This week's episode is one I have been really looking forward to... I'm joined by the Burger Sage himself, George Motz. You may have caught one of his shows on the Travel Channel, maybe you came across his book, Burger America, at the book store or maybe you, like me, have drunkenly binged nearly every episode of his YouTube series, Burger Scholar Sessions. If none of this is ringing a bell, you've got a lot to look forward to and I hope this episode is a great starting point for a stronger appreciation of the American burger. We'll be covering some of my favorite cities to play and George will let you in on some the best burger experiences in those cities. I think this is an episode that deserves a beer while you listen. Enjoy my conversation with George! You can find George on Instagram at @motzburger You can find us on Instagram at @food.ontour If you have any questions, comments or, most importantly, food recommendations, you can send those to foodontourguys@gmail.com
This week I’m going to be talking about Chicago with Nashville based artist, JD Simo. JD is originally from Chicago and has a great appreciation for all food in Chicago, especially the classics. I think Chicago may be one of the easiest cities to talk about when it comes to food, but like I said, JD loves the classics and there really is so much to love about these dishes and the restaurants. Naturally, we’ll be getting into sausages, hot dogs, deep dish & Italian beef. If you want to keep up with JD you can find him on Instagram at @jdsimo If you want to find us, we’re on Instagram at @food.ontour If you have any questions, comments or, most importantly, food recommendations, you can send those to foodontourguys@gmail.com Head to foodontourpod.com for a full list of restaurants mentioned in this episode and all others
This week, I'm talking about some of the amazing food in Detroit with The Blue Stones. The Blue Stones are a 2 piece rock band from Windsor, Ontario... Seemed like a perfect fit to be talking Detroit with these guys, considering they live just over the border from Detroit. We'll be getting into Coney Dogs, Detroit style pizza, and where you can find 50 cent PBR's along with some good jazz. Not a combo I'd expect to find anywhere other than to Detroit, honestly. We're also talking about, what I imagine will be a bit of a divisive topic, and that's Windsor style pizza. I was unaware how big of a deal Windsor pizza really is, but these guys are going to give us all the spots we need to know for a proper Windsor pizza experience. This episode is dedicated to one of my favorite people in Detroit... Ronnie Benniefield AKA Paps Smurf. "Rain, sleet or snow... Papa Smurf will show!" You can find The Blue Stones on Instagram at @thebluestones You can find us on Instagram at @food.ontour If you have any questions, comments or, most importantly, food recommendations, you can send those to foodontourguys@gmail.com Full list of restaurants mentioned on this episode is at foodontourpod.com
This week I’m joined by Max Collins and L1zy Ryan. Max is in Eve 6, Fitness and also has a new project called Chevy Mustang and L1zy plays for Big Data. This conversation is all about TREATS. At first, I thought we’d just be talking about donuts and cupcakes… Ya know, sweet treats. But this conversation made me reconsider my definition of “treats” in the context of touring. Sometimes it really is just a dozen donuts, but most of the time it’s something to comfort you, relieve some stress or just escape for a bit. For me, those things show up in the form of big group dinners, a mid-tour massage, or finding some reeeeeally good pie somewhere along the way. For Max and L1zy, it’s everything from milkshakes and BBQ to cigars and gambling. You can find Max and L1zy on Instagram at @maxcollinsmusic & @_l1zy_ You can find us on Instagram at @food.ontour If you have any questions, comments or, most importantly, food recommendations, you can send those to foodontourguys@gmail.com Full list of restaurants mentioned on this episode is at foodontourpod.com
This week I'm joined by Steve Choi of RX Bandits. I have been a big fan of RX Bandits for a long time and I am very appreciative of Steve taking the time to join me in obsessing over food. In this episode, we'll be focusing on the French Fry. It's everywhere, it's delicious, it's comforting and, in my opinion, it's the ultimate vehicle for condiments. The French Fry may not be Steve's favorite food, but it's a part of his story and many touring musician's stories throughout their careers... From touring with no money in a 15 passenger van to day off Michelin Star restaurants in Paris, the French Fry is there. You can find Steve on Instagram at @rxchoi You can find us on Instagram at @food.ontour If you have any questions, comments or, most importantly, food recommendations, you can send those to foodontourguys@gmail.com Full list of restaurants mentioned on this episode is at foodontourpod.com
This week, I'm joined by Alex and Noah of Diet Cig. They're a 2 piece rock band, originally from upstate New York, now living in Richmond, VA. This conversation is all about convenience. We're talking about truck stops, fast food, and some favorite foods for those post-show/way too tired for anything kind of nights in hotels. We've all got a favorite truck stop, we all know the last resort meal when there's nothing else in sight, and I think most of us find a little comfort in those things. You can find Diet Cig on Instagram at @dietcig You can find us on Instagram at @food.ontour If you have any questions, comments or, most importantly, food recommendations, you can send those to foodontourguys@gmail.com Full list of restaurants mentioned on this episode is at foodontourpod.com
This week, my guest is Lynn Gunn from the band PVRIS. PVRIS is originally from the east coast, now based in LA, and they’ve been touring/putting out music for almost a decade. They just released a new record called “Use Me” a couple weeks ago and it rules. Go check it! Lynn and I will be covering all sorts of topics… Everything from pre-show hotel lobby hangs to post-show diner stops, cocktails... And Julia Roberts. We’ll also be discussing her dietary restrictions as a result of Crohn’s Disease. Thanks as always for listening and enjoy my conversation with Lynn! You can find Lynn on Instagram at @lynngvnn You can find us on Instagram at @food.ontour If you have any questions, comments or, most importantly, food recommendations, you can send those to foodontourguys@gmail.com Full list of restaurants mentioned on this episode is at foodontourpod.com
This week, I’m joined by some of my favorite people and musicians, Natalie Schepman and Meegan & Allie Closner. They have an incredible band called Joseph, who I have been lucky enough to play for and tour with for a bit. They are a Portland-based band, so it only felt right to talk about eating and drinking in Portland with them. We’ll be getting into some of their favorite bars and restaurants in town, restaurants that cater to Meegan and Allie’s dietary restrictions, as they are gluten-free, and some of the places that they’ve come to love during the pandemic. Thank you as always for listening and enjoy my conversation with Joseph! You can find Joseph on Instagram at @thebandjoseph You can find us on Instagram at @food.ontour If you have any questions, comments or, most importantly, food recommendations, you can send those to foodontourguys@gmail.com Full list of restaurants mentioned on this episode is at foodontourpod.com
This week, my guest is Nashville based drummer and drum tech, Mike Poorman. I'm very excited to have Mike on the show, as I have been a fan of his band, Hot Rod Circuit, for a very long time. Currently, Mike mostly tours as drum tech for Billie Eilish, Andrew McMahon, Thrice, and Zac Clark. He's also a food and tiki fanatic, so we'll be getting into some of Mike's favorite restaurants to visit on tour as well as his favorite tiki bars. He was an absolute pleasure to talk with and I think we could have gone on about tiki bars for at least another hour. He knows his shit! Thanks for listening and enjoy my conversation with Mike! You can find Mike on Instagram at @mikepoorman You can find us on Instagram at @food.ontour If you have any questions, comments or, most importantly, food recommendations, you can send those to foodontourguys@gmail.com Full list of restaurants mentioned on this episode is at foodontourpod.com
This week, we're going deep on pizza with Alan Wilkis & Gunnar Olsen from Big Data. Obviously, there are certain cities that have much better pizza than most, but this podcast is about finding the best food you can while you're on tour. That means sometimes you have to satisfy a pizza craving while you're in Columbus, OH or maybe you just want to order Domino's to your hotel room. Regardless of the scenario, I believe there's really good pizza in most cities, and these guys seem to be on the same page. Enjoy the conversation with Big Data! You can find Big Data on Instagram at @bigdatabigdata. You can find Gunnar on Instagram at @gunbuns You can find us on Instagram at @food.ontour If you have any questions, comments or, most importantly, food recommendations, you can send those to foodontourguys@gmail.com Full list of restaurants mentioned on this episode is at foodontourpod.com
This week, my guests are Sam Stewart and Sterling Laws from Lo Moon and we're talking about eating and drinking in their hometowns of London and Seattle. In this episode, we’ll get into burgers and coffee in Seattle, English breakfast and Indian food in London, and their mutual admiration of snacks in the UK. You can find Lo Moon on Instagram at @lomoon You can find us on Instagram at @food.ontour If you have any questions, comments or, most importantly, food recommendations, you can send those to foodontourguys@gmail.com Full list of restaurants mentioned on this episode is at foodontourpod.com
This week I'm talking with Mating Ritual. They're a Los Angeles based band, super talented, extremely funny and they love finding good food on the road. We'll be talking about some of their favorite stops in Austin, TX. We got into pretty much everything I think of when I think of Austin... BBQ, breakfast tacos, Tex Mex and cheap beer. Oh, and, unfortunately, SXSW. Thanks, as always, for listening and enjoy my conversation with Mating Ritual. You can find Mating Ritual on Instagram at @matingritual You can find us on Instagram at @food.ontour If you have any questions, comments or, most importantly, food recommendations, you can send those to foodontourguys@gmail.com Full list of restaurants mentioned on this episode is at foodontourpod.com
This week I'm talking with my friends Rob and Nick from The Dear Hunter. We're doing something a little different on this one... Instead of food we'll be talking about beer. I have terrible taste in beer. I love shitty beer, so Rob and Nick will definitely be carrying this conversation. We'll get into some of their favorite regional beers around the U.S., some of their favorite breweries, and looooots of White Claw talk. You can keep up with The Dear Hunter on Instagram at @thereadtdh You can find us at @food.ontour Contact us via email with questions, comments, or, most importantly, food suggestions at Foodontourguys@gmail.com
This week I'm talking with Eric Slick & Natalie Prass... Two amazing and talented musicians, who happen to be married. They've toured together, they've recorded together, and they reeeeally love food. We'll be talking about their favorite food in their hometowns (Philly & Virginia Beach/Richmond), as well as some of their favorite places to eat while they're on the road. If you want to keep up with Eric and Natalie you can find them on Instagram at @strangeamerica and @natalieprass You can find us at @food.ontour Full list of restaurants mentioned in this episode is at foodontourpod.com Contact us via email with questions, comments, or, most importantly, food suggestions at Foodontourguys@gmail.com
I'm joined this week by my lovely Kiwi friend, David Beadle. He's a great musician and a total fast food fanatic in every way. There's no way we can cover one of the greatest food cities in the world in one episode.... Or 5 episodes. This week, my guest is LA based drummer, Andrew Marshall. Andrew plays for Billie Eilish and has been touring with her for the last couple years. He's also got a special place in his heart for NYC. We'll be getting into some of his favorite restaurants in New York, "Dignity Dinners" and a glimpse at what catering is like on the Billie Eilish tour. Spoiler... There are A LOT of desserts. This week, I'm talking with one of my favorite drummers, who also happens to be a close friend of mine - Aaron Gilbert Steele. Aaron and I went into this conversation with no real direction, per his request. We needed up getting into touring with his recently discovered food allergies, Seattle Dogs, the importance of great bartenders and waaaay more. Secondly, these guys are hilarious and they shared some of their favorite places to stop for food while on the road in Europe and what they look forward to when they get back to Glasgow. We’ll get into Brendan’s favorite butt-themed restaurant in Paris, Sebastien’s candy addiction and their favorite seafood spot in Lisbon. This week's guest is my good friend, Max Benson. Max is a great musician with great taste in food. We've toured together in the past and I have always had such a great time hunting down the best food and bars we could find on the road. We're going to be talking about San Diego... We'll get into some of the incredible Mexican food San Diego has to offer, some gems in Little Italy, and one of our favorite topics... Tiki bars. Every restaurant/bar mentioned in this episode will be listed at foodontourpod.com Keep up with Max's food page on Instagram at @maxs_plate You can find us on Instagram at @food.ontour Send your food recommendations to foodontourguys@gmail.com
I don't think there is a more romanticized type of food in the world than Italian food and I've never experienced a more food-centric culture than that of Italy. It's beautiful, it's fun, it's delicious and I got to take a vicarious trip through the city and some of its incredible food with Stevie Aiello - A songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and music director (Thirty Seconds to Mars) from Los Angeles. We'll be talking about why Rome is an important place for Stevie, some of his favorite spots to eat and drink in the city and what it was like to play music there for the first time. This week my guest is Andy Warren from The Mowgli's and we're talking about one of his favorite cities, Kansas City, MO. KC is a really special place and obviously full of incredible BBQ, but we'll also be talking about the pseudo-trucker lifestyle of certain tours, and how welcoming the people in a place like Kansas City can be. It's always a place I look forward to getting back to on the road and I know Andy feels the same. You can keep up with Andy on Instagram at @iandywarren. I certainly don't have anything to say that hasn't already been screamed at protests, angrily typed on social media, or spoken about at home between close friends and loved ones. I do, however, have friends who have been dealing with this injustice for as long as they can remember. I felt it would mean a lot more coming from one of them than another white man saying what's already been said to a largely white audience. It's our duty to educate each other and there's a lot to learn. This is my friend, Harold Brown. This week, we have Oliver Ackermann from "the loudest band in New York", A Place To Bury Strangers and we're talking about some of his favorite spots in Austin. This conversation was hilarious... We got into food poisoning, Oliver's love for shitty coffee, Taco Bell and how he got his company, Death By Audio Effects, off the ground. You can find A Place to Bury Strangers on Instagram at @aptbs You can find us on Instagram at @food.ontour Feel free to contact us with questions, comments, or food recommendations at foodontourguys@gmail.com
This is a first for the podcast... Not only are we joined by a bad ass musician today, but also a bad ass chef. Mark started working in restaurants as a cook when he was 19 while building his career in music. Soon enough music took over, but touring is a pretty great excuse for him to visit some of his favorite restaurants and favorite chefs around the world. I had a great time talking with Mark and hearing about what we're all so used to doing from the perspective of a chef and musician. Hope you enjoy it! If you've got food recommendations you want to share, send those to foodontourguys@gmail.com Find us on Instagram at @food.ontour Full list of restaurants from this episode can be found at foodontourpod.com
I can't think of a better person, as far as touring musicians go, to discuss eat our way through Zurich with than Jacob Bergson. When he's touring Europe with Nerve they treat Zurich as a home base, so they're spending a lot more time there than most musicians who are on the road in Europe. We'll talk about some of his favorite dishes and restaurants, finding affordable food in such an expensive city and how invalid our American intuition can be when seeking out food overseas. Send your food recommendations or any fun food stories from tour to foodontourguys@gmail.com Find us on Instagram at @food.ontour Find Jacob on Instagram at @jacobbergson Full list of restaurants from this episode is at foodontourpod.com
This week I'm talking with Adam Met and Chris Berry of AJR. Adam is a founding member and Chris is their drummer. Instead of focusing on one city, Adam and Chris wanted to talk about some of their favorite stops for Asian food while they're on tour. We'll get into lots of noodles, some dumplings, hibachi horror stories, and some of their favorite spots when they're back home in NYC. If you have any food recommendations, Asian or not, that you'd like to share, send them over to foodontourguys@gmail.com and I'll share those at the end of upcoming episodes. Find us on instagram @food.ontour or visit our website, foodontourpod.com, for a full list of restaurants mentioned in each episode.
This week's guest is Bob Nanna from Braid and Hey Mercedes and we're talking about, arguably, one of the most beautiful cities in the world... Paris. Bob's vegetarian, so we'll get to know some of his favorite veggie forward and vegan spots in Paris. We also get an idea of what it was like touring through the mid-90's and early 2000's. A time when your food in each city was only as good as your local friend or venue staff recommendations. If you have any food recommendations or stories about playing Paris that you'd like to share, send them over to foodontourguys@gmail.com and I'll share those at the end of upcoming episodes. Find us on instagram @food.ontour or visit our website, foodontourpod.com, for a full list of restaurants mentioned in each episode.
I'm a big fan of Best Coast and a big fan of Chicago, especially the food, so it was pretty awesome to be able to combine the two. Bobb is a huge fan of the Chicago staples, the foods that shape the city. He'll walk us through some of his must-haves when he's in Chicago. What's a trip to Chicago without an Italian beef and a shot of Malort?
