I expand on... the definition of mindfulness and meditationhow they are similar but different in a few waysI also talk about guided meditation and how I use it in my own practice and with my clients. Mindfulness, as I have mentioned before is a natural state of being present without judgment. In this episode, I talk about...Negative bias and how it is easier to explain mindfulness by what it isn't vs what it is. Grieving mindfullyGrief is the most complex emotion next to love. And when it hits us we don’t know what to do. It feels like our brain stops working while our body catches up. It’s a horrible feeling. Grieving is something we all have to do at one point in our lives. We can’t get out of this one alive. Yet, it is an emotion that we stuff as far down as we can. We want to believe it is not true, that we can change it and that we are being punished by it. All of this is further than the truth. Grief is one of the greatest teachers. It forces you to look within. To appreciate the small things in life, to teach you how to use your grief on purpose and above all to be more compassionate with yourself and others. In this episode, I share a story about grief and ways to mindfully grief. The Mustard Seed StoryHow to use the image of the waves to mindfully grieve. Knowing that through it all, you can and will be ok. learn how to grief on-purpose Enjoy the Podcast and remember to be curious, consistent, and make sure you breathe!Hugs, Cheryl P.S I am writing a book, if you want to see behind the scenes, join my community soon. So, can anxiety ever really go away? Well, the answer is yes and no. Anxiety is normal in certain circumstances. It is our primitive brain doing it’s best to keep us safe. It's when it gets attached to everything we do that we have a problem. In this episode, I talk about managing anxiety expectations. The difference between those who manage it and those who don't. Mindfulness is the best thing you can learn to calm the overthinking mind Most of what I talk about is related to mindfulness. I love mindfulness, the present moment and all things zen. I also like to teach people how to move into mindfulness naturally. The term “mindfulness” has become mainstream, but if you break it down, it is simply being present. My definition of mindfulness is...Mindfulness is an on-purpose heightened sense of awareness in the present moment that is without judgmental thoughts. In this episode, I talk about how to begin a mindfulness practice while using the "one minute of mindfulness" technique that I created years ago. So, starting slow can be simple, effective, and fit easily into our life with little effort. I also share a story about the 2 monks walking down the street in relation to mindfulness, and I touch on a study done on mindfulness and some of the wonderful benefits. How does Mindfulness help us?Compassion increases with mindfulnessPatience increasesdistracting thoughts decreaseDecreases over-thinking and anxiety Your mind becomes sharper and more aware of the subtle changes in your life.Plus much more...Enjoy the Podcast and remember to be consistent, curious, and make sure you breathe! Can I really be hypnotized? The answer is yes, except for a few exceptions. Hypnosis is actually a natural state of being. You move in and out of it all day long and in most of your life, you have been hypnotized. Your habits, beliefs, and thinking have been created by a form of hypnosis. Hypnosis is a relaxed state where you are susceptible to suggestions given to you and your subconscious mind. This is natural and it happens all the time. Your subconscious mind filters all of the things going on in your life. It determines what is important and what can be let go. In this episode, I discuss the characteristics of a person who can be hypnotized and those who can't. About 30% of the population is highly susceptible, which means they can be hypnotized easily. Now, even if you mildly hypnotizeable, you can still respond to hypnosis. We can hypnotize people with only a light trance.Let me make this very clear. Hypnosis is not about losing control, on the contrary, it is about taking control of your thinking mind so that changes can take place…naturally. The proverbial elephant in the room usually implies that there’s something big or overwhelming that no one wants to talk about.“Your brain thinks, that is what it does.” The elephant in the room is here to tell you that your brain thinks and you can’t control that stream of consciousness constantly going on and on. It’s perfectly natural to think. The problems arise when you follow a thought down the rabbit hole.
