Bring Your Daughter To the Slaughter Neve Campbell sat out Ghostface's rampage in New York City so she could raise Isabel May to become her Final Girl replacement in Scream 7. Has Matthew Lillard risen from the dead to stalk veteran survivors like Courtney Cox, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown in a brand new suburbia? And why did O.G. screenwriter Kevin Williamson take another stab at directing a scary movie after his debut, Teaching Mrs. Tingle, nearly killed his career? Join true crime junkies Marjorie, Arnie, and Stuart as they clean the blade of another postmodern slasher installment.
Synopsis Sidney Prescott is now a mother of a teen girl her age during the first film learns that another Ghostface copycat is afoot. When she gets her first call from the killer it's revealed that it might be an old friend, or perhaps a deepfake. It doesn't matter, we still get the nostalgia. Then pretty much everything that you expect happens: teens get killed, everyone is suspect, and the killer is finally revealed. You've seen one of these before, right? Review of Scream 7 As with all the Scream movies, this is a competent slasher. It remains visceral and mean, but this one lacks the fun and meta horror movie commentary that the originals had. Sidney Prescott as a mother is a compelling character, even if it feels like a bit of a retread of Halloween 2018. Unlike Halloween, Sidney seems like a real person that is trying to move on and raise her daughter. The first reveal of the killer is surprising enough and is explained through a semi convincing retconn, but comes too early for it to be trusted completely. So there remains enough doubt as to the killer and especially their accomplice to maintain the whodunnit aspect. Kevin Williamson, the original writer of Scream and countless other early 2000s classics, directs this episode. His only other directing credit is “Teaching Mrs. Tingle” a forgettable dark comedy thriller in 1999. He does fine here, although most directors could do one of these movies on autopilot. There isn't much added flair, he just gives you what you want: tension and jumpscares. Overall, it's alright, and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a good time, but I can't say that the movie makes a case for more Scream movies. Score 5/10

Ghostface is back… and this time, it's personal. In Episode 219, we kick things off with our Topic of the Week — early Oscar buzz!
Welp, here we go. Scream 7, which comes from franchise creator Kevin Williamson and stars the queen of final girls herself Neve Campbell, is now out in cinemas. Listen, I don't know about you but I'm just glad we can all move on from this movie now that it's finally out. It's a shame because the original Scream is - and always will be - my favorite horror movie of all-time; it was inventive and broke the genre it ways that were needed in 1996 while still showing such love and admiration from it. Scream 7 loses the plot and does not understand what made this franchise great in the first place... and no, I'm not just hating on it because of dumb actions made by studio executives. Listen on to here why Scream 7 is the first truly terrible Scream movie.Scream 7:Directed by: Kevin WilliamsonWritten by: Kevin Williamson and Guy BusickStory by: James Vanderbilt & Guy BusickBased on characters created by: Kevin WilliamsonProduced by: Paul Neinstein, William Sherak, James VanderbiltExecutive Producers: Gary Barber, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillet, Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, Ben Fast, Cathy Konrad, Marianne Maddalena, Ben Ormand, Chris Stone, Chad Villella, Kevin WilliamsonMusic by: Marco BeltramiDirector of Photography: Ramsey NickellEdited by: Jim PageCasting by: Rich DeliaProduction Design by: John CollinsCostume Design by: Leigh LeverettCast: Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, Isabel May, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Roger L. It's Friday, which means 5-Star Movie Reviews with Andy Peth, joined by Luke Cashman and Ashly Carter — and this hour did not disappoint. At 11:07, Andy dives into K-Pops, starring Anderson .Paak. Is it a heartfelt father-son redemption story wrapped in vibrant K-pop spectacle… or an overlong vanity project? Andy praises the chemistry, cultural fusion, and music, but ultimately says weak writing and poor editing sink it. His verdict? Quality: 1½ stars | Political: 3 | Moral/Religious: 3. Would you spend your money on it — or stream something else? Then at 27:35, it's Scream 7. Can Neve Campbell's return as Sidney Prescott revive the franchise? Andy likes the aging “final girl” angle and the warning about AI deception — but says the second half collapses with laughable reveals and unrealistic kills. Final score: Quality: 1 star | Political: 3½ | Moral/Religious: 3. Is this horror sequel suspenseful… or unintentionally hilarious? If you love sharp takes, bold ratings, and zero sugarcoating, Andy Peth brings it. Want to know which film he says is actually worth your time? You'll have to listen. HOUR 2 Guest host Andy Peth, joined by Luke Cashman and Ashly Carter, turns Hour 2 into a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud showdown: movies with one-word titles. Sounds simple? Think again. From Taken and the debate over whether “fun” equals “good,” to rapid-fire classics like Casablanca, Jaws, Gladiator, Parasite, Titanic, Psycho, and Hereditary, the crew blends nostalgia, trivia, and sharp cultural commentary. Which trilogy would you binge back-to-back—Star Wars, Avatar, The Matrix, Nolan's Batman? And what makes a single word—Alien, Rebecca, Deliverance, Mulan, Ghostbusters—so powerful it defines a generation? Callers jump in with deep cuts and curveballs (Zardoz, Rollerball, Sharknado), while the hosts trade iconic quotes and debate horror films that are “tough watches.” Is Aliens better than Alien? Did Jaws change human behavior forever? And which movie moment still gives you chills? It's part trivia battle, part film school, part comedy roast—proving that sometimes one word is all you need.

Sidney took some much-needed rest and relaxation in the last movie but now it's time to teach another Ghostface a lesson. We're talking about Scream 7.
This week on Forgotten Cinema, the Mikes wrap up their Scream Lead Up series with "Scream VI", the final stop before diving into "Scream 7".Both Mike Butler and Mike Field still like this entry, but it stands as the weakest of the franchise so far in their rankings. A big part of that comes from the absence of Sidney Prescott and the somewhat awkward shoehorning of Gale into the story. The film also lacks the sharp meta commentary that defines the series, and the villain reveal and finale lean heavily into goofiness rather than tension. That said, "Scream VI" is still a good time. The kills are strong, the set pieces are memorable, and several sequences stand out, including the Gale versus Ghostface showdown and the tense Halloween subway ride. Melissa Barrera continues to grow into the role of Sam, delivering one of the stronger performances of the new era. With the Lead Up complete, the Mikes also rank the franchise so far and reflect on where the series stands heading into its next chapter. Even if "Scream VI" doesn't reach the heights of its predecessors, it proves the franchise still knows how to entertain. So join the Mikes as the go through each film in the "Scream" saga leading up to the release of "Scream 7".What are Scream rankings? Let us know in the comments!
For this week's main podcast review, Katie Johnson, Dan Bayer, and Aaron Isenstein join me to discuss the latest film in the "Scream" franchise, "Scream 7" with Neve Campbell, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, and Courteney Cox reprising their roles from the previous films, and Isabel May, Anna Camp, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Mckenna Grace, Asa Germann, Celeste O'Connor, Sam Rechner, Mark Consuelos, Tim Simons, and Joel McHale also starring. Following the exit of "Scream" (2022) and "Scream VI" directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett in August 2023, Christopher Landon was hired to direct the film. However, the film underwent creative retooling after the firing of star Melissa Barrera and the departure of Jenna Ortega in late 2023, with Landon also leaving the project. In March 2024, Campbell confirmed her return to the franchise after being absent from the last film, with series creator Kevin Williamson hired to direct the film after serving as writer and producer on the early films in the series. This latest entry follows a new Ghostface killer who targets Sidney Prescott's daughter. After all the controversy surrounding its production, what did we think of the final product? Tune in as we discuss the story, its use of legacy characters, its themes of AI technology and generational trauma, the brutal kills, the franchise's future, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. This week on Friday Night Frightfest, we're slicing into the modern "requel" era of the most self-aware franchise in horror history. With Scream 7 currently on the horizon for 2026, we're looking back at the two films that successfully passed the torch from the Woodsboro legacy to the "Core Four." We're comparing the 25th-anniversary homecoming of Scream (2022) with the big-city brutality of Scream VI (2023). Scream (2022) Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (collectively known as Radio Silence), this fifth installment serves as a "requel"—a movie that functions as both a sequel and a soft reboot. Set 25 years after the original murders, a new Ghostface emerges in Woodsboro, targeting a group of teens with links to the town's bloody past. The film introduces the Carpenter sisters, Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara (Jenna Ortega), while bringing back the "Legacy Trio" (Sidney, Gale, and Dewey) to help them survive. It masterfully skewers the trend of "elevated horror" and toxic fandom, all while delivering some of the most emotional blows in the entire series. Scream VI (2023) Leaving Woodsboro behind for the first time in the main timeline, the survivors of the 2022 massacre move to New York City to start a fresh chapter at college. However, Ghostface follows them to the Big Apple. This entry ups the ante with more aggressive, ruthless chase sequences—including a nail-biting encounter in a bodega and a terrifying subway ride on Halloween night. With a shrine dedicated to every past Ghostface and the return of Scream 4 survivor Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere), Scream VI is a fast-paced, urban slasher that challenges the rules of the franchise by proving that even the main characters are no longer safe. Before you see the new Scream 7 this weekend, join u s for this episode as we discuss which film did a better job of balancing nostalgia with new blood? And who is the ultimate modern final girl? Spoilers start around 5:45.

Ghostface leaves Woodsboro… and heads to New York City.In Part 1 of our Scream 6 review, The Priest and JJ break down the franchise's biggest swing yet — bigger city, bigger body count, and arguably bigger plot armor. We cover:
The Devil's Ledger Week of February 22 The flame is out. The mountains fall quiet. This week on The Devil's Ledger, we say farewell to the Winter Olympics — and to the Italian Alps, whose beauty, history, and lingering shadows reminded us that even the most breathtaking places tend to keep a few secrets. But while the games end, the stories across the network are just getting started. The Creepiest Thing I Heard This Week Nature delivered the reminder. In March of 1888, a storm known as The White Hurricane buried the Northeast under up to 50 inches of snow, with drifts rising to the height of buildings. Communication collapsed. Cities were cut off. More than 400 people died — many only steps from safety. The storm didn't just paralyze the region. It changed it. In response, New York began moving critical infrastructure underground — a decision that eventually led to the creation of the subway system. Sometimes the scariest stories aren't about monsters. They're about how quickly control disappears. On The Devil Within By listener request, we begin a two-part series on one of America's most enduring and unsettling legends: The Mothman West Virginia. The 1960s. Glowing red eyes. Massive wings. Dozens of witnesses. And a chilling pattern — sightings that seem to appear before tragedy. Folklore? Mass hysteria? Something unknown? Or a warning. On The Ides of April A new historical arc begins: Alexander the Great A young king who conquered the known world before the age of thirty — and may have outrun the limits of power itself. Empire. Ambition. Destiny. And the question history always asks: What happens when there's nothing left to conquer? On Taboo Treasures The guys return with a sharp and satirical look at one of humanity's stranger traditions: The most dangerous jobs we've ever created. From ancient hazards to modern risks, it's a darkly funny exploration of the ways people have risked their lives… for a paycheck. On Criminal Mischief Carolyn Ossorio brings updates on several major cases currently dominating the news, including developments involving Nancy Guthrie, Brendan Banfield, and other ongoing investigations. Because in true crime, the story rarely ends when the headlines move on. On Finding Me with Josh Wolf Josh continues his daily journey into the uncomfortable territory most of us try to avoid: Accountability. Honesty. And the work of figuring out what actually needs attention. Personal. Raw. Necessary. This Week in Horror For Gen X horror fans, this one feels personal. The seventh installment of the Scream franchise arrives in theaters. When a new Ghostface targets Sidney's daughter, she's forced to confront her past — and end the cycle of violence once and for all. Some franchises fade. Others grow up with us. And somehow… Ghostface is still calling. Closing Thought As this episode releases, a major winter storm is moving toward the Northeast. A reminder — like the storms of the past — that control is often temporary. If you're in its path: Slow down. Stay warm. Check on each other. We're thinking of you. Until next week… Stay curious. Stay careful. And stay safe out there.
The late 90's is the perfect setting of any movie, as proven by 1996's Scream. We discuss the perfect decade, the definition of meta, pop culture icons and how Ghostface takes so much damage.
