Garden designer Peter Donegan returned to the HortWeek Podcast fresh from the 116th Royal Windsor flower show in June where he enjoyed the "humbling compliment" of judging alongside a "who's who" of garden industry including former Chelsea shows manager Alex Denman, Rob Hardy of Harkness Roses and Alan Titchmarsh. He reflects on his trajectory from a 'geeky' kid growing plants under his bed, on top of the wardrobe and in the garage to his grown up self (resembling "Something out of a bad boyband") and enjoying "everything that is a daydream for this tall person".Donegan was impressed with the young blood coming through at Windsor and the standard of entries by 16 year olds into adult categories: "Who or what is behind the scenes who is making this happen with a new generation?" he asks. The conversation turns to the skills shortage the need for change in the industry to attract young people. He lauds the YPHA (Young People in Horticulture Association) as an organisation enabling "young people speaking to the elders about how change might happen". What is needed, he says, is "for it not to be perceived as an industry where you have an old man in a potting shed - it's now changing and very much for the better".Peter tells Rachael Forsyth about some of his standout projects including a school's garden at Mercy College, Sligo, where the regulation "raised beds" were ditched a more adventurous concept and something not in line with "how the adults see things" but "what the younger minds actually want".Another highlight was a flying visit to the Melbourne International Flower Garden Show where he "strolled in like one of the Bee Gees" and won Gold for his show garden with a project that converted "daydream to equation and only ever appeared like a daydream". The Bamstone garden included a feature that aspired to give the illusion of walking on water; Peter gives full credit to the growers and contractors who helped make it a reality. He discusses the emotion involved in explaining some of the heartbreaking back-story of the garden and talks about how emotion enters into many of his TV gardens to provide escapism and disguise the "equations" required to produce the "daydreams".At the time of recording Peter was set to give an online lecture to 1600 landscape architects and designers from Ukraine alongside other high profile designers from the UK where he hopes the talk will provide a temporary distraction from the ongoing conflict.Peter also celebrates his company gaining SGD membership where his project list was examined in detail: "It transpires for about four years solid all I had done was TV gardens, French castles and show gardens... I apologise for that and getting above my station, again!" Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Today's episode is with Rob Hardy from LGBTIQ+ Health Australia, or LHA for short, about supporting LGBTI older adults in care, and some barriers and challenges to care that we may not have thought. LHA are the peak body focusing on health services for LGBTIQ+ Australians and they tackle areas like mental health, disability, palliative and also their aged care project Silver Rainbow, which you can find out more about on their website: https://www.lgbtiqhealth.org.au/ This can be an uncomfortable topic for some people, and Rob does a great job of explaining what all the letters mean, what are some common experiences for LGBTI people and how we can be sensitive and supportive of people's gender and sexuality even if it all feels a bit unfamiliar. As always you can hear Daniella and Maurie's take and thoughts about these ideas in their show Who Cares? which is released every Friday. Northfield, Minn., has a poet laureate, Rob Hardy, who recommends an interactive musical experience: The Musical Portraits of Northfield. Landmarks throughout town are posted with QR codes that, when scanned with your smartphone, play songs by Louis and Dan and the Invisible Band. Hardy compares their upbeat sound and kid-friendly lyrics to the band They Might Be Giants. Courtesy of Louis and Dan and the Invisible Band Landmarks throughout Northfield are posted with QR codes that play songs by Louis and Dan and the Invisible Band when scanned with your smartphone. With their clever lyrics and rhymes, each song tells the story of a different Northfield landmark. Together, they make a techie scavenger hunt for families. Hardy says the song about Bridge Square always gets stuck in his head: “Bridge Square, it's not a real square. It's a trapezoid / you should not avoid.” Archie Barbier of St. Paul discovered the music of DJ Ariesfirebomb over the pandemic, watching their Friday night dance parties on Twitch. “They are someone that's going to get the party started no matter where you are,” said Barbier. Blending music of different styles across the decades, Ariesfirebomb creates “a black, queer, safe environment within their music, and within all of their performances.” In addition to Twitch, they are active on Instagram, where Barbier says he's learned so much about the cultural history of music. Ariesfirebomb has a live show Friday at the Fine Line in Minneapolis. The 9 p.m. show is for audiences 18 and over. President of the Twin Cities Cabaret Artists Network, Jennifer Eckes is excited about a Friday show by jazz vocalist Katia Cardenas. Cardenas sings jazz infused with R&B and pop. Cardenas suffered a vocal injury three years ago. Over the pandemic, she strengthened her voice and wrote original songs. Eckes calls Cardenas a vibrant performer and an up and coming musician to watch. The concert is at 8 p.m. at the Granada Theater, the renovated former Suburban World in Uptown. Can't see video? A fair bit of dillydallying on this episode before the discussion on Alex Garland's criminally underseen Annihilation including a (very) lengthy discussion on WandaVision and the Disney's grey morality as a content/art provider, a less lengthy discussion at 27:46 about why we'd rather fight with Cthulhu than Haku, and the least lengthy news at 34:32 that Spike Lee is producing a Cthulhu film for Netflix. At 36:54 we get to the main event, a discussion on Annihilation, a sci-fi that was so brilliant in its existential musings that Paramount had no idea what to do with it, dumping it into a late February 2018 release with little fanfare. With gorgeous cinematography from Rob Hardy and marvelously understated writing and direction from Garland, Annihilation was one of the best films of 2018 and is arguably the best adaptation of "The Color Out of Space" you'll ever see - even though, ostensibly, it has nothing to do with the classic Lovecraft sci-fi/horror story.

Rob Hardy flyger solo i veckans episod.

Today on Filmmaker Freedom, a super in-depth interview with Marcus Mizelle.Marcus is a multi-talented filmmaker with three micro-budget features under his belt, and that's alongside a prolific career directing music videos, working in the grip department, and being a writer/producer. And pretty soon, he's launching an entirely new kind of film festival dedicated specifically for us micro-budget folks. It's called the Micro Film Tournament, and it looks pretty rad.Anyhow, this conversation was a blast, and we touch on so many aspects of what it really takes to succeed in this brutal business.Hope you dig it :)Full Transcripts & ArchiveEach solo episode of Filmmaker Freedom (not the interviews) has a complete written transcript so that you can revisit the ideas quickly and easily. You can find those transcripts, as well as the full archive of shows, right here:www.filmfreedomshow.comA Weekly Newsletter for Ambitious FilmmakersEvery Sunday morning, I send out a handful of stories, carefully picked to help you make films you care about, build a business, and master your psychology. So, you’ve chosen the perfect niche for your films. And you’ve done the research to ensure it can support you financially. Now what?Well, one option is to just start making films and marketing yourself.Just taking those two prerequisite steps—finding and validating your niche—puts you ahead of 95% of other indie filmmakers in terms of building a sustainable business around your work. But I’d be remiss if I didn’t share the final piece to this niche puzzle—one that’ll help you create and communicate in such magnetic, compelling ways that when you release a new film, the folks in your niche won’t be able to whip out their wallets fast enough. It’s a technique called “audience mapping,” and it’ll be your secret weapon for creating content and telling stories that are so specific, so emotionally-resonant, and so custom-tailored to your niche, that people will feel like you’re reading their minds. They’ll feel connected to you and your work in ways that most filmmakers never experience. It’s that connection that opens the door to creating true fans, and building a sustainable long term business around films you care about. That, my friend, the power of an audience map, and you’re about to learn exactly how to create one of your own.Full Transcripts & ArchiveEach solo episode of Filmmaker Freedom (not the interviews) has a complete written transcript so that you can revisit the ideas quickly and easily. In the Art of War, Sun Tzu tells us, “victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win." If your goal is to earn a living from your films, this is wisdom to live by. I mean, what if you could virtually guarantee your film would be profitable before you ever wrote a word or shot a frame? What if you knew—with a high degree of certainty—that if you engaged a particular niche, you’d be able to build a sustainable, enjoyable business by producing films for them? That’d be pretty rad, right? It’d take so much of the pressure off when it comes to raising money and distributing your films. With that kind of certainty, you’d be able to focus more of your energy on telling stories you care about. You’d be able to spend more time doing what you love, and less time worried about whether your efforts would ever pay off. Once you work through the research strategies in this article, you will have that kind of certainty. You’ll be able to win the brutal war for audience attention before ever stepping foot on the battlefield. So let’s get to it. Today on Filmmaker Freedom, the only sustainable way for micro-budget filmmakers to win the brutal war for audience attention. This is a war being dominated right now by the likes of Netflix, Disney, YouTube, Facebook, and plenty of others. You might not think you have much chance of competing against companies like this, with their multibillion dollar content and marketing budgets. But when you shift your focus and niche down, you absolutely can.In fact, there’s surprising power and freedom in creating niche media in a world where everyone else is obsessed with reaching bigger, broader, more generic audiences. When done right, it’s a shift that allows you to tell stories you care about to a genuinely receptive audience, and ultimately make a living doing what you love.Sound good? Let’s get to it.Full Transcripts & ArchiveEach solo episode of Filmmaker Freedom (not the interviews) has a complete written transcript so that you can revisit the ideas quickly and easily. Today on Filmmaker Freedom, how to approach building an audience for your films, and do it in a way that leads to sustainable revenue with minimal work. That might sound like a hyperbolic promise, but I guarantee you it's not. There are two foundational missteps that entrepreneurial filmmakers tend to make when building audiences, and these strategic errors limit how much you can earn from your films, while dramatically increasing the amount of work you have to do. Basically, if you're not careful, you might end doing more work for less money. And that's no bueno. So today, you're going to learn a concept that I call the dichotomies of audience building, and come out the other side with a smart, strategic approach that will serve you well in your entrepreneurial filmmaking journey for years to come. Enjoy :)Full Transcripts & ArchiveEach solo episode of Filmmaker Freedom (not the interviews) has a complete written transcript so that you can revisit the ideas quickly and easily. Today on Filmmaker Freedom, an interview with Jason Zink.Jason's directed several micro-budget, DIY features, all in the realm of horror and punk rock. His latest is called Straight Edge Kegger, which looks awesome. He's also experienced first hand just how predatory some traditional distribution deals can be.So in our wide-ranging conversation, we go deep on Jason's ethos for making cool, grungy flicks that he and his team can be proud of, what to watch out for when offered distribution, his plan for staging a DIY tour for his current film, and a whole lot more. It's a fun conversation, and I hope you dig it.Full Transcripts & ArchiveEach solo episode of Filmmaker Freedom (not the interviews) has a complete written transcript so that you can revisit the ideas quickly and easily. Today on Filmmaker Freedom, an in-depth interview with Mike Dion. Now, Mike's not a household name in the film community, but to my mind, he's one of the real pioneers of indie film entrepreneurship. In fact, since 2010 Mike's put out a handful of features that appeal to an extremely small, niche audience. But despite the size of the niche, Mike's managed to make a good living for himself—without film festivals, distributors, sales agents, or any middle men whatsoever. Instead, Mike has figured out how to sell directly to fans, put on his own theatrical tours, create cool physical products, and lots more. He even created something called the Whole World Wide Premiere, where you create an amazing in-person event for your film, but then livestream it to the world and charge for access. Point is, Mike has been on the cutting edge of direct distribution for a long time. And today, you're going to hear his story, and get the inside scoop on some of the strategies he's used to make the films he loves, and make a living completely independent of the industry. So let's get to it. Full Transcripts & Archive Each solo episode of Filmmaker Freedom (not the interviews) has a complete written transcript so that you can revisit the ideas quickly and easily. Today on Filmmaker Freedom, we’re going to kill one of the sacred cows of indie filmmaking culture. Film festivals. We’re going to dissect, point by point, why festivals aren’t all they’re cracked up to be, especially if your goal is to make money with your work. In fact, by the time we get to the end of this episode, you might just be convinced, as I am, that the vast majority of festivals are a waste of time and money. So let’s get to it. Today on Filmmaker Freedom, an in-depth interview with Clara Lehmann and Jonathan Lacocque. Clara and Jonathan are the co-founders of Coat of Arms, a full service production and post studio that's created work for some of the biggest companies on earth. Think Google, Microsoft, Land Rover, Marriott, WebMD, and way more. They also take their passion projects very seriously. They've made short animated films and documentaries. They made a web series that was nominated for a Webby award. They've done music videos. And currently, they're in the process of releasing their first feature length doc. Oh, and they're married to one another. Anyhow, over the course of this wide-ranging interview, we talk about the mechanics of building a successful production company, working directly with large corporate clients without having to go through an ad agency, pursuing passion projects in the midst of a running a business, creating work that you can be proud of, and quite a bit more. It's a damn good conversation, and I hope you dig it. Today on Filmmaker Freedom, the three types of audiences you’ll need to understand if you want to make a living selling directly to your fans. We’ll also dig into one of the biggest mistakes I see again and again from indie filmmakers who want to create content, reach people online, and sell their films. Problem is, they do it in the most ineffective way possible. We're gonna fix that. So by the end of this episode, you’ll have newfound clarity on how to use your energy for maximum impact when reaching online. audiences and selling your films. Pretty meta, right? But it's working, as the film has already broken even, and these two are just getting started with the process of monetizing it. Here's just a sampling of the fun stuff we covered in this conversation. What Chris and Mike learned from their fairly disastrous first attempt at making a feature film. The story behind their new film Generation Freedom, and why it's often a good idea to follow your curiosity and make the films you would want to see yourself. How the film breaks free from commodity pricing by providing significantly more value to its niche audience than other films. The innovative tiered business model that's helping them earn more from every sale of the film than they would otherwise. How they're using their many hours of raw material for the documentary to add additional value to their audience members. Their approach to email marketing that's driving even more revenue. How Mike and Chris reached some of the biggest names in online business to appear in their film and give it massive credibility within the niche. A handful of tactics they're currently using to promote the film and build a business around it. And plenty more. So I hope you're excited, because this is a damn good conversation with lots of useful takeaways. Enjoy. Alex Ferrari is the founder of Indie Film Hustle, one of the most popular indie film podcasts and blogs around. He's also got a streaming platform called Indie Film Hustle TV and a book called Shooting for the Mob about his insane early experiences in film. Not to mention he's made two micro-budget films in the last 3 years, and both have been profitable. So here's a rundown of the fun stuff we cover in this wide-ranging conversation. Alex's "stranger than fiction" true story of almost making a feature film for a mobster. How many filmmakers hold themselves back through limiting beliefs and stories, and how to get out of your own way. The various ways that filmmakers shoot themselves in How Alex made $90,000 selling a short film (yes, really). The improvisational techniques Alex used to make his first two feature films quickly and cheaply. What to look out for when you get offered a distribution deal so that you don't get taken advantage of. The one item to include in every distribution contract you sign. What Alex has learned from the entrepreneurial filmmaking guests on his podcast. And plenty more good stuff. Today on Filmmaker Freedom, a crash course in what it really means to build an audience, and how to approach this process in a way that will lead you to a profitable, fulfilling business selling your films directly to fans. Trust me, there are a lot of misconceptions out there about audience building, and it's easy to spend months or years going down a rabbit hole that leads nowhere. So buckle up, because today we're going to set the record straight, and build a strong foundation for all future episodes of this podcast. Liz Manashil is pretty prolific when it comes to writing and directing micro-budget features. I actually found out about Liz a few years ago after her first feature, Bread and Butter, recouped its budget, and she wrote a great article for MovieMaker transparently sharing those numbers and revenue streams. These days, Liz just finished her second feature, Speed of Life, and is taking it around the festival circuit, hammering out a unique distribution deal for it, and planning a DIY theatrical run that includes a David Bowie cover band, all of which we talk about in our conversation. And finally, she's in the early stages on a new feature called Lady Parts, that's honestly got one of the funnier crowdfunding pitch videos I've ever seen. Anyhow, here's a rundown of what we talk about in this interview. The totally awesome name of Liz's dog (and the not-quite-as-awesome name of our cat) What Liz learned from conducting the largest ever survey of distributors to find out what they look for in a film. How Liz makes sure she doesn't get screwed when negotiating a distribution deal. Why and how Liz is booking her own short theatrical run for her latest feature, and why she's hiring a David Bowie cover band to play those shows. How Liz attracts and attaches big name talent to her micro-budget features. Liz's history with crowdfunding, and how she consistently manages to raise money for her films through that channel. The last episode of Filmmaker Freedom was a bit of a downer. We talked about why indie filmmaking is rarely a good business, and why most filmmakers can never make a living from it. But today, I'm sharing a new paradigm, one that goes against everything you've ever learned about making and selling films. And when you adopt this paradigm, you'll quickly see that it actually is possible for indie film to be a viable business. Today on Filmmaker Freedom, perhaps the most depressing episode of this show I'll ever make. We’re going to dig into the horrifying economic realities of making and distributing indie films. We’ll get into why most DIY distribution is bound to fail, and why you should be wary of distribution deal. I guarantee by the end you’ll be disheartened. Don’t worry though. This is just part 1 of 2, and in the next episode, I’m going to show you a number of counterintuitive ways to shift this bad economic situation in your favor. So hang in there, and let’s unwind this economic mess together, shall we. Hey friend, long time no see. I hadn't been planning on releasing new episodes of Filmmaker Freedom this year, but events transpired that completely shifted those plans. And now, I'm happy to announce that Filmmaker Freedom will be a weekly show from now on, and it will be primarily focused on entrepreneurial indie filmmakers. In other words, if your goal is the make the films you care most about, and earn a sustainable living from those films, you'll learn how on this new variation of Filmmaker Freedom. I'll teach you everything I know about building niche audiences online, selling directly to your fans, and cutting out the shitty middle men that have made the indie film business so untenable for so many years. Basically, we're going to achieve "filmmaker freedom" together, in the truest sense of that phrase. So if that sounds like something you'd enjoy, please do tune in to today's teaser episode. I'll tell you the full story of how we got here, and where we're going. Cheers, -Rob Hardy
So you’ve made an awesome film and now it’s time to launch it. Sure you could go through a distribution company, but what if you could cut out the middleman and do it yourself? It’s a good thing that I have a guest today who lays out the blueprint on just how you can do this while maximizing your profits! Today we welcome Rob Hardy back to the podcast. He is a filmmaker and entrepreneur who runs Filmmaker Freedom, a blog and growing community of indie filmmakers where he guides readers on how to redefine success for themselves, according to their own circumstances, talents, and values. He is passionate about helping indie filmmakers build their online audiences so they can cut out the middleman in this process and truly support themselves doing what they love. Today we are having a raw and honest conversation about finding your audience and figuring out how to best serve them. This might involve getting your work directly to your audience without going through an expensive distribution company. Throughout this interview, Tom shares some great ideas on how you can start building your audience right away and launch your film yourself so that you can best serve your audience all the while making more money for yourself. Have you launched a film yourself? Tell me what you learned through this process in the comments on the episode page! In this episode: The role of filmmakers indirectly serving their audiences Red flags to look out for if you’re going to work with a distribution company How to build an enthusiastic audience long before your work is even finished The importance of building an audience and how your email list can become the lifeblood of your business How to launch your work yourself all while driving up its value and increasing the excitement around it Harnessing the identity feedback loop of your niche to create profitable and meaningful connections with your audience Quotes: “It really is about finding that group of people, ideally people who are like you and who you care about helping, get something in their lives. Obviously, if you’re making films, you’re not going to solve some burning problem they have in their life, but you can serve their identity. You can give them something that uplifting, that makes them think.” [7:46] “Who are the people or companies who hold your set of values, who share some piece of your own identity, who you would want to grab a beer with at the end of the day? Who are those people and what do they need in their lives? What do they need in their businesses? It’s sort of like a grand human principle.” [12:37] “You just have to be creative and come up with bonuses that people in this niche will love. Just by nature of being in this niche and serving this niche, you should know them inside and out. You should have a clear psychographic profile for who these people are, what their day-to-day lives look like, what they want, what their fears and dreams and desires are. That’s what marketing is.” [31:23] “Not only do you have to take responsibility for your work and the things that you make, but you have to take responsibility for what happens once the work is finished. The world does not take care of that work for you.” [46:19] Links: Find Rob Hardy online Follow Rob on Instagram | Twitter | Facebook Sign up for Rob’s newsletter Patreon Studio Sherpas Episode 12 with Tom Hardy Additional Links: Check out the full show notes page Do you have something to share on this podcast? /Fred & Rob Hardy

The last time Peter Donegan spoke with Mark Diacono was 2015. Where does the time go. And honestly don't even answer that question. Anyhoo. At that time, Otter Farm hadn't really got off the ground or, was not yet a structure if that makes better sense. Back to this episode; I'm at Chelsea, in the floral pavillion. Former guest, fellow Arsenal fan and absolute legend The Rob Hardy comes running out and throws his arms around me and when I turn around The Diacono is there. With thanks to Catherine and the team at CED Natural Stone for organising this one and making the RHS Chelsea episodes possible. The Sodshow is available every Friday in iTunes, all good podcast stores and www.sodshow.com Sometimes and for the greater we are going our separate ways or, we are at an awards thingymajig, but on this occasion we get chatting and I'm hesitant to pull out the microphone because it doesn't always have to be recorded and friends are allowed to just chat and shoot the breeze, if you will. But like being an Undertones fan and asking yet not asking a girl to dance it crops up in conversation. Ten minutes he says, I got ten. I'll need 30, I reply. 15 says Mark. I'm half way to an Andy Kaufman story here but we settle for something as versus nothing and it ended up as 30. I'm always grateful for peoples time. This one meant a lot. It's a little funny with the microphone there. And we've recorded inside a shepherds hut - which is an odd sensation listening back; but it's good and I hope you enjoy it. And thank you. Thank you for taking the time to listen. Much thanks, always X Peter Twitter: @sodshow facebook: The Sodshow instagram: sodshow Further info: web: www.otterfarm.co.uk twitter: @markdiacono facebook: otterfarm Further info: web: CED Stone facebook: CED Stone Group twitter: @CEDNaturalStone
Between the Frames is a set of sub-episodes wherein Chris probes far deeper into specific facets of each filmmaking stage covered thus far. He explores some important practices, disciplines, philosophies and skills that may have been previously glossed over, under discussed, or all together undiscussed. In this inaugural Between The Frames, Chris discusses some specific pre-production topics including: Balancing Time and Money Organization Communication Negotiation Time Management Honesty He covers their importance and some best practices to get the most out of each. He also recommends a long list of tools and resources in the form of books, apps, and podcasts that serve the pre-production process, from organization to time management and communication. Here they are: Independent Ed, by Edward Burns - In this hugely inspiring chronicle, Burns recounts his rise to prominence as an independent filmmaker and actor, the career lull, and his resurgence when he discovered micro-budget filmmaking. It’s detailed and highly inspiring. Think Outside The Box Office, by Jon Reiss - Though aspects of this book are a bit dated (see below blog), Box Office is a 21st century distribution manual for the independent filmmaker, at it’ll help you budget appropriately for the best possible outcome. Jon Reiss’ blog - This is also a great resource containing a great deal of updated distribution information and resources to help you better plan ahead in prep. Creativity Inc., by Ed Catmull and Amy Wallace - Pixar’s co-founder and CEO outlines the history of the great cinematic institution, and the many internal processes lending to their amazing track record. ShoHawk’s Creativity Inc. post - In this post, Mike synopsizes the important lessons he gleaned from the book. ShoHawk’s Pixar Braintrust post - In this post, Mike dives deep into the actual structure of Pixar’s braintrust and how to build and organize your own. The 4 Hour Work Week, by Tim Ferriss - This watershed book in productivity and professional efficiency has probably done more to shape the modern workforce than any other book, and it remains an exceptional tool for time management sharpening. Never Split The Difference, by Chris Voss - Former CIA hostage negotiator Voss deconstructs the art and science of successful negotiation, with the subtitle: “How to negotiate as though your life depended on it.” SCRUM Workflow - This is a task management philosophy commonly used in software and coding. It is meant to streamline allocation of time and break down large tasks into smaller, executable chunks. Trello - An excellent digital tool for breaking down tasks, organizing them, and visually managing the SCRUM workflow. Evernote - Chris’ “idea” organization tool of choice—the digital equivalent of carrying a backpack full of unlimited notebooks with unlimited pages. ShoHawk’s Evernote post - Chris outlines his specific process for organization using Evernote, including specific notebooks he’s created. Film Trooper - Scott McMahon’s extensive blog and podcast covering a host of filmmaking topics, including funding, prep, SAG (this is where our SAG segment with Michele Gibson originated), and more. Scott is also a fellow Portlander—Rip City baby! No Film School Podcast - Specifically, the First Feature AMATEUR podcast. It’s housed within the NFS podcast channel, so you kind of have to hunt around for it. But it’s a worthwhile look at the process of making a film, particularly from scripting to production. Filmmaker Freedom podcast - Rob Hardy has done a fantastic job of structuring an entire season around making a living as a filmmaker, including by reverse-engineering feature films around an audience, from the beginning. Show Don’t Tell podcast - Noam Kroll’s podcast gives you most everything you need to know about making a micro-budget feature, including thinking tactically about preparation. This week, Michael Hurley welcomes Sports Hub host Rob Poole -- better known to listeners as "Hardy" -- on the podcast (2:35). Hardy talks about how he landed a role acting as an extra in a David Ortiz commercial (6:30), and he reveals how he got his nickname (8:08) and recalls his time as a DJ for WBCN (11:00) while discussing the decline of major rock radio stations. Hardy also talked about what life was like working as a DJ for a rock station in Las Vegas (21:38). He then shares the experience of transitioning into sports talk radio on the Hub in 2009 (26:08) and the many challenges that come with it. And the conversation couldn't end with Hardy being asked what it's like to work next to Scott Zolak every day for eight years (47:00).See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Find the original post at: podcast.studiosherpas.com If you’re like me, at some point in your life you’ve probably aspired to making it big and breaking into Hollywood as a director, producer, DP, editor, etc. But where did this idea of success come from? Rob Hardy was an indie filmmaker working 18 hours days on projects he wasn’t passionate about, with people he didn’t click with, burning himself trying to achieve that goal. He was at the point of asking himself if he even wanted to be a filmmaker before realizing that there were many paths to a successful film career, most of which don’t lead to Hollywood. Rob now runs The Filmmaker’s Process, a blog and growing community of indie filmmakers where he guides readers on how to redefine success for themselves, according to their own circumstances, talents, and values. He's also passionate about building a worldwide directory of film professionals to make it easier to connect with partners for our creative projects. Few if any of us will realize the dream of consistently working on Hollywood films, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t create fulfilling and successful film careers on our own. It just means we need to think hard about what success means to us and take one small step at a time to get us there.

The writers have written so well for me and I've had such an incredible arc. It made sense to me creatively. Laurel's story has come to an end in the Arrowverse. I love everyone on set and our crew. Being there for four and a half years, they've become family, so it's hard to not go into work every day and get to work with such amazing people. That part is certainly sad, but I was okay with it. We all came to an understanding that this was what was going to happen and it made sense to me. I think the shock value is good. It's such a jolt and a turn in the story that it gives the writers so much more to do and places to go with it. Otherwise, I feel like shows can get stale. As we gear up for the start of the new Football season on this side of the pond, Inie and James welcome Sam Tuckey and Rob Hardy from the defending UK Champions the London Blitz to talk about their upcoming European home opener against the Copenhagen Towers. The lads also welcome London Blitz assistant coach and unanimously acclaimed favourite guest of North London 40, Joe Cohen to talk some more Blitz, some Browns and a little NCAA tournament wrap up. It's not all sports this week as Inie and James kill some time at the end, bemoaning but providing no solution to the current lack of comedy amongst the crop of this weeks titanic American TV.
Who knew all this about Detective Kevin Ryan?! Wow! Certainly the #Castle showrunner Andrew W. Marlowe did and the writer of this Ryan-centric episode [long time Castle guru], Terence Paul Winter. Through this murder we learned some very interesting back stories on Ryan – who’s past was NOT quite as simple as perhaps we thought. We learned he was deep undercover with the Irish mob before joining Beckett's team and even had a tumultuous pre-Jenny romance.. This episode was directed by Rob Hardy and regardless of the murder; I really REALLY wanted a cupcake long after the episode from eyeing them at the beginning. Hm, I wonder if those “non samples” were all just props and sprayed with multiple chemicals to look so delicious to us in their non-consumable state. On tonight’s STR we would love to hear what YOU thought about last night’s episode revolving around some of Kevin’s history and Jenny’s present life with him together. The bonus thread throughout the episode was learning of a positive shift in the confidence of Beckett in her relationship with Castle as demostrated by her fun teasing throughout resulting in new discovery about why Castle had the intense desire to write. Hope you can join us to talk about all this and those VERY thought provoking Caskett lines at the end of the episode.
