Awrite hens and laddies, and welcome to a very special episode of Front End Chatter presented, ingested and recorded LIVE at the Highland Fling tour(s) in bonnie, sunny (no, really) Scotland! With not a lot to discuss in the world of motorcycling at the moment - other than the uncertain future of one of Europe's biggest bike manufacturers, plus a raft of new flagship models revealed by another of Europe's biggest bike manufacturers - our fabulous FECers have boldly stepped into our creative breach. Episode #212 is a Live FECsack extravaganza, with a wealth of wicked wonderings wittered by Highland Fling tourists spaken in the vague direction of Simon McHargreaves and Martin McFitz-Gibbons, including but not limited to… Does the rise of Chinese bikes mean certain doom for European brands? What effect will US tariffs have on motorcycling? Can KTM repair its reputation - and who would we pick to run it going forwards? What substance, material or concept should power motorcyclings's future? If you could only ride one road for the rest of your life, which would it be? And what would you ride it on? What's all the fuss about two-strokes? What would be the least-enjoyable bike to ride the Highland Fling on? Risk - what is it, why do we take it, and how much do we try to avoid it?  What would be the best bike for Mufga and Si to ride two-up to Gdańsk? Thanks to everyone for the fabulous questions! Speaking of thanks, our recognition, acknowledgement and gratitudes are, as always, directed to Bennetts, Britain's best bike insurers, and BikeSocial.co.uk, home to all the very best motorcycling news and reviews. Plus our enormous, heartfelt appreciation to Paul at MCi Tours - mcitours.com - for all his graft in taking charge of the grown-up logistics that enabled the FEC Highland Fling tours to happen. Thank you, Papa Smurf, sorry you couldn't make it, and see you in September! Right, that's it, we're outta here, dinner's calling. Regular service resumes soon(ish) so please keep your emails coming in to anything@frontendchatter.com Guid cheerio the nou!

Click here to try it out!Welcome back to Bad Dads Film Review! In this episode, we're diving into a trio of "the"-titled features, starting with our Top 5 Definite Articles in film and TV, followed by a look at Steven Spielberg's semi-autobiographical drama The Fabelmans, and rounding off with the delightful antics of The Smurfs.Top 5 Definite Articles in Film and TV:The Godfather (1972) - A cinematic masterpiece that redefined the crime genre and gave us one of the most iconic characters in film history, Don Vito Corleone. The Dark Knight (2008) - Christopher Nolan's gritty take on Gotham's hero brought depth, realism, and a legendary performance from Heath Ledger as the Joker. The Office (2005-2013) - A sitcom that revolutionized mockumentary-style comedy and introduced the world to Michael Scott's awkward brilliance. The Thing (1982) - John Carpenter's chilling horror-thriller remains a benchmark for practical effects and paranoia-driven storytelling. The Matrix (1999) - A sci-fi classic that questioned reality and revolutionized action choreography with its "bullet time" visuals.Main Feature: The Fabelmans (2022) Directed by Steven Spielberg, The Fabelmans is a semi-autobiographical film that reflects on the legendary filmmaker's own life, capturing the wonder, complexity, and challenges of growing up in a family where art and reality often intersect. Gabriel LaBelle stars as Sammy Fabelman, a young boy enchanted by the power of cinema, with Michelle Williams and Paul Dano portraying his loving but imperfect parents.Set in the 1950s and 60s, the film chronicles Sammy's discovery of filmmaking and his growing passion amidst family tensions and personal dilemmas. Spielberg crafts a deeply personal story that explores how art can be an escape, a confrontation, and a way of understanding the world. With a blend of nostalgia and emotional depth, The Fabelmans showcases the director's love for the medium while delving into the challenges of family life. It's a celebration of creativity, dreamers, and the power of storytelling. The Smurfs For the little ones (and the young at heart), The Smurfs bring a mix of charm, humour, and life lessons. Originally created by Belgian cartoonist Peyo, the tiny blue characters have enchanted audiences for generations. The 1980s animated series and subsequent films follow Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy, and their fellow Smurfs as they navigate the magical forest, often thwarting the evil plans of the bumbling wizard Gargamel and his cat Azrael. These pint-sized adventurers deliver plenty of laughs, but the stories often come with underlying messages about cooperation, kindness, and problem-solving. Whether through the classic cartoon or recent movies, The Smurfs remain a colorful and fun escape. This episode dives deep into the importance of the small things—whether it's a single word that gives a title its iconic flair, a passion for filmmaking that shapes a life, or little blue creatures teaching big lessons. Stay tuned for a blend of reflection, nostalgia, andWe love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. If it hasn't been completely destroyed yet you can usually find us on twitter @dads_film, on Facebook Bad Dads Film Review, on email at baddadsjsy@gmail.com or on our website baddadsfilm.com. While the 2024 summer movie lineup felt a little flat, a number of franchises — along with a few newcomers — should have film fans heading to theaters this summer. "Superman," "Jurassic Park" and even "The Karate Kid" are in the mix, along with the final (unlikely) installment in the "Mission: Impossible" franchise. Co-hosts Bruce Miller and Terry Lipshetz discuss what is on the way and which films have them most excited. Here is Miller's breakdown of the biggest movies: APRIL A MINECRAFT MOVIE (April 4) – At long last, a movie. Jack Black and Jason Momoa star as Steve and Garrett. THE AMATEUR (April 11) – A decoder (Rami Malek) decides to take matters into his own hands when the CIA won’t investigate a terrorist attack that claimed his wife. Rachel Brosnahan (the star of summer) co-stars. WARFARE (April 11) – Familiar faces turn up as soldiers embedded with an Iraqi family. Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland wrote and directed this “verite” look at war. DROP (April 11) – How’s this for a first date: You get messages during dinner that says you’ve got to do something about the man across the table. Like kill him. Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar star. SNEAKS (April 18) – A designer sneaker (no kidding, a shoe) has to find his sister after she has been stolen by a collector. Bringing a ragtag band of shoes together, he heads to New York to move in for the kill. Yup, it’s animated. SINNERS (April 18) – Just when you thought those Gothic vampires had gone under, Ryan Coogler pops up with drama about twin brothers who return to their home to deal with things that are fang-tastic. THE RITUAL (April 18) – Al Pacino gets involved in an exorcism. (And to think he could have done this back in the 1970s.) PRIDE & PREJUDICE (April 20) – Yup, this has been done before. But it has a blue-chip crowd of actors telling the Jane Austen story. Keira Knightley and Judi Dench star. THE ACCOUNTANT 2 (April 25) Ben Affleck returns as the crime solver. This time, he’s looking for the person who killed an acquaintance. He calls on his brother (Jon Bernthal) to help.  MAY THUNDERBOLTS* (May 2) – With the Avengers out of commission there’s a need for superheroes to do the government’s bidding. Unfortunately, they’re not exactly the cream of the crop, nor are they particularly united. Sebastian Stan, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss and Florence Pugh star. ROMEO & JULIET (May 9) – Rebel Wilson, Jason Isaacs, Dan Fogler and the Ruperts (Graves and Everett) try their hands at a different version of the classic. Like “Moulin Rouge,” it uses modern music.  CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD (May 9) – As much as Frendo might seem like a nice guy, he could be behind a series of teen disappearances. Set in the Midwest, it might be that “Children of the Corn” sequel you were seeking. HURRY UP TOMORROW (May 16) -- Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan in this story of a musician who just can’t sleep. LILO & STITCH (May 23) – Disney’s gameplan: If an animated film is successful, turn it into a live-action one. If a live-action one works, try animation. That’s what’s behind this live-action version of the E.T.-like bonding between a Hawaiian girl and an alien. Maia Kealoha plays Lilo. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – THE FINAL RECKONING (May 23) – For those of you who forgot, there was a second part to “Dead Reckoning,” the last “Mission: Impossible” film. Here, Tom Cruise gets to go to even more locations to hang from dangerous buildings/mountains/you name it in an effort to fight the Entity. In  case you don’t remember a thing, look at the first film and you’ll be just as confused. KARATE KID: LEGENDS (May 30) – Ralph Macchio gets back to business in this look at a troubled kid and a karate competition.  JUNE FROM THE WORLD OF JOHN WICK: BALLERINA (June 6) – How do you get John Wick back in a film? You back things up and tell a side story. In this case, it’s the training of Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas). Yup, Keanu makes an appearance. THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME (June 6) – Wes Anderson gets Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks and Jeffrey Wright back together for a story about a rich man, his daughter and her tutor. THE MATERIALISTS (June 13) – A New York matchmaker has a little fence mending of her own to do. Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans star. Celine Song writes, directs and stars. ELIO (June 13) – In this Pixar film, a kid gets beamed up to Communiverse, an interplanetary organization where he’s expected to deliver.leads the charge  HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON (June 13) – A live-action version of the popular film is being released just in time for Universal Studios’ newest theme park to open. There, you, too, can ride dragons and discover what matters most.  28 YEARS LATER (June 20) – The world is still in a mess (even after “28 Days Later” and “28 Weeks Later”). A virus has wiped out a lot of the population and, yup, even Oscar winners like Cillian Murphy have to go to work to stop it. F1 (June 25) – Brad Pitt gets his own need for speed in this drama about a Formula One has-been who has to get back on track. From the folks who did “Top Gun: Maverick,” it has all the hallmarks of a summer blockbuster. Load up the popcorn. MEGAN 2.0 (June 27) – Hello dolly. She’s back, this time to prove a new version can have just as many glitches as the original  JULY  JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH (July 2) -- Before that Jurassic Park unleashed a dinosaur world on the planet, there was a research island where some creatures still roam. If scientists can get a bit of the DNA, they might be able to solve some medical mysteries. Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey lead the charge (expect a trilogy). SUPERMAN (July 11) – David Corenswet gets to don the tights in this reboot from James Gunn. Nicholas Hoult plays Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan is Lois Lane. The real scene-stealer, though, is Mutt Krypto, a dog that gets to fly through the air with the greatest of ease. I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER (July 18) – The gang is back in this revisit to the land of the hook-wielding maniac. SMURFS (July 18) – They’re back, but now Papa Smurf is missing and the others have to find him. John Goodman plays the patriarch.  THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS (July 25) – Try, try again. That’s the case with the Fantastic Four. Now, with new actors in the roles, Marvel is hoping something will stick. Pedro Pascal leads the charge as Mr. Fantastic.  SEPTEMBER SAW XI (Sept. 26) – This is getting to be “Friday the 13th” ridiculous. We’re up to the 11th torture film, now with new methods of madness. About the show Streamed & Screened is a podcast about movies and TV hosted by Bruce Miller, a longtime entertainment reporter who is now the editor of the Sioux City Journal in Iowa and Terry Lipshetz, a senior producer for Lee Enterprises based in Madison, Wisconsin. Linktree: https://linktr.ee/AnalyticIn this segment of Notorious Mass Effect, Analytic Dreamz explores the freshly released trailer for the upcoming "Smurfs" movie, set to hit theaters on July 18, 2025. Rihanna takes center stage, not only voicing Smurfette but also contributing to the film's music by producing it and writing new songs, including a remake of "Heaven Is a Place on Earth." Directed by Chris Miller and produced by Paramount Animation, this film blends live-action with animation, echoing the style of previous adaptations while paying homage to Peyo's original comic designs through innovative animation techniques. The plot sees the Smurfs on a mission to rescue Papa Smurf in Paris, surrounded by a star-studded cast that includes Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, and Daniel Levy among others. This "Smurfs" film dives into a multiverse of pop culture, drawing inspiration from "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" and "Barbie," presenting Smurf Village as an idyllic setting disrupted by an existential journey. Analytic Dreamz dissects the marketing strategy, the soundtrack's anticipated impact, and how this movie aims to blend nostalgia with contemporary storytelling, potentially marking a significant moment for both animation and Rihanna's career in film.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/analytic-dreamz-notorious-mass-effect/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Unfortunately, we subscribe to the adage “You always finish what you start.” So, with the Odd Bods done, we've got the Even Stevens to complete. Time to Restump Podcast part two of the Buy Sell Hold 2024 report.Sometimes you can get caught up in and conflicted by your ideological values. Yes, we believe you should finish what you start, but having completed part one two weeks ago, devoid of reasoning, we've delayed until tomorrow what we could have done yesterday. However, if only our nonsense was worthy, we'd suggest all good things come to those who wait. But while time and tide wait for no one, it does little to stop the inevitable delivery of the mediocre. Thankfully, sewing confusion often serves as a pass generating act of distraction. So, enough of that later! Now that you're bamboozled and suffering a headache, hopefully you've forgotten we're late with the completion of the 2024 Buy Hold Sell report. So, let's get into it. With the list predominantly settled, we've got around twenty even Stevens, many of which write their own report. Is anyone in their right mind really not buying Andy Brayshaw, Hayden Young or Jordan Clark shares? Is Jye Amiss' stock wrongfully depressed after his handy but wayward kicking year? What is Jaegar O'Meara's current valuation? And, for that matter, are Sean Darcy's injuries impacting the financial decisions? Some tricky investment strategies need to be undertaken. There's plenty of other Docker data dropping. The fixtures are out for 2025 containing plenty of purple positives and it must be said we're not displeased the Roos are exiting Tasmania and entering WA.The Bell has rung time on Peter's purple career. In a literal sense Papa Smurf could fill his shoes, but metaphorically speaking and from a professional perspective, Aaron Sandilands's size 18 feet would still leave plenty of room. An astute, often necessarily ruthless, asset at the club will be missed and extremely difficult to replace. All that and way too much more gibberish that no one asked for. So, feel free to join us as we purple up the airwaves and prattle on about our favourite Freo football faction.Support the show

And I I remember having the toys in the 80s and watching the original cartoon in the 80s, and it was great. Optimus Prime and Bumblebee and all the all the main characters. But that was that was a.00:02:21JackA A definite staple when I.00:02:24JackAs a kid, uh, another one that I watched was GI Joe. My brother and I loved GI Joe. And GI Joe is now a famous movie series as well because they take all these 80s cartoons and they turn them into, you know, big blockbuster movies.00:02:42XochitlMovies, real action, live action things. Yeah. So now I understand that live action isn't new because I I was like, why are they turning all these Disney classics that I watched when I was a kid into live action? And now I see that life actions that I saw when I was.00:02:56XochitlGrowing up were things that were cartoons when you were a kid, so it's not a new thing.00:02:59JackYeah, right. You you're saying the copy of the copy of the copy? You know what I mean? Like you're.00:03:04XochitlRight, yeah.00:03:06JackYeah, because all the all the directors and the writers were were kids that were my age. Watching these these Saturday morning cartoons going, these would make great movies. I can't wait to grow up and make this into a movie, which is funny because people that are watching those movies have no idea that those used to be cartoons.00:03:27XochitlRight, it's weird.00:03:28JackYeah, it's, it's weird.00:03:30JackUh #3. I used to watch uh Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.00:03:35JackWhich is yeah.00:03:35XochitlOhh, let's let's.00:03:37XochitlDo a thing. When I was a kid.00:03:38JackYeah.00:03:40JackAnd you know, I was choosing. I was trying to decide between that and dungeons and Dragons because I love the Dungeons and Dragons.00:03:47XochitlNo dungeons and Dragons was a cartoon.00:03:49JackYeah. Yeah, it was a. It was like a game and it's it was a cartoon.00:03:54JackThere was also a show called.00:03:58JackThe the gummy bears? No. Is it? Yeah. The gummy bears. Yeah.00:04:02XochitlCare bears the care bears.00:04:04JackNo, no, no. The gummy bears they used what they called the gummy bears. Wait.00:04:09XochitlAre you sure it's not the care bears?00:04:12JackNo, it's the gummy bear. They were like, they would. They would drink this like gummy bear potion and then they would jump around. And I used to watch that show all.00:04:15발표자Through Google.00:04:21JackTime The Smurfs, OK.00:04:24XochitlOh yeah, adventures of the gummy bears. Oh, this looks cute. It's on Disney. Plus, I'm gonna watch it later.00:04:26JackYeah.00:04:30JackYeah, it's it was. It was the.00:04:32XochitlThe Smurfs. My aunt is like around your age. My youngest aunt, and she watched The Smurfs. And because she's short, people called her.00:04:43XochitlSmurfette.00:04:43JackYou rather Smurf Smurf at? Yeah. Yeah, I'm. I'm kind of look like Papa Smurf these days with my beard. I've. I've got a beanie and a white beard.00:04:44XochitlWith that, there's not much.00:04:49XochitlYou do and your beanie. You just need, like a white beanie. You just publisher for Halloween. That would be so cute. And your wife can be Smurf that. Yeah, that's good.00:04:56JackYeah, I should.00:04:59JackYeah.00:05:01JackSo you know I want I, that's my generation, right? The Smurfs, the gummy bears. I used to watch Uncle Scrooge. Like the adventures of Scrooge Mcduck. You know, like those kind of Disney ones. Yeah, all that stuff, you know.00:05:13XochitlOh yeah.00:05:16XochitlBy the time I was a kid, a lot of these have been made into life live actions like.00:05:20XochitlPerformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Smurfs had also been made into live action, so that happened. I didn't like them. I liked the cartoon ones when I was a kid, the most iconic cartoon of all time for my generation has to be sponge Bob Square pants.00:05:26JackYes.00:05:38JackYeah, yeah. And I used to watch that because my daughter, that's my daughter's, is 15 now. She watched Sponge Bob when she was young, and I watched it in Korean, which is really funny because I was learning. So in Korean, it's like nemu baggy, spongy Bob Nemu baggy, spongy Bob.00:05:39XochitlYes.00:05:44XochitlRight.00:05:48XochitlYes.00:05:51발표자Oh.00:05:58XochitlUh.00:05:59JackSponge Bob.00:06:02JackNate Chingu, my friend. Do you know so something like that? I don't know. I can't remember exactly. Yeah.00:06:06XochitlAnd then that's funny. Yeah. So Sponge Bob is the definitely one of the number one most iconic cartoons we saw as a kid. #2. I really like scooby-doo. They've done, like different ones for every generation. But when I was a kid, they had one. And I loved scooby-doo.00:06:16발표자Yeah.00:06:24XochitlThat was the one I saw the most, scooby-doo.00:06:26JackThat's funny because I watched the old one, the original one I.00:06:30JackWas a huge.00:06:30JackScooby-doo fan as well. I watched. Yeah.00:06:33XochitlYeah, I love scooby-doo, I.00:06:35XochitlThink I might have.00:06:35XochitlSeen that ohh Gee one because my mom is a Gen. Exer and I believe she would. She popped in the the OG ones actually because we had them on like VH. So that must have been her old VHS or something.00:06:44JackYeah.00:06:51JackThe real the the real old ones are the best ones because they're they've got Casey Kasem as as shaggy with his voice.00:06:59XochitlYeah.00:06:59JackYou know.00:07:00XochitlYeah, yoinks. Yeah. So that SpongeBob, scooby-doo, and I was thinking of another one that when we were talking about them.00:07:04JackYeah, that kind of thing.00:07:14XochitlAnd I was like, oh, that'd be a great one to bring up. And I was, like, blanking on it now because I wasn't allowed to watch a lot of cartoons.00:07:22JackMm-hmm.00:07:23XochitlSo but I remember.00:07:24JackWas it like uh, not Ren and Stimpy or Phineas? Phineas and Ferb were the ones that my daughter used to watch a lot.00:07:28XochitlNo, I will not understand mine.00:07:32XochitlI didn't like minions for that much. I did it did. I was a kid when it came out and I I was around the age, but I didn't really like it too much.00:07:41JackOK.00:07:43XochitlAh yeah, it looks like another 2000s cartoon. Come on, sponge Bob. scooby-doo. I watched some international ones like Shaman King, which was like an anime, and that would come on Saturday mornings. And I also watched someone that like some like The Simpsons, which is.00:07:56XochitlClassic and still run.00:07:57JackOhh Simpsons is great. Yeah, but that's not a Saturday morning cartoon. Really. That's more of a.00:08:01XochitlNo, that's like a more of a adult. It's it, it's an, it's like a PG13. It's not a super inappropriate or anything. It's not like.00:08:08JackYeah, yeah. I mean, it's just, it's just the humor is definitely for adults. Like kids, kids might might find it cute, but they they're not gonna understand the judge. No.00:08:12XochitlYes. Yeah.00:08:15XochitlYeah, they don't understand the full the humor. They definitely don't. So also SpongeBob is the same way when you see it as an adult, you're like, wait stuff, I'm.00:08:24JackYeah, SpongeBob is is made for the kids, won't get the the the subtle jokes, but it, you know, keep the parents interested while they're taking their kids to go watch the, you know, movie, SpongeBob or.00:08:29XochitlYeah.00:08:36JackWatching it on TV, parents can enjoy it too, because it's just bizarre and strange.00:08:42XochitlYeah, I yeah, I think that was one of the staples of, I mean, I think that was mainly the things I watched. Dooby Doo, SpongeBob. I obviously saw the Disney Classics as a kid, like the movies.00:08:54JackMHM.00:08:55XochitlThat they kind of turned to live action and there were some weird cartoons that I remember. There was one that I don't remember anymore. That was like she was a robot teenager robot.00:09:10XochitlAnd those she had these like, pigtails. And she was like blue and white. And I just, I don't even remember what it's called anymore. But I did watch quite a bit of that when I was a kid, and it was kind of.00:09:21JackI I used to watch the my parents generations cartoons. The Flintstones, the Jetsons.00:09:28XochitlOhh I did see the Flintstones as well. I saw the Flintstones and the Jetsons. I've I've seen both of those. Those are such classic American cartoons that I feel like every generation I've seen them because.00:09:38JackAnd what is the Jetsons? Is like 2015 or something? It's like, not even?00:09:43JackIt's not, it's.00:09:43XochitlRight, yes. It's like we've already surpassed it here. Yeah. Yeah, it's crazy. So we for surpassed the year that it aired on. Yeah. But yeah, I think those are the big ones. Phineas and Ferb was one that I did watch sometimes.00:09:45JackLike 2002 or something.00:10:00XochitlAnd I think that's pretty much it. I was in a big cartoon watch when my mom claimed it was like ohh, I watched some Arthur.00:10:07XochitlYeah, that was more like my sister's age though, like.00:10:10JackOhh yeah, what about Rugrats? Did you watch that one?00:10:12XochitlOh my God, I love.00:10:13XochitlRugrats and all grown up, they like Rugrats, was like at its tail end when I was a little kid. And so when I was kind of a little bit older, they had all grown up, which was the Rugrats. When they were all older.00:10:27JackOhh OK. I never got into it. My daughter watched a little bit of it, but not much so.00:10:28XochitlYeah. And so.00:10:29XochitlWatch that.00:10:33XochitlYeah, I really like. Yeah, I yeah, I I like the the Nickelodeon shows quite a bit.00:10:37JackWhat about Doug? Did you ever watch Doug?00:10:41XochitlNo, I think that was a little, yeah, I don't remember. I didn't. I didn't watch Doug. I watched one called like teachers PET where the dog is smarter than the kid.00:10:53XochitlEverything else.00:10:53JackWhat about Rick and Morty? Rick and Morty? Are you a fan?00:10:55XochitlOh yeah, that's more like adult one, though, right? And Leanne Lee Pepper and pepper. And that's what it was called. She was a redhead with, like, glasses. Pepper ran or Pepper ran or something. And I saw that one.00:10:59JackYeah.00:11:11XochitlYeah, I don't know. Those are kind of all ones that were kind of more in my generation. They're making live actions out of a lot of them.00:11:17XochitlNow.00:11:17XochitlLike the Disney Classics, and they turn a lot of the Disney Classic movies into series. When I was a kid.00:11:18JackYeah.00:11:22XochitlSo they have.00:11:23XochitlLike a little and stitch series or like a.00:11:28XochitlAladdin series and they had different things like that that you could watch when I.00:11:31XochitlWas a kid.00:11:32JackYeah, there's still milk in that and making money after that, franchises.00:11:36XochitlI know because now they're making the live actions and Danas and then it's just bad and then a a really famous one. When I was a kid was Shrek.00:11:46JackOhh sure. Yeah. Big time. Yeah, love it. First one is great. Yeah.00:11:47XochitlYeah, I love Shrek. I still watch.00:11:50XochitlFor this like.00:11:51XochitlYeah, my 24th birthday. I was like, I want to watch Chuck one and my dad complained and I said.00:12:01XochitlAnd I just popped on Shrek for my 24th birthday and that's what we watched. So.00:12:07JackThat's great.00:12:08XochitlAnd I would say my generation was like getting international already. So I watched a lot of cartoons like thought I am on Studio Ghibli, like the movies, like Spirited Away Howls with all of those.00:12:18JackYeah, yeah, yeah. Give yeah, sure.00:12:20XochitlThings.00:12:23XochitlYeah, I would say my generation saw like content from all around the globe a lot already.00:12:31JackYeah, because of the Internet, yeah.00:12:33XochitlThat's what I was thinking of. Adventure Time. Adventure Time was super popular.00:12:37JackOhh yeah, I my daughter loved that show. It was so weird. It's the weirdest show ever.00:12:42XochitlIt is weird. I just started watching it and it's so weird. It's like I remember thinking it was when I was a kid. That's so weird and kids like normally don't really pick up the same way because the world is weird to them. And I still thought it was weird when I was a kid.00:12:51JackYeah.00:12:59XochitlYes, I didn't see.00:12:59JackYeah. No, it's it's a. It's a bizarre, bizarre show. It's almost. I almost wouldn't let my daughter watch it because it was so strange.00:13:00XochitlIt.00:13:00XochitlBut I.00:13:08XochitlSome stuff.00:13:08JackBut then I was like, well, it's not.00:13:11XochitlThat's it. So go ahead.00:13:12JackLike this? It's not dirty or anything, it's just weird.00:13:16XochitlYeah, it's some of it is kind of like mildly inappropriate, like the ice king, like.00:13:16JackJust now.00:13:22XochitlLocks the princesses up or whatever and present. I mean, that's the kind of stuff that you've seen all throughout history of. Like what kids content is, but it is just kind of a weird. It's a weird show, but yeah, it is weird. Yeah.00:13:31JackYes.00:13:38XochitlThat was a big one. All right, well, if you guys have specific cartoons that you saw as kids, I would really like to hear about that. If you saw any of the cartoons.00:13:47XochitlWe're talking about.00:13:49XochitlI'm interested in hearing about that too. The success of Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988) demonstrated that splashy cartoon crossovers would grab a great deal of attention. One of the more odd and timely results of this fact was Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, an anti-drug PSA where Bugs Bunny, Papa Smurf, Garfield, Alf, Winnie the Pooh, and Michelangelo team up to stop an adolescent boy from getting addicted to crack. Spurred through production by Roy Disney and financed by McDonald's, Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue was broadcast on every major TV network in numerous countries and, as such, was very widely seen (75% of American televisions tuned in to the special). It got a VHS release in 1990, but the complex licensing issues have kept it from reissue on physical media or streaming in the decades since. It is, however, pretty easy to find on unofficial channels; Ryan, Sylvan, and Cheryl had no trouble locating a watchable upload. As one can readily surmise, Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue is loaded to the brim with subtext. Discussion topics for this one include the shortcomings of the Reagan-era "Just Say No" initiative, how the War on Drugs accomplishes the opposite of its stated agenda, the ways that the prison industrial complex perpetuates unjust persecution of drug use, and why provably effective means of harm reduction are still struggling to attain mainstream acceptance in the United States. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ryan-valentine3/support
