There are some sort-of divisive issues, and then there are hyper-divisive issues. Will our leadership find ways to unify the nation on the most incendiary issues — Kill-Pill by Mail and Transgenderism? But then, the anti-Christian agenda is erupting into violence as well. Post-Christian apostasy can get violent. We draw in the post-Christian roots of the Nazi inner circle, and note the danger of it.

We are living in what many call a post-Christian culture. Unlike nations that have never heard the Gospel, our society has heard of Jesus and decided it has “moved beyond” Him. But while culture claims to evolve past Christian faith, it still lives off the fruit of it: justice, love, compassion, generosity. These values did not come from nowhere, they were planted by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
In this conversation, Jason sits down with Dom Ruso, pastor of The 180 Church in Greater Montreal, to talk about the joys and challenges of church planting in one of the most secularized contexts in North America.Dom shares openly about his discernment journey, how God drew him and his wife back to Quebec despite initial resistance, and what it has looked like to build a church community from scratch in a region where many are spiritually open but institutionally skeptical.Jason and Dom explore themes that matter deeply to pastors today:Dom's honest wrestle with returning to Quebec, and the slow ways God confirmed the call to plant a church there. The unique dynamics of Quebec culture and what it means to preach the Bible in ways that connect with people who carry wounds from religion or who feel indifferent toward Christianity. How congregations can embody health and unity in a divided cultural landscape, and what Canada's regional differences can teach us about God's work across the country. Why it's not enough to “tell” people what the Bible says, but to invite them into its story, and how plot points of Scripture resonate with modern longings for justice, meaning, and identity. Why it matters to recover a distinct vision of pastoral calling, and how the overlap with modern leadership and coaching culture can blur what shepherding the people of God really means.Dom also talks about his new book, The Bible for a Shifting Secular Age, which brings together his pastoral experience and academic work to offer handles for understanding secularism and fresh ways of presenting Scripture today.Show Notes The 180 ChurchThe Bible for a Shifting Secular AgeGive to our $30,000 August Match CampaignFall 2025 Pastors Retreat at Barnabas LandingThe Pastorate Listener SurveyThank You to Our Episode SponsorSpecial thanks to the Canadian Bible Society for making this episode possible. Send me a text! I'd love to know what you're thinking!More and more, we find ourselves living in what we might call a post-Christian society. And more and more, preachers and ministry leaders are finding that the methods they were trained in don't always resonate in a post-Christian context. In this episode, Mark Glanville, the author of Preaching in a New Key, brings together his experience as a jazz musician, pastor, and a scholar of the Old Testament to invite us into a new vision for preaching—one that helps us navigate the transition from Christian to post-Christian culture. THIS EPISODE'S HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:Mark Glanville explains that both jazz and Christian faith involve learning and internalizing tradition, then improvising freshly within it.Jazz musicians practice and absorb the rhythms and melodies of their tradition, but always play something new in performance.Mark Glanville illustrates how biblical preachers should immerse themselves in scripture, becoming shaped by its themes and stories, much like jazz musicians learn their craft. The biblical tradition requires creative and contextual re-interpretation, as seen in how ancient scribes reimagined the metaphor of covenant.Preaching in a post-Christian society means recognizing that faith no longer enjoys cultural support and must grapple with mixed experiences of doubt and trust.Mark Glanville describes post-Christian contexts as places where church and societal values diverge, making the preaching task more complex.Congregants bring complex emotional and spiritual questions to church, rather than the simple expectation of receiving trusted doctrine.Markus Watson notes that contemporary preaching requires greater sensitivity, awareness of listeners' stories, and often more lyrical, dialogical communication.Mark Glanville emphasizes gaining relational intelligence through ongoing pastoral conversations and deep listening with parishioners.Preaching today involves “reversing the flow”—rather than proclaiming “thus says the Lord,” preachers reveal the beauty of Jesus within the text and invite fresh connection.Mark Glanville highlights that healthy preaching depends on the preacher's own healthy inner and emotional life.Preachers must recognize when they are operating from their “defended self”—speaking from wounds or fear, rather than from a secure, loving place in Christ.Scripture addresses communities, not individuals, so preaching should prioritize communal formation and invite congregations to embody Christ together.Mark Glanville encourages pastors to preach, model, and pray for the transformation they seek, stirring the congregation's collective imagination and trusting the Spirit to work through everyone, not just the leadership.RELEVANT RESOURCES AND LINKS:Mark Glanville:Website – www.markglanville.orgBlue Note Theology podcastBooks mentioned:Preaching in a New Key, by Mark GlanvilleRefuge Reimagined, by Mark Glanville and Luke GlanvilleRelated episodes:250. Rod Dreher is a bestselling author and cultural critic known for his incisive commentary on faith, politics, and modern society. His landmark books The Benedict Option and Live Not By Lies have shaped conversations on Christian resilience in an age of decline, while his newest work, Living in Wonder, turns inward, exploring beauty, suffering, and the search for meaning. Dreher's voice is unapologetically countercultural, drawing on Orthodox Christianity and a deep skepticism of modern ideological conformity.

The Christian cultural denominator has disappeared in our respective nations. But then, the Christians who remain can't make up their mind whether they are salt or not. Mass confusion reigns — with the two kingdom people, the Trumpy agenda, the antisemitic crowd, the arguers over strategy, the Sojourners, and the wokey evangelicals. There isn't much salt left, and whatever is left lacks flavor. The solution is the same — churches doing Matthew 28:20 and 2 Tim. 3:17. This program includes: 1. John Daniel Davidson has a wonderfully grounded sense of what is most important.Climbing up the ladder of influence in the literary world on a national stage, he realized that "careerism" isn't what makes us tick as much as finding a place to till and produce and live off the fat of the land with your family. It was Thomas Jefferson who said "Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals, and happiness."Davidson took that to heart and moved his family from Austin, Texas back to the family homestead in Wasilla where he was raised. He still writes prolifically as a Senior Editor for The Federalist and speaks around the country but his roots are getting deeper in the soil of the Mat Su Valley.I am blessed to chat with him on today's show and thrilled to remind readers that he will be our keynote speaker for our 2025 Spring Dinners in Anchorage next Thursday, May 29th at Main Event Grill and on Saturday, May 31st at his mom's horse barn called At the Barn MatSu, a beautiful venue nestled on their homestead. Please CLICK HERE to get your tickets and join us.For a taste of John's intellect and passion, I hope you can tune in today.Support the show

What do we mean by a Post-Christian world? Marcus explains and we talk with Tim Staples of Catholic Answers about the dangers of viewing the Papacy with American eyes.
In episode 4 of our series on the Cartography of the Christian religion we discuss the root causes that have led to what we see looking at the current map. To do this requires starting at the beginning or genesis of the Narrative. The story begins with Adam and progresses to Jesus who is called the last Adam. That sounds like a seamless story that defines a problem from its very start and then, over centuries of time, evolves into an entire paradigm identified as death. And whatever was the cause of death was removed by actions surrounding the role and function of Jesus the Christological individual and modeled by the Christological collective known as the body. We now discuss questions raised by our interpretation of this evolutionary story. Did Jesus “kind of” defeat death? Was death defeated for a small percentage of the human race? What was the root cause of death to begin with? And why does the story outline 2 possible identities starting with Adam and Abraham and evolve into a first century conflict between those identities that resulted in the coming of a new world paradigm? Why is universal God identity the outcome of the story? It's all about Christology.
What do we mean by a Post-Christian world? Marcus explains and we talk with Tim Staples of Catholic Answers about the dangers of viewing the Papacy with American eyes.

Ken Ham joins Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar to discuss the growing opposition to Christianity and how challenges can strengthen faith and spread the gospel. He shares how AIG faces protests but uses them as opportunities to witness with love. Reflecting on building The Ark Encounter, he explains that stepping out in faith can be daunting, but God provides. The discussion highlights Christianity's declining influence in the West, particularly among Generation Z, yet history shows faith thrives in times of persecution. Ken stresses the importance of biblical authority, as morality collapses without absolute truth. AIG equips believers with apologetics training to defend their faith confidently. The guys remind Christians that faith is not blind but responsible, and the ultimate solution to society's problems is the gospel. More and more church attendees are leaving the church, with Baptists and Presbyterians losing a percentage over the past several years. The concept I'll be using relating to map making is cartography. The audience for this series is any and everyone interested in having a global conversation for a new earth. All are welcome regardless of denominational affiliation or non-affiliation, Catholic or Protestant and those who are now post Christian or Trans-religious. The series will address the map as it evolved from the past, meaning how the map took shape in the first few centuries and then expanded into a world religion of thousands of denominations and factions. We will then address the map as to how it looks today. And I'll ask each of you to identify your place on today's map.

Whenever I talk about charity, a type that I'll call the “based post-Christian vitalist” shows up in the comments to tell me that I've got it all wrong. The moral impulse tells us to help our family, friends, and maybe village. It's a weird misfire, analogous to an auto-immune disease, to waste brain cycles on starving children in a far-off country who you'll never meet. You've been cucked by centuries of Christian propaganda. Instead of the slave morality that yokes you to loser victims who wouldn't give you the time of day if your situations were reversed, you should cultivate a master morality that lets you love the strong people who push forward human civilization. A younger and more naive person might think the based post-Christian vitalist and I have some irreconcilable moral difference. Moral argument can only determine which conclusions follow from certain premises. If premises are too different (for example, a intuitive feeling of compassion for others, vs. an intuitive feeling of strength and pitilessness), there's no way to proceed. https://www.astralcodexten.com/p/everyones-a-based-post-christian
In this week's conversation between Dr. James Emery White and co-host Alexis Drye, they discuss a recent decision from the Starbucks CEO to recapture the coffee company's identity as a “third place” - a place where “community is formed and civility is fostered.” Today's conversation was prompted by an article in The Atlantic that you can read HERE. For many years in the U.S., the church was a key “third place” in people's lives. This is something we've lost, and need to find a way - like Starbucks - to recapture. Episode Links The idea of the “third place” was made popular by Ray Oldenberg in his book The Great Good Place. While the home is the “first place,” and work/school is the “second place,” people longed for a “third place” where they could find community, creative interactions, and simply enjoy the pleasure of good company and conversation. As Dr. White noted in his book Meet Generation Z, for the younger generations the “third place” shifted from the coffee shop to the digital world - even to the point that they began to have online house parties and gatherings where they weren't physically together. Increasingly, though, people are looking for a blend of both - embodied experiences where they can gather together as well as community that they can forge online. This hybrid way of doing life is something that Dr. White explored extensively in his book Hybrid Church: Rethinking the Church for the Post-Christian, Digital Age. The command that Jesus gave to the Church in the Great Commission makes it clear that we need to be a church that is both reaching people for Jesus and helping them to grow in their faith. Evangelism and discipleship cannot be bracketed off from each other. Dr. White explained this so well in his description of the flywheel that represents the mission that all churches today must be on. If you'd like a really helpful overview of this, we'd encourage you to reach the Church & Culture blog titled “Turning Your Flywheel.” Finally, for those listeners who live in the Charlotte area, you heard Dr. White mention the Grounds Bookstore and Café at Mecklenburg Community Church. This has increasingly grown as a “third place,” bringing in not only people who attend the church, but also many who are just looking for a really good coffee shop. You can find out more about The Grounds HERE. In this episode we delve into such topics as how we continue to search for meaning and purpose in a post-truth world, how humans often find something to worship even in the absence of God, and how the power of imagination and story can help us find that which is true as we face each new day. Maria Francesca French is the author of Safer than the Known Way: A Post-Christian Journey and Reconfiguring: A Collection of Post-Christian and Theologies (Quoir Publishing). She has spent her career in theological education as both professor and administrator, holding two MAs and a DMin. Dr John Thatamanil is Associate Professor of Theology and World Religions at Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York. He is the author of Circling the Elephant: A Comparative Theology of Religious Diversity (Fordham University Press) and The Immanent Divine: God, Creation, and the Human Predicament; An East–West Conversation (Fortress).
