This week Ron announces his candidacy for the Mayor of the City of Venice. The City of Venice influences the surrounding communities and Ron wants his listeners to know that even if you don't live within city limits this election will affect you. Check out Ron's campaign website for more details on his positions, make donations and sign up to be a volunteer. ron4venicemayor.com
Ron and Wesley discuss what has been happening since her run for Sarasota Council seat. We talk about how the Sarasota County Commissioners are attacking the will of the people by attempting to Gerrymander the five county districts...BEFORE the 2020 census. Next, how the republican led state legislature is undermining the will of the people at the state level, while making it much more difficult for the people to even express their will.
If you think the only place that children are being held in cages is along our southern border, think again. We have a children's prison right here in the Sunshine State and it's the only for profit facility of it's kind in the country. That's right, a for profit children's prison, on Federal land, that costs the taxpayers three times as much per child/ per day as any of the not for profit detention centers throughout the country. We also discuss the Mueller report and the possibility of Impeachment proceedings, the Republican legislature in Florida and how they ignore the will of the people. Lot's to think about and take action on.
Ron and his guest host Mike Shlasko discuss how the Florida Legislature ignores and undermines the "Will of the People". This isn't new in Florida, in fact it's a pattern. The citizens of Florida spend years collecting enough signatures to put an Amendment on the ballot. The people overwhelmingly support the Amendment. Then, once passed, the Republican led legislature passes bills that block and undermine the will of the people. Or, worse, they simply ignore the Amendment completely. It's the "will of the people" that should determine how our state manages its resources and responsibilities to our citizens. That's not how it's been working.
If you wonder how and why the City of Venice is run, this show might just answer a few questions. It might also open up some new ones. Mitzi tries to give us some perspective on the City Council and how it may not be looking out for the best interests of the people where the big name builders are concerned. There is a great opportunity right now to make a difference and "Be Democracy in Action". There are two city council positions and the Mayor's position up for election in November. If you want to make a difference, this might be a great opportunity. You must live within the city limits to run. Contact us through our website www.indivisiblevenice.com if you think you might want to take a shot at one of these positions.
This is Ron's first solo show and it covers a lot of ground. We start with Venice City Council ignoring their own development plans by allowing a local builder to get a pass on the zoning. Next a little review of what our representatives are doing in Tallahassee, mainly defying the will of the people and passing some extremist bills. We end with "six gun" Steube and his horrible extremist positions.
Ron and Tony discuss the needs of Veterans and the new Sarasota County Democratic Party Caucus on Veterans. Tony has served in the military, he is still serving reserve duty, and he understands the needs of our veteran population. He is working to help create a caucus that can help our Vets get the information and guidance and services they need to navigate a complex and disjointed system. Find out how you can make a difference to our Veteran population...Be Democracy In Action!
