This week on the Nerd we talk to Dan Fetes, the Sports Anchor/Reporter at 13WHAM, who covers the #BillsMafia. Our featured charity this week is Miracle Feet: an organization tackling clubfoot (or talipes equinovarus) - the treatable birth defect, that causes one or both feet to turn inwards and downwards. 200,000 babies are born with it every year, mostly in low- and middle-income countries where fewer than 15% have access to appropriate treatment. MiracleFeet is bringing the low-cost, nonsurgical standard of care, routinely provided in advanced health systems, to low-income countries. With MiracleFeet's support, the care is free or extremely low-cost for the families who receive it. We talk about his background, having covered the Bill's for many years, as well as his personal connection with Miracle Feet, our chosen charity for this episode. We then go into his take on the Bill's pre-season performance so far, and his thoughts on Josh Allen's recent deal, as well as his future. We dive into the Bill's running back group, including Singletary's performance in the pre-season and Matt Breida's role to date, as well as how the Bill's offense has changed since 2019. Dan gives us his take on the Bill's wide receiver group, including whether there are any players he would replace, and whether he thinks Marquez Stevenson was going to make the roster pre-injury. We wrap things up by looking at the Bills' defense, in particular the role of Vernon Butler, and his take on Efe Obada. The Buffalo Bills ran their preseason win streak to seven with a thoroughly dominant 41-15 trouncing of the Chicago Bears Saturday afternoon at Soldier Field. There was plenty to like from the win, along with several areas where the Bills can improve, and on the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D'Amico give you their thoughts on what they liked and what they didn't like after Buffalo improved to 2-0 this preseason. Among the players who made a favorable impression on our podcasters: Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who effectively ran Brian Daboll's offense, guiding the Bills to touchdowns on their first four possessions while completing 20 of 28 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown. Rookie edge rusher Greg Rousseau, who came up with a sack and three quarterback hurries on just nine snaps. Fellow defensive ends A.J. Epenesa and Carlos "Boogie" Basham Jr., who helped Buffalo's pass rush generate four sacks and 12 QB hits while causing chaos in the backfield. Running backs Devin Singletary and Zack Moss, who averaged 7.0 yards per carry in rushing for 42 yards on six carries. Singletary eluded the defense and broke off a 14-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-one, while Moss nearly scored on a nifty 11-yard scamper. Wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie, who rebounded from an early muff of a punt to catch seven passes for 72 yards. Tackle Spencer Brown, who played well at both left and right tackle and held his own going up against Khalil Mack. Wide receiver/returner Marquez Stevenson, who broke off an electrifying 79-yard punt return for a TD. Tight end Jacob Hollister, who might be pushing Dawson Knox for the TE1 role. Safety Damar Hamlin and cornerbacks Rachad Wildgoose and Nick McCloud. Those whose performances were less than stellar included: Tackle Bobby Hart, whose poor play along the offensive line could get one of Buffalo's quarterbacks hurt. Tight end Dawson Knox, who continues to struggle with drops and consistency. Quarterbacks Davis Webb and Jake Fromm, who failed to build upon a successful preseason opener. Cornerback Siran Neal, who was badly beaten on a long touchdown pass before halftime. Injuries, as Brown, Stevenson, Harrison Phillips, Dane Jackson (stinger), and Tommy Doyle all left the game with injuries. Grief, death, and loss are an inevitable part of life, though knowing that doesn't make the pain any easier to bear. Whether you've faced unexpected loss time and time again or are navigating grief for the very first time, the waves of difficulty can be drowning. But the good news is that God can offer us a life raft. Isaiah 57:18-19 says, “I will heal them; I will guide them and restore comfort to Israel's mourners, creating praise on their lips. Peace, peace, to those far and near.” This week's guests, Holly Singletary and Andy Griggs, share the holes left in their hearts, and how God has helped heal them, and they share how we can find comfort in the legacies of loved ones passed, and also know deep in our hearts that one day, we will see them again in heaven.    Links, Products, and Resources Mentioned: Jesus Calling Podcast Jesus Calling Isaiah 57:18-19 NIV Jesus Listens Past interview: Eddie Montgomery Upcoming interview: Travis Tritt   Holly Singletary Daryle Singletary Hope With Holly Podcast Hope With Holly Blog Merle Haggard  George Jones  www.hopewithholly.com   Andy Griggs Job 1:10 NIV www.andygriggs.com   Interview Quotes: “I came home that weekend after meeting Daryle and told my mom and dad that I found the man I was going to marry.” - Holly Singletary “It was really sweet to watch [Daryle as a dad] because I think our role of waiting so long prepared us for a different kind of parenting. Before that, he was a special assistant to former Vikings coach Leslie Frazier from 2011 to 2013. Singletary also coached linebackers. He and Frazier were teammates on the Bears' beloved, Super Bowl-winning 1985 team. Before joining the Vikings, Singletary was also the 49ers' head coach for 40 games from 2008 to 2010. He replaced Mike Nolan during the 2008 season. He was previously San Francisco's assistant head coach and linebackers coach under Nolan. Singletary coached the Ravens linebackers in 2003 and 2004. The Bears interviewed Colts defensive backs coach Jonathan Gannon on Tuesday, a league source told The Athletic. THE SIZZLE! The talk of the 219!

Host Ian Hartitz breaks down the fantasy football value of the Bills backfield ahead of the 2021 season. Basically everything went right for this Bills offense in 2020, except for enabling a fantasy-friendly running back. This doesn't mean either Devin Singletary or Zack Moss are bad; they each boast their fair share of strengths and weaknesses like any other professional running back. Rather, Josh Allen's tendencies to scramble and not check the ball down has made it tough for any running back to thrive in Buffalo since 2018. The good news for Moss: he might just have a pretty damn good chance of taking over in 2021, and his cost is affordable as hell. Ian concludes the podcast with Moss and Singletary's specific fantasy ranking as well as a rIANt about people caring too much about being verified on Twitter.

The weekend ahead is further proof.  The list of visitors headed for Columbus and Tuscaloosa are star-studded to say the least. Given so many elite prospects in question will come down to an Ohio State-Alabama decision, it's clear how weighty this weekend is. 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong is here to preview both talent gatherings and who to watch. On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D’Amico continue their offseason State of the Bills series of podcasts by breaking down and reviewing the contributions the Bills got from their running backs during the 2020 season. The Bills set a franchise record for points scored in a season (501) and tied the record for most wins in a season (13) despite getting below-average and inconsistent production from their running backs. From general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott to offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, everyone at One Bills Drive has agreed that the Bills need to run the football better in 2021. Devin Singletary led the team with 687 yards while Zack Moss had 481, and they averaged 4.4 and 4.3 yards per attempt, but after how Singletary finished during his rookie season and after the Bills spent a third-round pick on Moss, most Bills fans went into 2020 thinking the team had a strong 1-2 tandem in the ground game. That wasn't the case this year, as Buffalo ranked 25th in the NFL in yards gained by running backs (T.J. Yeldon and Antonio Williams added 133 combined rushing yards). The Bills had the fourth-highest percentage of runs that were stuffed, plays that lost yards or gained nothing, or one out of every 9.7 attempts. While much of the blame can be placed on an offensive line that often failed to open up holes and used seven different starting combinations, how much of the blame should be placed on the backs? Do the Bills need to add to the running back group to find more balance in 2021? We dissect what the Bills can do to fix their ailing ground game and run through the strengths and weaknesses of Singletary and Moss, highlighting where each back improved in 2020 while offering up areas for improvement in 2021. We sift through the rest of the backs (including Williams, free agents T.J. Yeldon and Taiwan Jones, and fan favorite Christian Wade) to see what the Bills have at running back, discussing whether Beane should use pick No. 30 to upgrade the running back room, whether there are any free agents who make sense to sign, and more.
