jewel of a smaller city, one that has been voted the “internet's favorite small city. The city remains small – c, 100,000 people, but it is now a world class place in terms of employment, education, commerce, and livability. Much of the city features new buildings of all kinds, and new roads that make moving around the city easy at all times of the day. Carmel has shown the rest of America than genuine conservative governments can play a key role in the physical and attitudinal restoration, especially in making sure that thrift and commonsense permeate the rebuilding effort.Mr. Renn added that Indiana is a reliably conservative Republican state, and it also is a strong-Mayor state and so is well positioned to oversee the conduct of this Carmel-kind of successful urban reinvigoration. We also spoke shortly with Mr. Renn about a new book he has written. The Book is called, Life in a Negative World. Confronting Challenges in an Anti-Christian Culture. The book will be published on 30 January 2024. Mr. Renn said the book is about the future of the Evangelical Church and what it must do to confront, survive, and thrive when most of the country's political and social elites reject Christ and desire all Americans to do so.Mr. Renn also writes that the church must especially work to support men and the key role the need to play -- in a traditional way – in defending family, country, and God. Mr. Renn's book is available now at Amazon for pre-order, and for sale on 30 January 2024SponsorsTriangle Fragrance: https://trianglefragrance.com/?sca_ref=4171318.dUndUHDKz3Cambridge Credit: https://www.cambridge-credit.org/twomikes/ EMP Shield: https://www.empshield.com/?coupon=twomikesOur Gold Guy: https://www.ourgoldguy.comwww.TwoMikes.us

Shannon Elizabeth has starred in over 50 films and television shows, including the global hits American Pie, Scary Movie and the newly rebooted Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back. Shannon has a deep and abiding respect for all life and is a staunch protagonist of a vegan lifestyle. In 2001, she began to follow her true life's passion of saving animals by launching her non-profit, Animal Avengers, first as a dog and cat rescue operation and then with the broader remit of wildlife conservation. Shannon continues her acting career, but her primary focus has become helping wild animals in Africa and elsewhere by whatever means necessary. In order to be hands on with her projects and to expand their scope and influence, Shannon moved to Africa in 2016 and now lives in Cape Town. The media development of the Shannon Elizabeth Foundation, especially production of video content, will be a major aspect of Shannon's ongoing work. In addition, Shannon continues to travel for acting and public appearances, speaking engagements and whenever needed to help animals in the hope of making the world an even better place.
