Episode 110 comes with one of my most anticipated guests, Kevin Lynum Sr. I've heard his name mentioned in many conversations throughout the years, so I decided to go to the man himself and hear his story from his viewpoint. First question I had to get the big one out of the way and clear up the confusion: how many kids does he have?
My guest for episode 109 is a writer, producer, and director whose work includes ER, Criminal Minds, The Game, Power, Stomp The Yard, Think Like A Man, Flash, and All American just to name a few. I pulled up to Jacksonville, Florida for yet another episode. I haven't saw my boy since high school days so when he called me a few weeks back I knew I had to pull up on him. I respect his story because he was real about his fatherhood journey. He explained how for years he wasn't the best dad and wasn't there for his daughter, but he now has realized that he has some time to make up for. Through all of his struggles he is continuing to make the effort to be better daily. He is currently a quadriplegic but is not allowing that to stop him from being at his best. His story is one that should inspire and push us all. My first 2-time guest had to come back and update us on his past 3yrs! It's been exactly 100 episodes since he was last on the podcast. He didn't disappoint. I was inspired as always by his perseverance to push through the rough patches of life. We spoke about private school vs public school, social media influence on kids, him gaining majority time sharing of his children, and many other things. Due to camera issues, the video was cut at the end. But we got the bulk of our conversation done before then. Hope this convo inspires us all to continue pushing to be our best as parents. If I had to choose a favorite episode, this one might have to be at the top. I say that because I know bruh isn't one to talk as much, but in this interview he really opened up about his life. I learned a lot about who he really is and where he comes from. You never truly know someone until you have the opportunity to sit down and talk with them. This is the reason I created this platform, so that men would have a safe place to decompress and share their stories. This is what it's about! Appreciate you big bruh✊
First episode of 2023 is in the books! I've been wanting to sit with my homie for a minute now, so it was only right that we linked up. This episode is a huge milestone for DCWT! 100 stories have been told, and we are continuing to change the narrative. I appreciate all of the men that carved out time in their schedule to sit with me and chop it up about fatherhood and family. Every story has been important and unique in its own way. I've learned so much in the past 3yrs doing this podcast and I'm grateful for this opportunity. Finally knocked out episode 99! I posted up at my man's studio for this one. This was probably one of the realest episodes I've ever done. The Pimp shared his heart in this one! He talked about the death of his child's mother, fighting with DCF, messages the Most High has spoken to him, forgiving his dad, celibacy, and visions for the future. At the end he brought the harmonica out and played a piece. This podcast was created for dads like this that need to get things off their chest, and that's what my man did. Tune in! Let me say this, I know I just received father of the year for the region, but my vote might go to this guy! As I sat and listened to this man's story, I couldn't help but be motivated to do better. He has four children, has custody of 3 of them, has 4 degrees, had 4 kids before he was 21, owns multiple homes, and is truly living life. I'm sure many people wrote him off in his early fatherhood days, but to see where he is today is truly remarkable. He has changed the narrative for real! This is definitely my most surreal interview! Episode 93 has me on a Zoom call with actor Taye Diggs. I've been needing to have this sit-down with my kids for a while. It's always a good thing to sit down and get an understanding with your children. You'll find out many things about them and yourself. Plus, your kids will feel more comfortable talking with you and knowing that their voices are heard. It's not about being right or wrong, it's about getting an understanding. So that's what we did. Of course, Nana dropped out the convo early
Continuing to change the narrative on black fatherhood on episode 84 with my boy Greg Lowery. Episode 81 had me talking fatherhood with a dad hailing all the way from England, UK. It's crazy because even though he is way over in the eastern hemisphere, we still deal with some of the same challenges as dads. He kept it real concerning not having a relationship with his dad, his struggle to balance life and work, and many other things. This was one of those convos that could have easily continued for many hours (y'all know I like to talk)
