Good day to you all!! It's time for another ROUSING episode of Movies on the Rocks!! Today is a special one as it's Elias' last show, at least for the foreseeable future. We know he will always be welcome. What a great episode to go out on. A fantastic film, not only western. The magnum opus of Sergio Leone's career. Possibly the greatest western of all time, and that is saying something. It has everything from desperados, robber barons, murderers, mystery men and damsels in not so distress. Plus some of the greatest shots in movie history. An amazing film and a great way to end his time on the show (for now.) So go ahead and give us a listen, but beware of the harmonica. As always, we do this with a song in our hearts, a drink in one hand and a harmonica in the other. CHEERS!!! Tom Halchak joins me on episode 91.Tom tells us how he grew his successful company, Blue Moon Harmonicas, started in 2009. Tom started out selling custom combs, and then covers in different materials and colours. Tom went on to develop his customisation skills to offer fully fledged custom harmonicas using his Blue Moon product lines. Tom also started offering pre-war Marine Band harmonicas for sale. These hand-crafted harps have stood the test of time and with some improvements by Tom, provide a playing experience which conjures the spirit of the players of the past. As a result of his pre-war harmonicas trading, Tom now acts on behalf of the estate of Sonny Terry, offering Sonny's actual harmonicas for sale, complete with the DNA of the great man himself, as well as a range of other memorabilia, such as concert posters and contracts. Tom also prides himself in providing great service.Links:Blue Moon harmonicas:https://bluemoonharmonicas.com/Blue Moon Facebook page:https://www.facebook.com/BlueMoonHarmonicasSonny Terry harmonica collection:https://bluemoonharmonicas.com/collections/sonny-terry-estate-llcVideos:Blue Moon instrumental by Whitt Smith:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NGES1uduekRange of harps available at Blue Moon:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXlrOo9qQKECNC Milling GM wood comb:https://youtu.be/lhVFoRTDMjsJason Ricci video on Blue Moon products he uses:https://youtu.be/PWrKgdGnhZEJason Ricci playing ‘Feel Good Funk':https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSAvtxrTbccCustom combs for Big River:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcgQktZ8gDsAdam Gussow appraisal of 150 of Sonny Terry's harmonicas:https://youtu.be/EDT4Xt70OmgSonny Terry tribute concert at SPAH 2016:https://youtu.be/7ycKmefNKfgPodcast website:https://www.harmonicahappyhour.comDonations:If you want to make a voluntary donation to help support the running costs of the podcast then please use this link (or visit the podcast website link above):https://paypal.me/harmonicahappyhour?locale.x=en_GBor sign-up to a monthly subscription to the podcast:https://www.buzzsprout.com/995536/supportSpotify Playlist:Also check out the Spotify Playlist, which contains most of the songs discussed in the podcast:https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5QC6RF2VTfs4iPuasJBqwT?si=M-j3IkiISeefhR7ybm9qIQPodcast sponsors:This podcast is sponsored by SEYDEL harmonicas - visit the oldest harmonica factory in the world at www.seydel1847.com or on Facebook or Instagram at SEYDEL HARMONICASSupport the show

Wade Schuman joins me on episode 60.Wade is the singer / songwriter and leader, and of course harmonica player, of the New York based 8-piece band, Hazmat Modine, with the harmonica playing a pivotal role in the sound of such a big band. In fact, there is often a second harmonica player in the band.Wade absorbed many musical genres from a young age, which helped shape the eclectic styles of music played by Hazmat Modine, from African, Asian, Klezmer, Caribbean, all with an American roots core. The band has released five albums, with another in the pipeline.Wade started out learning pre-war harmonica, an approach he has integrated so well into the big band line-up. And he was a central part of the New York harmonica scene in the early 1990s, mixing with many of players who have gone on to establish themselves as the leading players in the harmonica community of today.Links:http://www.hazmatmodine.com/Yazoo album of 1920s & 30s harmonica:https://www.downhomemusic.com/product/harmonica-blues-great-harmonica-performances-of-the-1920s-and-30s/Harmonicas, Harps and Heavy Breathers book by Kim Field:https://www.kimfield.com/new-page-2Pat. Ed Dziedzic taught history in the Chicago Public Schools and worked on the trading floor of the Chicago Board of Trade. He is a great believer in the power of music and serendipity to change lives. In this childhood memory, Ed recalls discovering the blues through old record albums and two blues harmonicas that his older brother left behind when he moved out of the family house. Ed takes us through his teenage days visiting Chicago's infamous Maxwell Street open street market. He explains how the music he heard at that outdoor trading post impacted his life in ways he could not have imagined. In the end, Ed's story is a personal love story told with one of Chicago's most famous historic neighborhoods as a backdrop.

Foul Housemates Dan and Liam are back in for this ep about legendary director Ralph Bakshi and his animated classic American Pop. Bakshi is widely known for a unique animation style, pushing the envelope in the genre as a whole, and putting Brad Pitt in an R rated "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". Our favorite movie by him, American Pop, is the story about 4 generations leapfrogging through time while keeping the focus on a theme of music, pain, and all of the drugs of the music industry allowed. Our first episode about a movie I can promise will turn into one of your favorites once you pick up this masterpiece of a film. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/comics-cartoons-craftbeer/support

Fila Brazillia - Harmonicas Are Shite Jazzbo Edit by Mr Turner DL >> https://hypeddit.com/track/srydfy "In 1990 David 'Man' McSherry and Steve Cobby began to record as Fila Brazillia. Hitherto their collaborations had been infrequent and ultra-spontaneous. Both had maintained positions in conventional bands but needed to trade the constraints of the "write - rehearse - gig - record" treadmill for a more fluent, and ultimately enjoyable approach. A nursery period for a music culled from sonic experiments and ideas quickly put to tape emerged. A treatment of all sounds as "objet trouvé" and a hobbyist attitude prevailed. When Dave Brennand a.k.a. Porky heard a piece composed on a wet Wednesday, he asked to release it. They happily agreed. As previous unreleased work hadn't warranted anything but comedy monickers - "Dada Black Sheep" being one - a name was needed. At that time the media's "killer dog frenzy" was in full swing and a breed known as the fila brasiliero was the subject of a debate in the Commons. This was misheard on the radio by Steve, proposed and accepted for the single and eventually the name stuck. The track "Mermaids", was Fila Brazillia's first single, released in Spring 1991, and marked the beginning of a decade which saw Fila yield seven highly acclaimed albums and a skip-full of singles on Pork Recordings and over 60 remixes." Steve Cobby's current projects (2009) include establishing Steel Tiger Records with Sim Lister; home to J*S*T*A*R*S and The Cutler (Cobby collaborations with Lister and Porky).
The harmonica was the musical instrument of choice for young nisei Japanese Canadian men in the 1930s and 1940s. Imagine a town of harmonica players; sounds a bit surreal? Now 'Between the Ears' gives listeners a chance to hear the harmonica as a truly virtuoso instrument, always an instrument of the people - portable, affordable and playable. Acclaimed poet Kim Addonizio turns harmonica student, heading to blues school with pen, mouth, and a stack of harps at the ready, in search of the sweetest sounds. Trossingen in Germany may be the world capital of harmonicas. Every street echoes to the sound of the harp, and even the downtown hotel is part of the old Hohner Factory. This is where you will find the true aficionados, the hard-core addicts, who come to have lessons with the top players. Kim learns riffs from the world's top 'harp' teachers, Dave Barrett, Steve Baker and Joe Filisko - who customizes harps for such as Neil Young, blues great Kim Wilson, and jazz phenomenon Howard Levy, and who she wants to persuade to accompany her on his magical harp. She also dreams of being the first woman to jam on stage at the Blues conference... so will her dreams become reality? Producer: Sara Jane Hall.
