We are a podcast that breaks down each new episode of your favorite guilty pleasure and ours, Pretty Little Liars! We talk everything from the head turning fashion to the all too glaring plot holes. But, make no mistake, what we do we do from love!
Okay, so... technically this is more like an episode of Pretty Little Screamers where we theorise about what's going to happen when the inevitable Scream VII AKA sixth sequel comes along, but we promise there is some discussion of Scream VI ...somewhere in this podcast. Granted, we do spend an extraordinarily long time debating our own rankings and fighting to the bloody death about who (*cough* Tom McNab *cough*) is right, and who (*cough* Ben Tahija *cough*) is wrong when it comes to where Scream 2 deserves to be ranked. Thankfully, Chelsea White is here to keep us all level headed, setting the record straight and letting it be known that in the year of our lord and saviour, Beyonce, 2023, there is absolutely no goddamn way these teenagers are listening to "Blow The Whistle" at a college fraternity party!? Whatever, Alicia, let's get our murder on. It's a Scream, baby. I'll be right back!
Ol' Saint Nicky isn't the only one dashing through in white and red today, as a bloodstained Ghostface is BACK to terrorise your Winter! Our Pretty Little Screamers, Tom McNab and Chelsea White, have assembled to watch the teaser trailer for Scream VI and share with you all of their immediate thoughts, reactions, and theories - trust that they STU over every possible detail from the franchise and won't leave you JILL-ted when it comes to speculating whose ROMAN around New York!!!
They Night They Came Home. But it's day time and only one of them is at home and, ya know what, this reference works as well here as it does in this show. Anyway, Melissa & Ben are back to discuss the first five episodes of season one (aka what is sure to be the only season) of PLL's latest incarnation, Original Sin! We've watched five hours of this show so find out with us if we can name the main characters! We can name a bukake of movie references contained in this show, at least. We also reminisce about OG PLL and how much we have wiped from our minds about it, except a certain man and his Ghost Jeep. The first person to be a guest on our show and just overall spectacular human being April Richardson needs a helping hand right now, as we all do from time to time, so please show her some kindness: https://ko-fi.com/aprilrichardson/
It's summer, so you know what that means - we're getting in Shape! The Shape, to be more specific, as a new Halloween trailer was released. When we say this is a teaser trailer, we really mean it, they're edging us good! So we spend most of the time talking about our thoughts on Halloween Kills (spoilers, duh), before leaving you with a little "treAt" for what's in store next time on Pretty Little Podcasters.
It's been an honour! Like the ghost of Billy Loomis, Ben has reappeared in our lives and on the pod! Along with Chelsea White and Tom McNab, they discuss all the minutia of Scream 5 AKA Scream 2022 AKA 5cream (we're talking mondo spoilers, bonehead)! What exactly is the backstory with Tara and Sam's mother? How do you pronounce Babadook? And going forward in the franchise, can we please just normalise Ghostface having boobs, 'kay?!
Scream fans had to wait 11 years for a new entry, you should all be thankful we only made you wait 11 weeks! Do you want to hear what we were doing during that time? Definitely, somehow, watching all 7 Stab movies (we enjoy the one with Lucy Hale)! Do you want to hear Chelsea's dark secret in regards to opening night way back in April 2011? Do you want to hear all about Tom's pitch for a 2007 remake of Scream that would have OBVIOUSLY been a huge success and spawned its very own sequel?! We ask how, in spite of everything, Scream 4 is still two very enthusiastic thumbs up, fine holiday fun (whatever, Alicia).
It occurred to us that in our Scream 2 episode we completely overlooked the Joshua Jackson cameo, so to ensure nothing like that ever happened again we went super in-depth on every detail of Scream 3. The concluding chapter of the trilogy, the first film of the new millennium, and with it came the introduction of Ghostface using the highest of modern technology! No, not the voice changer, Ghostface uses a FAX MACHINE! Safe to say we leave no facet of Scream 3 untouched (duh, you can see it's almost 200 minutes long), and we even have time to bring up Jessica Alba, Christina Aguilera and Kate Bush! But, most important of all, finally three films in, we ask ourselves... what exactly is a "cloned cellular"?
This episode runs the gamut as it finds our Pretty Little Screamers accusing a nurse of trying to kill them because they thought she looked like the killer and pondering a prequel that's actually a romantic comedy wherein the killers are running around trying to play matchmaker by setting up Omar Epps and Jada Pinkett and lavishing them with free gifts of Tori Spelling movie tickets! We also hypothesize whether or not Diane Sawyer would do our girl Sidney dirty, much like she did to Britney Spears. And most important of all, we recast the Scream franchise with characters from Pretty Little Liars!
Do you like scary podcasts? Okay, it isn't really scary but you see what I was doing. Starting with this episode, Tom McNab (aka our pal and yours, British Tom) takes over hosting duties with herself Chelsea White (of Cabernet & A fame) as his awesome and wonderful co-host to cover all the Scream movies in a limited series called, naturally, Pretty Little Screamers! This week Tom and Chelsea sink their cleaver into the first movie and even bring you never before heard (yeah, we got exclusives, baby!) clips from Matthew Lillard, the voice of Ghostface Roger Jackson and, via some manner of time travel I've yet to wrap my head around, 14 year old Tom McNab. Truly unsure why you're still reading the description and not already listening to the episode. Get on with it!
Do you like scary movies? We knew you did and do we have something fun planned for you! On this special Halloween episode, Ben and British Tom break down the Scream 5 trailer with none other than Chelsea White! British Tom and Chelsea will be taking over the feed to delightfully and meticulously cover all of the Scream movies culminating with the newest movie, Scream (aka Scream 5) that drops in January.
Like Michael Myers after having both his eyes shot out and being set on fire, Tom and Ben are back! Is that too dark? We are here to break down the new Halloween Kills trailer so that is the vibe anyway.
Ben took a jaunt to the UK and got to meet British Tom! Naturally, we had to immortalize the moment in podcast form.
Melissa and Ben are back in the Dollhouse to discuss the pilot episode of The Perfectionists! How do the new Liars stack up? Is Mona just James Bond now? Has Mona ever seen, let alone cut, a pie before? How does a TA-ship actually work? Where can I download that cello cover of Poker Face? So many questions! And will Melissa and Ben be drug in enough to watch episode two? Listen to find out!
Tom & Ben discuss the seminal (what does that word mean, by the way?) horror classic from John Carpenter! Tom even reads from his essays about the movie. Yeah, pural. EssayS. He is a true Halloween fan if his love of Tina didn't already tip you off.
Alright, y'all, reset your timelines because we are having a spoiler-filled discussion about the newest Halloween. So snuggle up in your panic room and hit play!
MORE of the night Tom and Ben disagreed about a movie called Halloween 2. We are both, however, pleased to discuss the first and only movie in the franchise with some much needed male nudity. Thanks, Bud.
This movie is basically the meet-cute between Loomis and Jamie. You know, before he spends the entirety of part 5 mentally destroying her. We also discuss the franchise timeline (it all adds up perfectly, don't worry), who is Jamie's father, why/how Jamie has a picture of her murderous uncle, just all the essentials.
Is Tina one of the deepest and richest characters in the entire franchise? That's a legit discussion that happens on this episode.
Words like "bonkers" and "lunacy" are thrown around a lot in this episode because there are just few other adjectives that so appropriately describe this movie. A movie that made Michael Myers the bumbling sidekick in his own franchise. And that is before we even get to the Producer's Cut and it gets all power-of-the-runes on us. We had great green gobs of fun talking about this movie and hope you all enjoy it, too!
Halloween: Resurrection took a lot out of us but we are professionals so we're back! This one movie contains so much iconography from the franchise and also oodles of references to the preceding movies and other horror franchises. There is much to discuss so don't lose your head (see what I did there?), just hit play and join us!
The reception this film got led to the studio completely rebooting the franchise. Is it really that bad?! Yes. Yes, it is. A thousand times yes. But Tom & Ben still go in with open minds and warm hearts to break down Halloween: Resurrection!
Melissa is back in the podcasting dollhouse with Ben to talk some teens! That sounds weird but we explain it in the episode. It is still weird once you hear it explained. Fair warning. On the premiere outing of the Scary Summer Scream Fest we are covering the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street!
Rob Zombie's take on Halloween was a box office smash hit (it still holds the record for biggest Labor Day opening in the US of A) but fans are still split on this half origin story / half remake. Ben and Tom break it all down and split on which half of the movie they prefer. We want to hear your thoughts (even if you're wrong and think Scout Taylor Compton is a good Laurie Strode) so let us hear em: Twitter: @PrettyLittlePod Insta: @prettylittlepod
The first episode of our Halloween retrospective has finally arrived! Tom and Ben are covering what could easily be the most controversial flick of the entire franchise, Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 (or as the cool kids call it, H2). RIP to the wonderful Margot Kidder who passed away after this episode was recorded. We want to hear your thoughts (even if you're wrong and hate Halloween 2) so let us hear em: Twitter: @PrettyLittlePod Insta: @prettylittlepod
Join Ben and Tom as they do a deep dive retrospective on all the Halloween movies from Rob Zombie's remake to the 1978 classic that started it all. This limited series will then conclude with a weekend of release review of the brand new Halloween! On today's episode, we tell you what prompted all this and we react to the recently released first trailer for Halloween! If you've never seen a Halloween movie, now's the time to jump on board! Think of them like PLL: it started off really well, got pretty murky in the middle, the stuff fans didn't like got retconned out of existence, the timeline's a complete mess only this time the killer is actually pretty adept at killing teenagers.
We are back to mourn yet another black person that has been claimed by the racist soul of Rosewood. RIP Yvonne #NeverForget Oh, and Ali is pregnant with Emily's baby probably. Yeah. You heard me.
Ben and Marissa have escaped from the Dollhouse long enough to discuss the first two episodes of 7B! We then free Melissa just long enough for some wedding speculation. We'll see you again soon to get caught up on the season thus far... we hope...
In this simulcast with Yas Queen: The Podcast, Ben is joined by his buddy Ash to break down King Cobra! This movie stars Keegan Allen and I am happy to report we are definitely not Palo Alto'd. He and his abs and his buttocks are ALL prominently featured in this movie.
Guys, Ben's super punchy and he may be watching this season as a modern retelling of The Shining and Katie is playing the Jack Nicholson role. I guess that makes Schwartz the Shelley Duvall? Yeah, that actually makes sense.
Katie is still a mean girl and James is still killin it on the DJ front.
Pretty Little Podcasters presents... Vanderpump Fools! Welcome back to our Vanderpump Rules featurette! Today we discuss the ongoing fallout of MuffinGate, the cultural ignorance of Lisa Vanderpump and why Kristin should totally visit Yulin, China. Please forgive the ambient noises, we will record inside of doors next time, I promise. Have any thoughts you want to share? Let's Vander-hear them! Pretty Little Podcasters presents... Vanderpump Fools: a Vanderpump Rules Podcast Featurette! Did you ever wonder what would happen if the worst inhabitants of Rosewood moved to Los Angeles and worked at a Real Housewife's restaurant? Okay, that's a thin connection to PLL, we admit that. But you're legit not gonna find a better way to get through this long hiatus than watching a reality show that features a young lady from Kentucky get berated by her scumbag boyfriend into getting a double-D boob job. Is that any worse that what Ezra's done? You be the judge. Also, to the listener who came up with the great idea for the name Vanderpump Fools, thank you! Remind us who you are and we will give you full credit :)
A lot happened in the final mid-season finale of PLL. Did all of it make sense? Well,no. Did even most of it make sense? No, not really. We break down every ship and every death (there was only one, at most btw) and we spend a lot of time defending Noel and Jenna. And even more time discussing the looped conversation about Ramen that was pivotal to this episode for some reason.
Paige is creepin again, Emily is worthless again (read: still), Aria is relieved some poor Australian girl is still dead, Noel is still looking super hot, that is, until Hanna caves in his skull with a metal pipe. It almost sounds like this was an eventful episode, doesn't it?
We talk about the welcome return of Grunwald and the supernatural element of the show, Noel's deadly hotness and Aria's scene stealing. We read some great listener tweets and theories. And on-air we deal with literally having seen a man die fifteen minutes before we started recording.
Yeah, not a typo, that is the actual title of this episode of PLL. It should give you an idea of what we're in for. In this episode Ben & Melissa discuss how car alarms work since no one on the set or in the writer's room at PLL seems to have the foggiest idea and the movie The Notebook comes up a lot. Like, a lot.
After an absolutely unnecessary one week hiatus, PLL is back and so are we! It is another experimental episode of the podcast. All three of your hosts are here this week, just not all together at any point. Listen and it will make sense. Hope you guys enjoy it!
This episode may as well have just been called "Just look how damn good Noel Kahn looks now, you guys."
Marissa is back from the near-dead! And, as it happens, Jenna and Mona are, too! The appearance of these old familiar faces lead to some fun reminiscing about the history of PLL until one of our chairs tries to kill us.
After two lackluster episodes, season seven comes roaring to life! In fact, the appearance of an Amish girl with dolls of the PLLs is only like the fourth most interesting part of the episode!
What were the three highlights of this episode of Pretty Little Liars? Glad you asked. They were: 1. Hanna's boobs, 2. Ali's wet neck and 3. infant mortality.
PLL is back! And the liars have 24 hours to save Hanna! We see that some of the girls spend their time tending to their sexual desires as opposed to trying to rescue their friend but whatever. Does the premiere improve upon the lackluster end to last season? Listen and find out! Be a pal and subscribe and leave us a good review on iTunes!
How bad is the teaser poster for season seven? Well, we saw it while at work and fled to an empty office to immediately discuss it and we thought we'd record it, too, so you all can join in the discussion. If you haven't seen this monstrosity yet, head over to our twitter @PrettyLittlePod and check it out.
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's Daredevil is criminally underrated. And we're gonna prove it! If you like The Cinematic Defenders Podcast be sure to subscribe in iTunes!
There's a kind of hush all over the world tonight...
You guys, things went wrong trying to get this episode to you. So many things.
This week's episode of Pretty Little Liars was definitely a step up from the last three, but was it enough to break this PLL slump? You'll have to listen to find out!
Hello Pretty Little Podcasters Listeners! Ben here! I just wanted to introduce you to my new podcast called The Cinematic Defenders! On it, I (along with different special guests each episode) come to the defense of movies that have a bad wrap. We come at these movies with fresh eyes and optimistic hearts! On the premiere episode we are watching Man of Steel and I am overjoyed to have the wonderful Mike Schmidt and our very own Marissa (who was a Superman movie virgin before this podcast) as my premiere guests! I really hope you guys enjoy it and if you do, I would be overjoyed if you subscribed! You can find the show on iTunes. You can also subscribe directly via the RSS feed at http://cinematicdefenders.libsyn.com/rss.
It is a fantastical crossover event with Sue Funke and Chelsea White of CAbernet And A! It is the perfect episode to have Chelsea and Sue here, too, since this was yet another filler episode that was lined wall to wall with boring white dudes from muppet-voiced Liam to Melba Toast Rollins (to quote Chelsea). So, we might go off the rails a time or two but that's how you like it anyway, don't lie.
So little happens in this episode we resort to #FunHerpesFacts again. Wish we were kidding. We were just inundated with super boring white guys like Liam and Dr. Rollins that are so clearly just placeholders we don't need to care about which is great because we definitely don't. At least we get some Mona and some Tanner to breath life into this episode! Also, don't forget to visit the PrettyLittlePod shop to help support the show!
