As young adults, this is the season of life when we make some of the biggest decisions of our lives. So, who or what we allow to influence our decision-making is of utmost importance. But if we're not careful - if we get caught up in the current of the culture of our generation - we can end up listening to and being influenced by and following some really bad advice. So in this series, we're gonna take a few pieces of advice that we all hear all the time - worldly wisdom - and filter them through and compare and contrast them with the infallible, inerrant, perfect, ultimate source of Truth and Wisdom = the Word of God.In this message, we wrap up this series by looking at a piece of advice that on the surface, sounds good and biblical, until it happens. “God will never give you more than you can handle” is close to a biblical truth, but not fully. Often, God actually will give us more than we can handle. So in this message, we look at 6 reasons why.We hope you're encouraged by this podcast! In Psalm 1, we get the picture of the person who is righteous and walking with God being like a healthy tree, planted in the ground by a stream, with roots going deep down in the rich soil towards the water, weathering whatever storms come, and bearing sweet fruit in season. This is how God made us and wants us to live. In our lives, we grow closer to Him by growing deeper. So in this series, we're looking at three ways - otherwise known as “spiritual disciplines” - that we can grow deeper and closer in our relationship with God by being rooted in Him.In this message, we wrap up our series by looking at the spiritual discipline of rest. Whether or not we're always conscious of it, we are all in a spiritual war. So, we need this prayer. But just like we've been doing every week in this series, we need to see exactly what it is we're asking for when we pray like this. This is the way to pray Jesus is teaching us, so if we want to pray this request, we have to know: 1) who we're fighting, 2) what we're fighting with, and 3) how to fight. Each of us, deep in our hearts, has a desire to communicate with God. As young adults in our world today, we see the need and have the desire for a great prayer life. But how can we know our prayers are actually being heard and answered? Jesus in The Lord's Prayer teaches us how.In this message, we look at what may be the most difficult of the six requests in The Lord's Prayer to pray: “Your will be done.” To pray this prayer is to surrender our will fully to God's will. It means we have to totally trust God's power, heart, and plan for us… just like Jesus did in the Garden of Gethsemane. We hope you're encouraged by this podcast! But how can we know our prayers are actually being heard and answered? Jesus in The Lord's Prayer teaches us how. In this message, we learn what Jesus is teaching us about one of the most important doctrinal truths of Christianity: the "already/not yet" of the Kingdom of God. God has a kingdom, and He has a people in His kingdom, and there is a King. And His kingdom is here on earth already, but not yet experienced in its fullness. So as we pray, if we are going to ask for the Kingdom of God to come, we need to know the answer to the three main questions that come up with this topic: 1) What is the Kingdom of God?, 2) Where is the Kingdom of God?, 3) What am I asking for when I pray for it to come?  We hope you're encouraged by this podcast! If you have questions about our church or what it means to follow Jesus, we'd love to hear from you! Check out our Instagram @fellowshipya, website www.fellowshipar.com/young-adults, or send us at email at youngadults@fellowshipar.com. We were never meant to do life alone. And yet, in our culture today, our generation is becoming increasingly isolated and lonely. It's even been described as a “loneliness epidemic.” But it doesn't have to be this way! In fact, we were made for real community. Community that is healthy, life-giving, and focused on deep relationships with others, and most-importantly, with God. And this type of community is often not found, it's forged. So to wrap up this series, the last thing we need to know about Christian community is that it's not just for those who are a part of it, but for those who aren't yet. We have a purpose, a reason, a goal to strive towards. And in John 17, in Jesus' "High Priestly prayer," we see that He is calling us as His community to unity, to share the gospel, and to experience God's glory as we gather together on mission to make disciples. How does faith change a person? How should someone who has been saved by Jesus Christ now live? This is what the book of James is all about. This week at YA Night, we're talking about the relationship between faith and good works. We're really answering the questions: What is the difference between someone who just looks like a Christian on the outside, and someone who is actually a Christian on the inside? What's the difference between faith that's "alive," and faith that's "dead?" What's the difference between a demon, and someone who has saving faith in Jesus Christ? This is what James 2 is all about.
