On this episode, we chat with Margo's Got Money Troubles star Michael Angarano! Michael plays the show's "villain" Mark, who's Margo's baby daddy. We talked in depth with Michael about the character, how he approaches him, and how he isn't actually a villain. We spoke about Mark's empathetic approach to the character and his growth through the first season of the show. We also tapped into Mark's relationship with his mother in the series. Angrano also spoke about how his work as a director has sharpened his instincts as an actor. He's learned to use both and says he still loves that the emotional disconnect of performance is something no amount of technical knowledge can fully replace. Michael brings a strong performance in a show that I can promise you is worth your time. "Margo's Got Money Troubles" is a bold, heartwarming, and comedic family drama following recent college dropout and aspiring writer, Margo (Fanning), the daughter of an ex-Hooters waitress (Pfeiffer) and ex-pro wrestler (Offerman), as she's forced to make her way with a new baby, a mounting pile of bills, and a dwindling amount of ways to pay them. The series also stars Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden, Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award-winner Greg Kinnear, Michael Angarano, Rico Nasty and Lindsey Normington. Michael Anthony Angarano is an American actor with a career spanning film and television since the mid-1990s. He's known for roles like Young William in Almost Famous and Will Stronghold in Sky High. He also played Nick Pearson in NBC's This Is Us, earning an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor. Angarano's other credits include Music of the Heart, Cover Me, I'm Dying Up Here, Gentlemen Broncos, and Oppenheimer (2023).

Sterling K Brown just exposed why streaming seasons are brutally short -- the This Is Us and Paradise star laid it out plain that streamers and premium cable don't chase ad dollars like old-school networks, so pumping out 22 episodes of the same show doesn't bring in fresh subscribers the way a shiny new 8-episode banger does. Networks live off ad inventory, more episodes equal more money, but streamers make bank luring you in with the next big thing -- yeah Brown basically said your binge is getting chopped because giving fans more of what they already love isn't profitable enough. A note to listeners: This episode contains explicit language. It also includes a brief conversation about Iran that was recorded prior to the current U.S. conflict with Iran. Today, Michael welcomes Sarah Shahi. Sarah ignited screens in Netflix's global hit Sex/Life, becoming the face of women questioning everything and unapologetically choosing themselves. Her portrayal of Billie resonated with more than 170 million viewers and sparked a global conversation about identity, desire, and reinvention. Now starring in Paradise, the gritty new series from This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman, Sarah continues to bring nuance, heat, and heart to every role. Off-screen, she's a single mom of three and a former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader who turned midlife chaos into creative awakening. In her debut book, Life Is Lifey: The A to Z's of Navigating Life's Messy Middle, Sarah explores marriage, motherhood, divorce, aging, career reinvention, and the courage it takes to choose yourself with wit, honesty, and fearless truth-telling. Conversation Highlights Include: • How stepping into a role that questioned everything opened the door to a deeper creative awakening and gave language to feelings that had been hard to name. • The way writing Life Is Lifey became a path through divorce, motherhood, and reinvention during a season of profound personal change. • How pain can begin to shift into purpose when you stop asking why it's happening, and start listening for what it's asking of you. • The meaning behind "Life is Lifey" as a mantra for navigating what you can't control while still choosing what makes you feel alive. • Why emotional sensitivity and intuition are not weaknesses, but powerful tools for living a more honest and aligned life. • How perfectionism can quietly bury your real desires, especially when you've been taught to be everything for everyone else. • What it feels like to live in the "messy middle," when the life that once fit no longer does and something truer is trying to emerge. • How to recognize the difference between intuition and fear, and what it feels like in the body when something is truly aligned. Next, Michael closes with a guided meditation that invites you to become still, listen inwardly, and reconnect with gratitude.

It was an unforgettable night of conversation and live music with Sterling K. Brown, Mandy Moore, and Chris Sullivan, as we celebrated one of the most powerful elements of This Is Us: the music. We talked about the songs that shaped some of the show's most emotional moments, and were joined by the show's composer, Siddhartha Khosla, as well as the creator of the show, Dan Fogelman, to hear how the score came to life. We also played a live round of Hot Takes with the audience and, of course, the night featured incredible live performances from guests like Taylor Goldsmith, Hannah Zeile, Blake Stadnik, and more, making it a truly special celebration of the music and community that made This Is Us…and That Was Us…so meaningful. Actor Milo Ventimiglia sits down with Bobby and shares what he learned working alongside Will Smith, then breaks down the TV breakthroughs that changed his life—from getting on the map with Gilmore Girls to launching into a whole new stratosphere with This Is Us. He also gets real about the “99 no' before a yes” grind, how he memorizes lines, and when you’re allowed to ad-lib (and when a set won’t let you change a single word). Plus, the unexpectedly hilarious side of Milo: Blue Angels stories, “chirping,” and why he has very strong opinions about passing out mid-flight and what it was like learning to sing for a new role when vocals weren’t even in his bag of tricks. This week, Tommy is joined by actor Milo Ventimiglia, whose career has spanned beloved television roles, heartfelt dramas, and unforgettable characters that continue to resonate with audiences. From being stopped on the street for Jack Pearson to reflecting on the lasting cultural impact of Gilmore Girls and its sharp, enduring writing, Milo looks back on the characters that shaped his career and the complicated legacy of playing a “toxic” love interest. He shares what he really thinks about Jess today, the advice he would give his younger self, and why he has never been afraid of rejection. This conversation also explores maintaining boundaries between work and home life and why separating emotion from career has been key to longevity. Milo also opens up about stepping into I Can Only Imagine 2, taking vocal lessons and guitar training for the role, and how personal loss, including losing his home in the fires just before welcoming his first child, deepened his connection to the story’s themes of faith, resilience, and gratitude. He reflects on what having faith means to him, why relying solely on work for happiness can be dangerous, and what his relationship is like with fear. Milo also speaks candidly about letting life experiences shape creativity rather than the other way around. Subscribe, rate, and leave a written review if you enjoy this conversation! revisiting the values we share as a church family - the beliefs that define who we are and shape how we live. We've titled this series of messages, This Is US. We've looked at our values of Biblical Truth, Grace, Spiritual Growth, Excellence, Evangelism, and Service. We wrap up the series this week with a deeper look at Worship. What did you do today? Perhaps you changed diapers and chased toddlers. Or maybe you balanced spreadsheets, or stocked grocery shelves, prepared food, ran errands, chatted with a neighbor, taught a class, went to class, repaired a car, pruned a hedge, or... you get the point. However you spent your day, would you consider any of it worship? What we think of as worship and what God receives as worship can be very different things. And music may... or may not... be involved! I invite you to join us this Sunday at 11 AM. You'll find us online by clicking the "Join Us Sunday" button on our website or connect with us via our YouTube channel. Or come worship with us in person! Enjoy coffee, cookies and conversation in our Lobby before the service. Connecting with one another before and after the service is one way we get to do life together. We do know that 11 AM on Sunday doesn't work for everyone. If that's you, the service will be available on-demand, so you can watch at a time that works better for your schedule. Today's guest is Iantha Richardson, a talented American actress whose journey from Washington, D.C. to our screens is rooted in artistry, resilience, and intention. Trained as a dancer with a BFA from Fordham University: The Ailey School, Iantha began her creative path through movement before transitioning into acting. She landed her first major role on This Is Us and went on to captivate audiences as Tessa Lorraine in American Soul. Her breakout performance as Faith Mitchell on ABC's hit series Will Trent highlights her ability to bring depth, strength, and humanity to a character navigating loyalty, identity, and integrity within a male-dominated profession. Beyond acting, Iantha is also a writer, director, and producer, driven by a desire to “control the narrative” and elevate meaningful stories from underrepresented perspectives. In this conversation, we explore her creative evolution, the courage it takes to pivot careers, and how intention plays a central role in both her art and life. Whether she's stepping into complex roles on screen or building stories behind the camera, Iantha brings thoughtfulness, ambition, and vision to everything she creates. ✨ In this episode, we discuss: Transitioning from dance to acting Navigating the entertainment industry with purpose Representation and storytelling from underrepresented voices What it means to control your own narrative Creating art with intention and integrity This episode is a reminder that your path doesn't have to be linear, and that owning your story is a powerful act. Since the beginning of the year, we've been on a journey together- a family road trip, so to speak. We're revisiting the values we share as a church family. The beliefs that define who we are and shape how we live. We've titled this series of messages, This Is US. So far, we've looked at the values of Biblical Truth, Grace, Spiritual Growth, Excellence and Evangelism. This week we're taking a look at our value of Service. We live in a self-serve world. So to hear someone... anyone... say, "How may I serve you?" sounds a little weird. But I have a friend who says it all the time. Every time someone seeks him out, for anything, the first words out of his mouth are, "How may I serve you?" And he means it. It's startling and refreshing all at the same time. This week we'll unpack what it means to truly serve one another. This week, actor Milo Ventimiglia — known for 'This Is Us,' 'Gilmore Girls' and 'Heroes' — tells us why he chose to star in a new Christian movie, playing real-life worship artist Tim Timmons, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer over 20 years ago and is still defying the odds today. In RELEVANT Buzz, the crew recaps the Super Bowl — including the incredible story of Seahawks coach Mike McDonald, who followed God's calling to leave the corporate world to take an unpaid internship in coaching. And now 12 years later, it's led to a Super Bowl championship. We also dig into a new study revealing that Gen Z is statistically dumber than their parents (and why that's significant). Plus, Jesse forces the crew to watch the Carman movie trailer, and at the end of the show, we have Ask the Cast! Welcome to the DMF! I'm Justin Younts, and in this episode I sit down with Alexandra Beller to dive deep into the role of movement in theater and performance.Alexandra breaks down how movement evolves organically through collaboration between actors, directors, and designers. She explains how the actor's body, the director's vision, and the text itself all interact to create a fully realized performance. Rather than treating movement as something added on, Alexandra emphasizes how it emerges naturally when those elements are truly in dialogue with one another. She shares insight into analyzing character dynamics and highlights the importance of timing in dialogue. Welcome to the DMF! I'm Justin Younts, and in this episode, Alexandra Beller takes us deep into the role of movement in acting and how it naturally evolves through collaboration between actors, directors, and designers.Alexandra explains that movement isn't something imposed on a performance—it emerges from the relationship between body language, text, and the energetic exchange between characters. She talks about recognizing when something feels “off” in a scene and how that friction can actually be used as a creative tool to strengthen performance rather than something to avoid.Drawing from examples in television, Alexandra discusses how shows like Gilmore Girls and This Is Us use timing, rhythm, and dialogue to generate emotional impact. She emphasizes the importance of authenticity and stakes, noting how a director's guidance around movement can deepen narrative clarity and emotional truth.Throughout the conversation, Alexandra highlights how physical choices can reveal character intention and elevate storytelling. She also introduces her upcoming book, The Anatomy of Art, which explores the artistic process and includes practical exercises designed to help creatives grow through embodied practice. If you're interested in how movement, energy, and intention intersect in performance, this episode offers valuable insight into how physicality can transform acting from the inside out.00:00:00 - Introduction00:00:18 - Collaboration in Art00:01:05 - Analyzing and Understanding Actors00:01:37 - Interpreting and Directing Dialogues00:02:51 - Stylization and Context in Film00:04:39 - Reading Characters and Predicting Outcomes00:06:12 - Understanding Body Language in Acting00:09:14 - Interpreting Non-Verbal Communication00:11:21 - Experiencing Film and Theater00:11:50 - Engagement and Authenticity in Performance00:12:54 - Influence of Global Theater on Work00:13:07 - Working with Directors00:13:55 - Constellatory Thinking in Directing00:15:45 - The Role of Embodiment in Directing00:17:30 - The Art of Choreography00:18:58 - Influence of Global Theater Styles00:21:21 - Praxis Space: An Artistic Community00:21:22 - The Anatomy of Art: A New Book00:21:22 - The Anatomy of Art: A Deeper Dive00:25:47 - The Role of Directing in Acting00:30:00 - Inside the Actor's Studio: Quick Answers00:31:29 - Reading Habits and Preferences00:32:04 - Listening Preferences00:32:04 - Watching Preferences00:33:16 - Discussion on Recent Movies00:33:22 - In-depth Analysis of Superman Reboot00:36:24 - Contact Information and Course Offerings00:37:24 - Closing RemarksCheck out her website: https://www.alexandrabellerdances.org/
