The story so far: Three friends are trapped in an underground movie rental store managed by a magical anthropomorphic mole man, have adventures, and watch movies to pass the time and figure ways out of predicaments. More molescrolls continue to pop up!This week, we come across a brand new molescroll that's been hiding from us which could allow us to time travel! But, being a bunch of buffoons with little knowledge of how time travel works, we decide to check out Timecrimes (2007), the twisty time travel film from Nacho Vigalondo! As the concepts of non-linear time and predestination break our brains, we discuss our love of pac-man piggy banks and smashing glass, Greg's empathy for Hector's ordeal, our possible reactions to our future selves reaching back to us, and theories about the universe, simulation theory, and everything! So hop in your pool of white viscous fluid and join in on the fun of this timey-wimey trip!Leave us a 30 second voicemail and if we like it we'll play it on the show: (949) 4-STABBY (949-478-2229)Next movie announced every Wednesday. She must have been scared to death. She wasn't a public speaker, but that day she agreed to speak to 70,000 people in a football stadium in the Northwest. It was the last day of Billy Graham's Crusade in her city. And he had asked her to read a letter she'd received from her son. It was the end of the first Gulf War, and the troops were coming home; except for a relatively few American soldiers who weren't coming home and her son was one of them. He had died in a helicopter crash on the last day of the war. He had written a letter to his mother and given it to a good friend with instructions to mail it only if he was killed. Now she shared that letter with the masses in that stadium. His letter said, "Mom, if you're reading this letter, it means I didn't make it. But that's OK, Mom. Because now, for the first time, I'm smarter than you are! Because Mom, I've seen heaven. I've seen Jesus!" I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Thirty Seconds After You're Gone." What a way to live! What a way to die - knowing that all death is going to do is send you to heaven...to see the One whose death and resurrection opened the door for you to be there. God wants for you to be able to say and to know beyond any shadow of a doubt that 30 seconds after you're gone, you're going to be saying, "I've seen heaven! I've seen Jesus!" Is it possible to really know that you're going to heaven when you die? Not if you have to earn heaven by living a good life. You'll never know if you're good enough. Keanu Reeves starred in a movie that had some supernatural subject matter. In an interview he was asked, "What are your notions of heaven and hell, and eternal damnation vs. eternal bliss?" He said, "Well, I hope I get the bliss. And I know I'm going to have to work for it." A lot of folks think that way. God doesn't. He actually says in His book, and these are God's words. "He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy" (Titus 3:5). You can't possibly do enough good to satisfy a perfect God or to pay the death penalty for the sinning you've done. It took Jesus to do that. God tells us that when those who belong to Him are "away from the body," they are "at home with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8). How can you be sure that will be you? As Jesus was dying on the cross, there was a criminal on one side of Him who had started out mocking Him like everybody else. Then, in our word for today from the Word of God in Luke 23:42-43, he suddenly says, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." What changed him? Moments before, He had heard Jesus say these words from the cross: "Father, forgive them." And that criminal must have thought, "If Jesus would forgive the people who nailed Him there, then He'd forgive me for my sin." Here was Jesus' amazing answer, "Today you will be with me in paradise." That's what He wants to say to you when you've breathed your last breath, "Today you'll be with Me in heaven - and forever." But that can only happen if you put all your trust in the One who said from the cross where He died for you, "Father, forgive them." He was forgiving you that day. But it's like a gift He's offering you. You have to take what He paid for at such a high price. When should you do that? The Bible says, "Now is the time of God's favor. Now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:3). Why would you wait one more day to turn from your sin, to put your trust in Jesus to forgive your sin, and have every sin erased from God's book forever? Why would you wait one more day to trade hell for heaven when you don't know how many more days you'll have? Let this be your Jesus day. Tell Him now, "Jesus, I believe when You died on that cross it was for sinning I have done. And, Jesus, I am yours from this day on." Our website is there to just help you make sure that you belong to Him. I wish you'd go there as soon as you can today. I invite you to ANewStory.com. There is no greater peace than going to sleep at night knowing beyond any shadow of a doubt what will happen when you have taken your last breath. You're going to be seeing heaven and you'll be seeing Jesus.
What The Riff?!? makes another scary trip down the Halloween rabbit hole with these theme songs, movie and TV music, and rock songs with a bent towards the macabre. We hope you enjoy this third edition of "Halloween" from What the Riff?!? Highway to Hell by AC/DC The opening track to the 1979 album of the same name features Bon Scott on his last album as lead singer of the group before his untimely death. The name of the song was inspired by the group's gruesome touring schedule.Shout at the Devil by Motley Crue The Crue's 1983 breakthrough album of the same name would establish them as one of the most successful metal bands of the 80's. The song was controversial, with many believing that it encouraged devil worship, though the lyrics themselves do not explicitly do so.Disarm by The Smashing Pumpkins Off their breakout album "Siamese Dream," this song references "the killer in me is the killer in you" is inspired by Billy Corgan's contemplation of his negligent parents and suicide. The lyrics "cut that little child" caused the song to be banned by the BBC.Demons by Imagine Dragons This song off Imagine Dragons' major label debut studio album became their second top 10 single. It is really not about demons in the Halloween sense, but more the tragedies of life like abuse, PTSD, and mental illness.Voodoo by Godsmack The third single from Godsmack's self-titled debut album was inspired by Wes Craven's film “The Serpent and the Rainbow.” This song became Dave Bautista's theme song as Leviathan when he was in the WWE. Mommy's Little Monster by Social Distortion The title track from Social Distortion's debut album tells a horror tale of a kid becoming a punk rocker. It is another song about dealing with personal demons rather than the supernatural. Witch Wolf by Styx Early in their career Styx put out this song to lead off their third album, “The Serpent is Rising.” James Young takes lead vocal duties on this song that tells about a person accursed by a creature called the witch wolf, and night rider.Dragula by Rob Zombie The lead single from Rob Zombie's debut album may be his biggest hit. The audio clip at the beginning of the song is taken from the 1960 horror film “The City of the Dead.” The name comes from the TV sitcom "The Munsters," where Grandpa Munster has a dragster called "Drag-u-la."The theme to the TV series "Twilight Zone" This menagerie of bizarre tales from the early days of TV still has staying power in our sci-fi culture. Sympathy for the Devil by the Rolling Stones Mick Jagger walks us through a discussion with Old Scratch himself in this well-known classic from the Stones' catalogue. The idea is a narrative from Satan's point of view as he reviews historical events. That Old Black Magic by Frank Sinatra Old Blue Eyes gave us this romantic song with a Halloween bent. It was a jazz classic originally written in 1942 with lyrics penned by Johnny Mercer. Love is "that old black magic" in this tune.Night of the Vampire by Roky Erickson From this cult classic album "The Evil One," this song is one of a plethora of horror-oriented tracks on the album. Erickson spent a significant amount of time in mental institutions. The Kill (Bury Me) by Thirty Seconds to Mars Jared Leto, front man for the group (and perhaps better known as an actor today), has said this song is about the relationship you have with yourself, and confronting the dark side of who you are.Take Me to Church by Hozier This haunting hit song compares falling in love with a kind of death, and compares the lover to a kind of religion. Thirty Seconds To Mars is playing Pine Knob on Tuesday as their Season World Tour makes a stop in Michigan. Jared Leto was nice enough to take a few minutes to speak with me about the band, his vast movie career, and much more. I had to ask him about scaling the Empire State Building in New York City to announce the tour. "That was quite the experience," I asked him if he thought it was a bad idea. "Definitely. The first night, it was about 4 or 5 a.m., 40 degrees, 40 mph winds, and freezing cold. My hands were so numb I could barely hold on. But, it was beautiful. I've always been fascinated by the Empire State Building. It was an amazing way to launch the world tour—better than just sending out a tweet." You could say that! We also talked about the dichotomy of playing in his band live, versus filming a movie. "Performing with Thirty Seconds to Mars is special because I get to do it with my brother. The immediate connection with the audience is unique. Acting is collaborative and you often wait to see the final product. Both are rewarding in their own ways, but live music holds a special place in my heart." I asked him about highlights in his music and acting career. "Winning an Academy Award was a huge highlight, especially being able to thank my family. In music, having a song like "The Kill" that still resonates after all these years is a big win. There are also tough moments, but they fuel the journey." Since we're in Detroit, I had to ask him about Chad Smith playing "The Kill" without ever hearing it. Jared said he brought it up to him when he saw him at a huge event. "Yes, I saw that! It was awesome. We did a duet on TikTok reacting to it. Chad and I laughed about it when we met at the Super Bowl. It's cool seeing our music reach new audiences." The band did a tribute to Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell at the 2017 MTV Awards show. He spoke to me about the two singers we lost. "Yeah, I did. I toured with both of them, actually. And, they were both really kind, really, really gifted, kind people. You know, Chester, was a friend. And, you know, it's interesting, those things can be so surprising sometimes. But, you know, I was always struck by Chester and his joy. He always seemed to be, you know, to have a smile quickly, on his face. And Chris was very, gentle, in my experiences with him, and thoughtful and intelligent, and both of them just highly intelligent, kind, good people. And you know what? A loss to the world as well." That's well said. Thirty Seconds To Mars will play Pine Knob on Tuesday, August 6th.

Heidi Weber is the Director of Operations for the Open Series Championships, which is connected with the All Star World Championship. She also directs the Celebrity Cheer and Dance Championships, and she is involved as a leader in the All-star cheer industry. Heidi believes in giving people a voice and she believes in giving us, the cheer parents, the customers, affordable options. And maybe even the best part about Heidi is that she no longer plays the Cupid Shuffle at her events. Heidi and I talk about taking the cheer experience beyond two minutes and 30 seconds, beyond just that time that they're competing on the mat. And I loved, loved, loved our conversation. I so appreciated Heidi's time and I hope that you find this episode helpful and that it excites you for the future of All Star cheerleading. Special Thanks to our Sponsor: Prodigy Cheer Apparel
