The broadcast touched on local summer traffic and quirky home gadgets like "the Clapper." Boomer noted an old fish smell at WFAN as C-Lo prepared an update, which included audio of Sal's show baseball card with BT, and a college radio clip featuring John Minko and Andy "the Walrus." Shedeur Sanders addressed his recent speeding tickets. The "Moment of the Day" involved explaining "slump busters" to Boomer. The segment concluded with a discussion of WFAN shows and podcasts appearing at FanaticsFest this weekend, and the topic of fake sneezing in front of dogs.

S2 E42 Hotline Pot-pourri In this “Hotline Pot-pourri” edition, Bob Cutler tells of the technical mishap that almost derailed his Mangy Moose episode, fields a listener question about expanding Apres culture beyond skiing, and candidly explains why he doesn't serve CBD or THC cocktails—despite their popularity and legality in Maine—citing safety and simplicity as guiding values at Novio's and Birdies. Key Topics Adventures In Podcasting Bob recounts how a major technical mistake in Jackson Hole left only one microphone recording. With no usable track of his own voice, he and his producer reconstructed the episode from memory and transcription. It became a showcase of podcast resilience and production creativity. Apres Culture as a Year-Round Mindset Listeners resonated with the idea that Apres isn't just for skiing. Bob builds on that, pointing to the celebratory nature of golf outings and community events as new frontiers for Apres vibes. With partnerships like WildMane and branding elements like “Chip,” this mindset is expanding into warmer months. Ethical Concerns Around Cannabis in Hospitality Despite the legal standing of CBD and THC drinks in Maine, Bob takes a cautious approach. As a bar and beverage licensee, he feels uncomfortable serving these products due to unknown interactions with alcohol and public perception. His decision to abstain reflects his emphasis on safety and simplicity for staff and guests alike. Episode Index [01:30] The Mangy Moose episode was nearly lost due to a recording mishap—only Kat's mic worked. Bob's producer recreated the episode using transcripts and overdubs. [04:10] Bob praises the Apres culture and hints at future events or collaborations celebrating “Apres Everywhere,” including summer golf vibes with Chip the pineapple. [06:00] A listener asks about cannabis cocktails—Bob admits he's never used THC and shares concerns about combining it with alcohol, even though it's legal. [07:15] Birdies legally could sell CBD cocktails, but Bob and the team opted out, worried about reactions and responsibility in public settings. [09:00] Bob supports adult choice when it comes to infused drinks but doesn't want his staff to manage unpredictable situations involving substances they can't fully control.
Associate Editor Nick Fondacaro is joined by News Analyst Alex Christy to discuss the liberal media's covetous reaction to the election of Pope Leo XIV. Leftist outlets rushed to claim Leo as one of their own, while at the same time trying to downplay and or obfuscate his conservative elements. Yet others were surprised that the leader of the Catholic Church held Catholic beliefs about abortion and marriage.
That Solo Life, Episode 298: PR Potpourri: A Look Back at Q1 2025 This podcast episode explores the challenges that PR professionals face in the current media and communication landscape. The discussion covers several key topics: The struggles with PR tools and technologies, which often fail to keep up with the rapidly changing industry. This leaves PR practitioners having to "hack together" solutions to get the job done. The broader cultural issues of overwork and lack of work-life balance in the PR and communications field, which contribute to fatigue and burnout. The challenges of cutting through the "sensationalism" and "brain candy" that dominates much of today's media, and finding ways to effectively share meaningful, ethical, and responsible messaging. The hosts emphasize the importance of PR professionals upholding their integrity and values, while also adapting to connect with audiences in creative and engaging ways. Overall, the conversation highlights the unique blend of skills and resilience required to succeed as a communicator in the current environment. Episode Summary: Join co-hosts Karen Swim, APR, and Michelle Kane as they take you on a lively and insightful ride through the current state of public relations, pop culture, and the challenges of living the #SoloPR life in 2025. This isn't just one topic; it's a mix of everything that's shaping the PR landscape today. From the highs and woes of PR tools to the emotional (and professional) toll of our 24/7 work culture, Karen and Michelle share their honest thoughts with moments of humor, empathy, and real-world advice. What You'll Learn in This Episode: An honest review of today's PR tools, touching on media monitoring, analytics, and pitching databases. How the evolving media landscape and shrinking newsrooms are forcing PR pros to become more creative in their strategies. The societal fatigue impacting professionals across industries and how it weighs on productivity and expectations. Why sensationalism and aesthetics dominate public attention and what PR pros can do to create impactful, ethical, and relatable messaging. The power of storytelling in PR, regardless of how complex or mundane the topic may seem. Key Quotes from the Episode:
Liebe geht raus! Und jetzt: Reinlegen. Mit SchwitzQuAsten infizieren. Und Spaß haben. Producer Josh goes through the embarrassing way the Heat were eliminated last night, how Playoff Jimmy won before the Warriors did, and the final game (maybe) for Giannis in Milwaukee tonight.
MLS After Dark was in full form late Saturday night and Sporting Kansas City was a prime protagonist as they won a wild 5-3 game in San Jose bouncing back from a frustrating defeat the prior weekend at home vs. Portland. Daniel Salloi earned MLS Player of the Matchday honors bagging 2 goals and 2 assists and narrowly missing his first career professional hat trick. It was yet another game under the direction of interim coach Kerry Zavagnin where we saw Sporting KC be more dynamic and effective in their attack, getting their new DP#10 Manu Garcia in advantageous spaces and giving him the opportunity to let his vision and touch create multiple chances for Sporting KC to score. It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, as San Jose piled on tons of pressure in return most of the game, and there were still some familiar issues defensively both on set pieces as well as closing down space in their own defensive third. That said, everyone that listens to this podcast or follows this team closely at all is aware of the defensive deficiencies, and that for Sporting KC to win games with any level of regularity, will need to continue being aggressive on the attacking half of the field to compensate. Tactical corner will be focused on some things we think SKC can work on that are not necessarily talent dependent, at least in technical skill. There are some simple things regarding their rest defense posture as well as their line management that can be rectified with better organization and coordination, and they could at least limit the amount of negative events they are attempting to recover from. This week in Potpourri, MLS Hot Stove is scorching as we record this podcast with the MLS Primary Transfer window closing tonight at midnight, and SKC has been a key figure in the goings on over the last 48 hours, both bringing in a new player and saying goodbye to a fan favorite. Speaking of fan favorites, the KC Current pushed their unbeaten start to the season to 5 games this past weekend, and their shutout streak to over 400 minutes as they continue to outclass every opponent they come across. Finally, we will preview SKC's early afternoon away trip to Cincinnati, and discuss whether we think they can keep this level of attacking performance clicking and potentially make it a 3rd win in 4 matches of the Kerry Zavagnin Era

Listeners-we're sorry! We uploaded this episode but it disappeared off the podcast distributor for some reason. -The left half of the country, and a good portion of the right, is defenseless against covert narcissism. They're treating Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a poor bullied little boy, and castigating Trump and Vance as "bullies." This is the biggest moral reversal of the current Trump era. -As children pay for the crimes of their abusive parents, so do normal, tough men pay for the crime of setting limits and boundaries. The reaction to the oval office meeting this week shows more than half the country will turn on their own president working in their own interests. It's a pure form of Cluster B reversal that should be preserved in amber for posterity. -Potpourri due Moquerie takes on Wisconsin's ban on the words "mother" and "husband," troons gone wild who still get called ladies in headlines, and deviant demands to Kenyon College to venerate trannies above all other gods. Slate culture staff writer Nadira Goffe sits in for Dana, and the hosts discuss the new Bong Joon Ho film Mickey 17, followed by Meghan Markle's uncanny homemaking show With Love, Meghan on Netflix. Finally, we invite Slate writer Dan Kois to discuss his new cover story “How Giant White Houses Took Over America.” Endorsements: Julia: The Slate article “Cracking the Code” by Henry Grabar Steve: The New York Review essay “Angles of Approach” by Sally Rooney Nadira: Kelela's album In The Blue Light Podcast production and research by Vic Whitley-Berry.
